861  Economy / Economics / Re: Big Crash coming on: March 02, 2016, 08:20:50 PM
This is completely off topic. No one was posting about currencies in your quoted posts. Please, do not spam this discussion  Roll Eyes

I found this interesting graphic today. It shows the S&P 500 development 2009 and 2016. Do you see the similarities?
Very Big CHART
This will be very interersting to watch.
Be aware, though it looks ......etc

You are right! The world has had half the debts in 2008. Seriously, there were implemented new financial instruments ...etc
You never know what can happen in the future. It is very hard to predict a currency and that is very bad.
You just only have to wait and what is going to happen in the future. But holding is better than spend now on this time.

No, it it has everything to do with Big Crash coming.  Its so not off topic.
862  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: February 27, 2016, 06:25:43 AM
No, you dont understand.  Bitcoin is secure regardless of the halving.  It can only go up.
I support it because it is an anonymous currency.  The governments of the world want rid of cash and want money all electronic so it can all be accounted for. So they can have controll. I love Bitcoin for what it has done for the worlds markets.

If you wanted to buy crack, would you want to pay with paypal or Bitcoin?
863  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 27, 2016, 05:29:52 AM
The U3 in question has an uptime of about 4 weeks at the mo.  That is how oftern i shut it down to clean it.  And as for cost.  I live on £60 per week state pension.  The PSU, Fan and leads were part of my Windows 98 / pentium 4 setup that i got second hand in 2001.  Its nice to see bits of it being used again.  The U3 is the only miner i have that was new.  My S3 and S1 was purchased on ebay as spares or repair and I rebuilt them.  I have built my rig from junk.  So no expense.  I only started mining as a way of heating the flat cheaply.  Its good at keeping the mould off the walls.
And as for how long it took.  Well i cant afford a tv licence, I don't work, i live in a rural area.  And its dark for 18 hour a day here in winter. Yes...I have too much time on my hands.

Also i dont run on a full PC,  It is a small HP mini 10inch screen ultraportable.  I took out the HHD and put windows on a USB stick.  I also took out the battery.  about 80 watts on the wall with the fans and two bifurys too.
864  Economy / Economics / Re: Big Crash coming on: February 27, 2016, 05:11:51 AM
Just to let you guys know a big crash is coming in 2016 in the economy. There is going to be a huge financial crisis but it will be worse than 2009.
The bitcoin price will skyrocket to over $10,000. However  bitcoin will be banned in all western countries. If you are reading this living in the west you should make preparations to move to Russia or China they are the only places you will be safe owning bitcoins.

The crisis will be so big it will destroy entire countries and in 2017 there will be a civil war in the USA, UK and western europe. After this the world will never be the same again it will change so much by 2020 it will be unrecognizable compared to today.

The person who posted this has amazing incite.  I predict that the population of the world will half in five years.  Putin and Trump will go to war.  China will join in.  Diesh will hit the the USA with a massive dirty nuclear attack and there will be massive casualties.   America will fall and fill Europe with more refugees from the US.

Bitcoin will be the only currency.  But people will survive and it will be a better world.
I look forward to our uncertain future.
865  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: February 27, 2016, 04:23:49 AM
I don't care how worthless Bitcoin becomes, I'm not shutting down my mine.  Its the only heating i have.

Anything that makes it more difficult to obtain can only be a good thing for Bitcoin.

It will not die.  How would criminals launder their money?  It could destroy the international elicit narcotics market?  One of the few growth areas in our global economy.  Plus, how would Wiki Leaks get paid for publishing American Security Secrets?

No, It will continue to grow.  This is Global Insurrection Against Banker Occupation and you good people are party to it all.  It canot be stoped.  Within the next 3 years Bitcoin will be the reserve currency and we will see the dollor fall from its reserve status, just like the pound did.

They killed Gaddafi because he was about to get an Islamic Gold Dinar off the gorund and the arrab world was about to adotp it in place of the dollor.  Gaddafi Gold for Oil Project.

