201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitbay qT WALLET IS STUCK AT 3 WEEKS AND WON'T GO PAST Aug 10 on: September 15, 2019, 09:28:57 PM
Bitbay QT wallet has been sync at 3 weeks. I am familiar with QT wallets and I can usually figure it out but right now all my bitbay is in the QT wallet and even with Halo\, I still need to sync QT then transfer my bitbay. Any suggestions - I am using the latest version and checked my firewall.

Hey I noticed you were stuck syncing, maybe you just got stuck on an orphan chain. The best solution is usually to resync. Just always backup wallet files for QT and key files for Halo and then delete the blockchain files and then boot up again.

Hi I am happy to see you guys releasing a censorship free marketplace with double deposit escrow/mutually assured destruction/2 party escrow.

Thank god you guys followed through. Any plans for a web version? It's wonderful to see more projects using this concept and I hope your project is a catalyst to make something popular that I have been fighting for years to get people to use. Two party escrow should be the standard, default escrow used on TOR and other networks. In fact, the default for any serious crypto transaction. It is literally the end of scams. I wish the Bitcoin community would get their head out of their sand and look at this escrow solution. So please market it aggressively and good luck adopting it. Also is there a brief write-up of how you guys script the double deposit? There is a lot of good techniques to use for it. If you ever wanna chat just PM me.

Congrats!

Thanks David for the kind words!

We both share the same mission and vision for true censorship-proof and free eCommerce. It's a shame this concept isn't getting more attention from the wider crypto community at the moment. From a personal point of view, I believe we're both building what the crypto ecosystem should have always been: decentralized. When you really think about it, we have this awesome decentralized currency (Bitcoin), yet the entire infrastructure on which it relies is centralized and now controlled by a few central parties. What a shame...and it seems some prominent crypto public figures are fine with that. Go figure!

Wishing you much success with Bitbay! I am sure both of our projects will get their time under the spotlight. It does seem like we are trending towards a better general understanding of what we're building, especially in light of the ever-intensifying regulations around crypto and also in light of companies like Bitpay shutting down their services in some countries and prohibiting all sorts of transaction types. Doesn't feel crypto, right?

We're fighting the same fight, stay strong! Cool

Yeah it feels like the whole world is upside down. Maybe it's because I've always valued freedom and when I first came into crypto I saw so many people who were using TOR, looking at open source, caring about protocols and even minor security changes. A coin would pump just for having a more secure algorithm. So to see the sheep flock to central exchanges and not even use escrow to lose funds due to theft over and over again even on TOR is just totally something I did not expect. Where did all these self-proclaimed decentralized enthusiasts go? All these rich yahoos throwing their money into nonsense and almost deliberately avoiding decentralized tech. What about the self-proclaimed crypto-anarchists? Where did they go and why aren't they here? So here we have software solutions to the final pieces of the freedom puzzle, decentralized markets, decentralized escrow, etc. Both projects have those things and of course some differences as there is only so much time to develop, as Particl has good anonymity and BAY has the peg to stabilize the economy. Yet we fight just to get the peg on exchanges because the central exchange devs usually don't understand it or don't want to spend the time adding a custom coin (at least some have agreed, I will believe it when it happens). And yet, even with those tools the volume needs to be there. The users need to be there. Even most DEX solutions have very little volume. With the boom of 2017 the vicious pumpers made an exit on almost every token across the board. With fake premine ICO sucking out most of the funding that should have gone to legitimate projects. So when will the world learn the example Bitcoin was able to teach them? To decentralize everything.

For the fork, both wallets will be updated. So it's okay if you use either QT or Halo wallet. Just always remember to have good backups. I like to use SSD style drives. There is also printing out wallet on paper and that sort of thing.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: September 12, 2019, 04:45:15 AM
I agree the exchanges have become nothing but tools and Bitbay should be a top crypto - the developer is one of the honest ones out there.  Too many people, including Qtum TARNished crypto and all the ICO bs.  It was a better time when people with certain beliefs were the backbone of Crypto - now the bankers, the people who destroyed our economy, the ones who have tried to shut crypto down are the ones trying to take it over. Can you imagine the government telling people they are not allowed to barter?  Does one pay taxes on Microsoft points they use to buy skins for their digital character?  IRS sends out letters asking people to go back and redo their tax returns because there name was on some list coinbase gave them. WTF? how does one even start - do we take the losses from crooks like GAW mINERS? HOW DO YOU regulate something that has already passed and at the time the government never once said it was property?Huh?   The gov should serve the people, not harm then for a few silver coins.

