1721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How i make full node on latest rasberry or C.H.I.P? on: May 16, 2015, 04:55:01 PM
Found a interesting post right here:https://m.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2yyb3u/how_to_run_a_full_bitcoin_node_on_a_raspberry_pi_2/. Do note that SD cards does not have great lifespan under heavy load. Your best bet would be to get a old hard disk and run it there. If you want, you can also purchase a new SSD/HDD and they can still be repurposed to be used as computer hard disk if you want in the near future. Statistics has shown that typical lifespan of HDD would be more than 4 years.

Regarding SD cards, the same can be said for USB devices. They are not meant to be sued full throttle around the clock.

What does "sued" mean?  I know su as in super-user, but why would the device care what user is using it?  There's something I don't understand here for sure.  Let me know.

"To sue" means to drag someone or something to a court. Presumably suing an SD card or USB drive hasn't been tried before, but depending on your jurisdiction you might be successful. Note however that SD cards typically don't have enough money, so you will likely pay for the litigation even if you win the case. Suing an USD device might be more profitable.

1722  Other / Meta / Re: Default Ignore List: A Humble Proposal on: May 16, 2015, 04:52:25 PM
This has to be a Satire on default trust, right?  Surely everyone can see the ridiculousness of the proposed default ignore list.  But I think the OPs point is to compare this to the situation with default trust.

For some reason, we expect people to manage their own ignore lists, essentially you have to opt-in to start creating an ingore list.  But with trust, it's an opt-out system, where you get the default trust settings, along with the alarmist warnings ("...EXTREME CAUTION..."), unless you learn how to opt-out.

I think the satire is clever and I wish it would lead to a more careful consideration of the opt-out nature of default trust as it stands.
1723  Other / Archival / Re: Quickseller, trust abuse, innacurate negative ratings, unprofesional escrow... on: May 16, 2015, 04:47:44 PM
Seems like the discussion between Vod and TECSHARE has strayed quite far from the issue of quickseller's neg-repping worhipper_-_ for not wanting to trade with him.  That seems like a shame because as far as anyone has pointed out, worhipper_-_ did no wrong and yet is suffering a reputation cost.

On this topic of double-posting and whatnot, what about posting the exact same information that someone has just posted above you.  I notice this from a lot of signature-advertizers.  Someone will give an answer to a question, then 4 more people will reanswer it with the same information in a new phrasing.  Not to single out MZ (it's just a relevant and handy example), but this just happened right above.   MZ writes:

If not, what is the best way to bring it to the attention of a moderator?

Thanks.

Click 'Report to moderator' button in lower right of the post you want to report and type the reason in the field in the loaded page.

This is two posts below this reply:

If not, what is the best way to bring it to the attention of a moderator?

Thanks.

I can't answer the questions (1) and (2), but on the bolded part (how to tell a mod), just click the "report to moderator" text you see at the bottom right of every post.  It's quite useful and (as far as I know) the mods appreciate the help.
1726  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinAverage.com - bitcoin price index on: May 16, 2015, 04:31:50 PM
Thanks for sharing here that the site has been fixed and running again.

I guess this is sarcastic.  But indeed is is good to see that there's no problem with bitcoinaverage.  I use it as the price tracker in my wallets.
1727  Other / Meta / Re: Did Vod just get rep fucked? on: May 16, 2015, 04:30:19 PM
On topic here:  I don't have any personal grudge against Vod (I don't have him in my trust list, but I certainly don't have any reason to put negative feedback on him).   Hopefully the OP was playing a game with us or has learned something about how his own trust list works.  Smiley

Not having Vod on your trust list is a good way to get negative trust from users like Vod.   Wink

Lol.  Vod you and I don't really see eye-to-eye on a number of issues regarding Microsoft intellectual property so I've removed you.  And, what's more, we've argued in public about it and you haven't seen reason to go after me for it.  This stands in stark contrast to the behavoir of someone else I know who is (currently) on default trust.

You're funny.  But it's sad that the kind of behavoir you're joking about is actually going down (and was perpertrated against me).

The Quickseller threads are that way----------->

 Grin

Uh, you bumped this thread after 11 days to suggest that I osted in the wrong thread?  FWIW, Vod was joking about doing to me the same kind of thing that quickseller actually did (give out negative feedback over some kind of personal grudge or gripe) so it was pretty on-topic, imo.  Thanks for the bump, I guess?
1728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I googled: "The Times 0(...)" and it completed the sentence... on: May 16, 2015, 03:19:25 AM
Yes, I've just tried and completed the sentence like OP.
 I'm not logged in, I run firefox as incognito mode and have just cleaned my cookies.

Right, so what you're seeing is that you and OP have something similar in Google's model of the things you search.  This is not terribly surprising, google doesn't just show you things from the history of what you've searched.  It shows you things you're "likely" to want to search given your history.

Logging in merely associates your searches with your account---google is still going to associate them with your IP and other data it can collect from your query (browser, OS, etc).  Same goes for incognito mode and cookies---google does it's data collection severside no matter what settings you use in your browser.