No, this time Bitcoin will be unstopable. Well,  who would they Bomb this time, everyone with a bitcoin miner?
866  Economy / Economics / Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever on: February 27, 2016, 03:35:00 AM
Think of the question this way. Why You Should Never Sell Your ACCETS, Ever!  Like even if you were bitten by a venomous snake and the antiserum was just a couple of dollars.  Even if you were living in the Jungle, Calais, France and you haden't eaten for five days. Cos selling assets is foolish, even if you are elderly and destitute.

Anyway, my wallet is encrypted with AXcrypt 15 numbers/letter key.  The key is not writen down anywhere.  When i die no one will ever have access to my Bitcoin.  This is why you should never sell Bitcoin.  You may need them in the afterlife.  Maybe this thread should be called "Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever" even after death!
867  Other / Off-topic / Re: Have you ever been with a prostitute? on: February 27, 2016, 03:13:00 AM
There is no such thing as free sex.  I would never let a man fuck me unless he pays for my food, clothing, accommodation, protection, healthcare costs, transport and lifestyle.  How could a woman ever have any respect for a man that wants physical intimacy for zero return?  I am old enough to remember that you shoulden't even kiss a man untill he puts a ring on you finger.  Moreover, an expensive gold ring and dimmond ring at that.
QuestionAuthority you are so right. When it comes to sex, CAPITALISUM IS KING.  Only communists and hippies believe in free love.
868  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Efficient USB miners on: February 27, 2016, 02:21:51 AM
I haven't had any problem keeping the shop warm this winter. Course we've only had about five actually cold days so far this winter (at least here; almost literally everywhere else in the country and even my own state has been hammered with snows since November) but 100KW of miners are making short work of it.
My S1 and my S3 are the only heating i have.  If it hadn't been for thoes miners i would have had a very cold damp winter.  I would have run them even if bitcoin was worthless just to keep warm. Here in the UK the humidity is always high.  Gas heating adds to the condensation.  Thanks to Bitmain, I dont have to wipe the black mould from my walls anymore.  I am a very happy miner.

I don't understand the current trust system.  Moreover, i am shocked trust still exists in the 21st century. Roll Eyes

gypsies or its not romania..
Nice to see Roma worldwide mining coin. Funny we love unregulated industry.   Hope they are stealing the electricity and squating the unit.  We used to have it like that in this country (UK) before the EU.  Anyway, they look like rich gypsies to me. "Dids!"  but good luck to them.

So all depends on your situation and controller you use.  I personally liked my U3's after I got crazy guy's firmware on a R1.

What is this? Is this a firmware update for the antminer U3?

Not an upgrade for the U3 but an upgrade for the R1 Antminer firmware, which is then used to control the U3's

Rich

It's a huge upgrade if your going from no automation.  The R1 with crazy guy's firmware if it detects zombie it is able to try to fix and even restart R1 to get back up and running.   Compare that to when I had to babysit it seemed my U3's it was a great change.

I had 3 US's and before automation multiple times a day I got zombies.

I have a U3 running on windows 7 and i did have problems with it going Zombie every 24h but i switched to using high quality USB leads.  They need to be screened usb leads.  I used some i had from an old printer.  The leads have clear insulation so you can clearly see the screening braid.  They are  thick and chunky so i guess that they have wire with a greater cross sectional area than the flimsy ones you get supplied with the U3.  The leads have a ferrite filter on the USB B end too.

Also be sure to use a good USB HUB and an ATX PSU that can do at least 10A.  My ATX is just 160watt  from an old pentium 4 pc and powers the 5v hub as well as the 12v for the U3.
The U3 pulls around 4.4A under normal load but they can surge for short durations up to 8A.  (the psu bricks that come with them will catch fire and are dangerous)
Also use the latest cgminer4.9.2 (no over-clock code)
The U3 gets hot on the blue base too so i added a small 12v CPU fan to blow air underneath.  I hooked the cooling fan between the +5V and +12V rails of the ATX giving 7v. This way the 12V fan is not too noisy as it is not screaming flat out.

