1181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which kind of situation will force you to sell? on: December 21, 2022, 09:42:17 PM
There are two reasons/situations in which I'd sell (at least some, not necessarily all):

A positive one:
Bitcoin reaches my price targets. The first one is 100k, but knowing how round numbers affect people I might sell some at 90k.

A negative one:
I run out of fat money with no way to make more, for instance if I went blind and I work a lot with computers, so that would complicate things.
Possibly if I needed expensive treatment for me or my closest family and there was no other way to raise money...

What will never force me to sell? Manipulation, FUD, a crash caused by exchanges and scammers.
For years I've had this "go big or go home" attitude towards bitcoin.
1182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino bonus is it worth it? on: December 21, 2022, 09:06:25 PM
Usually not. If you play at a casino and get a bonus it's great, maybe it's going to give you a free roll or additional money on your account. Some casinos from time to time offer a double deposit bonus which is incredible if you plan to play there a lot because you're going to do those 50 or so wagers anyway with your own money and deposit bonus can sometimes keep you in the game when you otherwise would have to call it a day.

That said, don't register and deposit money into casinos you wouldn't have chosen if not for the bonus. Don't play only with bonuses in mind because they're meant to look juicier than they really are.
1183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are you here? on: December 21, 2022, 08:46:30 PM
When I first joined this forum it was to learn about wallets and exchanges. I wanted to buy bitcoin and hold it as a store of value and inflation hedge and I knew that we were in a bear market, so the time was right. It have me exactly what I wanted. I've learned so much here about the importance of self-custody and hodling. Thanks to this community I managed to avoid all exchange collapses and cloud mining scams and I still have coins that I bought back in 2015 and 2016.

My message to all the newbies who think they're too late for the party: people who were joining in 2013 thought the same! Then came 2014 and people thought it was all over and every single year people register here and abandon their accounts thinking they came too late.
1184  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sam Bankman-Fried Arrested In The Bahamas, Set For 'Prompt' Extradition After US on: December 20, 2022, 10:38:48 PM
SBF wanted to fight the extradition but changed his mind after a couple days in a rat infested prison. It appears he now wants to go to the US because he wants to be on a vegan diet and doesn't want to be chewed on by rats at night.
AFAIK he's facing over 100 years in prison if found guilty of all the charges. Best case scenario for him is a sentence similar to that of Elizabeth Holmes, which means he'll be in his 40s when he comes out. I doubt his donations will get him out of this. There's no gain in helping him avoid prison.
1185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why there are no cool games on: December 20, 2022, 10:09:11 PM
One of the challenges that confront the fast-growing gaming I industry is the lack of p2p virtual games but am sure there development is underway, with some casinos already offering such player-to-player games on the casinos but mostly in unpopular games. But games like mortals combats are old popular games that players will love to see them back on the casinos with advanced features and outlooks that will give combatants a nice experience playing those old games again, I believe the web3 virtual gaming industry is growing fast and soon we will have web3 casino offering such games for their client to enjoy and compete against each other.

The problem that all these developers face is the same and that's cheating. In a game of chance the casino "rolls" and can prove that the number was randomly chosen. You cannot cheat. The only way to cheat is if you're able to somehow hack the API and see what the house has rolled before rolling yourself. I remember that this used to be possible in some early casinos years ago especially when playing blackjack. The casino would roll and you'd be able to see what it has and could choose to fold early if it had a high number.

With PVP games you're not playing against the house but someone else and the casino has no way to verify if you both play fair. You could be using bots, scripts, macros, just like people who play CS.
When a player gets caught cheating in CS it results in a ban, but it doesn't happen in the first round. Usually a player is able to play for a while before being caught.
Imagine that you'd cheat in a casino and withdraw after each game. After playing 3 games they'd ban you, but the money from your previous wins would already be lost. People would think it's worth getting banned if they can get some free money out of it.
1186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just can't get my eyes off my wallet. on: December 20, 2022, 09:56:51 PM
The way I see it OP has a couple choices here because the situation isn't very healthy.
He either can abandon or decrease his investment to feel more relaxed, or he can try to distance himself from the investment by going somewhere peaceful where there's no Internet.
If I felt that the investment is draining my vital forces and making me feel down every time there's a price decrease I'd get rid of it.
1187  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Speculated] Barry Silbert dump on: December 18, 2022, 09:48:22 PM
But why sell on a Friday when liquidity is very low.

