201  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should trading be closed on weekends?! on: July 09, 2011, 04:13:50 AM
Considering the obvious that you can not transfer cash funds to your account on weekends (due to banks being closed) why not close the markets on weekends.

Why not open banks on the weekend instead?
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - AUD market is now live. on: July 09, 2011, 03:31:27 AM

Obvious troll is obvious.

It's not actually a troll (not entirely) - if TradeHill has a delegate in Australia and is violating australian banking/securities (though I don't see the securities thing being an issue), or is not charging GST when they should be (GST wasn't even around when I left Australia so I honestly have no idea) then it really doesn't matter if TradeHill are in Chile or not... someone's going to get fucked over it.

He's obviously not Aussie, otherwise he'd be asking about the bitcoin/meat pie ratio...

Maybe it's just the part of Australia that I'm from, but no one I ever met would be caught dead drinking Fosters.

There's an ad on TV at the moment for KFC, where one guy first suggests getting a 'servo pie' (American translation: Meat pie from a gas station), but it's said in a derogatory way and they end up eating KFC instead... well that ad always makes me feel like a servo pie, not KFC Smiley
204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hosting provider + wallet.dat... How to get around trust issue? on: July 09, 2011, 03:21:45 AM
Some great ideas there elggawf, too complicated for me at the moment, but a good start to get the ideas flowing.

That would of course only work for automated receiving... your version wouldn't be able to send anything.

So it would be handy for sites that sell stuff like t-shirts that don't need to pay out any change or affiliate payments.

Those affiliate payments could go out manually from home pc anyway; they wouldn't need to be instant.
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - AUD market is now live. on: July 09, 2011, 03:15:25 AM
How many Bitcoins for a Fosters?

Cheers, Mate.

You should be asking: How many Fosters for a Bitcoin? :-)

Cheers,
Adam

He's obviously not Aussie, otherwise he'd be asking about the bitcoin/meat pie ratio...
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Hosting provider + wallet.dat... How to get around trust issue? on: July 09, 2011, 03:04:29 AM
For those merchants that are keeping a wallet.dat on a hosted server, how do you get around (or not care about) the trust issue of hosting company employees getting your wallet.dat?

Is there any way to set it up so that the host can't actually get to it?

(eg. by keeping the wallet.dat on your home PC and somehow connecting your websites to it via JSON? ...in that case, the host could still see your JSON password and do a 'sendfrom')

My only step so far has been to get my bitcoin directory on their 'exclude' list for their automated backups... so at least the wallet.dat shouldn't be getting copied elsewhere. (I back it up manually to my home pc).
207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whats so important to moving a decimal? on: July 09, 2011, 02:57:40 AM
1 microBitCoin = mBTC = .0001 (to .0099)

1 mBTC = 0.001 (1/1000th)
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's add up the KNOWN lost bitcoins on: July 09, 2011, 02:12:49 AM
I'm assuming you are not including THEFT in your definition of "lost"?

Nope, stolen coins are still in circulation.

Okay, next question. I withdrew $37 BBP which I thought should equal 0.037 however I've just received the transaction and it's only 0.0037.

Isn't $1 BBP 1/1000th of a BTC?

I believe that 1/1000th is 3 decimal places, not four.  So, 1 BBP should equal 0.001 BTC.

Correct, so $37 BBP should have been 0.037 BTC.

However, the withdrawal form asked me to enter a BTC amount, so maybe it was me that accidentally typed 0.0037 instead of 0.037.

Not sure because I can't log in at the moment to check.

Not that I care about getting the extra cents, just want to help make sure your site's working.

I signed up... didn't get the email yet but I'll wait a bit more for that.

When I clicked on 50/50 I see this:

You have lost 16 to the House
$89BBP_Remaining in Balance. $5358BBP_Remaining in House.

Can you tell me what all that means? I haven't even played a game yet.

When you click that link you have a 50/50 chance of winning. Means you lost 16 of the original 100 you came in with...if you click play again or click the link again you'll have another 50/50 chance of winning, 50/50 chance of losing.

Okay, next question. I withdrew $37 BBP which I thought should equal 0.037 however I've just received the transaction and it's only 0.0037.

This is kinda cool, Wired just ran a piece on it.

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/07/bitcoin-android-app/

Am I wrong or do they have this part backwards??

When you want to transfer Bitcoins to another account, a QR code pops up on your smartphone’s screen. The other user simply scans the QR code with his or her phone, and the Bitcoins are transferred to the second phone’s account.

The phone that 'pops up' a QR code would be the receiver.
The person scanning a QR code would be the sender.

Therefore you also need an option to not share the wallet in the cloud, and allow me to back it up manually should I so choose.

This program looks awesome!

But the 'backup wallet to cloud' feature is exactly what will stop me from using it yet.

I like bitcoin kamikaze for game play, although not necessarily the most lucrative.

My favourite was btcbubble when it was popular, although it's gone now.

Check out the 'status' on this page:

http://tarr.uspto.gov/tarr?regser=serial&entry=85353491&action=Request+Status

Doesn't say anything about it being cancelled.

Can anyone link to some actual evidence that it's been dropped?

Are these 'joke' banners or are you being serious?
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone Random Trademarked "bitcoin" : Now we can't use the term? on: July 07, 2011, 11:35:01 PM
No one with a domain name aside from bitcoin.xxx should worry.  There are plenty of trademarked names used in URL's all over the place.

For example, the Gears of War 2 forum.
http://www.gearsofwar2forums.com/

Gears of War is a trademarked name, yet it is being used in a URL by a 3rd party.  This is allowed.

Ah yes of course you're right... just like http://paypalsucks.com/

The fact that you dont see [Jessy] was trying to help boggles my mind.

Agreed. It's completely baffling.