So no! they will not work well  “out the box”, Moreover: they are a 50gh/s miner not 63gh/s.  Over-clock at your own peril.
However, No baby sitting.  Fit and forget. And... you can get them for £30 second hand on ebay as people don't get on with them.
Mine just mines!

Have you read the Cornell Paper Con?

So how secure will the network be when the pools start to turn on each other withholding blocks.  Look what happen on Slush recently.  Very low luck due to a large user withholding blocks?
There's no sign of pools decreasing in popularity in the future, nor bitcoin being doomed, nor withholding attacks increasing in frequency, nor pools attacking other pools - in fact the only pool that ever did that was slush himself who pointed his dns at another pool when he was getting DDoSed. Publicity stunts feh...

@ Con, Is this your opinion and does it have any ecological validity? Can you supply references with rigour for a counter argument to the Cornell Paper?  It would make sense for a pool operator to attack their competition as you so rightfully say "one cannot prove whether they're doing it intentionally or unwittingly".  Thus yielding excellent plausible deniability.  (This is not an accusation BTW)

@ anyone.  Can anyone help / advise how I can solo mine with USB miners using cgminer or bfgminer, and Antminers S1, S3 etc.  I know i can use third parties to to solo mine but i would like to SOLO mine myself as being disabled, independence is important to me.  I don't really care if i don't win a block but if by some small chance i do, I will spend it on health care for myself and my wheelchair bound partner.  We would like to some usable teeth as it affects what we can eat.

I am a current Windows user as I have found it to be one of the only OS I am able to use.  I am partially sighted so need a system with dragon speak type software, good magnification and high contrast visual interface.  I do have someone that can read from a on a screen for me but they are not computer literate.

Is there a Linux based system that has these features?  If so what is it called? Where can I get it?

Or.... can anyone advise me on a suitable rpclient for windows,

If there is someone out there that can help?  I have approx 50 hours per week that I can dedicate to this project (I struggle to know how to fill my time) however, I don't have much of a budget.

I will however give BTC0.03 to the person that can help me get up and running solo mining.

Thanks in advance

Paula

So it is a waste of time following these instructions https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=315477.0 ?

bitcoin-qt by itself on windows doesn't have the rpc client support...
...any more

They're very old instructions. You need the rpclient installed as well on windows, not sure what binary that is specifically. Linux doesn't have this limitation.

How difficult this is proving to you is showing how infrequently people solo mine on windows any more: i.e. never.

Yes, that's what i assumed, as you... are the only one that has replied to this post after more than 50 people have viewed.
OK, thanks... i will Look into  rpclient or a Linux distro as i can run one on a live stick i guess.  I 'm using what kit i can beg, find or borrow.

So how secure will the network be when the pools start to turn on each other withholding blocks.  Look what happen on Slush recently.  Very low luck due to a large user withholding blocks?

Published by Slush Pool: 2016-02-06 17:02:27

"Dear miners, we would like to inform you that we have detected and
resolved an unintentional block withholding attack.

The issue has been discovered a week ago and we have immediately
taken an action by contacting the particular miner. The cause turned
out to be a bug in a custom mining firmware, which has been promptly
fixed by the miner. We have no indication that there was any bad
intention. The fixed firmware solved two blocks since then so we
can consider this issue as resolved.

A recent time period of worse luck can be at least partly attributed to this incident.

Block withholding attack is a well-known weakness of the whole pool
mining principle and no public pool is immune against it.

As a by-product of the bad luck investigation, we have implemented
a new method how to mathematically prove that the pool does not cheat on
miners. This feature will be released after the public interface has been tweaked.
The release is planned towards the end of next week."

