1921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: is this pywallet good or infected? on: February 17, 2022, 11:23:54 AM
This is the real pywallet:
I still wouldn't run it on an online system though, and only on a backup of your data. With the right precautions your data can't be stolen even if there is malware installed.
How to dumpwallet DOGE/DASH/LTC (core .dat files) with that jackjack pywallet? I don't think it works.
Any ideas?

Check this command mentioned by @HCP

I believe that the otherversion value for Dogecoin is 30... so your command should look something like:
Code:
python pywallet.py --dumpwallet --wallet=wallet.dat --datadir=/path/to/folder/with/wallet/dat --otherversion=30 --passphrase=yourpassphrase

When you do that, you should see the addresses output start with a "D"... and the "sec" values should start with a "6" or "Q"... they should then import into Dogecoin wallet.

That's why I was asking, because this thing which I showed you seems to say to do the job but I'm afraid of it a bit because seems a .exe and might be infected and it was just posted 2 months ago and it looks really fishy. So I was asking if this thing works or is infected or not.

I doubt anyone know without testing it on isolated environment (e.g. install Windows on VirtualBox, then run the application).
1922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core Inbound connection on: February 16, 2022, 11:54:48 AM
"You still somewhat help the network though with the outbound connections."

could you describe more about this?

Basically it means you still relay block and transaction with another Bitcoin node (where you connect to them as part of outbound connection).

"Home connections are usually filtered by a router or modem. Bitcoin Core will request your router automatically configure itself to allow inbound connections to Bitcoin?s port, port 8333. Unfortunately many routers don?t allow automatic configuration, so you must manually configure your router. You may also need to configure your firewall to allow inbound connections to port 8333. Please see the following subsections for details. "

It is too hard for me. If I change my internet provider (router), maybe my new router will automatically configure itself to allow inbound connections to Bitcoin?

No matter ISP/router you use, usually you need to configure it by yourself. But if you're looking for easier way, enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your router and configure Bitcoin Core to use UPnP (should be availbale on Bitcoin Core setting).
1923  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Proton-mail is using BIP39 for its recovery phrase! on: February 16, 2022, 09:56:59 AM
That's a nice find, wonder how I missed that -- I actually use a different mail service but this is something else to consider, given how many of us are now used to the recovery phrase (thanks Bitcoin).

They don't bother announce it to their blog (https://protonmail.com/blog/) or newsletter, so it's not surprising you don't know about it (especially if you don't use their service).

I guess that Bitcoin love certainly goes well with Switzerland's privacy laws =)

While ProtonMail is better than many email service provider (in terms of privacy), Switzerland's privacy laws might not be as strong as you expected. Check these article,

1924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin War on: February 14, 2022, 11:58:06 AM
Do you anticipate a future in which there is a large-scale battle between pro-and anti-Bitcoin nations?

No, any sane government wouldn't start a war simply because ideology difference. War isn't exactly good for economy, especially if you're on disadvantage. For example, economist already speculate bad economic impact if Russia decide to invade Ukraine.

I don't believe that's a very likely scenario, but it's a concept I've had

You should write fictional story.
1925  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can't NFTs work on Bitcoin? on: February 14, 2022, 11:31:31 AM
<Snip>
This is the first time I hear that Steam is censoring and banning blockchain-based games. Like I mentioned before, I am not a gamer so I don't know the story behind it. At a first glance, I find it pretty pathetic and not that much different from what banks were or are still trying to do with Bitcoin and crypto. Or how YouTube censors things it doesn't like and doesn't suit them. I guess their is a certain fear there.

What i wanted to emphasize isn't Steam banning blockchain-based games, but most popular comment/reaction which support the ban or stating that they hate blockchain-based game/NFT. It means many (or even most) gamers don't need/want blockchain or NFT on their game even with advantage it could offer.
1926  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can't NFTs work on Bitcoin? on: February 13, 2022, 11:43:27 AM
Let's compare this character evolution in the game to activity points on Bitcointalk. It takes time and hard work to build-up your account/character. With traditional games, you never become the real owner of that character you spent time creating. You can't transfer them between games.

