lol i love it

https://twitter.com/Poloniex/status/770858288783196160

We're waiting to get clearance from law enforcement before releasing the WhiteHat ETC now that the withdrawal contract is ready.

gosh i love it

its difficult to undo a crime by adding a crime and a crime and a crime dig dig dig

So poloniex will release hack's withdraw, am I right?

Read the tweet!  "waiting to get clearance from law enforcement"
So you need to ask "law enforcement" when they plan to give the go ahead and release the funds?
Anyhow, "law enforcement" are probably trying to open Poloniex accounts as we speak and create short positions.
You will have to wait until the "law enforcement" is ready now, they could do it in the next 10 min or the next 10 years.
Just think yourself lucky that the "law enforcement" is involved, at least it gets them off the street and away from executing their citizens.
I think its in one of those countries that "enforce the law" rather than "uphold the law".  i.e. a police state! so prob corruption involved.

so ETC finished now? Dropped to 185k sats... will this one ever see a XMR type of pump? Dropping from 650k to 500k then 400k, 2 weeks ago 300k, last week 250k, now below 200k... what is next? 0 sats?

Price should not be used as a barometer for success or failure. In the case of ETC the hashing power is the main factor that will decide if it has succeeded or failed. I keep observing it here http://fork.ethstats.net/

It was below 500 GHS/s at one moment ago and I feared that it was the beginning of a big fall. But it rose back above it so we can relax for now.

I only run at 1/4 of my hash power and underclock when the price is low,  As soon as the price picks up i run flat out and overclock.   I keep observing it here https://www.whattomine.com/

Also, if ETH haspower goes over 5000 GH/s i point some of my hashpower at them too, to push up their difficulty and make it harder for them to profit.

I think it is called "the weaponisation of hashpower".

Hay Beeb,  how do you work out who is winning a war?  do you count how many shots have been fired?

This project probably will not succeed on it's own. You guys are going to have to get out there and make the case. You are going to have to explain to everyone who will listen how this project represents a principle and a legal precedent so much greater than a single hack or individual hacks that are bound to happen.

I really hope it doesn't die. I loved the idea of ethereum. That idea is dead on the fork chain that everyone is blindly following. And its just a tiny little flame against the cold cold world here.

Thank you, people fear the Dao Hacker will dump.  Time will need to pass before people realise that it was either an inside job by the Foundation or....   The Hacker is now on the Classic side.   S/he does have 10%

But remember, s/he is among us.  It could be anyone!

As for everyone blindly following the foundation, I fear people will lose again bigtime as the EF sure seem to screw up everything they touch.  Time will tell.

But thank you for your words.

I hate waking up dead... I am glad your OK.  Sorry to hear about the tooth.
You are right I think we are entering the roller coaster phase of this amusement park.
It lasted a third of a century, I'm sure my dentist will patch it up. I rang him up and he seemd real excited about it.
Roller coaster phase hay?  I think i may need some sick bags.

i generated an address using http://classicetherwallet.com
0xE1EbbF63Cf31A8b645261cD5771eFf70f9197f4d
but now polo says that this address in not valid.
whats the problem?

EDIT: i tried and tried and tried.... and now it worked. one test ETC was sent.

Be careful with 'urls' without the "s"      e.g. https://  and  not http://
s = secure
Why don't you use ours?

Light Client-Side Wallet by elaine
https://elaineo.github.io/etherwallet/#generate-wallet
It is the same but coded by our own devs (devs are not cheap to hire BTW, but security never comes cheap i guess)

Does anyone know how to seprate ETC from ETH chain or is ETC still using same formats and have to backup one in order to use another etc. If so then I propose an idea to make app data folders different for next wallet update so that it uses say ethc then to use ethereum Smiley

You cannot use a ETH 'geth' and a ETC 'geth' based wallet on the same machine.
when you run 'geth' it will look for your chainstate and keystore.
It will not care what side of the chain you are on it will just pick up your address and run with it.
This is a sure way of getting replays.  You only need 'geth' for mining and smart contracting.

Why not use a 'geth' based wallet for one chain and a Light Client-Side Wallet for the other chain?  Then no worries

Use http://etherx.com/ to check your wallet is Vulnerable to Replay or  Immune from Replay.
Just enter your address in top right field

I remember that the people around here have misguided me twice in buying and selling ETH.