Also: Cornell's Paper Suggests Mining Pools Will Shrink in Size
http://cointelegraph.com/news/new-cornell-paper-suggests-mining-pools-will-shrink-in-size

Or in your own words...
“Solo mining can be done efficiently as a single pool entry or a backup to
any other pooled mining and it is recommended everyone have solo mining set up
as their final backup in case all their other pools are DDoSed/down for the
security of the network.
To enable solo mining, one must be running a local
bitcoind/bitcoin-qt or have one they have rpc access to. To do this, edit your
bitcoind configuration file (bitcoin.conf) with the following extra lines,
using your choice of username and password:”
(cgminer-4.9.2-windows-README)

Hmmm... "No stratum,GBT or solo support in pool 0 http://localhost:8332 unable to USE"

So much for a decentralised monetary system.

bitcoin-qt by itself on windows doesn't have the rpc client support.
So it is a waste of time following these instructions https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=315477.0 ?
as i was under the impression the :
Code:
daemon=1
server=1
in my bitcoin.conf would sort that.

So i have to start bitcoind to support mining?

It's sooooo difficult finding good info Angry  Entropy isn't what it used to be.
Morover: Schrödinger's cat would fix it i bet.  Back to the scrawling board i guess?

875  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP NEEDED - Solo Mining Rig Problems on: February 24, 2016, 12:17:20 AM

OK i added this bat file to the cgminer directory
Code:
cgminer -o http://127.0.0.1:8332 -u redstar -p mypassword --btc-address 1PJHB5ppVe6GFSevaMkwFwKMyRjGshiYe1

and i got ....."No stratum, GBT or solo support in pool 0 http://127.0.0.1:8332 unable to use"!

So...Then i tried

Code:
cgminer -o http://localhost:8332 -u redstar -p mypassword --btc-address 1PJHB5ppVe6GFSevaMkwFwKMyRjGshiYe1
and i got ....."No stratum, GBT or solo support in pool 0 http://127.0.0.1:8332 unable to use"!

Do i need to open ports on the mining rig the same as the full node machine or does cgminer take care of that?  Also, do i need to open more ports on the hub to let my bro in?

PS: i have only posted here because i have spent hours trying to sort this.
876  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP NEEDED - Solo Mining Rig Problems on: February 23, 2016, 11:47:35 PM
Did you read the README that comes with cgminer that has instructions on how to solo mine? You're missing something (hint, btc address).

Thanks Con, I did read your readme. (no need to shout Wink)
Quote "cgminer -o http://localhost:8332 -u username -p password --btc-address 15qSxP1SQcUX3o4nhkfdbgyoWEFMomJ4rZ"
Sorry for my ignorance.  I'm self taught and out my depth.  I guess the above is for .bat files.  I will give it a go.  I wanted to add it to a .conf so i have failovers (i don't know how to do that in a .bat) I want to take slush out and mine with your solo pool as my failover once it works.  Why do you only give .bat commands in your readmes?

Also I read https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=315477.0 and that thread suggests -0 http://127.0.0.1:8332 rather than -o http://localhost:8332, i dont understand (but want too, rather than just get the thing working)
Also, I want to add my S1 and S3 and i dont need .bat for those.

Also,  have a brother in Aus and he wants to point some hashpower my way.  I need to sot how i do that too.
877  Bitcoin / Mining support / HELP NEEDED - Solo Mining Rig Problems - Earn Yourself 0.03btc Reward! on: February 23, 2016, 11:22:06 PM
Hi there, i hope someone out there can help.
I am trying to solo mine with bitcoin-qt and cgminer.  I have bitcoin-qt running on one PC and cgminer on a different PC (both PCs are on the same home network)

I can mine to pools ok so i know my mining rig is working.  It's a HP mini 210 / 2core 1.6Ghz prossesor / 2gb RAM - 32bit, with no Hard drive fitted.  The OS is on a USB stick and is Windows 7 Starter.  I am running cgminer-4.9.2-windows.  I have two bifury 4gh and one U3.  A total of about ~65gh.  (I also have a S1 and an S3 that i would like to solo with too). Anyway....