Actually you can transfer your account/character if creator/owner of the other game support it it. While i don't know if there are any game which allow do it, forum "AltcoinsTalks" allow you to transfer your rank from Bitcointalk with few condition[1].

If your hard drive fails, your data is lost, and your game progress and characters are lost as well.

Only true if it's offline game and you never make backup.

When the game developer released a 2nd edition of the game, you have to start from 0 again.

I don't play game much, but i've seen few game which allow you to import your character appearance/progress from previous game. If your game doesn't support it, you're out of luck.

There is your use case, and that creates a market and demand. I am not a gamer, it doesn't affect me personally, but I understand how this would appeal to those who are.

While you made good point, i wonder how many gamers who actually care about advantage of NFT for their game when many of them hate it[2].

1927  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is it normal for 1 address to hold 1.7m dust UTXOs? on: February 13, 2022, 11:25:12 AM
Wait a minute, but people are not going to pay a few cents as ransome?
Ransomware is mentioned in the reports by the people who submitted them. Those don't need to be true though.

With only 2 report, where one of them say "I can help u", the report is far for reliable.

Edit: I guess they used 0.00000546 BTC, because it was the minimal amount then, when Omni was created. But if they could use zero satoshi here, then I think they would do that. The whole idea is to get some representation of a token directly on Bitcoin, that is spendable. If you can create zero satoshis on-chain and if it is standard, then you can create tokens and exchange directly between Bitcoin and Altcoin in a single transaction!

For better or worse, UTXO is 0 satoshi isn't possible. There are few concern with 0 satoshi UTXO which mentioned here https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-dev/2021-December/019637.html.
1928  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Proton-mail is using BIP39 for its recovery phrase! on: February 11, 2022, 11:35:44 AM
I didn't expect BIP39 is used outside cryptocurrency wallet. Looking at this commit, i found file MnemonicPhraseStep.tsx which state it can be used for both account access and data decryption. I wonder how regular user react to this new backup/restore option.
1929  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitcoin-vpn.com - a huge list of Bitcoin and other crypto friendly VPN providers on: February 11, 2022, 09:06:16 AM
I forget to mention Firefox/Tor Browser show warning with error code "SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER" when i access your website, although there's no problem Chromium browser. While it's very likely it's problem with Firefox or my device, you might want to check/verify the problem.
The issue should be solved, if you can, please confirm. Thank you!

I can confirm the problem has been solved on both Firefox and Tor Browser, thanks for quick fixhttp://
1930  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can't NFTs work on Bitcoin? on: February 10, 2022, 12:14:28 PM
And there is a third group... people who want to collect something... like stamps, coins... and todays generation has discovered NFTs. If you check opensea.io (largest marketplace for NFTs) you will find out, that most people are buying and collecting these items.

And this third group is by far the largest  Smiley

NFT is basically sign that you're owner of specific content. I seriously doubt it's biggest group when cryptocurrency marketcap is very small compared with other investment and it's very easy to pirate the NFT. Some people even decide to pirate almost all NFT[1].

1931  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I forgot the password to my wallet on: February 10, 2022, 11:43:38 AM
Yes, I have tried, but it takes too long, so I have to give up for the time being. I can get back what belongs to me sooner or later

If it's takes too long, usually it's because there are too many possible combination, slow hardware or both of them. If you have GPU, you should configure btcrecover to use GPU which give massive speed improvement (up to 96x times according to the guide). Check this guide  https://btcrecover.readthedocs.io/en/latest/GPU_Acceleration/. If you could share your token file (make sure to change listed character/word for your own security), other member might be able to suggest more efficient token which reduce possible combination.