Qtum people knew it was a scam and invested anyways. This whole "funding X million in -10 seconds" is what has sped up this bubble as anticipated. Since if they fake the funding then they sell the coins on market and fund later. That is why I have always invested in projects
that have some sort of working software. Make them earn your dollars!

It is expected that governments and banks will go to control exchanges. After all, they usually focus on where the people physically go to make a profit. When they control that they influence the crowd and it's very hard to stop. I've always said if we want to change that system it's the media that needs to be decentralized even more-so than the money.

The government has never in history given a person a right they weren't already born with. Even hospitals and roads are run and built by people and would still exist without a government. Plus it's never a freedom to force others to serve us. Because to require a business to service you is to do so under threat of law and therefore threat of imprisonment/torture or death. It's sad that society has not moved beyond this barbaric idiocracy. However, this is why decentralization is important and even more so going off grid to gain ones independence from others. Especially since the foundation of trust was destroyed. This is why double deposit is important. The hard part is convincing people to use it when the majority of people lie to others in order to do business in the first place. Therefore all a government knows to do is steal god given liberties and freedoms. And the people have confused "laws" for morals. When in reality the law is almost always immoral and the punishments are a almost an unlimited amount of times more immoral than the law they are using to justify it.

Thus laws and morals are almost complete opposites and we live in a society that teaches kids to follow the law and not their hearts. Even though they instinctively want to do otherwise. When the law is unjust, the just thing to do is break it.

Sync done and BAY in my wallet, thanks a lot for you help buddy.
About stacking....what is the reward? I have just a thousand coins dunno if it's convenient for me.

Well at 1k coins you get 1-3% per year. 20 coins per block.
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: September 07, 2019, 05:48:20 AM
I am little confused  Huh I am presently using the QT wallet do I need to transfer it to the halo wallet? Seems the exchanges are all crooks, what do you suggest I do to upgrade to the new BAY?

You can use either wallet, it's okay as both will be supported for the fork.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: September 05, 2019, 03:38:02 AM

It is possible to change installation directory for QT wallet? I don't think I have enough space on my C:

Yes you can make a .bat file which is just a text file for example "runbitbay.bat" and just have it run BitBay-QT with the parameter datadir="(this is the directory to store data)"

Make sure in windows file explorer you see the full file extension

So for example this is the command you want in your bat file:

d:\bitbay\bitbayqt.exe datadir="d:\bitbay\bitbaydata"

In order to have a data directory there though it will ask for a config file. So in that directory create a file called bitbay.conf
Then enter the following in the text file:

server=1
rpcuser=bitbayrpc
rpcpassword=(make up a password)

If you want to add nodes do as follows:
addnode=104.172.24.79

Thank you, I'll try this.
What is the purpose of adding a node? Is it optional?

Edit: I tried this but the folder is still created in c:
These are my steps, maybe I forget something?

- bitbay folder on my k: drive
- Moved the .exe there and created a .bat file with inside k:\bitbay\bitbay-wallet-qt.exe datadir="k:\bitbay\bitbaydata"
- created a folder bitbaydata with a config file inside:
  server=1
  rpcuser=bitbayrpc
  rpcpassword=mypswrd

-Then I start the bat file and everything seems alright, except the data folder is still created on C:
 Do you have any idea where I am wrong?

So it wasn't creating files in the bitbaydata directory? You can see instructions here on bitcoin wiki as well... same logic.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory

Please check the directory in K for the files it should be creating. If you run from the console it might give you feedback

Nodes are optional

Let me know if it happens after you double check everything. Here is another example of how to type it...
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir=d:\BitcoinData

Now it seems to be alright.
Just have to add - before datadir as suggested in bitcoinwiki, that was the error.
Hope to get everthing sync in short time now. The deadline from bittrex it's tomorrow.
After I sync the blockchain, I think i create a new receiver address and send my BAY there.
Do I need something else?Like to encrypt the wallet?
What is the rpc password for?
Sorry for all this questions but I am short in time and not very experienced in doing this.
Thanks a lot for your reply.

If you are worried about the last minute closure of Bittrex you can still send to your receive address at the QT before the sync completes. The funds will show immediately on chainz block explorer and will eventually show once synced. Just always make sure you backup wallet.dat. And remember, your wallet.dat is now located in that data directory you just specified.

@ (tiny) Piston Honda - What have you ever tried to accomplish in your life, loser?
Why don't you tell us what you do for a living/education/accomplishments??

Me personally - I'm a Medical Doc (M.D.), Active 1st Responder and Contractor; and I have patents issued all over the planet and run 3 International companies. And, I will support the Bay Team until the end. I'm not a quitter (like you) and neither is D. Zimbeck.

