I believe that text generated through AI isn't a direct form of plagiarism
Why?
plagiarism, n.
The action or practice of taking someone else's work, idea, etc., and passing it off as one's own; literary theft.
Someone created a chat bot, that means anything the chat bot spits out is created by someone. The spammer that posts it on Bitcointalk passes it off as their own, which makes it plagiarism by definition.

Even worse: it's the laziest form of plagiarism, while it's difficult to detect. If it doesn't get punished by bans, people will stop reporting it and this entire forum will be lost. There's no limit to the amount of spam a bot can create.
2142  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ratimov sold his account on: December 12, 2023, 11:49:12 AM
Some members just wait for an opportunity to paint others feedback page.
That reminds me of what Ratimov did Wink
2143  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: December 12, 2023, 11:44:47 AM
Without any concrete evidence you can not leave a negative feedback to an account.
Where do we draw the line? In another case, theymos posted this:
I'd say that there's a 25% chance of him being the original
That was enough for several red tags.
2144  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Need TRX, will send usd trc20 on: December 12, 2023, 10:38:08 AM
Since you've opened the same topic 2 days ago: why don't you use an instant exchanger? FixedFloat.com (use at your own risk) for instance gets you about 46 TRX for 5 USDT.
2145  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [BitcoinTalk Node Tutorial #1] Running Bitcoin Core on Raspbian Lite (GUI-less) on: December 12, 2023, 09:58:59 AM
Code:
cd ~/Downloads;
mkdir Core;
cd Core;
There's no need to end a line with a semi colon. That's only needed to separate commands on the same line.

In case there is no "Downloads" directory yet:
Code:
mkdir -p ~/Downloads/Core
cd ~/Downloads/Core
2146  Other / Meta / Re: Second chances on: December 12, 2023, 09:32:29 AM
We will post all of the unbanned users in this thread. Hopefully in the future we'll look back on this as proof of the value of forgiveness and second chances. (Otherwise, maybe we'll look back on this as a reason not to do it again in the future.)
Let's have a poll once the list is complete:
  • Who gets banned again first?
  • How many of the pardoned users get banned again in 2024?
  • Who doesn't get banned again in 2024?
I don't have high hopes for most banned users. Still, some may improve and become contributing users again.
2147  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ratimov sold his account on: December 12, 2023, 08:30:57 AM
Personally, I tagged the Symmetrick account when too many questions arose about the account no longer being operated by the original owner/creator but apart from one other red tag it seems as though members have refrained from tagging.
I don't really see the point of adding more tags: if it changed owner, there's a clear warning now for anyone to avoid doing business with Ratimov's new nickname. If he's just grumpy and ignoring all the drama he caused, there's no need for more tags. Any reputation he had is gone.
2148  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 11, 2023, 04:49:26 PM
I understand that decision but actually pretty sad that we have less and less freedom in the internet. Not only in crypto but in general...
And we will never get this freedom back
"The internet" is a big place. Create your own website that allows as much freedom as you want.
2149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending your BTC what to pay. on: December 11, 2023, 03:39:28 PM
In other words, you would rather spend money on something that is considered a luxury and potentially dangerous to your health, than give a reward to those who enable Bitcoin to exist?
Yes. I don't need to slightly increase the miner's hash rate for a very small increase in security.

Quote
What will happen in a few years when we have 99% of all BTC mined? If today it is too expensive to pay $3 for a fee, will there be any transactions at all if we assume that their price will increase perhaps several tens of times?
That's going to take a bit more than "a few years", but the (only) long-term solution instead of higher fees is higher transaction volume. And that's what's needed for mass adoption.
2150  Other / Meta / Re: Lists of non merit sources that got to 5000 merits on: December 11, 2023, 02:52:06 PM
1. Who is a merit source? Could someone send me a relevant thread where I can get this info?
See:
I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

2. For every 2 merits I receive, I can send 1 merit. Does this change over time?
Not until now.
2151  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: alternative to coinomi (android) on: December 11, 2023, 02:36:51 PM
Once again I use coinomi but the value of the coins there is worth less then the phone they are on so it's an acceptable risk for me at the moment.
For higher amounts, I still like keeping a BIP38 encrypted (cold) paper wallet in my (physical) wallet. I have a backup, nobody can decrypt it if I lose it, but if I ever need it, I'll be glad I have some.
2152  Other / Meta / Re: Lists of non merit sources that got to 5000 merits on: December 11, 2023, 01:58:11 PM
Are there members on this forum that are not merit sources that have earned over 5000 merits.
Check the top 37 of this list, and compare it to this list. It's not conclusive, but it'll send you in the right direction.
I get: gmaxwell, icopress, xhomerx10, satoshi, cygan, n0nce, Rikafip, GazetaBitcoin, DaveF, stompix, Hhampuz, achow101 and nc50lc.
2153  Other / Meta / Re: Question about mixer signature. on: December 11, 2023, 10:08:11 AM
I think that would be considered as advertisement and you would break rule number 24.
24. Advertisements (including signatures within the post area) in posts aren't allowed unless the post is in a thread you started and is really substantial and useful.
I would argue it's also off-topic.

