1261  Other / Meta / [LN?] On-chain transaction fees are too high to pay for evil fees on: January 03, 2024, 09:14:14 AM
From my whitelist email (and I'm only sharing snippets of the email because it doesn't identify anyone):
Quote
i got 8,43 unit of evil
the "bill" was just 751 satoshies aKa 0.32 usd
ill be paying like 14$ for the fee
Bitcoin transaction fees have been ridiculous (at least for small transactions) for months now, and it also creates more pressure on the little block space there is.
I get that low-fee altcoins are one bridge too far for Bitcointalk, but would it be possible to add LN payment as an option for evil fees? That would allow new users to make a low-fee transaction, and they can even use some (centralized) exchanges for it, or send a low-fee altcoin through an instant exchanger to pay for the evil fee.
1262  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2023 on: January 03, 2024, 09:12:12 AM
Well, the result will be not far from that anyway. But thanks for correcting me. Smiley
It is far off. Allow me to edit your post:
So 4 altcoins have $670.75 income last year and bitcoin only portfolio could bring $733.85 $1552.55 what is $63.1 $881.80 more and no need in searching for gem altcoin. This result gives a lot of food for thought.
You took the average for Bitcoin during the year, instead of the final result.
1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: ask a reputable large mini-pool to include a transaction in block on: January 03, 2024, 08:33:07 AM
For this reason, my initial question is whether a large mini-pool could be commissioned with the "direct" and thus hidden insertion of the transaction into the block. This would mean that the transaction would never appear in the mempool and nobody would see the pubkey. Only after the block has been mined and made public would the whole world know the pubkey. Of course, a villain could also act trickily in the large mininpool. But there would be mitigation measures for this and the risk for this type of attack could be kept very low.
At some point I expect miners to attempt to replace a confirmed block for this. When someone paid 83 BTC in transaction fees, a pool with 25% hash rate could have gambled on mining 2 blocks in a row, thereby creating a new longer chain. In the future, when block rewards are smaller and transaction fees make up a larger share of the total reward, this might become a reality if there's 6 Bitcoin to be gained from a puzzle transaction.

Guys, in decentralization if you mean that no post will get removed and no topic or subject will get banned, then keep in mind that many people might also post some illegal and unwanted things. That will bring more problems.
Of course, for that reason peer-level-moderation is needed. Which means that yes, some content can be removed, and even should be removed. And who should do that?
Theymos wrote about this a while ago: something like the DefaultTrust system voting could work. But without some moderation and Merit requirement, DefaultTrust could be overrun by a 51% attack. So when it's fully decentralized, that may happen.

Is there any visible (not encrypted or external link) pedo pr0n jpeg in the BTC blockchain?

If so, all BTC nodes are illegal by definition.
Bitcoin nodes don't show images, and the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't support images. Anyone can give an external meaning to data, but that meaning is irrelevant without using external software. And if you want to search for illegal images, there's probably easier ways than searching the Bitcoin blockchain.

Column 26 in csv2.txt is broken; the name is ',Maniac' instead of 'mp3.Maniac' and all values are just ',Maniac'.  Sad
Thanks, it's fixed.

Quote
@LoyceV, what's the difference between your two csv files? I don't remember why I chose csv2.txt last year, but this time around my script seems to work nicely with csv.txt and the values actually seem to align more with your daily portfolio overview (everyone in the green for now).
The first file has a fixed order, csv2.txt is sorted by final balance (the last user was manually edited, this will be fixed in the next update). That makes the legend much easier to read.
1266  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2023 on: January 02, 2024, 05:29:50 PM
It means from my $1000 I made $670.75 from one year trading :-D
I should start picking up some real coins and thinking of trading sometimes.
You may want to check the 2022 results before jumping to conclusions Tongue

LoyceV.
Off topic response in threads LOL
He goes as far as replying someone in dm whenever he is determined to resist the urge of off topic reply. LOL
This has happened a few times indeed.
1268  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2023 on: January 02, 2024, 02:21:47 PM
Alright, so I'll set Paris time 04:15 for the 2023 scripts and keep them running if you think that's useful. Or I stop the chart so it only contains one full year and continue updating the participant portfolio list? Let me know what you think.
I'd say keep updates coming Smiley But make it 04:50, and Sundays only. Anyone who wants a copy of the current graph, has 4 days left to download it Smiley

It's been corrected and the correct value for Oasis Network is :
Oasis Network (ROSE)         20         1453,741932
I've updated the files, including the last update.