FWIW, I got the "the times 0f india ..."  Smiley
1729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: One block chain for several users? on: May 16, 2015, 03:14:06 AM
It seems like there *should* be some solution where you use a network mounted file system to share the blockchain between your nodes, but part of the issue with that is that each of your nodes is going to want to make it's own decisions about what should go or shouldn't go into the blockchain since determining consensus among nodes is an important part of the software.  So I guess Danny's solution is the only real one for you.  You basically want only a single full bitcoin node, but several wallet programs.
1730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 16, 2015, 03:09:21 AM
I read this article on my lunch today and I have to point out that I wouldn't say that the article actually identifies Szabo as Satoshi.  Definitely not the way that Newsweek did with that fellow last year.  Instead, this article merely highlights the fact that Szabo is among a small group of (known) people who have the potential to be Satoshi, and it talks about the evidence for that.  From my reading of it, I think saying that they "identify" Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto is going too far.
1731  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitcoinPoker.gg - High Stakes. High Rewards - Secure Bitcoin Poker on: May 16, 2015, 03:02:19 AM
Finally there's some Ring Game action today, things are picking up a bit. 4 players at the table
But just noticed micro RGs are not raked. I don't think anyone would have a problem if there's a small rake on them. I reckon 0.10/0.20 will be the most popular table for a while, so it would be good if the site generated at least a little bit of revenue on it. My bad, it's raked.

Cool, thanks for the heads up!  I just jumped in too (still two players here).  I only have a few minutes but I'm going to play a hand or two.  So nice to see some action in the ring game that I didn't start Smiley.  Also, nice pocket AA in your ss.  Smiley

EDIT: played for about an hour and then the game broke up.  Was really fun while it lasted.  Good to see things heading in this direction.

To bitcoinpoker.gg, I'd make request to consider slowing down the pace of the ring games.  It seems like things are moving really fast.  This is appropriate for the turbo tourneys and freerolls and whatnot, but IMO, in a ring-game, things are slower and you don't want to rush you want to sit back and enjoy, I'd like it we had at least a few more seconds to make decisions in the ring game context.

Micro ring games are indeed raked. Glad to see things are picking up a bit.

I can change the ring games to allow for more time decide on hands.

Thanks.

EDIT: Changed all ring games to give players 25 seconds to act instead of 15.

Thanks, I think that'll be nicer.  I hope others don't disagree. Smiley

I like a slow paced ring game with time to think a little.  Also, this will allow multitabling better (although we're not quite there yet on this site Smiley).
1732  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Python snippet to create Bitcoin public/private key pairs on: May 16, 2015, 02:55:05 AM
There are a few more steps to go from a public-key to a bitcoin address, you have to do some hashing, append a checksum, then finally convert to bitcoin base58.  The details you want are here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Technical_background_of_Bitcoin_addresses

I run a test and it gives me the key in the following format. Seed number was 10000000000000000000.

Private:
8ac7230489e80000

Public:
041330daea0d10ec59a9f65dedd79651fad3388a2f16738678c2a1c67077038dab0e909efa28690 12fc532b4552ae7400c8760113b2fcc6f76b71a7077d43a5f9f

How can I get the format 1EHNa6Q4Jz2uvNExL497mE43ikXhwF6kZm (public key) and 5HpHagT65TZzG1PH3CSu63k8DbpvD8s5ip4nEB3kEsreAnchuDf (private key) ?

I am looking for a Python snippet to create public/private key pairs for Bitcoin just by providing an arbitrary number between 1 and 10^77. Can someone provide such a snippet?

Try this:
Quote
from ecdsa.ecdsa import *
from binascii import hexlify

def getKeys(secretNumber):
  pubKey = Public_key(generator_secp256k1,generator_secp256k1*secretNumber)
  formattedPubKey = hexlify('\x04'+int_to_string(pubKey.point.x())+int_to_string(pubKey.point.y()))
  formattedPrivKey = hex(secretNumber)[2:-1]
  return (formattedPrivKey, formattedPubKey)

If you don't have python-ecdsa installed, you can
get it here: https://github.com/warner/python-ecdsa
1733  Economy / Gambling / Re: Poker Ring Game Meetup on: May 16, 2015, 02:50:22 AM
While the real world has kept me busy a bit these couple days, every time I've checked into Luckyflop there has been some action available on the ring games. Clearly people are playing in order to collect 'lucky points,' which allow entry to the larger freerolls running throughout the day. This afternoon I used a few of my points to play in a 10 chip freeroll that paid out 3 places and had only 7 people play. Well, it was actually closer to six, if memory serves, because someone just kept shoving early in order to triple up or go home, and they were sent packing right quick. So this is my go-to spot for some quick ring action, often when I just have 20 minutes or so in between other commitments and such ...

Also, I could be wrong, but I think I spotted a weak bot sitting low-stakes from time to time. The bots I've run into tend to play weak-tight, and one can just hammer them all day on a short-handed table. Anyway, I could be wrong, but this one was consistently donking chips, and not just to me. Have yourself a run at the tables, come back and tell us if you think you spotted the player I'm talking about ...