You have to decide for yourself and make and own your decision.  Maybe you want someone else to decide so you can blame them if it does not go the the way you want?  Anyhow, it's like politics, full of FUD, manipulation and false truths. You have to make up your own mind.  Then if it goes wrong you can blame you!  Ask for advice and you ask your adversary to fill you up with FUD.

Anyhow, i have been sleeping, I broke a tooth and then took too many pain killers and then slept for too long.  I am so glad i was not driving.
I could have woke up dead!
Looks like the chart rescaled a few times while i slept.  Now everything is really really small accept for those big candles over the last hour or so.
Looks like the price might move tonight.   Wink

When can we start mining XMC?
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 30, 2016, 09:02:33 AM
New to ethereum and never used before..

http://etherscan.io/tx/0x3e1ffa4361dc85f06a47c14f8c300e7d49619c049f52667b794fcd152b20abe2

Here transaction cost is more.

Both the address on this transaction are subject to replay attack.  Put the address in here and check  https://etherx.com/

The explorer you are using is for eth.  The one i give is for ETC.

If you are not careful, coin spent on ETH will also take effect on ETC coin and vice versa.  (and it  burns high gas to do it too)

You must get different addresses for eth and etc.  I cannot speak for ETH but we have this sorted on ETC.

Get yourself new wallets.  There is a large post about it on most of the pages of this thread.  It has the latest wallets and explorers, forums, and the like I will post it next

(i don't like using the abbreviation “etc” for “et cetera” any more)   Lips sealed

If you choose the "light" or the "Google" wallets, you can use them without waiting to sync.

Good luck!
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 30, 2016, 08:23:53 AM
Eth classic now monero classic. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1600638

What next usd classic?  Huh

If the dollar forks, both chains will fail.  However, I think the monero classic idea has legs!

It is good for devs to fear the users ability to use the "open source" software to compete with the main chain.  It will make them less arrogant.  Maybe i should not tar all devs with same brush.   Maybe I have been around the foundation too long!  Huh

But good to see the small guy give it a go.  However, it just goes to show, we lead the way.

209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMC] Monero Classic - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 30, 2016, 07:50:05 AM
So, Are you planning to Fork the blockchain and give all XMR owners free XMC in relation to their XMR holdings just like they did with ETC?
We have received positive results from quite a number of the top DNM vendors across AlphaBay and Dream marketplace, who give full support to this project and will be joining the new marketplace which only accepts Monero Classic.

Any firm offers?
These people are spoilt for choice when it comes to a new crypto over BTC and will need their palms greasing.  They are not going to risk their system without insurance.

Also, I am yet to understand how currency speculation will pan out with AlphaBay and Dream market users.

These people need a coin to be stable in price.  We all know how new coins can swing +/-30% in price from day to day thanks to pumps and dumps.

If i had a gram-a-day smack habit, (which i don't), I'm not sure i would be too happy (or well) with the currency fluctuations that are involved in the early days of making a coin successful.  Moreover: It takes time to gain trust.

Also, AlphaBay and Dream Market vendors have to put-up coin to the platform/market and to the owners to be able to sell their product.  What happens if the coin has some bad times and loses value.  Big incentive for vendors to welsh on deals with their customers if they are only to lose a plummeting retainer and know they will soon be back under a different username once stability kicks back in.

I haven't got my head around the Mathematical/Social ecological validity of it all yet.  However, I am watching both XMR & XMC very very closely.

I just have a nagging feeling that one of these XMR or XMC coins is a government honey trap.  However, I may have a play with this for a while.
I like an "outsider"  Wink  This maybe the one that is not the FEDs

In Addition : I do my "DD" well and always keep an ear to the ground, i like to read stuff, Market vendors are one thing.  Are the people that run the current Markets on side?  They don't like people having too much influence in their market, ask @pathfinder about that one.

Ok, you got me interested!  What percentage of coins will be in the hands of devs?

211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 30, 2016, 06:03:46 AM
its ok Longsnowsm we know what you mean.  And thank you for your contribution.  I think that people understand what EthereumClassic is about by now.  They are now worried over the Dao Attacker, who can get his/her hands on the ETC part of the Dao funds in 9 hours time.  Even though it is less than 10%!

If the Dao Attacker is part of the foundation they will sell hard however, they may have become a Classic fan!  Why not?
There is a growing body of people that would choose Classic over Foundation Coin.

If the Dao Attacker is not part of the foundation they may very well be a supporter already!

