2181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:46:39 PM
From what I've read on bitcointalk.org there are sites that are comparative to SR on the deep net, yes?
There are many other hidden services that sell drugs. The hidden wiki has a list of most of them.
2182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad domain Seized? on: October 02, 2013, 09:06:33 PM
The question is, how Atlantis already knew it a couple of days ago... FBI honeypot theory confirmed?

I'm guessing DPR tipped off Atlantis that he was being investigated and was about to go down. They then made an educated decision to not continue down the same path. Just a guess...

DPR got a knock and talk from HIS agents in June 2013 for the seized fake IDs he ordered. He must of known or had some idea that shit was about to hit the fan.
2183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dread Pirate Roberts (silk road) arrest warrant on: October 02, 2013, 08:53:03 PM
It's easy saying what you would've done if you were in his position after the fact.

If you read through the arrest warrant and how they found him, he made some really stupid mistakes by using his personal email and name on accounts that could be tied to SR.

I admit some of the other ways they caught him.. he couldn't of changed much. But posting your name and email while you're running an underground drug marketplace is not the best of ideas...
2184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dread Pirate Roberts (silk road) arrest warrant on: October 02, 2013, 08:51:18 PM
Just got done reading the full arrest warrant.

He made some stupid mistakes by using his real name and email address on several forums/websites with information that could be tied to Silk Road.

I am surprised that he made those mistakes. I always imagined DPR as a very careful guy. I don't think he realized early on how big and famous SR would get and made a few really simple mistakes early.

And WTF... he got his door knocked on in June 2013 and he doesn't close up shop? I would of been too scared to walk outside...

I can't find where I saved my login information... damn the luck! Bye bye free ripples!
2186  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WARNING: Only buy 1+ Terahash or more Bitcoin miners hardware on: September 21, 2013, 01:58:59 PM
Pedrog ty- I try... sometimes.  Wink

So what I'm gathering from this original post is "Only let people who want to invest $3000+ invest in mining bitcoins so they can control the market" honestly, a TH/s+ miner will ruin bitcoin because then on a few people will be able to afford to mine bitcoins profitably. But then again, if you're mining in a pool i guess it doesn't matter. The issue is nobody wants to see the bitcoin market owned by only a few people.

On a more serious note, this thread title is misleading. What really matters is a combination of:
- $$$$ per Gh
- Watts per Gh
- Time of delivery

No factor is more important than the other... You can buy 1,000 Gh delivered tomorrow, but if that 1,000 Gh cost you $75/Gh (ASICMINER USBs), it is unlikely you will break even. On the opposite end of the spectrum... you can buy 1,000 Gh at $3.00/Gh (CoinTerra IV Jan), but if it is delivered in Febuarary 2014 it is unlikely you will break even.

All factors are interchangeable and ROI depends on one factor just as much as the other. It basically comes down to trusting your source of mining equipment that they will deliver the miners to the specifications originally advertised AND delivering on time or early. If manufacturers are a month or more late, most mining hardware will likely lose money.

Utilize safe forms of payments such as Paypal and Credit Cards to protect yourself. Look for a company with a solid customer protection plan. Read through all the caveats of the mining protection plans, as some of these companies are kind of slimy.... some of the customer protection plans really aren't worth much at all due to the unfavorable wording.

My two satoshis.  Grin
2187  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WARNING: Only buy 1+ Terahash or more Bitcoin miners hardware on: September 21, 2013, 01:36:23 PM
My expert market analysts have decided the opposite is true.

Only buy 1 Th or less of Bitcoin miners or else you will be unprofitable.

2188  Economy / Securities / Re: [Official Thread] SolarWind, A Bitcoin Mining Company - 100TH/s Mining Farm on: September 21, 2013, 12:53:30 PM
The problem with renewable energy/green energy is that it is more expensive than regular energy if you are sourcing it through a power provider. If you are setting up a custom solution, solar and wind energy solutions are expensive to build yourself (due mostly to costs of the parts) and will add A TON of extra costs to the farm that you are unlikely to ever break even on.

It is hard enough to break even on mining hardware as is. I understand the importance of our environment, but I don't see how it would be profitable to setup a green mining operation. Please enlighten us.. I have looked into it before and green energy is quite expensive to setup, especially in the quantity that would be needed with 100Th.

If you have some secret plan that's all nice and good, but I can't imagine you'll get many investors without revealing this plan. Also, please consider there is a reason why no one is "going green" with their mining operations, because it adds a lot of extra unnecessary expense as stated above.

Now I'm just being repetitive... carry on.
2189  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WSJ reports on BTC mining, is that user ProfMac they interviewed? on: September 20, 2013, 09:14:57 PM
Nice detective work. So, I suppose he used to live in Austin, which is where the confusion lies.

If I were him, I'd want this whole thread deleted. I don't want the whole world knowing where I live, especially if he has a decently large mining setup or something.

Anyways, not like where ProfMac lives is a big deal... props to him though for making it in the WSJ. That is certainly impressive!
2190  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WSJ reports on BTC mining, is that user ProfMac they interviewed? on: September 20, 2013, 08:42:55 PM
Yes, it's profmac Wink
Really?  I was under the impression he was based in Austin, TX.

I think you are correct Loredo. I remember him being from Austin as well (I'm from TX too, so I remember.)