When people realize that Ordinals are just pieces of hot garbage and stop trading them, the bot activity is going to stop.
They'll just come up with the next money grabbing scheme. And what's a better money grabber than using Bitcoin's name instead of some shitcoin?
1271  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 02, 2024, 01:39:06 PM
They are also banned by many home ISPs so even though this is already an impractical solution to host a forum or perhaps even a BBS (if you want to go retro), there are also legal implications to this as well.
Really? I know ISPs have been forced to deny access to for instance TPB, but I haven't read any stories of actually blocking the torrent protocol. That would be a huge violation of net neutrality, and (here) it's forbidden for ISPs to restrict for instance bandwidth.
That being said: decentralization comes with another problem: you don't want every forum users to see IP addresses of every other forum user. So a VPN or even better Tor would be required anyway, and the ISP won't know you're using a decentralized forum with magic internet money.
1272  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 02, 2024, 01:33:15 PM
It's just that not even torrents - perhaps the most decentralized products that exist on the internet - are really decentralized.  Roll Eyes
Torrents with Magnet links are as decentralized as it gets: one link, that can be shared on different websites and any other way you want, contains all the information you need to connect to multiple different trackers. The trackers will connect you to other trackers, and to other people sharing and downloading the files you want. I don't think there's a limit to the number of trackers, seeders and leechers, so it's pretty decentralized.
The problems become evident when older, less popular torrents no longer have seeders. I've seen torrents with many incomplete leechers and no full seeders. If that happens to your decentralized forum, it basically ends.
1273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [bc.game] [Discussion] Best Altcoins Portfolio 2024 on: January 02, 2024, 10:42:35 AM
I've setup my scraper based on Halab's data. There's already a huge profit and losses. I didn't verify the data, and did a lot of manual copying. So please check your own data for any mistakes.

I think this is the last year I update my scraper. Coingecko is annoying to deal with, it's blocking more and more scraping, and uses different API names for some of the coins than it uses on it's website. It was a lot more work than I expected. I've also mutilated 2 usernames: no "space" and no "dots".
1274  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: January 02, 2024, 09:04:35 AM
I reckon we can have a decent decentralized forum protocol if FTTH (100 Mbps upload) becomes the baseline.

With ADSL (1 Mbps upload) it's not really possible...
Any decentralized solution that needs more than 1 Mbps continuously sounds terrible! And the main problem I have with anything decentralized is that it won't work in a browser, you'll need to install software and download everything. Those drawbacks are probably the reason why it isn't used on a large scale. I mind downloading 100+ GB on my desktop, but for mobile users, decentralization is almost impossible.
And even if you get that working: how are you going to download it to get started? Centralized on Github?
Most of the things that claim to be decentralized, aren't decentralized.

Chipmixer campaign participants were goats.
Say what?

I've said it times without number that this congestion thing is going to be the bane of Bitcoin if it's not speedily dealt with. The current backlog has lingered beyond anyone's endurance level.
I felt the same way back in 2017. Bitcoin can't grow without growing transaction numbers, and transaction numbers can't grow because the blockchain can't handle more.
Growing in value is one thing, but adoption needs transactions.

if he ever decides to recover the account, he would need concrete evidence to prove his identity in order to get the account back.
The easiest way would be to sign a staked address, which he deleted.

@Halab: How about adding a few random entries? Pick a number between 1 and 5000, get the coin. Pick a number between 1 and 50, get the percentage. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the random entries get really high, and some get really low in the final results.

Congrats to the winners! I stuck to my tradition of staying as close to $1000 as possible Tongue

Sure, just changed it to Paris time 00:50 now! Any other changes required or that's it?
I'll change this whole thing to 4 hours later, and only update on Sundays from now on. I'll keep it running for a few years, unless it stops working (again). I'm curious to look back at the results years from now.
