Those who are afraid to use a splitter because of the risk of fires,
[/quote]

What is the risk of fires?

There is no risk of fire from a PCIe 1-4 splitter.
The splitter does not carry power to the risers or even draw much from the bus to power its operations.  Its same as a riser only moving data.
Maybe this is missed typed or misunderstood but a splitter like a riser reduces chance of fire from over taxing the mobo bus power.
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.8c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: October 27, 2021, 02:31:33 PM
I'm a newbie, I'll admit it. I just have 1 GPU running right now is all but will be adding more. I'm pointed to ETH as my coin...when do I get paid for what I have mine? I'm pointing to Coinbase if that helps.

What pool are you mining too?

Coinbase is an exchange not a pool.

The pool you are mining on determines minimum payout.

224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.8c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: October 25, 2021, 02:35:44 PM
The  new  version  is  finally  ready.  You  can  download  PhoenixMiner  5.8c  from  here:

Changes in version 5.8c :
  • Full LHR disable mode -lhrdis <n>  1 - yes (default), 0 - no
  • Added lock core clock
  • Fixed an issue causing crashing with some RTX 3060/3080/3090 cards
  • Implemented new "turbo" kernels (-clkernel 3) for AMD Polaris cards that can work with the current DAG sizes over 4 GB. Note that -clkernel 3 uses double the VRAM and will
provide slightly faster hashrate with slightly higher power consumption. You can use the -rvram command-line parameter to specify how much VRAM to be left unused
  • Increased the maximum supported DAG epoch to 600 (i.e. until about Sep 2023)
  • Implemented full hardware control for AMD RX6900/6800/6700 cards under Linux. Note that with these cards under Linux you need to specify relative core voltage: e.g. -
cclock -50 will set the core voltage to be 50 mV under the default value
  • Added ROCr kernels for Vega, Radeon VII and Navi cards. With these kernels you will be able to run these cards with Linux drivers 20.45 and later but the performance will
be lower than with the older PAL drivers and kernels. We recommend using AMD Linux driver 20.30 for all cards except RX6900/6800/6700
  • Fixed an issue causing crashing with some RX6900/6800/6700 cards under Linux (there is no need to run these cards with -clkernel 0 anymore)
  • Added support for AMD Windows drivers up to 21.8.1. Note that Radeon VII cards will not work with drivers 21.6.1 or higher - you need to use older drivers for proper
    operation of these cards
  • Added support for AMD Linux drivers up to 21.20 (use older drivers for Vega or Radeon VII cards as they will not work with 21.20). Note that the latest 21.30 drivers are
not supported (and the initial testing shows that even the older Polars cards are not working properly with them, so avoid 21.30 for now)
  • Numerous other fixes and small improvements

Please let us know if you have any problems or questions related to PhoenixMiner 5.8c

Dear mods,

this post above links to what i believe is a none official source of PhoenixMiner yet you delete my warning to it and leave it up?

What are you doing?

Has a scammer infiltrated your ranks or is PhoenixMiner back on Github without any notice? PhoeninxMiner was kicked off Github its well documented in this thread and the only official place to download PhoeixMiner is from there own website which is linked in the first post of this thread and copied below.

UNTIL VERIFIED OTHERWISE BY PM TAKE NOTE, DOWNLOADING PHOENIXMINER from any location other than "" is likely to ruin your week.

The following link appears to be a new github account and provided for reference it is an unknown repositary setup yesterday 24th Oct 2021 DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM IT.

So you repost and include links to known malware.  Reported is what you should have done…and thus your post has been.

Yes i reported the scammer post several times today and it is still there isnt it complete with links yet my post warning about it has been removed. For the record the links i posted are now disabled for safety and security purposes.

Merit for correcting and please dont post the links to the malware even with warnings.  Best you can do is keep it reported.  Thanks for correcting it Wink

Is it possible to set the fans different for different fans on one card?

I have got a card with fan 1 and fan 2.
I want to set fan 1 to 50% and fan 2 to 100%, but I can only select one value so far?

Push.... Is it so hard for the devs to tell me if this is possible or not?!...

You could just go to trex discord and ask.  There is more live support there.

