Block size limit will be increased when there is a need for it. Can we keep this crap in the XT (is dead) thread?

Bitcoin XT is dead for good reasons. Hearn was way too stupid and gavin was stupid to follow him.

We speak about bitcoin here... Wink
2242  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: November 02, 2015, 09:20:34 PM
By the way... the problem became solved somehow now. The transactions show up normally now. I don't know what changed.
2243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin at risk. on: November 02, 2015, 09:16:04 PM
The block size limit issue again?

Yes, we are having a static 1MB limit per block atm, and today each block contains--most of the time--half of that limit. I wonder where'd you get that we are having a large mempool and many full blocks. Huh

Check this website out. It showed a couple of attacks in the last weeks. Malleability attacks and normal spam attacks.

Maybe you missed it only. Wink

2244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin at risk. on: November 02, 2015, 09:13:59 PM
i think we can handle double of the current transaction per second, with a bit of delay even x3 or x4 that, i remember that with the stress test we wen tto 140 tx per seconds, which is a crazy numbers

but still the network has proceeded it eventually

It only can handle it when the spam stops and blocks are not so full so that old transactions can be confirmed. If we would have legit transactions that are too many then a part of them never will confirm. Constantly.

But even when transactions take hours or even days... bitcoin loses one of his rare advantages. Which will render bitcoin worse in the eyes of potential adopters. We really can't allow that.
2245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is "outdated", the blockchain is the "new Bitcoin" on: November 02, 2015, 09:03:23 PM
I think even with a centralized blockchain, if a big banks create a bitcoin clone, then you can be sure that people will buy. They will trust the banks cryptocurrencie more than bitcoin. And i'm sure many bitcoiners will buy too.
2246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: where to trade USD / BTC on: November 02, 2015, 08:57:46 PM
so I usually use cryptsy.
don't use cryptsy, i read all over reddit that this is mostly scam, bugged website etc.
there will be almost always some fee in when trading

Yes, cryptsy is not a good choice. It looks like they are going down. So many bugs and it looks like they only can code patchwork. I think they don't understand their own coded code.

You should check out chinese exchanges. btcchina.com and co. Especially when you want to trade, no fees are essential for profit.
2247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halloween greetings from the Crypto crypt. on: November 02, 2015, 08:52:42 PM
The words "Crypto" or Cryptocurrency do not help Bitcoin gain mainstream acceptance, since 'crypto' sounds so much like crypt.

Are you willing/able to change the popular terms in order to make Bitcoin more friendly for average people?

Up to the point i read your post i never had the connection of bitcoin being connected to crypt. Cheesy

I think the danger is pretty thin.
2248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ransomware, the best thing that has happened to Bitcoin on: November 02, 2015, 08:50:20 PM
Ransomware will make people passionately hate bitcoin and forever associate it with crime. OP needs to explain themselves.

Some years ago, I frequently saw spam promoting pyramid schemes, which were heavily involving PayPal, and it was usually advertised with titles such as Make Money On PayPal!.

Before Bitcoin, and probably even now, PayPal and other payment services such as WebMoney, UKash or PaySafeCard, were often associated with cybercrime, for example in the context of selling stolen credit cards.

I also remember that there were somewhat similar scams like CryptoLocker, though less sophisticated, and in the style of "you are infected! you must pay now", which heavily used PayPal and friends.

However, I've never seen any outcries to ban PayPal, UKash or PaySafeCards as consequence of these scams.

While this might be considered as anecdotal evidence, my point is basically:

You're probably exaggerating, because you're "scared" of the possibility someone may think bad about Bitcoin, but I wouldn't be surprised, if a "regular person" (i.e. a non-Bitcoiner) doesn't even create the link "bitcoin == bad, because scam".

The thing is that paypal transaction were overwhelmingly more legit transactions than scammy ones. I think that is not so clear with bitcoin. Bitcoin is simply way too small still. And dark uses are strong.

This! Bitcoin has a really bad fame already. It surely is a bad thing when the first contact people have with bitcoin is a negative one of that extend.
2250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ransomware, the best thing that has happened to Bitcoin on: November 02, 2015, 08:41:03 PM
Here we go, Bitcoin to stratospheric prices and general public adoption due to the need to get their data back.

What we need now is an app that lets people automatically pay their ransomware taxes.

Not a good idea. First, the amount used for ransomware is miniscule. It should have no effect on bitcoin price.

And second, the more bitcoins gets pushed into the dark corner, the higher the chance that politicians feel the need to attack bitcoin. Then bitcoin price will crash and that's it.
2251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people REALLY use bitcoin on: November 02, 2015, 08:35:05 PM
I just wanted to know if you guys use bitcoin quite often in your life. Please give me some occasions where you have used bitcoin.