My cgminer.conf looks like this:
Code:
{
"pools" : [
{
"url" : "http://127.0.0.1:8332",
"user" : "redstar",
"pass" : "XXXXXXXXX"
},
{
"url" : "stratum+tcp://eu.stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333",
"user" : "XXXXXXXXXXX",
"pass" : "12345"
},
{
"url" : "stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333",
"user" : "15z9mzGXqSY3hpprvU7Aiah3rr5Jf1j4n7",
"pass" : ""
}
],

"suggest-diff" : "42",
"failover-only" : true,
"no-submit-stale" : true,
"api-listen" : true,
"api-port" : "4028",
"api-allow" : "W:192.168.1.0/24,W:127.0.0.1",
"au3-freq" : "225.0",
"au3-volt" : "775",
"bxm-bits" : "55"
}

(XXXX) hiding my credentials.

Ok, so when i start cgminer.exe the conf file loads and i get a message "No stratum, GBT or solo support in pool 0 http://127.0.0.1:8332 unable to use"!
failover works and it mines to eu.stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 (pool 1).
So... I am guessing this end is working as it should.

Now to my full node.  This is a Dell inspiron 1.8Ghz single core prossesor / 2g RAM  / Small 30gb HHD running Windows 7 Prof / bitcoin-qt (Satoshi 0.11.2)
The Bitcoin blockchain directory is on an external 120gb HHD.

The bitcoin.conf is saved to C:\users\user\Appdata\Roaming\Bitcoin and looks like this.
Code:
daemon=1
server=1
gen=0
rpcuser=redstar
rpcpassword=XXXXXXXXX
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=8332
I start bitcoin-qt and within 15min i have 20 conections and my node (86.151.92.38) checks out ok on https://bitnodes.21.co/ so all looks good.
Port 8333 is open on my router and my firewall has TCP 8332 both incoming and outgoing ports on this PC

All i need to do is point my hashpower at it.  Where am i going wrong?Huh?
Thanks in advance
Paula

878  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Efficient USB miners on: February 10, 2016, 07:13:02 AM
The best USB miner is the compac.  But USB minerss are mainly for learning or lotto mining, you will not make ROI in most cases.

This is true but you can make your USB mining RIG run for less money if you I wise.  I use an old Ultraportable HP mini 210 with a 7inch screen.  It has a small PSU of ~30w (laptop PSUs are usually anything from 45w to 65w).  I pulled the hard drive out (so no HDD spinning around anymore which can save 10watts) and put Windows 7 starter on a 15GB USB Thumb drive.  The whole OS is less than 10GB in size.  I use this to run my stick miners and a U3 for lotto mining.  Set it up so to not shut down when you close the lid and run it shut to kill the screen (just open it now and again to see it's good).  The 30w PSU never even gets warm.

I have an old pentium 4 style ATX where the 12v runs the U3 and the 5v runs me a HUB with a couple of Bifury twin chips in it.
I get ~70gh for around less than 70watts at he wall all in (inc. mini laptop with lid shut).

Some people use linux on a USB as their OS for the same reason.  I couldn't get my head round linux even though i made me a USB drive with it on as there is a good readme file in cgminer-9.4.2-windows all about how to do it if you fancy a go.  Its called "linux-usb-cgminer.txt" worth a read.

It would be interesting to know how others have got on with it all.
879  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 149 blocks solved! on: January 24, 2016, 07:43:57 PM
-ck, you need to put your fees up to 2%.  Even at the current reward of ~25BTC for solving a block, and.... if you found a block every month while charging 1%, that would yield ~250mBTC per month. Thats approx $100 USD, $142 AUD, or £72 GBP at today's prices.

My unlimited broadband connection costs £50 per month + the cost of electric (daily service charge of £0.75p that's £22 per month) and then £0.18 per KWh on top of that.  Even at 1%, I would be out of pocket and be working for free, and that's before my time and hardware is taken into account.

You owe it to your wife and family to do the best you can for them, they should come before your buddies on the board.  Don't give it away mate.  If it doesn't pay, your time is better spent with them than as a Bitslave.

Thanks os2sam, i will have a play around, i guess speech marks make a difference.  I will maybe start a thread on the topic and see if i can get a definitive answer. I don't want to go too O/T.  It would be nice to see  members blocks being solved and posted here rather than me waffling on  Smiley
