This website would have some worth if it weren't overrun with scam artists trying to charge 50% markups on coins they sell. Unfortunately *everyone* i have sent there to buy coins has been met with absurd prices. If I owned that site, I would require everyone to sell BTC for market prices, or close to it. That is, if the site owner wants his site to actually stay alive. Get your math straight. At the current rate of $1200/BTC, how many transactions on there do you see that are $1800/BTC? Some are slightly marked up, some are BELOW mtgox price. Do you think exchanges are free too? There is a fee to wire money in, a fee to trade the coin, and a fee with withdraw. Not only are there fees, verification and deposit/withdraws takes weeks if not months. The localbitcoin website is free if you don't use escrow, and only 1% to one person with the escrow service. Almost every transaction on localbitcoins.com is legit because there automatic escrow. Just don't use the risky forms of payment like paypal. You want to see scam artist? Look at BTC-e and coinbase.

When I open the program, it instantly crashes after a few seconds and I get the "guiminer.exe has stopped working" window. Any idea why?
This is on a fresh install of win7 64bit, and I've tried many driver and APP SDK revisions. The video card is a HD 5870 that's confirmed to work on another machine. Any help is much appreciated.

How "high" are we talking about? Just do it a little bit a time. That gets around the withdraw limits, and also you'll get the best price because it won't drop the BTC value too much on exchanges.

It's extremely stupid to sell BTC on ebay! There are 3x the risk of being victim to the reversal scam. First, they can claim they never received anything. Posting a wallet address to the ebay transaction is a good idea, but when it comes down to it, I don't think it will help much. Do you think the monkeys in ebay's resolution center will bother learning the logistics of bitcoin and how the blockchain works? That's outside of their obligations. If they don't see a tracking number for shipping, you won't be protected. If the scammer doesn't win the dispute on ebay, he can try again on paypal. Selling BTC or other digital currency is actually against paypal's terms of service. There are just too many stories of paypal reversal scams when selling BTC. If paypal is not in the scammer's favor, they can still file a chargeback if they linked their credit card to paypal. Credit cards almost always side with the customer (the scammer in this case). NEVER consider selling BTC on ebay. That's asking to lose your BTC. Just pay the premium doing it on large exchanges, or do it through localbitcoins.com if you want low fees.

If I want to deposit money into Bitstamp to start trading, what is the total fee if I'm trying to deposit USD? They state that it's 0.1% or $15 (whichever is higher), but I also have to include the wire transfer fee from my bank, right? For example:
If I want to deposit $1000, it will cost $15 on their side and $40 wire fee on my side, so total roughly $55 fees to get that $1000 credited?

So many of these threads recently. It's also somewhat dependent on which country you're from. Just a very quick summary of the top exchanges: mtgox is the largest, easy to get bitcoins in, but it's not possible to withdraw money out once you've sold your BTC if you're in the US. Other countries should be ok, but you should check first. Although, they have strict verification process that could take a while after you upload documents of proof. Do NOT use BTC-e, once you deposit money into your account, they will indefinitely hold it and not credit your account. A lot of people are having problems taking money out as well. Bitstamp is reliable for the most part, but you need government ID and proof of residency verification before you can start using them, which could take a few weeks to verify. There's also localbitcoins.com that seems the most reliable and the quickest to get BTC or money. The most popular payment method from localbitcoins is in-person cash transaction, or bank deposit directly to the seller. There is automatic escrow built it if you don't feel safe.

actually as of now, I think they just took off the option of bank wire. You'll have to find some other way to get money in there, which still could take months of having funds locked up. Just don't chance anything and avoid all together until they clean up their act.

Recently, I've been using localbitcoins.com a lot ever since I've tried it for the first time. Even though it's "local" bitcoins, you can still do exchanges online from many payment methods, or schedule to meet up someone local in person. Right now, avoid BTC-e at all cost. They are currently doing a mass scam at the moment. You can't get money into the exchange, but can still do trades on there.

I just got this email. Here it is in case anyone is not subscribed: Customer Announcement Dear MtGox Customers, Thank you for your patience during an incredible year for Bitcoin and MtGox. We’ve not been able to communicate as we may have wanted, but we’ve been working tirelessly in the background and we’re looking forward to even more progress in the coming weeks, which we’ll be announcing soon. We have four developments that we are proud to announce today: - Introduction of the MtGox OTP Card
- Increased limit for SEPA withdrawals from Poland
- A modified trading interface
- Trade with no fees from Bitcoin Black Friday through Cyber Monday
1) Introducing the MtGox OTP (One-Time Password) Card:With Bitcoin prices at record highs you can never be too careful with maintaining account security. Malicious parties can compromise your login information if you aren’t careful, but by using a one-time password (OTP) you can prevent anyone from being able to use that information to access your account. To have secure OTP on all devices, we have now released the MtGox OTP Card, a physical one-time password solution that can be used for your MtGox account, and is shipping immediately. Used on its own, or combined with other solutions such as the MtGox Yubikey, you can rest assured that MtGox provides you with the most secure account protection in the Bitcoin world. To find out more, click here: https://www.mtgox.com/help/otp_card2) Increased SEPA withdrawal limitsYou’ve been asking for it, and now we’ve managed to negotiate with our bank in Poland to better facilitate SEPA withdrawals. In fact, they’ve doubled our limit. This is great news, and we’re trying to get more all the time to increase the speed of withdrawals. 3) Modified trading interface releasedWhile not exactly a site overhaul, we’ve changed the MtGox experience by making the trading interface cleaner and easier to use. This includes color-coding based on trading activity, a new confirmation step before trade finalization, and a display highlighting applicable fees for the trade so you know exactly how much you’re spending per transaction. 4) Bitcoin Black Friday through Cyber Monday – Trade with Zero Fees!To celebrate Bitcoin Black Friday and encourage adoption of Bitcoin by merchants and consumers, MtGox is cutting trading fees to 0% for four full days starting Friday morning through midnight on Cyber Monday. Since your trading is free, get out there and support merchants that accept Bitcoin! Additional Points: To increase the speed of Bitcoin transactions, we will now require all Bitcoin transfers to pay the standard 0.001 BTC network fee. The fee will be charged separately from your balance. We’ve recently released the launch version of bitcoins.com, an information site for all things Bitcoin. The site is not centered on MtGox specifically and we've tried to keep it as neutral as possible in order to promote Bitcoin. Please visit and share with anyone who needs an introduction to the economic future we’re building together. Thank you again for your support. Best regards, The MtGox Team

Dam, this could be one of the biggest scam in bitcoin history, given the amount of money and BTC that btc-e has right now.
It seems all the trouble is getting money into btc-e to do exchanges. But has anyone had trouble withdrawing bitcoins out once you've already made the exchange?

The gold/silver forums has a fair amount of bichin too. Quite a bit of butt hurt people all around.

trading out of Hong Kong but with local presences in Australia, New Zealand, Bali, Israel, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Bolivia and most of the EU So what does "presences in.." mean? Local banks and not people? And why not just buy your 50BTC on the existing exchanges?

This feabag guy can just crawl back to his cave now. Nothing more for him to say.
The boat was missed when he said BTC was still $200, now it's nearly $1k...