The word "classic" gets people in a fluster
(however, i like the idea of Monero Classic and may look into it further. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1600638)

Today we get to find out!  However: it could get bloody messy too, but we have survived this far and i can see use coming through this ok too.

I can afford to lose my stake without any major issue,  I would be a bit peed off over the time i have already put in though, can't get that back!  Oh well, You have to speculate to accumulate.   Wink

212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 29, 2016, 03:10:52 PM

If Satoshi were some way to "prove" if s/he is in fact doing things in Bitcion, that would be cool too.
Maybe a photo too of @greenuser, @Satoshi and @Dao-Hacker in a big group hug, lol,  Cheesy  I can wait to read BitcoinMagazine!  Undecided

Maybe get Barry in the photo too.  Why the hell not.

Because as soon as someone's smart contract went wrong, the blocksize was a bit tight, or the difficulty hurt too much, they would be hounded and hounded to use their influence to roll back the network.  That's why!
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 29, 2016, 03:01:53 PM
Isn't the price dropping because on Aug 31st the hacker will finally be able to withdraw his ETC ?

I think he has access today.  Again unless the hacker is stupid he is not going to "dump".

The Dao hacker is very good at code. S/he has taught us that much already. I am hoping s/he will come and work for the community at Ethereum Classic (if s/he is not working for us already).  It is better to have her/him onboard i think!

S/He can teach and check the code of others as well as do development.  S/He will be made welcome as long as s/he does not reveal his/her identity, s/he will be fine.  Wink

I think I am picking up what you are putting down about him/her. If there was some way to "prove" if s/he is in fact doing said things.  It would really boost the confidence of the people currently invested and the community.

Undecided

Wow guys.
What a nice Hard Fork Timeline.

Good work. Have a nice job day!

What?  The one on Ethereum Classic Website   https://ethereumclassic.github.io/
Yes, it is our history! and a lesson for Bitcion?

with regard to wallets

this is the simplest solution to all transactions for ETC

https://www.myetherwallet.com

Just make sure you are operating on https - bookmark it and ALWAYS use the bookmark.  All signing is done client side and only the signed transaction is broadcast.

You can split SIMPLY to prevent replays and send ETC or ETH ONLY transactions. Save your wallet files on USB memory sticks - offline most of time. No syncing or Ethereum Wallet ever again.

We have our own

Light Client-Side Wallet by elaine
So no need to download the blockchain https://elaineo.github.io/etherwallet/#generate-wallet
Send with Replay Protection on the light wallet https://elaineo.github.io/etherwallet/#replay-protection

take a look, remind you of anything?  (https://www.myetherwallet.com)  only all eth stuff removed!

Maybe you should read and check out the shoutout posts "for thoes too shy to ask!" Wink

We have 3 new wallets that have no eth stuff in, 4 soon!  (Node, Light, Google chrome, and soon Android)

I see some discussion here again about Hybrid POW/POS - and a switch to some new POW algo which is entirely novel.

You need to understand that ETC needs to have some serious DEV horsepower to carry this off

We have decentralized governance model.  If you want to bring about change in this coin, feel fee, join our slack and make a go of it.
You will be made welcome.  However: no one has control, even some of our Devs are anonymous,  they code and get paid in crypto.
We could have anyone working for us for all we know, Eth Devs?  Dao hacker?  Satoshi himself?  Frank who cleans my windows?
We will never know!
Do we need to know, if the code is checked and rechecked by different people.
People that have not met or do not know each others name or country they live in?
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 29, 2016, 08:59:55 AM
Hi Bitpop! Long time!

Guys you need a marketing re-brand. I cringe every time I hear the phrase "Eithereum classic". You guys arent "Ethereum classic". You are just Ethereum. They are the ones who hard forked. NOT YOU. Please stop calling yourself Ethereum classic and instead refer to this project as just Ethereum.

There is a problem with this you say? How will people know which Ethereum you are talking about. Simple. The guys on the fork should hence forth be referred to as "Neo-Ethereum".

Please. Spread the word. The guys who are actually Ethereum, real Ethereum, shouldn't be referring to themselves as "Ethereum classic". Do not let your opposition control language especially when you guys have the intellectual and moral high ground.

I thought I was the only one who thought so.
ETC really need to take back the "ethereum" name... let eth foundation rebrand.

but unfortunately, this is kinda already established, so it won't be easy.

Just gotta start saying it right. Be the agent of change. If a few people start doing it. And a few more follow. I bet it will catch like wild fire. Grin

Yes correct, I feel like they stole our brand.

