2061  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the possibility that US will join the war between Russia and Ukraine? on: February 25, 2022, 07:37:47 PM
I think US made it clear that they won't be directly involved in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

They won't get involved until some US troops start dying. Then they'll have to make a decision to either withdraw completely, or move more troops into Europe.
IMO Biden doesn't want to get involved because he wants Russia to do the same in case of a US-China conflict. I hope you remember when there were US carriers going towards China last year and we all know that China wants to take over Taiwan and they showed it once again by saying that Russian move into Ukraine was not an attack. They want to do the same with Taiwan in the near future and this could trigger a move from the US. Biden talked with Putin before the attack on Ukraine and Putin begun to be even more aggressive towards Zelensky after talking with Biden, which suggests they struck some kind of deal.
2062  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: February 25, 2022, 07:22:49 PM
I told you so.
You were right about where Russia's military was going to attack from. We will see if Putin stops with Ukraine or if he continues west.
West is going to be hard because Poland is in the EU and NATO and houses a lot of US troops and weapons. Killing US troops on Polish soil would basically mean a war with the USA which Russia cannot win. Also, attacking the EU would mean attacking neighboring countries with pretty significant striking power like Sweden (good air force), UK (nuclear submarines), and so on. Based on what Putin is doing right now which is murdering civilians for no reason, I can't definitely say he won't try it, but it would be a suicidal move.
The only possible move would be to go North to the Baltic States, but I doubt he'd be able to wage war there and hold Ukraine at the same time.
2063  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The West don't truly understand Russia's ideology on: February 24, 2022, 11:37:14 PM
Putin is like a wolf that attacks when he sees a weakness. Ukraine was submissive all the way and so was the EU. First Ukraine gave away its nuclear weapons, then got stuck between Russia and the EU, afraid to sever relations with East and West, even when Putin was cutting gas supply to Ukraine and threatening them.
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/gazprom-holds-back-exports-via-ukraine-pressing-case-nord-stream-2-analysts-2021-07-02/

I still feel like Putin is not completely sane. He's an egoist and a narcissist. He's getting old and it feels like he wants to have statues of himself all around Russia. He's forgetting one thing though. There were statues of Stalin all throughout the Soviet Union at one time and then people were taking them down and changing names of streets and squares so that there's no Stalin anywhere. Same thing with Hitler. How many people in Germany and Austria name their sons Adolf these days?
There's a really thin line between being a loved and hated leader. Between being remembered as a liberator and a murderer.

Also, the West may look weak, but it also was like that at the beginning of WW2. Remember how shocked the world was by the invasion of Poland and later by how little time it took before France fell.
I also hope that people in Russia will realize at some point that Putin taking over a foreign country will not directly turn into them having more money or better jobs. It will turn into them getting a letter that their husband, brother, or son died in battle, hearing the news that somebody detonated a car full of explosives next to their child's school, and so on. If there's any profits from this war it will go to Putin's friends and the great victory will be paid for with the blood of ordinary people who will lose either way.
2064  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Nazi regime of Russia started a war against Ukraine! on: February 24, 2022, 11:02:17 PM
Today, February 24, 2022, at 5 am, a massive invasion of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine began. The cities of Dnipro, Odessa, Kharkiv, have already come under shelling.
Aw fuck....I haven't been watching the news at all, and it's kind of sad that I hear about major events like this on bitcointalk, but so it goes.

I was wondering why the precious metals markets were moving higher and stocks and crypto both took a nosedive today.  I was too lazy to check what was going on in the world, but I'm going to check out whatever news site I can find when I finish writing this post.  This whole conflict between Russia and Ukraine is madness--since global politics is under my radar I don't even know where this all stems from, but my gut is telling me very loudly that an invasion didn't have to happen.

Well, if anyone was questioning how bitcoin would react to a major global event, just take a look at preev to get the price.  Altcoins have plummeted even worse than bitcoin did, so it looks like everyone is selling.  And damn, if I had fiat to burn I'd be buying like crazy.

