Also what bugs me is they constantly advertise their products as modular/upgradeable -- but offer no upgrades/modules.

Go knc go
But why not have installed extra ports at November Jupiter board???
How will do the upgraded
Upgrade boards were never meant for Jupiters... They were meant for saturns & mercuries, but some decided to get greedy,(no offense to anyone intended  Tongue) which was an oversight really... so KNC will now offer more upgrade boards to remedy the situation.

KNC could've limited the sale to mercury and saturn owners for a first round offering, but decided not to. I'm sure they won't offer them to saturn or mercury owners, yet again.

I also don't get why someone would be upset KNC is going to likely open the order floodgates for Jupiters, afterall, they said they would.

While I haven't had to file an RMA request, I have sent multiple inquiries with no response. About 1 out of every 3 or 4 emails gets a response.

Also, despite being signed up for their news updates, I don't get them either. And no, it's not hitting a spam filter. I honestly think something is wrong with their email system.

What if the website had a dynamically-updated list of pools, showing which were online? Just off the cuff I'm thinking there'd need to be an account/worker for each pool, then a daemon on the website could poll a certain frequency to make sure it can connect, and show online/offline. If offline for X amount of time, it would drop down the list into the 'offline' section.

Or something.

It's saying i've exceeded the pool's tag threshold warning thingy, the payout warning. JFYI.
1906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 14, 2013, 03:59:35 AM
Hashfest seems likely to ship within a month, if they don't have major setbacks.

I'm definitely hoping KNC opens up some more Gen2 Jupiter orders.
1907  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unpowered risers for 3x R9 280X's per board? 1x to x16 on: December 14, 2013, 03:34:54 AM
Is it fine to use unpowered risers for 3x R9 280X's a board? 1x to 16x? Scrypt mining.

I have been running 80 Gigabyte 7950's on AS Rock X79's with 5 to a motherboard for over a year with unpowered risers and haven't fried anything.

The trick is don't use junk power supplies or crappy MB's.

I've never tried a riser with a 5970,6990 or 7990 as I always run these straight to the MB.

~BCX~

+1, my small 7950 farm is unpowered, using 7" 16x risers (some are 1x). Seasonic Platinum and Gold power supplies.

Hadn't thought to check Ali. Amazon has some but the price has been nuts. Thanks for the Ali link.

Amazon has been getting sporadic shipments of the MSI R9 280x's today. It's been crazy. I put X number in the cart and within seconds before I can finish checkout, the quantity has dropped. I suppose this scrypt mining is catching on with lots of other people now lol.
1909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- 0%, Weekly jackpot!, **CURRENTLY DOWN** on: December 14, 2013, 12:41:45 AM
Yeah I need some risers too. I usually get the full 16x-16x ones, but I'll take 1x as long as it lets me hash. If anyone has a source on some, I'd like to know pricing for them in multiples of 12. Thanks.

Also Fuse, I'm interested in scrypt-asic myself. So if you get any word first let me know too. I'm on some mailing lists but havent heard anything lately.

Not to throw gas on the fire, but I think in the rebuild the auto-logout reverted back to the shorter time.
1911  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 09:50:01 PM

Ah ok, I got your point. I forgot the point of you having them the whole time since they were $100. Get it. I should have hoarded all my coin when I bought it at $15. Could have paid off my house maybe.

I feel the same way.. when I first looked into bitcoin, they were less than a buck. I didn't research it, it just seemed like an experiment someone was doing.

I kick myself every now and then over that.
1912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 09:47:45 PM
Ok.. so then what are you clarifying? They want $10,000 for it. That might be, say, 10 bitcoins. They're getting $10,000. For me, it's only $1,000.

It DOES matter what the price of bitcoin is because I said I wish I had owned bitcoin @ $100, because it would make a Neptune $1,000 for me. for me.

No, because an alternative would be to sell those Bitcoins for $10000, so the Neptune is still costing you $10000.
It doesn't matter at all what price they were when you bought them, it matters what they are worth now.

That's one side of the coin, the other side is you are still only $1,000 fiat into the hole. Whether you cash it out or buy $10,000 worth of equipment, you're still only initially out $1,000.
1913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 09:38:44 PM
Some people don't get the idea that trade differential is a valid investment strategy. It drives me nuts. Bitcoin is a form of currency, i.e. a unit of exchange. If you use your brain, instead of "pure" idealism, you will always make the best exchange you can at any given moment.

Bitcoin is not going to replace the dollar. A cryptocurrency might in the future, but I doubt it. It does, and likely will continue to, work as a secondary currency and as a store of value to some extent. Not as good as gold for that, but better than most anything else right now. It's advantage over gold is that it can be transferred nearly instantly.

There's nothing wrong with your math or your thought process on this.

edited for fucked up quote tags Tongue

Yeah.. some people just get it and others don't I suppose. I see this type of technology as a wave of the future for stuff beyond our dreams. Right now, we're in the embryo stage really. Today a cryptocurrency, tomorrow.. who knows.

Upon further investigation, I have found a lot of references to the querytime issues on the MPOS github.  TheSerapher's recommendation is disabling the live dashboard.  Apparently this causes an insane amount of load on the DB.  There is talk about changing the way these statistics are cached, so I think for now the best bet is to shut it off.  I know it's snazzy and all, but if it improves server response for now, I'm going to do it.

So bring on the whales and let's see what happens.

Snazzy is fine, but faster server is better Smiley I switched back to you, let's hope for the best.
1915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 08:36:40 PM
Let's be honest - the only reason knc are doing 20nm is to justify the ridiculous price.

I was thinking today.. I wish I'd had the spare funds a few months back to buy in when it was $100/btc.

Neptune would've cost me a grand ...

This is one reason why I enjoy the possibilities with bitcoin. Sure, the value fluctuates, but that can create some great opportunities for those already in it.

Not really, since KNC still puts the price in USD prices and still requires bitcoin. A company truly accepting bitcoin doesn't look at the USD worth at all. Trust me, weather BTC was $10 or $1000 you still would have had to pay $10k.

Uh.

10 btc purchased at $100/ea = $1,000 my cost.

1 Neptune = $10,000USD, which at the time of availability, would've been 10btc.

10 btc sent to KNC = $1,000 my cost.

What are you missing about this?

What I'm trying to say is KNC prices their gear in US dollars. Doesn't matter what the price of bitcoin is. When you go through the checkout process how ever many bitcoins it takes for that invoice to equal $10k or $13k is what you will pay. I'm being specific to how KNC does business, I understand is BTC lowers/rises and all that.

Don't bother trying to explain it to him.  People like that just don't get it... and never will.   Roll Eyes

+1

Apparently..
1917  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 13, 2013, 08:05:15 PM
But... and here's the kicker... KNC will be shipping only Jupiters (no Saturns)from stock or with a very short build time.  Remember, no one else will be shipping orders made today until March/April at the soonest.  Therefore KNC will be pricing accordingly, easily double your $4000 guesstimate.

They shouldn't, because they said if they did ship again, they would do it at a discounted rate.

It's presumed a Jupiter wouldn't cost 30% more than it did weeks ago, coming from the same company, using stock they already own which isn't being used.

And if they did do that, a lot of their "loyal customers" would get very hot very quick.

...when I threw a few hundred at it, the server choked...

You sound like a bit of a whale yourself? A few hundred?!

The pool seems best both in yield and query times around 60Mh/s...

Noo, not quite there /yet/ lol. I'm trying though. I was referring to an SHA256 coin, so it was GH.