So, what have you done to further mankind Piston?
BTW... Honda's have very small/tiny pistons.  Wink

Critics like you are demons who have never done anything unique or different.
You're most likely one of these millennial's who still live at home suckin' on Momma and Daddy's teats.
I am quite sure you are "special" - get a job, loser.  LOL   Smiley

lmao. wow... we have a winner here folks.  not sure why the calling out re. personal aspects but whatever, if it makes you feel better re. yourself and Bay.  it shows as very insecure.  but if you want to think i am some 21 year old talking shit from his mom's basement, then feel free lmao.  FYI i have a job and fam and am doing very well for myself now thanks to crypto, it's nice owning a few cars AND a HOME.

so have a nice life and think outside the box for once aside from just bitBay, just a word of advice is all.  IMO you're on a train to nowhere but whatever, to each their own.  nobody is doubting the dev/tech of bay, but man...the execution (as usual) is not going well at all....failed promises can hurt as we all know.  Even your master dev there said bay is at the mercy of the fucking exchanges to make this peg happen!  man...i would want the power to make shit happen for my coin, NOT some exchange (and this is IF the peg is even successful...you all still don't even know what the result will be lol).  especially with no name exch's run by millenials you mentioned above lol.  not to mention nobody still knows about bay, sooo where's the marketing? lol.  but whatever, hopefully you hit your magic number and get rich from bay and aren't just a bag holder.....good luck with that.

I remember when you used to say this project would go nowhere. But did it not go from 100k usd marketcap after Bobsurplus debacle all the way to 500 million? And that was without the peg. If I had not honored the development promises it would not have happened.

(FYI I don't moderate this thread. Recently one of my comments was deleted in response to your older comment so just set the record straight)

You are absolutely right about exchanges. We don't want to depend on exchanges. If we have to go the DEX route we can but I don't like the low volume on DEX. This is like shouting in a crowded grand central station or pissing in the wind. Also consider the marketing at this stage whats the point? We either get somewhere with volume or not. After that then we can market till the cows come home.

I've considered encouraging and advising friends who want to start their own exchanges. If I advise on a multisig exchange then that cuts out almost all security concerns on these turn key exchange mafia theft machines. But still they need to get some volume and users. However consider this peg can do well at low volume. That is precisely what it was designed for!

It bothers me a lot about being at the mercy of central exchanges, they get the volume. If we get censored then what? The peg is a powerful tool even you can't deny that. Look at dynamicpeg.com, the thing tracks frikkin 30 dollars. It started at 20 cents. I'm the first to admit this is only testnet. However I asked the guys to recently sell all testnet coins to simulate our current situation. They dropped the price 99.9%. Then Craig set it to a few hundred dollars an hour buy and within a few days it was up something crazy like 300,000%

So this system can work if it's in the right hands. We have to get on an exchange with traffic. If we get censored it's absolutely not our problem or fault. However you are right and if I have to take it into my own hands I will.

I'm planning to get some income streams on the side building houses. I run a block factory. And yes I see the irony of this. I'm a real life block producer. Satoshi-Block-a-motor. Proof of WORK! They are compressed earth blocks made from dirt. If you are wondering about block time I produce 2 blocks every 7 seconds. If all that works out I can still freelance this. And I'm okay for the long haul I waited 5 years and can wait another 6 months if that's what it takes. I'm sure some of the other investors have seen the harsh reality of a bull market turning into a bubble. But it's not over until you quit.

Regarding Bitker, OEX and others thievery...

The peg is such a game changer and because there is zero regulation, the current exchanges have no need or desire to change the status quo.

Maybe BAY should create its own exchange. We have the dynamic peg test site operating smoothly. We should convert it to an active exchange without the derivative aspect of the criminal exchanges.

I have to agree.  This has to be the optimal solution.

All of BAY's problems solved at a stroke.

It really is a no-brainer.   Tongue

I'm talking to some people who might want me advise them on security of such a thing. However even so, volume is no guarantee. It would have to be at least a multisig exchange. And then somehow it would have to generate some volume.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: September 02, 2019, 09:43:39 PM
Bitker seems to be closing,
with many projects being
unable to recover theirs.

Some say their coins have been sold
by Bitker themselves, scamming all.

Maybe better to be cautious,
and check before losing out.

DYOR,
Cheers

Yes this is what happened. That makes two in a row, OEX and Bitker to steal from us. The news doesn't even bother to talk about it anymore too. What a sad state of affairs this world is in.

Hello.

I have installed the halo market client I have synced the blockchain.
Why I do not see any offers in that market list?
Do I need to make any additional configurations to see the market listings or open any ports on the router?