Look left!
Look right!
2154  Other / Archival / Re: ➡️➡️ [ANN] | [banned mixer] | BITCOIN MIXER ⬅️⬅️ on: December 11, 2023, 09:05:54 AM
And your #1 choice is "Zengo"? To start, cellphones are terrible for privacy, but worse than that, the website is filled with buzzwords that are typical for BS-sellers that try to convince gullible people. I wouldn't trust them with my funds!
If you want privacy, use Bitcoin Core with Coin Control through Tor. To add security, set it up as watch-only online wallet, and sign offline.
There's no need to trust or even pay third parties for this.
2155  Economy / Reputation / Re: Ratimov sold his account on: December 11, 2023, 08:35:48 AM
Do you guys wanna know why nobody tagged him before?
Why didn't you?

Even after canceling the sponsorship?
There is no victim yet. If whoever wins the contest creates a type 2 Flag, I'm think it may get enough Support to become active.

Quote
and why there is now the accusation of account sale? Because he was still a merit source, so, after they realized he is no longer a source, they grew a pair, I mean what a loser PP is, to bully someone with no power. They know he is in a weak state, and won't try to retaliate, that's why they tagged him, and I bet in the future he will get more tags.
Yeah, you got me, I'm scared shitless for not getting more Merit from Ratimov. What am I going to do now without it?

he had no rights to insult people like that
Noted. You choose violence over people's freedom of speech.
2156  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 11, 2023, 08:30:01 AM
which would put everyone of us that the red tags slowed in a position to go after:

the three redtaggers
royse77
theymos and the fourom

for not giving us proper warnings.
Why are you blaming others for "not giving you proper warning", while doing this:
So you worry about a 90 minute delay before you removed your previous signature, but you don't worry about your current signature? That doesn't make sense.

I am US based. I know the fed laws here are nuts and for the next ten years they could bother me for this.
I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not under US laws, but I'd say you could claim "I didn't know" when you wore the Sinbad signature. I don't think you can still claim that for Tumbler.
On the other hand: if people advertising for services that turned out to be illegal would get prosecuted, that would basically end all advertising. As much as I'd like to not see millions of ads per year, there's no way they'll do that. It's impossible for advertising agencies to check all companies they advertise for.

Before any dt redtagged they should have went to royse77’s list and pm ed us to reqd the LE statement.
That's not allowed:
29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.
People have been banned or tagged for sending unsolicited PMs.
2157  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: December 11, 2023, 08:11:53 AM
Have you confirmed that the fee rate is variable between 0.5% and 1%? There is no fee rate info on the website
Click the Calculate button, you'll see the 1% or 0.5% rates.
2158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending your BTC what to pay. on: December 10, 2023, 03:36:15 PM
I did not mean that we are going in the direction of analyzing the possibilities that Bitcoin has at this moment when it comes to processing transactions in conditions where by some miracle everyone would start using it for payment. I am referring to those who currently use Bitcoin and constantly repeat that the fees are expensive, and at the same time it is not expensive for them to spend a significant amount of money on things that can be put in the category of "non-necessary for life".
I think we're going to have to disagree here. If I have €10, and I can choose between investing it in Bitcoin (or anything on the stock market), or buying a bottle of booze, I may choose to invest it. But if I have €10, and my choice is between spending it on transaction fees or buying booze, I'm going to buy the booze.

If Bitcoin cannot be an alternative to the existing financial system, does it mean that the idea that Satoshi had completely failed?
I'd say it means there's work to be done to improve this.
2159  Other / Meta / Re: Self hosted API's for regular signature editing? on: December 10, 2023, 10:06:27 AM
Would self-hosting an API (or something) that managed my signature be frowned upon?
I won't frown on this.

Quote
For example, having a price ticker scape BTC price and update it in text/BB format every 30 mins via tapermonkey or something like that to my signature destination.
This would be very cool as your personal text.

Quote
I could see it potentially causing confusion in archives and stuff,
You're in my signature archive, last checked 15 hours ago. There's a random delay in checking, but on average it should be at least once every 24 hours. If you change your signature a lot, you'll just get a large archive. That's okay. You shouldn't stop doing thing because it might mess up other people's archives.

Quote
or just being annoying if a color changed or something every 30 mins even if I'm not posting.
It's not as if it's blinking, it's still just static data after a page load. What may change though, is your recognition. I felt like I earned much less Merit for a while after I removed CM's signature, so I think the signature helped me to highlight my posts. But I never really checked the data.

You could also rotate your avatar a few degrees, just to mess with people Tongue

unless LoyceV would do their secondary mobile acc for ex.
Ain't gonna happen Smiley

ninjastic would see how many times that snippet was posted for that user and automatically detect if the signature was equipped on post and how many times a post made with that code attached to the sig.
But Ninjastic won't see how many times older posts with the same signature were loaded.
