1961  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [24 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 20, 2013, 02:12:33 PM
The fault lay with the hardware manufacturers, not p2pool, as p2pool was around long before they started making their ASICs. If all the newer hardware follows the same pattern, things will only improve, and old hardware becomes irrelevant very fast in this world anyway.

Agreed, but pool software should be able to adapt to newer hardware - which p2pool does not do. Other pools adapt - that's why they are more successful/bigger.

Exactly.  I can point my Blades to any other pool, be it one with a getwork interface, or any stratum pool via a stratum proxy, and guess what?  It works.  ONLY p2pool shit's it's lips when presented an ASICMiner (or KnC it seems).

As usual, ck, you're skirting round an issue and making excuses, rather than fixing the issue - amazing as it isn't even YOUR issue this time...
1962  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA GPU overc monit fanspd RPC linux/win/osx/mip/r-pi 3.6.4 on: October 20, 2013, 02:09:31 PM

Both machines are core i7 64 running Win7 64. Both use a bunch of erupters and one has a BFL LS as well. At first I thought the instability was caused by the heavier load on one machine but now I'm pretty sure it is not load-dependent.

A Raspberry Pi would run ALL your stuff - load has got nothing to do with it, as there isn't any on an i7.

Shit, I have 30GH/s gong through a TPLink 703N (a £10 router powered off USB with a Dorito for a CPU and 8MB RAM).
1963  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 3.3.0: modular ASIC/FPGA, GBT, Strtm, RPC, Lnx/OpnWrt/PPA/W64, BE Blade on: October 20, 2013, 02:06:26 PM
The stratum proxy is fully supported on all platforms, including Win64.
It's only the getwork proxy that can't do Win64.

 Huh

There's a difference?

Surely:
stratum proxy is for allowing getwork clients to mine on a stratum pool?
getwork proxy is for allowing getwork clients to mine on a stratum pool?

Confused.  Huh

Luke-Jr, have you any idea if/when you'll be adding the stratum proxy module to the OpenWRT version of BFGMiner?
IIRC, it should be there in 3.3.0?

OK, cool.  I didn't see anything specific in the READMEs about it being added, so assumed it was still not on OpenWRT, like it's still not on Win64 version.

I'll give it a spin sometime on OpenWRT...
1965  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [650 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: October 20, 2013, 12:38:28 PM
BFGMiner is WAY better for running the Block Erupters than an ancient version of CGMiner.

But if you like messing with USB Serial drivers the have fun.

What?!?  This is the most retarded post I've ever seen on this board.

BFGMiner is far simpler to get going - install VCP drivers, job done.  No messing with WinUSB, zdiag and all that shite.

The original post I was replying to was saying "If you don't want to restart your miner all the time use an old version of cgminer" - which is crap.
1966  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [24 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 20, 2013, 12:34:39 PM
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Hashfast's ASICs will have a fast longpoll/block change/flush work implementation and it looks like Cointerra's will too.

Doesn't help the thousands of miners using the currently available ASICs, though.  There's a LOT of folks out there with ASICMiner Blades...
1967  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [24 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 20, 2013, 11:52:13 AM
Yeah, p2pool sucks for ASICs.  Doesn't work with anything that's got a semi-decent hashrate.  Doesn't work with ASICMiner Blades, doesn't works terribly well with Avalon, and seems to not work with KnC now either...

I loved the idea of p2pool, but it's problems with ASIC means I'm out of there and mining on a 'real' pool.  I would, and probably a lot of others, would return if those issues were fixed (or even acknowledged and being worked on).
1968  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: How do you run BFGminer as a blade proxy?? on: October 20, 2013, 10:13:21 AM
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Looks fine to me, the only thing I'd suggest is trying a different pool.  Your config on your Blade and BFGMiner looks perfect.

1971  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [650 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: October 18, 2013, 01:21:03 PM
Use CGMiner 3.1.1 so you don't have to continually restart your miner.

Yeah, that's great advice.  Shame it's bollocks.   Roll Eyes

BFGMiner is WAY better for running the Block Erupters than an ancient version of CGMiner.

BFG has been running just shy of 9 days on Windows, and that was when I upgraded to the latest version.  Previous version was running for weeks.  This is on a Windows 8 machine that's regularly used, too.
1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Pool server software on: October 18, 2013, 08:33:07 AM
If you're running a pool for just yourself, you're wasting your time, you should just be solo mining.  ecoinpool is ancient and outdated, and needs an old version of bitcoin-qt which is a total deal breaker.

Seriously, just run a p2pool node if you want to have friends helping, or use one of the bigger pools that have teaming.  Or assign each friend a worker name on Eligius, with payout address to your wallet - you can then split up the proceeds later.

What's up with the timezone on the My Eligius stats page? Seems to be GMT. How can I change it to CET?

Move to civilisation.  Tongue

1976  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which pool are best now ? on: October 18, 2013, 07:48:17 AM
I've tried all the big pools - BTCGuild, EMC, Slush's, and P2Pool.  I always end up back with Eligius, though.  They're the most reliable for me.

P2Pool was OK, but variance is high due to a low hashrate, and you really need a decent machine to run it on.  Running P2Pool needed an i3 3.3GHz running 24/7, where just mining with Eligius means I can get away with running a tiny TPLink 703N micro-router running OpenWRT which uses less than 2W.
1977  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: new bitcoin difficulty to 263,358,983 and future profitability of mining on: October 18, 2013, 07:39:02 AM
Well, the MISTAKE miners are making is they are calculating break-even using current or near-term BTC prices.  5-10-20 years from now, assuming mass acceptance, a BTC might be worth several orders of magnitude more than it is today.

The one making the mistake is you, not the miners.

I think Batshit is correct, and you're wrong, Rannasha.  My mining equipment has paid for itself - every BTC I've mined in the last year has paid for it's replacement.  My HD5870 paid for my HD6970, which paid for the first HD7950, and the 6970 and 7950 together paid for the second 7950.  The three GPUs paid for my 11 Block Erupters.  I then sold the GPUs for either what I paid for them, or more than I paid for them, and that paid for my two Blades.  They're just about to ROI on the power used since I started mining (helped by my PV array).

During the summer my mining rig will be making BTC and costing absolutely nothing to run, thanks to the solar panels.  During the winter the heat from the mining rig is heating two rooms in my house, saving heating oil, and using less than 500W from the wall.

So, I'm pretty happy to continue mining for as long as I can, and will probably invest more of my mined BTC in to new hardware in the future.  I'm keeping my eye out for used Jalapenos and Blades all the time...
1978  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who will be mining a year from now? on: October 18, 2013, 07:25:25 AM

Wake me when it shows just supercars.

But today's diesel family hatchback is faster, safer and more comfortable than the supercar of the 80s.

Less than a year ago I was excited about hitting 500MH/s.  Now I've got 30GH/s, with another 10GH/s on it's way (some soon, some BFL slow).  I'm only a hobbyist, and only buy mining hardware paid for by mining.
1979  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [UK GROUP BUY] ASICMiner USB Block Erupters and Blades #7 on: October 16, 2013, 04:32:49 PM
please could you tell me where to buy correct psu power supply for a new version blade

a link would be helpful

thanks

I run mine off a Corsair CX750 PSU. It'll run at least 5 of them, I'm only running 2 Blades and two 10 port USB hubs.  The PSU is drawing between 250-300W from the wall.

My 1st Gen Blades are sitting at 2.6% and 3.4% HW errors.  It's pretty normal for them.  The Block Erupters are all sitting between 0.5-0.7% HW errors.  Again, normal.