6 gpus should be no issue with right cpu on Pro4 board.  Will need to not use at least 1 M.2 as it disables a slot according to the manual.  So 7 maybe...but 6 should be no issue unless above 4G just not available.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Vega on fire on: October 22, 2021, 03:26:04 PM
I'm not sure you will be able to fix this on your own, I had a dead Vega card too, there is short from the 8pin slot on the GPU but I still can't figure out where its coming from, I've changed all power choke but the short still stands there, don't know where to check again
Power choke breaks less often. The voltage is supplied to them through transistors, and the transistors are controlled by a PWM controller. So, as a rule, the cause of the breakdown is a microcircuit with transistors (2 in the photo) or a PWM controller.
But that is a very ideal case, as a rule, everything is much more complicated.
I do know how to use a soldering iron but that # 2 in the pic can't be fixed with a soldering iron, I removed it and I see the inside it's completely burnt out, also the four black diodes? I think on the back of the picture I sent are getting hot if I plug back the card into pc, I think it's time I throw this away, my loss 😔

Dont throw it away....parts cards are sold all the time.  GPU chip may still be good.  While you may not have the gear and know how there are people that do.  Stick on Ebay as parts card.  Seems they sell for $50~$110 depending on non working parts card.

Hi!

I have a GPU AMD FirePro S7150. I want to use it with phoenixminer and Raveos ran more than 4 hours but Phoenixminer gives always an note that it cannot get "Effective speed: 0.00 MH/s; at pool: 0.00 MH/s; share:0/0/0" . Any advice how to solve this problem? Please help me.

Best regards,
Many thanks,.

Appears if you can get this to mine which it also appears it wont...it would max out at 14Mhs.  But most topics covering this show its not capable to mine.
Has issues with cooling.

230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Vega on fire on: October 21, 2021, 06:18:53 PM
You can see the damaged parts.  One has desoldered one side from the board and the part directly above it is missing a chunk where it blew apart.    Parts need to be replaced then check for other damage to say traces and / or additional parts.  Doesnt look good.  And the paste looks like its seen better days on the gpu chip itself.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: If you were new to mining and had a budget of $5,000 how would you use it? on: October 20, 2021, 06:01:52 PM
Coinbase wallet's Defi liquidity mining project can be understood.
It is mainly built on the blockchain of Ether. It provides liquidity through the DeFi product on Ether to gain mineral revenue. Simply put, tokens, such as USDT assets, can be deposited for mining, which is called "mining" because it follows the industry term for Bitcoin mining.
If you are interested, you can send me an email and we will discuss together lixun9961@gmail.com

No matter how many times you say it…IT IS NOT MINING.

Mining is doing computation work on your own hardware.  You are not doing that with DEFI.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How good is the pcie extender on: October 20, 2021, 05:51:03 PM
Have anyone used pcie extender with four usb to GPU connection? How active is it? Some are saying only two GPUs will work on the extender max, true or false?
Many miners speak very negatively about these splitters because they don't work on many motherboards.
Better to read about hardware compatibility before purchasing.
This splitter can be used on motherboards that have 6 Pci-e ports and only detect 4 or 5 video cards.
Strange 🤔 I know someone who used this splitter on a motherboard with just one 16x pcie slot and 1x pcie slot and the splitter works very well, he is able to use four cards on the motherboard

It varies…dpending on cpu and mobo chipset used.  But cost is low so i have several extra.  In most cases i can get to work no issue but i do have a couple of boards that simply refuse to see more gpus.  So it is one of those thing you have to actually try it in your specific setup.  Good news is no drivers or software to load. Either works or doesnt.

My calculations say this solar farm you hold as an example is 0.01 ~ 0.001 of what OP is asking about.

10,000 kwh = 10 gwh = 0.01 mwh.

235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How good is the pcie extender on: October 18, 2021, 09:51:19 PM
You mean the 1 to 4 pcie splitters?
They work fine for me.

Have a couple of units with 2 of these for 8 gpus no issue.
Have seen others use 3 of them for 12 gpus.

Please disregard any posts with "new" versions of PhoenixMiner in this thread unless they are from our user account

Why you don't keep downloads only in your 1st post in this topic?
And post notification eventually for a new version as a replies,
but keep all downloads in your 1st post only and not from a replies.

This will kill any spam/scammers attempts due wrong click or overlooking.