Bitcoin actually didn't do too bad even if we count the lowest levels. We went down less than 2k USD from yesterday's lows. If you compare that to other major news:
3,5k down on US lockdown news in 2020
10k down on news of China banning mining last year.

I'm also buying got a measly 2k left in fiat in case it goes lower than 30k. For me the math is simple. Even if Russia and Ukraine disappear from the face of the Earth, Bitcoin will remain valuable for the rest. This is actually an opportunity to buy, but people in the EU are too busy wondering if they should buy fuel for their car today or tomorrow and withdrawing fiat from ATMs.

Putin is a mad man who wants to be remembered as the creator of a new Soviet Union, under a different name. Nobody but his puppet state of Belarus wanted to join so it hit his little man's ego. You are not allowed to criticize the great Putin or he'll react with full force of the Russian army. He's a bully and a murderer.

2066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetically keeping your bitcoin when you die? on: February 22, 2022, 11:36:25 PM
That's why I intend to leave a letter for my children and grandchildren and keep it until I can wake up later. So they can give me the letter and help me remember it again. Maybe I can't remember it for a while but I will be able to remember it again with the help of my children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren later.

What will you write in this letter? Some hints to remind yourself the password for your wallet? What will happen if your memory gets wiped 100% and there's nothing to remind yourself of left in there? You'd have to either write down the wallet passphrase or mnemonic phrases but this will allow your children to get the money without waking you. You see, the problem is when you're dead you don't need money and everything is out of your hands. They can wake you up or not, they can steal your coins or not, don't worry about the things you'll never be able to control.

If you leave control of the money to an AI you risk it being hacked. If you live it to a friend, you risk him taking it all without having to wake you up later. If you hide it you risk not remembering where it was, and so on.
2067  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Putin Threatening or Serious on: February 22, 2022, 05:50:09 PM
I also thought he wouldn't dare to attack, but what he's doing is and isn't an attack at the same time. He doesn't want it to be an invasion, he wants it to be a game.
1. Puts soldiers on the borderline
2. Distracts the West by sending fake migrants to Belarus so they'd attack the border with Poland and attract the media
3. Starts peace talks with the West claiming he just wants to liberate people who want to be a part of Russia
4. Breaks the peace talks saying that for him to discuss anything Ukraine would have to return all US made weapons (impossible to do and he knows it)
5. Makes a provocation by detonating some artillery shells in Donetsk
6. Evacuates people from attacked area claiming there's a place for them in Russia, then abandons them. The evacuated citizens are forced to go back to Ukraine or face cold and starvation.
7. Signs a decree that Donetsk and Luhansk are now autonomies recognized by Russia
8. Moves in "peacekeeping forces" to the area claiming he only wants to stabilize the territory so no other fights take place
9. Claims Rissia doesn't want to annex the area (but if an autonomous region decides it wants to be a part of Russia he won't oppose)

Remember people, next time the Red Army Russian Army moves into your country, it's to keep the peace and help you. Pretty much like they helped Poland and Finland in 1939 Wink

I hope you will buy more in this dip as well. I haven't seen Bitcoin this oversold since the 2020 covid crash. It's actually funny that markets are reacting with such fear to Putin's provocation. It barely has anything to do with decentralization and cryptocurrencies. If anything happens they are going to become more important to people fleeing the conflict zones and those who will try to get their unstable currencies into something safer that can't be stolen by soldiers or the police. I'd say the government stealing from protesters in Canada and threatening to take their children and pets if they don't comply is insane and if it doesn't make people seek decentralization, nothing will.

2071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really censorship-resistent if they can't reach Canadian truckers on: February 22, 2022, 03:53:41 PM
The article on Coindesk, provided by stompix, says the money was raised in cryptos, but that the the Deputy Prime Minister said banks CAN freeze bank accounts tied to truckers. First, bank accounts and crypto wallets are two different things, so I suppose nobody's seizing the wallets themselves. Second, there's no rule that banks MUST freeze bank accounts, they are simply allowed to do that if they see it fit. And theor police ordered regulated firms to cease facilitating transactions from those wallets. So, based on all this, it seems that the wallets are still in the hands of the protestors (if the wallets are non-custodial), and the problem is with making big names accept payment from these wallets or with converting this money into fiat through regulated exchanges. It limits the options, but I don't think it shows the wallets being censored.