The reason is probably this:

This is how Nasdaq looked in the last 2 days before the Weekend and cryptocurrencies seemed to have reacted accordingly.
I feel like there's a lot of FUD in the media like they're trying to scare us with BNB having no backing, Binance being insolvent, Barry Silbert selling... It's all a scare tactic.
1188  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Deflationary Investment the Most Profitable Strategy for Our Era of Crisis on: December 18, 2022, 09:31:07 PM
Let's discuss guns. Do you mean investing in companies that produce them, like S&W, Glock, or buying them and having warehouse full of guns saved up for bad times?
In many countries you can't get a lot of guns without a special collectors license. Such license costs a lot and has to be renewed. It's basically a tax on people who have enough money to collect guns.

from reading hydrogens endless copy/paste articles. i believe he is one of them "doomsday" preppers.

even though water and food are not deflationary. he is of the mindset of post armageddon scenario in his evaluations of what an asset/deflation item is to him

Is it a bad thing to be a prepper?
It's common thing to laugh at these people until something bad really happens and suddenly you wish you'd listened to them. I bet some people in Ukraine wish they had the time to do some prepping in 2021.
You obviously can take it too far, like those people who build nuclear shelters in their back yards and buy industrial diesel generators to power up their homes. In reality chances of you getting into such bunker during a nuclear attack are slim and a diesel generator consumes so much fuel that you're going to run out in a week, maybe two, and then what? Wars can take months or years.

1189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: December 18, 2022, 09:16:35 PM
Messi and Mbappe shone in this match, even though in the end it was Messi who won the title, but we cannot forget to appreciate Mbappe who played very well during this World Cup. Messi won his first title and this was a very valuable trophy before he decided to retire later. In total there were 7 goals scored by Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, a very great battle.
Congratulations to Argentina for completing the World Cup perfectly.

Mbappe basically carried the French team. I dare to say they wouldn't be able to even get to overtime without him, not to mention penalties. It wouid've ended in 90 minutes and Argentina would've been the champions with ease. Nobody else in French team would be able to get the team to 3 goals. Best case scenario for France Argentina would win in normal time 3-1.

That said it was a very emotional match. Now I read that France blames the referee for their loss. They're sore losers. The referee gave them 2 penalty kicks after fouls and only one to Argentina so he actually helped them more than he did the other side and they still couldn't win. Congratulations to Argentina! Sad Macron goes home.
1190  Economy / Economics / Re: Bodyguards and security service Will be booming soon for sure on: December 16, 2022, 08:07:23 PM
OP is full of shit again making bold statements with nothing to back them. Why would binance be a scam? Binance was big before FTX and helped to finance FTX which happened to be a mistake, but Sam fooled more people than CZ. FTX was a scam but Binance is still here and so are other exchanges like Coinbase, Bitstamp and others.

What are you trying to say OP? That all exchanges are scams? If it is so, why do many of them operate for more than 5 years without the need for fractional reserve banking?
Exchanges and businesses that go fractional are sooner or later going to make a mistake and die because unlike in traditional banking nobody is going to come and bail them out.
If CZ is being honest and Binance isn't going this way, it won't collapse.

It's really easy to run an exchange and there's only 3 things that I can think of that can lead to a collapse.
1. Hack (Mt.Gox)
2. Fractional reserve (FTX)
3. Scam (Btc-e)
1191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is that guy still rummaging the dump? on: December 16, 2022, 07:29:41 PM
It looks like this is him https://twitter.com/howelzy

I remember reading about him in 2016 and at the time he was already looking for the hard drive. Imagine if he were to take a loan back then and start buying BTC for $300, or sold his car and whatever unwanted stuff he had and converted all that into bitcoin. At the time it was pretty easy to get 100 BTC which would be enough to live happily ever after and forget about that buried treasure.

I hope he finds it though. The city should strike a deal with him that he does some recycling or segregates whatever he digs through. This would be a win - win scenario.
1192  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Post Your Favorite Trump Memes Here on: December 16, 2022, 06:42:49 PM
First there was no climate change no reason to worry about emissions and the only real currency was the dollar. Good old days when he called cryptocurrencies dangerous.

Now that he's launching NFTs he wants you to pay with ether because bitcoin is bad for the environment. (He literally called Ether chain carbon-neutral).
To buy his NFTs you need to install a crypto wallet! For his sake let's all hope the dollar doesn't collapse from all this dangerous actions.
1193  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Playbetr.com steals even the deposit. on: December 16, 2022, 06:21:04 PM
Firstly, I find it hard to believe that Russians are so oblivious to why they've been banned from most sites in 2022. If I were a Russian citizen I'd feel like I have 2 choices.
1. Use VPN and never admit that I'm Russian, play dumb if they catch me, hope that they'll let me off with a warning.
2. Not use any financial service that blocks Russian citizens.

If the casino made it clear that Russians are banned and the use of VPN is also not allowed and you broke both these rules, you can't blame them.