Another question:

Where is the database (blockchain stored)

I see the directory "~/BitBay/bitbaydata/" is this where the blockchain is stored?
In case I want to install the client also  on another machine is it enough to copy that folder and the keys from the "~/BitBay/" directory
so that I do not need to sync from 0?

Thanks.

The blockchain and all files are local in c:\bitbay or whatever install directory you had. Honestly when I coded it, that made more sense.

There are no orders on the markets mainly because we have been working on the web markets so a lot of users put their orders there. I should actually pull the orders and link the both of them but since the web double deposit does a different protocol from the client which uses bitmessage and different logic to allow web and desktop to do orders is a whole coding task.

Still the markets are perfectly functional. Also it's worth noting if there was any offers they might take an hour upon first install to populate. You can post a custom offer and see it populate pretty quick. Remember it's completely decentralized like TOR.

And most importantly, your keys are not wallet.dat for the markets software (but for the QT it is standard of course). They are the two private keys you created upon setup. This is much more secure because it's multisig, the keys can be in different locations, the files are static and cannot be corrupted. However remember you must backup BOTH key files. If for example you named them the default key1.private and key2.private then those must be saved. Notice they also have accompanying "share" files for things like public key encryption and joint accounts. Those are key1.share and key2.share.

Which is the best place to store BAY out of Bittrex actually?
Is there any secure market or wallet?

The most secure market is the Markets Wallet AKA the Halo client. It's two keys multisignature with options like being able to spend from two computers and store keys in separate locations. That wallet also has the decentralized markets and unbreakable contracts (two-party escrow).  QT is also a popular option. We also have our web wallet. Regardless of the method used you must always have multiple backups of your keys.

Yeah escrow over the markets is very simple actually! Take a few minutes to complete a deal and it price tracks down to the satoshi with whatever max or min increase/decrease. Also if you go on Telegram or Slack it might be possible to find a well known community member who can sell. However at this point it might be hard to find anyone who wants to sell because it's obviously way oversold probably due to Bittrex dumping their coins.

Where can I buy BAY right now?

LAToken
Cointelligence (https://www.cointelligence.com/exchanges_list/latoken/) says LAToken has very low trust (1/10). Cointelligence also says the LAToken exchange could probably be easily hacked. BAY not currently listed. (https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/latoken/)

Chaoex
Centralized. BAY not currently listed. (https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/bitker/)

Bitker
BAY is not currently listed. (https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/bitker/)

Cryptobridge
Does not currently support BAY. (https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/cryptobridge/)

Nova
Cannot currently provide service to the US. (https://novaexchange.com/help/faq/)

Could this be the reason behind the price drop?

There may be a time where it's not listed until those deals finish. In the meantime best to buy OTC. Heck our software has a coins for cash template with double deposit escrow. However I think a veteran community member can also be worth buying OTC

I do get concerned with places like LAToken and we just have to hope coinintelligence is exaggerating. It would be unfortunate to see another OEX situation (although it really wouldn't surprise me). If that happens we might have to force double deposit for any future negotiations. Of course atomic trading is always on the table too. We always have options. Just will be a moment of patience until the listings are finalized.

@Pajulapoiss
The Bit Bay Coin and Polish Exchange are not the same.
It's all been very confusing over the years.

Hopefully David and the team can make some kind of obvious differentiation between the two after the peg...
And hopefully this question gets the attention that a slight name change may need to happen to prevent this confusion in the future.
Thanks

Where Can i find more info about the peg you are talking about?

Well you can see our peg in action on testnet at dynamicpeg.com

It tracks around $15 even when we try to crash it, it will eventually find it's way back to that level.
Consider though that this does mean some of the users coins switch from BAY to BAYR in the process of deflation. If a user sells
all of their liquidity they are unable to negatively impact the market.

Also there is a lot of info on our site at bitbay.market

There is also a good pdf explainer we use to talk to exchanges here:

Hello BitBay Community.

I'm DavinciJ15 I´m developing Pandora´s Wallet and I am planning on adding BitBay to our wallet and test out the send and receive.

Can you please contribute a small amount to get the testing running.
BitBay Address: BFVRqbhy2rCtUEKb5aTi5CayVHBK15XVDT

Thanks for the help.

Be aware of the dynamic peg as you will have to keep track of liquid and reserve balances. Such as on www.dynamicpeg.com

There is going to be a new wallet for the peg? Will I have to switch coins?

You can keep the coins in the wallet however everyone will have to update either their QT wallet or the Markets wallet. We will trigger the fork once everyone is upgraded and also once the exchanges have properly tested integration of the peg.
