Charlie,

Then no problem, if anyone is in London and feels so inclined they'll be in touch.

Thanks.

hmmm.... Yes but not in a scientific/academic sense.  Are you American?  A Britt commented that there was not derogatory sense to the word.

Usually using scheme in American English to mean an underhand plot or  intrigue is inferred in it use. ie  "Trendon Shavors was certain his scheme would work."

Wonder if it is a cultural thing.

Turbor,

Moving on an hopefully learning from your mistakes is certainly good advice.

However regardless if there is a recovery of funds, I do think there will be some satisfaction when this guy is caught and prosecuted.

Because some of this evidence includes information that can be legally corroborated if civil or criminal charges are brought.  However no charges have been brought, meanwhile any investigation continues as voluntary witnesses and/or defrauded creditors come forward.

2054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: November 03, 2012, 07:40:26 PM
I for one do not believe any of the FUD about TBF.   These developers have been maintain the security and integrity client free of charge, and evidently in the best interests of the community.  Mt. Gox and Bitinstant are two of the largest bitcoin businesses (that I am aware of) and are perfectly legitimate to be involved in an organization that will help lead and direct the future of bitcoin.  What they are doing is perfectly legitimate until proven otherwise.

And if you don't like it start you own Foundation or Organization.  But crying foul and spreading FUD with out any foundation just makes them look ridiculous as they are and does not do the community any good.

So if the nay-sayers wanted to start a thread entitles "my concerns about the bitcoin foundation" and intelligently and thoughtfulness laid out their arguments, it might actually spark an intelligent debate in which the bitcoin foundation may even participate and could lead to further transparency.

Otherwise they are just pooping in these threads and making a mess.

Problem is I am not a victim/creditor.  And all the evidence is heresy until the informants choose to give it directly to the proper authorities.

2056  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin = cash or commodity on: November 03, 2012, 07:19:16 PM
Yes I don't think it could possibly happen here.

However I did notice that as long as this ECB discussion has been going on in these several threads now, the usually trolls who arrival to a thread signal the down fall of any intelligent conversion have yet to arrive here.

Either they haven't found it yet, or this conversation is just too far over their heads they'd have no idea to reply.

2057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin = cash or commodity on: November 03, 2012, 07:08:50 PM
EXACTLY.

Which is way someone from this community (if not the The Bitcoin Foundation) has to publish a response to that ECB paper.
2058  Economy / Lending / Re: WTF is up with all these broke dicks requesting loans? on: November 03, 2012, 07:05:25 PM
I am not a lender either, and would not trade nor lend to anyone with out having some connection to their identity in the real world for collection purposes.

I'll say this again, I started a watch list some time ago which was my subtle way to say , these are new or existing users how may not have scammed anyone yet, but who are exhibiting suspicious behavior in my interactions with them.

So instead of calling them out immediately other user could check the watch list before executing a trade or a loan and they could be removed from the watch list if they turned out to be legitimate, or branded a scammer if that was the eventual case.

Unfortunately is did not seem to be useful so it was not maintained.

In any event one turned out to be a scammer, one disappeared after being called out and another user was taken off the list after successful trades

(this was used for currency exchange and not for lending)

I do know johnthedong hat started a defaulted creditors list some where But I'm not sure if that is maintained anymore either.

The problem with publishing any current Trendon Shavors info is that he is surely also reading these boards and probably also posting as a new user or one of his old sock puppet accounts.

I don't think it would be helpful to release this info publicly until the authorities decide what they want to do with it.

And unfortunately it is coming from anonymous sources who fear retribution from Trendon Shavors if/when he find out they are leaking information on him.  And anonymous information is not admissible not admissible matters as all it is hearsay.

Sounds like Trendon is as Smart or Smarter then we all thought.  He had his lemmings hanging on his every work in IRC during his scam.   Even after his default he caused members to remove information from these boards by threatening not to pay them unless they removed the info.

Now even after his cover is blown and his scam is revealed that is was a ponzi all along and he had no intention of repaying anyone, he is controlling individual's behavior from beyond the scam.

Very smart indeed.

I do not doubt tomatocage's intentions, however it is his methods that are of concern.  There are probably millions of new user of bitcoin  - curiosity seekers who come here on a regular basis seeking out additional info or understanding of what this is all about as the media coverage grows.

While there are plenty of scammers and their methods are pretty obvious to most members who have been around for a while, there are probably more newbees who have no idea that their requests are considered "scammy" when they are just exploring.

There are plenty of idiots out  there who will (invest) and/or loan out their hard earned money to any anonymous person who asks.  Then there are legitimate lenders who will vet these requests based on there own and the borrowers risk profile.

To randomly call out anyone seeking a loan with a low post count is neither productive/nor helpful and in fact is destructive to the growth of our community.

Wouldn't it be better to possibly explain to these newbees how the system works rather then just attack them after their first or second post.

I see this frequently on the currency exchange board.  I have traded numerous time with newbess and those that pass my verification requests have been legitimate 99.9 % of the time.

And frankly, early on I' was scammed more my Senior and Hero members because I mistakenly trusted that classification as someone  would could be trusted.
