I missed the tournament due to some things that came up at the last minute. I will defo try to catch the next one.

Congrats to the winners!! Smiley

Oh what i missed another freeroll! LOL, Are they daily now because i see this on a few of the subjects on this page on the thread Re: BitcoinPoker.gg - 1BTC Freeroll - "Daily 200mBTC Freerolls"?
I need to sign in to bitcoinpoker.gg at least once a day so i don't miss out on anymore freerolls to gain a balance to play cash games from a start of 0 if this fails once we get traffic i will just deposit Smiley

No, it's that they *used* to be daily, now they're happening twice (maybe three times) per week.  OP has edited the main topic but you're seeing the old topic name in the replies.
2243  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: wiki needs an edit regarding initial numbers/characters for addresses. on: April 03, 2015, 04:48:20 PM

Mostly because a byte is the smallest unit you can easily handle and do anything with -- and you can handle bits only in the context of being parts of larger units for the most part.  So I think of encodings in terms of bytes, making it 256.

I think I can see how that makes sense in a practical way.  I need to take a closer look at the bitcoin-core code and see if I can learn a little more.  Thanks again, I'll leave off this for now.  Cheers!
2244  Economy / Gambling / Re: Vote which client you need first ....Swcpoker.eu [(Unofficial)] on: April 03, 2015, 04:45:06 PM
I'm a linux guy through-and-through.  I think the site would be best served by doing HTML5 next.  However, I voted for android because I have long bus commutes and I used to have a lot of fun filling that time with bitcoin poker.  So, even though I want in my heart to support Linux and vote for it, and I think they'd best be served by pulling in more people sooner (HTML5), I voted android because that's the one that would actually get me playing more often sooner.
2245  Economy / Gambling / Re: SwCpoker.eu | No Banking, Only Bitcoin | Bitcoin Poker 2.0 LIVE NOW! on: April 03, 2015, 04:41:30 PM
the order of big things to do at SwC:

1)  connectivity
2)  mac client
3)  android client
4)  linux client
5)  HTML 5 client
6)  every game and feature glitch & I can think of

ETA on linux client, ~3 months

Unless it's related to the skillset of your current development team I don't understand why this is the order.  I would think that HTML 5 would be number 2, as it brings SWC to the greatest number of users.

I know that this is a highly controversial topic...this is not meant to restart the "which OS is better" debate.

Several of us have said the same thing.  The universality of a browser option cannot be ignored.  I think the reply from the bosses was that power users prefer desktop clients and (tacitly) that they value fewer power-users over more casual players.
2246  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: wiki needs an edit regarding initial numbers/characters for addresses. on: April 03, 2015, 04:26:22 PM
Base256 is 256 values per byte - binary is two values per bit.  Same basic encoding, just interpreted at different unit width.

Ok, I think I can understand that fairly clearly.

0x00 -- 0xff encodes decimal 0 -- 255.  If I write that down in binary I've got 00000000 -- 11111111.  I can say one byte is a unit and call it base 256 but now my question is this: how is this helpful?  Why not just call a spade a spade, so to speak, and recognize that this is base2?

Thanks again for the education on this matter!
2247  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: bitcoin.it -> wiki.bitcoin.org on: April 03, 2015, 04:22:48 PM
Right now, the wiki contains (I'm told) explicit links directly to malware and (without warning) scams.
A redirect from wiki.bitcoin.org would enable the criminals behind these to make their stuff look even more legit than they currently can ("it's at bitcoin.org, of course it's safe").
So I think I'd personally prefer more cleanup before this happens... but I don't have time to do it all myself.
If more people could volunteer to spend even a little time on it, it would help.

Edit: To be clear, I am not promising a redirect even if such cleanup occurs!

I'm thinking you must be referring to the pages on bitcoin companies and services.  I'd be willing to take a look at them and try to post here about which look especially suspicious.  I'll see if I can do it over the weekend and post some kind of report in this forum.  Are there other sections that you're worried are linking to scams?

I finally tried it.  The animation is pretty neat.  I worked pretty good for me in chromium.  However, in firefox it just froze up.

I thought someone said I could change "bits" to satoshis somewhere in the interface.  I couldn't find it though.  The "bits" thing makes it seem like play money or some new altcoin.

Also, I ended up with 0.51 "bits" which I think is 51 satoshis.  Can I gift this to someone on the site somehow?  Is there a tipping mechanism?  It seems like 100Sat is the smallest amount you're allowed to bet.

no tipping mechanism yet in moneypot as it will encourage begging in chat , and also you can use shiba for the calculation to satoshi, although i forgot the command, it will be wise for ryan to actually add a FAQ list for shiba's command

FYI 1 bits = 100 satoshis

Yes, yes, I know what a "bit" is said to equal.  I'm not wanting to go down that road again (it seems like 20% of this thread has been dedicated to fights about "bits").  I just thought that there was an option in the UI to make it say something normal like Satoshis or uBTC.  It's all good, I must have misunderstood.

Like I said, the animation was pretty neat.

Add a countdown timer to your auction by following this tutorial: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=285166.0
Hopefully Admin will find an acceptable solution for images soon. Sad

Well to be honest I solved that one a while ago just thought someone else would notice by now

Set it as needed
Can also do it date format

Answered this one in an auction thread a while back
Guess I didn't put it in Image form so no one noticed for months ^^

Duplicates that post in the auction board as well but this time puts in the clock working as an image url
Can't delete old posts in auction lol.

Indeed, that one (from seanja.com) seems to work great!