I still haven't gotten the luckyflop client to run on my linux computer---any tips?  There were about 4 of us in a ring game for over an hour on bitcoinpoker.gg today.

Says the shill account, referring to another shill account Roll Eyes

if you're both actually two different people, which is debatable  Cheesy
Says the shill account, referring to another shill account Roll Eyes. And neither of us have to hide behind other accounts. What is your main account called?

Quickseller used ACCTSeller to troll me and, dig up dirt by talking to tradefortress, etc, before "discovering" the work of ACCTSeller when he logged in as Quickseller.  I think that's a lot like hidng behind another account.  I don't know what the deal is with you or why people are saying you and quickseller are alike/in each other's threads, etc.  I thought you were a reviewer of mining hardware, that's all I know about you.  Back to the OP, do you think it was cool for quickseller to give worhipper_-_ negative trust for refusing to do business with him?

Indeed, I saw that from Theymos, however others have suggested that all Tor exit nodes are assigned some evil (I think it was hillarious who told me this).  If it is the case that there's not a blanket evil for tor nodes, then presumably it's also not the case that you have to pay evil for signing up via tor.  If, for some reason, you got evil points on your first try, you can just make a new tor circuit and try again until you eventually find an exit node that hasn't been assigned any evil.

Yes, this gets repeated over and over again, but I have never seen anything in that regard from theymos. E.g. a quick search for posts by theymos resulted in this:

The units of evil are accumulated by IP bans. That exit node was probably used by multiple nuked spammers thus it accumulated this fee. There's nothing else to do but try reconnecting or pay the fee.

The evil associated with an IP also decays over time. So even regularly-abused IPs such as Tor exit nodes shouldn't have super high fees (>$10) unless they were abused recently. However, once you've registered an account, your evil score will not decrease, and you must pay, be whitelisted, or abandon the account.

Fees are often less than $1 (see the inputs of this transaction), but they can be more if the particular IP you're using was banned fairly recently.

The forum makes more money from 2 hours of advertising than from a whole month of registration fees. It's just an anti-spam measure.

This would have been the perfect opportunity to mention a specific rule regarding Tor users. It should also be possible to create an account via Tor without paying a fee. E.g. if you are the first person to register one after someone created a new exit node or something along those lines.

Indeed the fact that he refers to Tor exit nodes as "oft abused addresses" as the reason for their being listed for evil seems to suggest that what you say is exactly correct.  Thanks for the education!

I'm not clear on what double posting really is.

1 - Is it posting twice in a row in thread?  As Shorena already mentioned, I also don't have a problem with that, when it is addressing different points in the same thread, or to break up a long post.

OR

2 - Is it posting the same information (even exact duplicate) in 2 different threads?

Guess I should ask more clearly: if both, either or neither (1 & 2) are allowed?

I've seen a user this week, do some back to back posts, that were really odd - just quoting previous posts he'd made in the same thread.  That isn't appropriate, right?  (necro-posting)  If not, what is the best way to bring it to the attention of a moderator?

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing!
It took me some time to extract the right code lines but I got it.
It's not the best solution but it does it's job Smiley

I don't have the snippet for you ready-made, but I'd take a look in the pycoin library, specifically the Key class:

https://github.com/richardkiss/pycoin
https://github.com/richardkiss/pycoin/blob/master/pycoin/key/Key.py

The Key class has several methods which do something pretty close to what you want.  Specifically, check out the Key.from_text(text) method and the subroutines in there.  I think you'll find it helpful (I hope).

No problem, out of curiosity, which lines did you end up extracting and why did you find it less than optimal?

It's actually not even necessarily that that address was previously associated with any spam.  All tor exit nodes are subject to evil points.

See the discussion in this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=711968.0

Nope, quoting from the thread you linked:

When you register, the IP that you used when you submitted the registration form is used to calculate your evilness. The more frequently this IP or its neighbors were banned, the more evil is associated with your account. The amount of evil associated with an IP decays slowly over time, but the amount of evil associated with an account does not. You must pay or be manually whitelisted to enable posting on one of these "banned" accounts.

Here are some stats:

Evil% new users
053
0-135
1-104.4
10-200.80
20-502.2
50-1001.3
100+2.9

Currently each unit of evil requires a payment of 4023 satoshi. You only need to pay something if you have 1 or more, though.

Tor is not banned per se, Tor is misused which results in a high amount of evil points per exit node. Which in turn results in the proxy ban. This would be true for any other IP/subnet that is used for spam on a regular basis. There is no anti-Tor bias here. I dont know why people keep spreading that.

1740  Other / Meta / Re: proxy ban/tor use question on: May 15, 2015, 03:17:00 PM
No. You were asked to pay a fee because you signed up via an IP address (or more likely a subnet) that was previously associated with spam. The fee is only calculated when you register and not when you post/login. Paying the fee will not stop you from getting banned in the event that you break the rules.

It's actually not even necessarily that that address was previously associated with any spam.  All tor exit nodes are subject to evil points.