They even contacted one of the wallet providers to share the data they have on the donators and stop funds and they wrote back that they only provide software allowing users to access money on the blockchain, they don't freeze anything and don't have access to any funds Cheesy One would think they'd put someone tech savvy in charge of the investigation. Someone who knows that a wallet provider cannot access private keys.
You're correct about banks in Canada and anywhere else. If these people really want to get their money they can arrange a cash exchange. They can also send coins to a bank in another country and access it from there. The coins donated to truckers were obtained legally and donated legally. In any other country they'd be able to have access, so other countries are not obliged to freeze these funds like they would with money from a hack or a ponzi scheme.
2072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Environmental Menace on: February 22, 2022, 03:15:43 PM
ASICs can’t be easily repurposed for general computing. Redundant units create around 11,500 tonnes of hazardous electronic waste each year, much of which is dumped on cities in the global south.

Which is like a grain of sand in a sandbox.
I'm not even going to argue if this is a right number, but for people who think 11k tonnes a year is a lot:
China, the largest producer of electronic waste in the world creates 10 million tonnes every year, the US 7 million.
Worldwide more than 50 million tonnes of electronic waste is produced every year.

You can find these statistics online with ease on multiple sites.

I'd rather if an average household threw out 10kg of electronic trash in the form of Bitcoin miners and support unconfiscatable, censorship-resistant money, than 50kg because they got bored by their 50" TV and need a 60".
2073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetically keeping your bitcoin when you die? on: February 22, 2022, 02:44:49 PM
Freeze ourselves? Hm, your imagination is too high.
That's a hypothetical question. We can assume that this will be possible in the next 100 years. Don't forget that bringing someone back to life by use of electric shock was unknown in the 19th century and now defib units are very common. Every ER unit has one.

But if that is opportunity comes to me, I think I will hide my btc, including my private keys that only I knows the place and I will not let other people know about that.

This was discussed before. You may not remember anything when you wake up and leaving clues may lead to people finding your coins before you're brought back to life.

When you die all you have goes out of your control. Material things don't matter anymore especially if you don't know how long it will take before someone decides to wake you up. Maybe it will be in 300 years when there's no bitcoin anymore.
2074  Economy / Speculation / Re: How come BTC is not at least $75,000 yet? on: February 22, 2022, 12:46:30 AM
IMO it's undervalued at the moment. The fair value of Bitcoin based on log curves is somewhere around 40k USD. This doesn't mean we can't go lower, we can and we will because bitcoin often goes above and below the fair value but keep in mind that in 2018 that fair value was around 5k USD, so there was not much room to the downside. Like at this point we can go lower but 30k would be a bargain at this point and traders know it. At the same time 50k is just around the corner. Every time Bitcoin went below the fair value it returned above it in the next 6 months.
2075  Economy / Economics / Re: Proposed Cryptocurrency ban in Russia on: February 22, 2022, 12:34:25 AM
They won't ban it. There are two opposing opinions one of the bankers who are afraid of bitcoin and one of officials who want to regulate and tax it. It comes down to the fact that central bankers don't make the laws, they can only try to persuade politicians and have the money to do it, but they don't decide anything. Bankers are stupid because regulating bitcoin will not stop people from using the national currency. People will hold bitcoin as a reserve and still continue to spend fiat money like they did last year and the year before. Regulating brings only benefits while banning it will not stop people from holding it only make it impossible to run a legal business and pay taxes.
2076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lies and critics about bitcoins on: February 21, 2022, 12:52:56 AM
We should not condemned articles even though the thread or the article is stupid and foolish because such articles pass information to someone.

According to T.S. Eliot. A poet wrote a poem title "Waste Land".

Readers were condemning this poem until the experts explain the poem to the understanding level of the average readers then they came to understand the poem. Anything that is not progressive is a waste...