This seems still the best poker for browser.. most of i know are required to download a software

It's the only one I've gotten to work so far.  And I even started a big overview thread about the topic (which I'm planning to update over the weekend).

Also does someone have a visualization of the chance of crashing before a certain point.  I'd like to see the graph.  Or math for calculating any point on the graph.

The formula is deceptively simple:
Code:
   winProb(mult) = 99 / (101*(mult-1))

There's some explanation in the comments:

https://github.com/moneypot/webserver/blob/master/client/scripts/lib/clib.js#L79-L109

which generates a rather uninteresting chart:

(probability of winning is the y axis, the x axis being the multiplier)

Well, or, to my mind, I'd say it generates a rather interesting chart.  It's nice to visualize all that space under the curve that's to the left of 10, and even more how much of it is to the left of 1.  Thanks for the graph!

Hey, I didn't read all 50 pages.

My question is: there will be linux or browser client in soon?

TY.

^^ My peoplez!!

Why don't you answer the question from your peoplez Cheesy

I don't remember clearly but maybe you do.  Maybe 2 months?

I guess if you looked at Micon's post history you will find the answer of timing as well as in which order the supported OSs are being done.

Remember things don't move as quickly as desired or expected.

Good point.  I coulda been more helpful.  I just got all excited that someone else is over here on the sidelines waiting for the fun.  FWIW, Android is actually a "linux client" in the sense that it's running the Linux kernel.  I do suppose that Jarx was asking about GNU/Linux (ie, the desktop OS we *all* know and love).  I thought last time Micon weighed in on this he had said Android client was next to drop.  I'm surprised that OSX has risen up the list.
2255  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: wiki needs an edit regarding initial numbers/characters for addresses. on: April 03, 2015, 04:36:12 AM

[snip]

Because the the prefix bytes are attached to a base256 encoding (ie, binary) of known width,  they affect the leading cinquantoctal digit of the corresponding base58 representation of the same number.  That zero is why mainnet pay-to-pubkey txouts always start with 1, the 5 is why mainnet pay-to-script-hash txouts always start with 3, and so on.

[snip]

Ok, I have to admit, I was floored to see the phrase "base256 encoding (ie, binary)".  Googling base256 turned up nothing that stood out to me as explaining how base256 is "ie base2".  In my mind base256 is going to mean 256 unique symbols and I can see that it would be a very compact way to represent very large numbers, a base 256 number which was 4 characters long could represent up to 1.34*10^154 values (right?).

Clearly I'm misunderstanding something completly.  And since I'm really interested in educating myself, I'd love any help here (even if it's just a pointer to some reading I should do).

Thanks!
2256  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wordpress Bitcoin faucet ? on: April 03, 2015, 04:14:30 AM
Is it safe to use WordPress for anything involving BTC? There was an exchange called AllCrypt that recently got hacked due to a vulnerability in the WordPress software which resulted in the website losing users' funds and being forced to shut down.

EDIT: Found the link which describes the hack in more detail:

http://www.allcrypt.com/blog/2015/03/what-happened-and-whats-going-on/

Since the OP wants a faucet that pays directly to the user's bitcoin address, I'm guessing this probably rules out scripts which use microwallet services like Coinbox.me and Bitchest.me. Instead, the OP would have to run an instance of bitcoind on a server or use Blockchain's API to process withdrawals. How would this affect the faucet's security (if at all)?

Given that most of the faucet scripts I've seen use microwallet or something like that, I think it would mean that he's gotta do a lot of extra code writing to store up user balances until the get over some dust limit.  On the other hand, this might not be bad for security, your script could send you the list of addresses and balances which are above the minimum then you can double check them before paying out (from another computer).
2257  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: bitcoin.it -> wiki.bitcoin.org on: April 03, 2015, 04:09:59 AM
Was this ever changed?

Couldn't there at least be a pointer from wiki.bitcoin.org to en.bitcoin.it/wiki?

Who is the current operator of the wiki, ie. the admin who can do administrative changes and decisions?

Yes. It is now operated by myself, theymos, nanotube and Luke-Jr.

Ok - good to know.

Sorry to bump the old topic, but it seems to have been left hanging here.  We (ahem, I) now know who controls the admin functions of bitcoin.it.  Are you guys willing to accomodate the cname from wiki.bitcoin.org to be a virtual host of the wiki?

I know that I, for one, have been around bitcoins for approximately 3 years and I still have to google to find the bitcoin wiki because I usually just remember, "oh it's a funny site in some european country's tld".  I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the case if it were accessible via wiki.bitcoin.org.
2258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High Fidelity successor to Second life virtual world considering bitcoins! on: April 03, 2015, 04:04:25 AM
I seriously hope what they create is much better than 2nd Life...
...so much potential, yet such a waste.

I agree, I tried second life about 8 years ago and it was kinda funny for a day or two, but then it basically filled up with spam and weirdo porn and I dunno what else.  As you said, unfulfilled potential.

Are these highfidelity folks associated with Linden labs or is it a competitor?
2259  Other / Meta / Re: Countdown timer? on: April 03, 2015, 04:00:29 AM
Is it possible to add a countdown timer in a post?

Nothing too fancy but say that an event is going to start in 5 hours from now and it can simply go backwards from the time of that post?

Something like this?

Just set the time and date at http://gifcountdown.com/ and copy the link and put the link into image tag.

For me this gifcountdown image is truncated (tried refeshing several times, same effect):

Edit: I dunno why I see invalid image where I tried to upload my screenshot to imgur?  I guess I don't know if you guys are seeing that smae thing or not.
