221  Economy / Lending / Re: 15btc loan on: August 29, 2012, 05:35:39 PM
I accepted the load from PsychoticBoy, so no one else needs to reply.   Thank you!

I will update this thread when it's paid off. Smiley
222  Economy / Lending / 15btc loan on: August 29, 2012, 04:31:58 PM
I'm seeking a loan for 15btc.  I have 2x7970 mining 24/7, so I will be able to pay you off in approx 1-2 months if I calculated correctly (unless difficulty takes a stupid jump).  I will pay back 16.5 (so 10% interest to you).  My hash rate avatar still shows just one 7970 stats, but I added another one last night, so mining at approx 1.2GH

I'm thinking about submitting this to their site, but this looks like a potential candidate for a printable gun:

Kinda cool, but the price... wow. I am going to also have to be able to print money.

Aren't we all printing money?  Grin

I sent them an email about that in case they can incorporate some of that design into something printable.  I like that it's small and narrow.  Perfect candidate Wink

For those who don't want (or can't) go to the site, it's a pistol with over-under barrels, available in .45 acp or 9mm.  You can switch out the barrels to use either configuration.

It holds 2 in the chamber, and has a spot in the grip that holds two more rounds in a speed strip for easier reloading.  So a max of 4 "easy" shots w/out having to fiddle around in your pocket.  I imagine speed strips might be printable, too?
225  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Self replicating 3d printer chain! on: August 27, 2012, 06:53:48 PM
I think what would get people interested would be pre-made parts kits with the electronics, and other non-printable stuff ready, so that all they have to wait on is the printable stuff.  At least that's what I want.  I don't mind doing projects like this, and don't mind assembling, but the thing that stops my projects dead in the tracks is stuff like electronics that don't work (like maybe I soldered something wrong).  If I had "plug-n-play" electronics kits, and the other hardware, and all I had to do was get someone to print the other stuff, and then assemble, that would rock.

Heathkit for n00bs, basically.

btw, for you youngins who didn't grow up in the 80s, you missed some *awesome* project by the Heathkit company.  Radios, robots, computers, all shipped to you in kit form, and you soldered and assembled. Smiley  Except I don't want to solder anymore - many a night was spent cussing because I had a short somewhere in my circuits. Smiley
You might be on to something, here is what I had in mind.

I would raise funding to procure a complete Printrbot kit, which I would use to print out the structure for the new one, which would (along with the electronic components or funding for them) to the next holder of the fund pot. Of course we would have to find a way to get this to work in the long run, and maybe a more diverse strategy of sending funds and pieces around to people. This could be pretty neat if we do it right, with everyone having access to one of these for eventually just the price of the electronics.

How much of the Printrbot is printable?  About same as reprap?

Nevermind... I've been reading about Printrbot and see the answer to my own question, and I think you might have me hooked. Smiley

I like how he was talking about eventually replacing things like, say, the threaded rods with plastic versions, etc.

I'm going to start saving posthaste!   I also like being able to expand the various axes.   He needs to start selling those on Amazon as well, so I can use my bitcoins Smiley

I would totally do printable guns, even if they were one-shots.

I envision something where you might get near 100% printable.  Unless springs with lots of power can be made of plastic, I envision something like 80% or 90% complete for a one-shot gun.  Maybe you need to insert a spring, perhaps a metal barrel (for better accuracy) in the plastic housing, and then screw both sides together.  Maybe something small like a .22LR belly-popper derringer?

It would totally rock if a one-shot .45 long colt could be printed. Smiley

Other ideas include a pistol with a .410 shotgun barrel (like currently on the Taurus Judge or Smith and Wesson Governor) sans rifling (since I'm not sure how well rifling can be printed?).  I'd love to see a 28 gauge pistol.

again, these ideas are likely one-shot guns, but I'd still totally do it.
228  Economy / Lending / Re: Raising funds for 3D Printer, 300BTC on: August 26, 2012, 07:13:52 PM
Would you be willing to print AR-15 lower receivers and ship them?  I might donate if you will print those out.
Otherwise I'll just save up for my own printer.

Does the reprap software recognize .igs or .stl files?
229  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Self replicating 3d printer chain! on: August 26, 2012, 06:59:05 PM
How far along are you?