First look who posted…its Phoenixminer same as first post.
Second this is a beta release so not replaceing the first post links.
You can wait until it is official release then 1st post update….but only ever trust beta posted by Phoenixminer himself…not other idiot users who are posting malware.

Its not hard to avoid scam…READ the post and who posted it.  Only ever D/L from posts by Phoenixminer for Phoenix Miner.

And hit the report to moderator any time you see a in this thread with D/L links from any other user in this thread.

Yes I know, but that's not a good solution.
Because you have to check and determine every single spam/scam reply if its legit reply or not.
While if all legit sources are placed on the 1st post, no need to be checked for anything.

No thanks, no time to loose to monitor the forums for those things.
The spammers are constantly and regularly are flooding the topics with those.
(It's not something to be done once and gone)

No need to replace anything, in the 1st post it could be placed both/all like this:

Beta release:
Link to: etc.......

No time to be a productive member of the board but you have plenty of time to bitch.   Whatever…its PM’s thread in the end…and you can read what he wrote above.  Mr…cant be bothered to help make this place better.

238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what PSU can i use ? on: October 17, 2021, 01:16:45 AM
You would need to use 7 of the pcie ports just on the GPU's, so how are you powering the risers???
Splitters are fine to split ONE pcie port to two for connecting two risers to each, but anything more than that is begging for trouble.

Ideally you need to have enough pcie ports on the psu to power all GPUs and risers. In a pinch you can use molex powered risers, but do not use any molex-pcie adapters that come with risers, those are a fire hazard.
As a general rule of thumb, do not exceed 80% of the rated load on the PSU for long term operation, 75% if you dont have adequate cooling.

thank you

so its ok to use the Molex 4-pin cables to power the risers instead of 6-pin cables and reserve those for the cards only ?

can i use the same cable strand for multiple risers or one riser per cable ?

finally i did the math for your last mentioned point: 5 cards x 135~w per card (of course they are power limited) = 675 W total | and 75w per riser x 5 risers = 375 W

total power needed 1050 W

are you saying i can Not use a 1000w PSU or even a 1050w PSU for 24x7 mining ??

i must admit the two models i have my eyes on are:
https://www.vatanbilgisayar.com/pc-toplama/cougar-gex1050-1050w-80plus-gold-guc-kaynagi.html
or
https://www.itopya.com/powerboost-warrior-1000w-80-gold-full-moduler-12cm-fanli-atx-psu/

due to local availability,

one last weird question, are other 4-pin Molex Cables from other PSUs exchangeable ? not sure about this PSU how many Molex CABLES it comes with TBH and i am extremely limited on my options here in Turkey:
https://www.sinerji.gen.tr/powerboost-1000w-warrior-80-gold-tam-moduler-guc-kaynagi-p-40405

kindly advise need to decide soon, thanks...
thanks,

Be careful using another cable with a psu.  You will need to check the wire size and also the pinouts from the original to the other cable.  You can usually buy additional cables from the psu maker / amazon / ebay.  If you do borrow another psus cable just make sure the pinout is exactly the same.  Use a voltage meter to make sure they wired the same…and if you dont follow this then get somebody who does or get a set from the maker.

Yes we are sure if its windows you need more virtual memory then the total of vram on your cards….it isnt used….just a windows thing.

Linux does not suffer these issues.
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.7b: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: October 16, 2021, 02:36:55 AM
Hi! Sorry for the off topic but I'm out of ideas! At least I'm using phoenix miner!

So, I bought 2x Tplink p100 smart plugs and have set 2x asrock motherboards  1. b450 steel legend, R5 3600 with 1x 1kw PSU, 2. x470 Master Sli R5 1600, 2x PSUs 1kw connected together. So both motherboards set to restore power after power loss, the first mobo starts as it should after switching the smart plug on, BUT the second x470 mobo only starts spinning bot PSUs fans... but nothing starts...no RBGs, no fans running, not even cpu fan, ONLY the 2 PSU fans are running. It only starts working properly after turning the rig on from the classic power button.

Anyone has any suggestion what the problem could be? Once again Im really sorry for the off topic and thanks in advance!
Cheers!

Have you tried swapping the units at the smart plugs?
If it follows the rig start there….if it stays at the plug replace it.
Then do the same for the psu’s and motherboards until you isolate what is causing the behavior.