If I were the owner of the casino I'd resolve this but counting up all your deposits, subtract withdrawals and again subtract the remaining number from your current account balance. Therefore, the casino should send you back your deposits and keep all your wins, because you had no right to play in the first place. This is my opinion, you shouldn't be surprised if they take everything from you.
1194  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler? on: December 15, 2022, 06:24:18 PM
Don't worry OP, there's so many things you can do on your computer that it's improbable her son ends up gambling. More likely he's playing games all day or chatting with people. I used to game a lot in my 20s and never even thought of gambling at that time, even though me and my friends could spend 8 hours straight playing CS and dota. Gambling isn't the worst thing he could be doing online, so if she wants to control him, she's going to fail one way or another.

To answer the question, I started gambling once I was getting free money from signature campaigns. I haven't thought of it earlier but it's easy to spend money when you have plenty.
1195  Economy / Gambling / Re: Kryptosino Avoid!!! on: December 15, 2022, 05:35:12 PM
I've never seen this site. We'll of course take the warning into consideration, but I don't feel like this casino poses a big threat to the community with so many reputable ones advertising on this forum and Kryptosino not being one of them. People here have so many good sites to choose that it would be a miracle if a frequent bitcointalk user went to play there.

Keep us informed if you find anything to support the claim about the investigation.
1196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SBF, arrested! on: December 15, 2022, 04:33:48 PM
According to O'Leary Binance is responsible for FTX collapse and Sam was doing good. Sam wasn't stealing money, Sam wasn't in debt. They were trying to make deals and get permits but Binance was working against them all the time to undermine their efforts and without CZ dumping FTT there wouldn't be any bankruptcy. He also thinks that Binance should be regulated in the US because it's running wild without any supervision.

Poor Sam, he was a good guy after all. All those properties he bought for himself and his parents, all the donations, 15m given to Kevin for his support, 1B USD given as a loan to his friend... Such a noble man and such a great CEO!
1197  Economy / Speculation / Re: ELON sold his TSLA stock for $3.5billion. Will he re-buy BTC soon? on: December 15, 2022, 04:15:28 PM
If the recession is really coming he's going to need some money to keep the factories running.
Maybe he's expecting his car sales to go down? Maybe he wants to invest more in his social media empire because I heard many people are leaving twitter because they don't want to work under Musk.
Musk was supposed to start a green bitcoin mining business but since BTC went into bear market we don't hear much about this idea anymore.

As for his dogecoin investment, I couldn't care less.
1198  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sam Bankman-Fried Arrested In The Bahamas, Set For 'Prompt' Extradition After US on: December 14, 2022, 09:58:47 PM
Imagine if the guy gets 10 years. It's going to be hard going from eating shrimps, being interviewed as the most generous CEO in the world and fucking your roommates into a reality where you eat "mack" and ramen noodles, and being interviewed by a warden. Well, at least he'll still be able to fuck his roomcellmates.
If he gets lucky he won't need any reconstructive surgery when he gets out and has a a small fortune in FTT tokens stashed somewhere. Oh, wait...
1199  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: December 14, 2022, 09:42:00 PM
I'm sure you've watched some of the hearings, so I'll share my thoughts because a lot of new and interesting things were said.
One interesting part is how dumb Sam and his friends really were. They weren't managing books for the company, had no board, most communication was done on slack, they had no control over money, they were giving loans to one another and to get money for something you just had to ask for it on chat... I don't get how a child of a pair of lawyers can be so oblivious to laws and regulations. On one hand he was trying to cover his tracks by offering Bahamian authorities to allow their citizens to withdraw their money if they'd take over the case, on the other he had no documentation that would cover his own ass from the prosecutors, like documents with signatures of all the FTX debtors. Now he can't even prove who in his company had access to what and who knew about what because what position you had was based on what role you got assigned by SBF via chat.

Another interesting part is that FTX was estimated to be missing 10B USD. It was said during the hearing that the liquidators had found and secured 1B and are looking for more because there are wallets on exchanges that they haven't checked yet but they know FTX had money there. They also suspect there are wallets they don't know about, probably implying that people behind FTX have hidden crypto.

1200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tipping during live slot, or casino games. on: December 14, 2022, 09:10:15 PM
Though tipping is being done voluntarily and cultural, I usually do it when I get lucky and have good winnings. I believe that we're not forced to tip them but we can do it out of love. I once tipped a machine attendant before and he was really happy and wasn't able to hide his emotions knowing that his son is sick and he could use the tipped money for his medication. Sometimes, our simple act of kindness could mean a lot to others.

I have a similar opinion. I sometimes tip when I win, but it's not a rule that I follow or anything.
Tipping should always be a personal choice, not forced like it is sometimes in the US where a tip is added to your bill whether you like it or not.

I don't tip in online games, even with a live dealer. I don't really feel a connection with other people through an app. I come from a culture where 20 years ago most people did not hear about tipping, so I try to do it but I don't do it very often.