With more and more plastic products hitting the shelves everyday, I've been contemplating make my own "spare parts" for various crap.  What really got me thinking (which thusly led me to reprap, etc) was a part on my Dyson vacuum that broke, and i was thinking "crap now what am I going to do".  So I'll still have to buy a replacement, but it would be nice to take various things apart, scan them (or find the files online) and print my own spare parts for when crap breaks.

My boat has a lot of small fragile plastic things that are annoying when they break as well.

Shoot, I missed this thread. Sad

I want a reprap printer (Mendel?) so if you get one mostly done, consider me for purchase. Smiley  At least the electronics assembled/soldered/etc.

I'm always a day late and a dollar short for these sorts of threads *sigh*
231  Economy / Goods / [WTB]: reprap kit (Mendel) on: August 26, 2012, 05:17:57 PM
Anyone selling a full reprap Mendel kit (for bitcoins)?

I'm talking plastics, hardware, electronics.   I'm hoping for minimal (or so) soldering, and hopefully something that has good clean power (i.e., if something requires 5V, then supply 12V with a voltage regulator, for instance).

I don't have the funds yet, so this is down the line, but I want to find someone who sells full kits.  I would consider an almost put-together kit as well (i.e., most of the stuff assembled, but I'd have to assemble the legs, belts, minor stuff like that).

I will consider a "broken" printer if the broken parts are some of the plastics.

Will you print AR-15 lower receivers?  If so, how much?  Does the rewrap software accept .igs or .stl files?

OAT HAY!
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese getting into Bitcoin? on: August 24, 2012, 09:08:30 PM
How will this affect the folks in other countries?

Overall, should we expect the world-wide value of bitcoins to increase when the Japanese get involved due to the increased demand over there?
235  Economy / Speculation / Re: I dumped. Are you? on: August 19, 2012, 01:55:52 PM
Heh... I didn't even know about the dump until I got an email from MtGox telling me my buy order at 10.5 went through.  I was like, "wtf, really?"   Prices at that point were above $14 and I was curious.  Then I saw the dump.  ooooooh.

I didn't have any money left to wait and buy as it dropped (plus I was at work and didn't have time to monitor).  Oh well, I'll just have to wait until it climbs back up.

I'm long-term anyway, with some minor "day trading"
236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just made my first Bitcoin ATM withdrawal... 3BTC from my printer. on: August 08, 2012, 06:33:20 PM
I'm a newbie when it comes to QR codes, but I was wondering if there's enough 'room' in the QR code so that if you had a reader that would read those QR codes on the bills and send any remaining change to an address in the QR code?  That way you could easily tear/up and throw away the original bill, and not have to worry about security issues since that amount would then be zero.  Then your change is back to your wallet (either home or mobile).

Obviously the QR readers (POS?) and software would have to know how to deal with the left over but then you could reprint for the next time you went out, or maybe a mobile QR maker could make your QR code when you're ready to go back up to the bar and get a refill beer (assuming you're out of your pre-printed bills)?

I love your physical ideas casascius, and wondered if something like this might be thought about?
237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will deflation be the fatal weakness of bitcoin? on: August 08, 2012, 03:17:59 PM
An 'economist' I met while riding a bus saw my bitcoin logo and informed that while bitcoin was an awesome idea, it was going to completely fail because of deflation. I acted surprised to hear this and said "oh, does that mean it will be worth a lot more?" In case you are wondering, yes, yes it will, then it will be worth nothing because everyone wants it so much.

I disagree with the economist as well... I like "stuff" too much.  Sometimes money burns a hole in my pocket.  I strongly believe that having a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.  Which means that I like having physical things that can't be taken away from me in a puff of economy crashing, etc.

I hold on to bitcoins only until I can afford that thing that I currently want to buy.

If someday they skyrocket to 100s or 1000s of dollars per, then I will buy a nicer boat than I currently own. Smiley  Or cash out to pay off my house, etc.

I take the middle road of not knowing if bitcoins will win or lose, so I just buy things now.  If they crash, great, I "won".  If they skyrocket in value, then I will feel good for you guys who gambled and won that game. Smiley

I think everyone has a "cash-out" value where they think "ok, they're high enough, time for me to cash out and buy something cool". Smiley

btw +1 for occulta as well.  I did a transaction with him a couple days ago, and went smooth as butter!