So before you condemned articles find out why, the of the person writing the article.

So according to you even a misleading article can be good because it passes information to someone. If You ask me for directions to the nearest restaurant and I lead you the wrong way, will it be all right? I've passed some information to you, so that must count as something, right? On the other hand if it's bitcoin that is misunderstood not the article, the author should've done some more research. When I lack knowledge of the subject I tend to ask questions instead of giving statements.
2077  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin in Rocket 🚀 mood. on: February 19, 2022, 10:53:14 AM
The crypto market has been in bullish momentum at the moment. The price of bitcoin has surged again since the last few days, it is seen that bitcoin price movements are experiencing a bullish trend due to a strong price increase of up to 10%. it is likely that the bitcoin price is ready to continue its rise even higher to set a high price level in the next few weeks.

I would agree if you put this comment like 3 days ago. But if you look at the price, bitcoin goes down in the last 24 hours by 6% or higher. So it's better to check the price first before you put down your comment here. So there is no rocket mood this week, we have been affected by the news recently, Russia vs Ukraine war. But I do believed that this is going to be short term, as we could bounce back again and try to test $45k late next week.

Which is a huge overreaction. First of all, there's no war at this point, just tension on the border, yet the market drops 10%. Another thing is that the world is huge and these two countries aren't 10% of world's GDP. Russia itself is estimated to have a 3% share, but if it were to invade Ukraine, you'd probably get a crash on the global markets. If an invasion crash happens it's going to be a n enormous opportunity to invest. Remember that bitcoin is a global decentralized currency. Do you think that people in Africa or India care if Russia has a land access to Crimea or not? They'll still use their bitcoins regardless of the outcome.
2078  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price stay above $40000? on: February 18, 2022, 11:18:28 PM
We are now below $40k, but it seems, this is just another challenge for the holders as we can easily go up again to $40k easy. If we really look into hourly or daily movement, we will be stressed or get paranoid from it. If you are here for long-term, don't get too attached in small movements because you would go crazy and may sell off at a loss. If there are positive things happenings around bitcoin, then, there's still hope to increase its value in the future.

Depends on where you look. One minute we are below, the next one we are above. 40k is not a solid level that if you break to 39900 it somehow becomes invalid and the price will go to 37k or something. First of all a wick is not a break. Price can wick on hourly and still not break the level. You could see it happen when we went above 45k and people were already celebrating that the resistance was broken. Not so fast boys, you need a daily close above the level for it to be broken, and then you need to come back to it to retest it as support. Right now we're retesting 40k and if it holds it's going to be a strong bullish sign.
2079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How I convinced a Stock Trader to Invest in Bitcoin on: February 18, 2022, 10:22:15 PM
After listening to some opportunities about the crypto market, he started to show interest. But one question he asked that why anyone invest in something that does not have an actual existence?

He must be an old traditionalist because people are investing in things that don't exist every day.

Most of the gold you invest in doesn't exist or exists only on paper.
People buy expensive domains for millions of USD, but they're only numbers on a server.
People put money in companies that never even made anything like Theranos and Nicola. You can say those two are scams, but what makes you think any startup isn't? You wire money and hope to see results. Sometimes there are some, sometimes not. Bitcoin has been showing results for the last 11 years, so I'm in.

The Ferrari's nose is quite innovative.

Not only so far is it the only one with a unique shape but it should (not confirmed yet) be the only one detachable in 2 spots!

This seems a small thing but with the salary cap since you will change a smaller part when/if it will be damaged you will end up saving a lot of money.

Yeah the new 75 looks kind of like a beak of a bird. A stork maybe?  Roll Eyes
I guess everybody saw those leaked photos right after the team saidf they aren't going to reveal them because they don't want to give other teams a heads up Cheesy
Those front wings look delicate and expensive. I don't feel like you can save a lot of money when a car is balanced so good and has so much carbon fiber in it.
Also, they now have to run bigger 18" wheels so that's going to make every car even more expensive to run and maintain.