We understand, we feel like slockit stole our network.  I did not invest in the Dao but i loved "Ethereum coin" (eth).  I am not going to abandon the chain i love for the "customers" that use it for bad coding.  They should have had the Dao code "peer reviewed" by the community.  Slockit screwed up!  Slockit and Dao people should have took the pain, but them and "eth devs" wanted all Eth holders to pay the price.  They burnt your/our brand!
Never mind, its done now.

================================

In addition however, Code is law?

If  Eugene and Vladimir  want to have a $10 bet on who will win US election so it could be done like this.

Eugene bets Hillary will win.  Vladimir  bets Trump will win.
Eugene and Vladimir both give Mohamed $10,
After election Mohamed  gets a US newspaper to see who won.   Trump has won!
Mohamed gives $20 to winner  Vladimir

Eugene cries "no, we did not shake hands, I had my fingers crossed, I will take you to “court” fetch the “law”",
Big fight starts.  A “Judge” has to make a “judgement”. Eugene  threatens Mohamed,  Police are called.

======== Or ========

If  Eugene and Vladimir  want to have a $10 bet on who will win US election so it could be done like this.

Eugene bets Hillary will win.  Vladimir  bets Trump will win.
Eugene and Vladimir get Mohamed to write a SMART CONTRACT.
They both agree that the “unstoppable code” will “judge” the outcome and input $10 .
After the election the SMART CONTRACT scans all the media from lots of different sources and decided that the evidence says Trump has won.
SMART CONTRACT  pays  Vladimir

Eugene cries "no, we did not shake hands, I had my fingers crossed, I will take you to “court” fetch the “law”",
Big fight starts.  No “Judge” has to make a “judgement”, “code is law”.

Eugene goes to the Federal Reserve and asks Ben Bernanke  to recall all the dollar bills and issue new ones called fork-dollar bills?

"But I thought SMART CONTRACT means you don't need to trust a 3rd party?"  said Vladimir & Mohamed  Wink

Wallets here:
Ethereum Classic Mist Wallet - 0.8.1 (1.4.10 go-ethereum) by whatisgravity
https://github.com/ethereumproject/mist/releases/tag/5cbe0c0
Get new "etc only" geth node here https://github.com/ethereumproject/go-ethereum/releases/tag/6aaf5f3

i am still not sure how to do this. if i download this version i have to apps called Ethereum-Wallet.
i need a forked version because i have eth.

is it possible to just rename the wallet i need for etc to Ethereum-Wallet-c.app?

i am using OS X.

You can rename "Ethereum-Wallet-c.app" to just "geth" if you wish, that is what I did.
Read the github on the link,

"Geth 1.4.10 build that is exclusively for the Ethereum Classic network. This node has all the DAO code removed from the client and requires no additional flags to use the Ethereum classic network." by whatisgravity

I would not recommend putting this "geth" wallet on the same machine that has been running the forked version unless you know what you are doing.  It will pick up your eth keystore and use your eth address.  This is where you can get replays if you do this.

Also you will have the wrong blocks in the roaming folder.  You need to start from fresh on a new machine or remove all your eth files from your machine and do the "geth account new" command in geth to get a new address and new "keystore".

Remember to keep your “keystore” backed up.  It contains info to recreate you wallet on any machine

Your old "Mist" will work fine as a GUI to access your new "geth" node address

Why not use a light wallet for one chain and a full node wallet for the other chain?

I worry about ETC. It is like the miners are ready to right away dump everything they earn and when the price is now very low, they are also ready to leave and point all their power on ETH. Is there any update from Charles Hoskinson? What are they planning?

Where have you been reading?  Do you mean Ethereum Miners? Some Ethereum Classic miners have been put off due to all the ddos attacks but we have defended the coin well  Cheesy  and a core group of mining is strong.
They are well organised and keep in contact via Ethereum Classic Forum and Slack.

Message Charles on slack if you want to speak to him, you can join here https://ethereumclassic.herokuapp.com  Then you will here stuff first hand, He will talk to anyone who is interested in ECT.  Nice bloke!

Well i have be comfortable with ethereum classic, and i think it is mean real ethereum. We need another innovation for ETC is like making wallet ETC on android platform or another ideas. Than we change name of ethereum classic.

Phone wallts due in October please read the DEVCHAT on the regular "shoutout" for info on development...and here it comes....

Wait for it....