Alternatively, wait for few more years where Bitcoin price might be higher and GPU is far faster. Don't forget to make multiple backup of your wallet.dat file and write down part/characteristic of your password.
1932  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Massive list of Bitcoin-friendly VPS /VPNproviders on: February 09, 2022, 09:50:38 AM
Today i checked the website again and now it's back online. Apparently the list has been updated yesterday (08 February 2022) and now there's rectangle box (on right side of the page) for easier navigation. There's still no contact option beside email which use their own domain though.
1933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core V22 Balance error on: February 08, 2022, 12:59:08 PM
It's possible Bitcoin Core didn't scan whole blockchain when you load your wallet. You can try solve the problem using command rescanblockchain on Bitcoin Core Console.
1934  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: QR codes vs NFC in Bitcoin Wallets on: February 08, 2022, 12:56:02 PM
Cost for QR codes is minimal, but there is no universal standard and it can be encrypted with closed source like in Safepal wallet, so you can't verify anything.

To be fair, NFC doesn't have universal standard either. Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-field_communication#Standards) mention there are at least 4 different standard for NFC.

What do you think it's better technology to be used in Bitcoin wallets?

If your main concern is security and you know how to setup cold/airgapped wallet, QR code is better option.
1935  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Connect to electrum server without SSL on: February 07, 2022, 12:02:57 PM
Or your ISP sell your data.
I'm staying with family right now so I'm using the ISP's modem/router thing, unfortunately. The ISP can inspect LAN traffic you think?

It is possible and there are news that some ISP actually inspect/collect/sell your traffic data. Here are few random reference,
https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2021/10/ftc-staff-report-finds-many-internet-service-providers-collect
https://www.lightreading.com/security/t-mobile-to-join-atandt-verizon-in-selling-customers-data/d/d-id/767955
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_packet_inspection

If not, does anyone know any good resources for configuring SSL on the electrum server?
Install Stunnel on the Electrum server
--snip--

Great suggestion, i forget such tool is exist. But IIRC it lacks integration with OS service (such as initrc or systemd), so you'll need to create it manually if you wish convenience offered by OS service (such as start on boot and logging).
1936  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTA.lk - Official unofficial Bitcointalk short links on: February 07, 2022, 11:16:53 AM

I would shorten it to one of those

Code:
https://bta.lk/t/2162/28302
https://bta.lk/t/2162/p/28302

Sharing this to see if other people find it useful. If you do, let me know and might keep offering it.

While i find this website useful, i wouldn't bother manually create the short link. I expect more people would use it if there's simple text input and button to shorten the link automatically.
1937  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Old phishing scam on the rise on centralized exchanges on: February 06, 2022, 12:58:32 PM

Binance-com.web.app? What's that? I don't know how people are falling for this type of scams the truth is just right in front of us and we couldn't see it, that link looks way too suspicious to me and that's definitely not from the original binance exchange.

The target of such scam isn't you, but people who have no digital security awareness or think after take an action.
1938  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin wallet to avoid on: February 05, 2022, 09:33:20 AM
it is better to use a none custodial wallet that you are in control of the keys to be able to restore the wallet on any other wallet provider app or site.

It's even better if you choose non custodial and open source wallet with decent reputation.

This wallet is too familiar as a scam in this forum, there have been many accusations and problems in the past and even once locked Elonmusk funds. LOL
You can PM this guy or their official thread if your balance has not been credited, and create a thread or move this thread on the scam accusations board if you don't get a response.
Thanks for your reply I have contacted they support and all they could say it that there is deposits delay on their server that I have to wait for the issue to get resolved.

Ask them how long you'll need to wait until the "issue" resolved, IMO they expect you'll forget about the issue soon by giving vague answer.
1939  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is keysend the best way to transfer custom data between peers with lightning? on: February 04, 2022, 11:16:43 AM
Is there any other way?. I'm thinking that maybe lnurl can be used to transfer custom data somehow, but haven't explored that path yet.

You could abuse comment field in payRequest to send small amount of data. But both peer must explicitly enable comment field and it's limited by 2000 character on the URL (which also contain payment information), so it's more practical to use comment field to send notes/download link instead.
1940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin literally fixes this on: February 03, 2022, 12:27:20 PM
I don't disagree with your statement, but it's like comparing apples with oranges. Bitcoin is cryptocurrency while GoFundMe is crowdfunding platform. They could suffer from similar fate as long as they rely on centralized service (e.g. BitPay).