Unless he moved recently, I doubt this is him.
2191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: mcxNOW Awesome exchange :D on: September 20, 2013, 07:42:47 PM
I haven't visited mcxnow in a while. I'm glad they updated it, it seems better now... it is not as ugly anymore. I think it was a very good idea to allow customers take a percentage of trading fees. Also, I love the "freak bin" chat idea. I have wanted to send some btc-e troll box chatters to a freak bin a few times or so.  Grin

I do caution everyone to be careful though. Although mcxnow provides interest on your account, you should not store more $$$ on there than you are ready to lose. The owner could close up shop overnight, or it could get hacked. Just be careful.
2192  Economy / Securities / Re: Cloudhashing ASIC mining contracts, UK LTD company - Now Mining & Paying Bitcoin on: September 20, 2013, 06:26:26 PM
Yes, Scotjam, I have not looked at this thread since my last post. I was bored just a second ago and searched my username on here and saw ManicMeddler was ranting about me in the Newbie forum on this subject. So, I am now interested in this again and will reiterate my stance.

When the first person breaks even on their Cloudhashing contracts, then I will be the first to admit I am wrong. Until then, I will stand by my opinion that it is a bad investment and CloudHashing sells overpriced mining contracts that are unlikely to break even.

I will leave it at that. It's funny how investors get married to investments they make and feel the need to defend them and belittle me in the process. I am genuinely worried about investors making their money back through CloudHashing mining contracts. Is that really such a bad thing?

I admit they are not a flat out scam like I originally thought they may be. However, they are still not a good investment regardless. Until someone actually makes as much BTC as they spent on their contract, my opinion on this will not change.
2193  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Cloudhashing Palaver on: September 20, 2013, 06:17:11 PM
Wow, I'm glad I found this. I was bored and randomly decided to search my user name on the forums, and this was the first thing that came up....

Although Cloudhashing is not a scam in the sense that I originally thought they may of been guilty of when they first started posting on these forums, I still stand by my judgement of them of them being a quasi-scam. In the same since that ASICMINER hardware is a scam because the customers will never break even with the overpriced hardware.

They sell overpriced contracts that investors are unlikely to ever break even on. Not a single person has broken even on a CloudHashing contract as far as I'm aware. They are charging a ton more than what it costs to actually buy the hardware. Anyone expecting to make money by buying Cloudhashing contracts is a clown and doesn't know basic economics of Bitcoin mining.

Their best priced option right now is £629.99 for 20 Gh... that is just ridiculous. You sir, should of heeded my warning about Cloudhashing. Instead, now you can watch your investment dwindle down to a fraction of what it was worth before you purchased the contract. I hate to say I told you so. Also, special interests? I sell no hardware, I don't offer hosted mining services (anymore). I have no special interests with Cloudhashing, I just don't like to see people lose money if I can help it. I'm sorry you're against that principal, I will not be changing my ways just because you are not fond of them.

Also, it's very courageous of you to talk about me in a corner of the forums that I never go to. It's pretty much like talking about someone behind their back. Very manly of you... next time say it to my face you bampot.

2195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devtome: Get Hundreds of Thousands of free Devcoins for writing on: September 20, 2013, 12:22:10 AM
I think you guys are highlighting the problem with Devtome. Too much emphasis is put on the quantity of words and/or images, and not enough emphasis on quality. No one is ever going to want to go to Devtome and read anything if it's just a bunch of people typing words for the sake of typing words. There needs to be some quality control in place. I do admit though, implementing a fair quality control system that doesn't piss off writers would be no easy task.

The coding/writing debate is pretty straightforward IMO. It takes a much more specialized skill to write code than to write a sentence. Also, there is a lot of thought and planning that must go into coding, when writing you can pretty much just spit out words on the paper and you don't necessarily have to put as much thought and planning into it as coding. Obviously, if a proper quality control system were in place, then this would be a non factor because it WOULD require proper thought and planning to write quality articles. However, as it is currently setup with hardly any quality control, I believe coding should be valued higher than writing. How much higher? Well, that's a whole 'nother debate.

2197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] CryptoNerd - Crypto News & Stuff... • TIX is LIVE! Come and get it... on: September 19, 2013, 11:25:38 PM
You lose instant credibility in my mind as an unbiased news site by pushing a copy cat coin like Tix right off the bat from your site launch. Horrible way to start a news site by trying to get your readers to buy into a scam coin.

Instead of a "news site" you should call it an "advertisement site." This is simply the pump part of the pump & dump.

If there was a grading system, then how is FinShaggy supposed to earn coins without mining?

Sorry, couldn't help myself.  Embarrassed

Where is devcoin girl when you need her....

Dude, I've already got over 175 pages of a book going. I know that this was a joke, but pretty soon, Devcoin is just going to be a hobby that helps me with my real writing projects.
Ok, sorry. Yes.. it was just a joke.

Good luck with your writing.

PS: moar devcoin girl please.

2200  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: knc chips picture on: September 19, 2013, 07:53:59 PM
nobody is claiming victory just because there's no battle to win.

we just want to point out to all our "beloved" fellas, that were asking specifically for chip's picture, that eventually we've got one.

as simple as that.

I understand.

I just think it is very dangerous to openly praise an ASIC company whilst they are still unproven yet. People make investment decisions off of every single thread and post in these subforums. I would hate for someone to run out and buy a million Jupiters based off of this thread, and then KNC turn around and delay delay delay like BFL.

I think it would be best to withhold praise and judgement until they actually ship working equipment (on time) that will actually ROI. I am not saying KNC will do these things and scam their customers, but anyone that thinks it isn't a possibility is fooling themselves.

Sorry if my post came across as rude, I am just tired of people championing KNC left and right when they are largely unproven up to this point.