I get more and more often surprised when i speak to someone about bitcoin and the person i speak to knows what bitcoins are. Today i spoke to a relatively old man. I told him that i moved to bitcoin and he did not ask about it as if he knew. I asked back and yes, he knew about it. He had heard something about that in television. And he even had his investment adviser buy bitcoins for him, or let's say, he trades for him, trying to accumulate value by doing it.

Surprise surprise. Bitcoins fame is rising. Smiley
2252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about the Block Size Limit? on: November 02, 2015, 08:27:34 PM
nothing is done yet, it seems that they are waiting for the limit to be broken and then increase it, there was a time limit for increasing it around january-march 2016, maybe by that time...

you will do something that you think it's not necessary, only when it's too late already

Too bad they are waiting on something that they know will become a problem to actually be a problem before handling it...

Although, the code has probably been written already, so not that bad.

Blocks filling up is not a problem.

There you are. How can you say such a stupid thing? Let's assume that we have 1MB blocks but constantly legit transactions worth 1.5 MB. That would mean that, regardless of how high of a fee you will pay, always one third of all transactions will never get a confirmation.

Claiming that this will be no problem is simply stupid, sorry.

Exactly... though the reason most of the developers doesn't want to raise is that they develop their own altcoin, the lightning network. It will use bitcoin and the worse bitcoin works the more people will use their network. They invested a lot in that network so in order to get their investment back... Roll Eyes
2254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone on Reddit took this picture on: November 02, 2015, 08:10:55 PM
Really cool. I guess what brings these medias to write about it is the acceptance of the blockchain tech by a number of big banks. So financial newspapers think that this is the future when banks jump on the bandwagen. In the end result banks think it gains importance because newspapers write about it and so on.

Looks good. Smiley

I sure hope they will sell the beef and hides to stimulate their almost nonexistent economy.   Grin

I have read a bit more about it and found that it is for the Goddess Ghadami. The meat is given to the believers. So at the end it is not so bad as a ritual, it's somewhat of a feeding the poor. And it seems it's not really 250k cows, i guess the whole country does not have so many cows at all, but 20k cows and 300k birds.
2257  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Before the earthquake, Nepali People killed 250,000 cows to celebrate festival on: November 01, 2015, 10:09:58 PM
I agree. If you don't want animals to be killed, become vegetarian. No one needs to eat meat, they choose to do so because they enjoy it, thus making the pleasure of taste more important than the life of another creature. That's very sad.

Guess you found a way to live without eating vegetables? If not make yourself clear that you only survive because you still devour the life of other living creatures.
2258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thanks to people who support 1-2 MB blocks - great idea u fools... on: November 01, 2015, 10:04:46 PM
The #1 attraction of Bitcoin is its monetary sovereignty. This is how it proposes to change people's life. Not because of free & instant transactions.

How will you reach that sovereignty when you need exchangers to change it to fiat? It would be useless then. You need it as an every currency. Spendable when you want.

And jeff, the value of bitcoin really comes from those who hold and does not sell. Because they believe in the value of bitcoin and store real world value in bitcoin. They sold something to get the bitcoin. If they would sell then it would mean they lost trust and bitcoin price would crash.

I'm not going to address any of your posts since you've conveniently ignored about half of my arguments.

Better sell now, Bitcoin is dead as its block size will remain capped likely forever.

Great. You are stupid so i don't need to answer. Grow up man. Roll Eyes

I take my time to address all of your points and you simply chose the simple way. Probably you didn't even bother to read my posts so that you can claim i did ignore your points. Roll Eyes

Otherwise let me know which arguments i ignored in your eyes.
2259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thanks to people who support 1-2 MB blocks - great idea u fools... on: November 01, 2015, 09:58:38 PM
We are getting away from the original argument though which is that Bitcoin is more durable than gold. Now the Bitcoin network might be compromised or inaccessible temporarily yet private keys remain.

So let's get back to that (and forget about silly asteroids of gold).

Again - gold has survived since the earth was formed but Bitcoin has only been here since 2009.

If the governments of the world decide that they don't want an "internet' as we have had so far (which is looking very likely) then Bitcoin might be dead in only a few years (but gold will still be here).

My advice to any investors would be to diversify between gold, property and Bitcoin (and in that order - and notice I did not list *fiat* at all).

What if the governments of the world decide that they don't want gold circulating either?

To be quite honest I'm not buying the premise of the internet somehow getting closed down or made inaccessible. Provided Bitcoin the blockchain remains small enough (another important reason to keep the block size small) it will be able to operate on low latency network and as it propagates and gains adoption will create even more incentives to make the internet more resilient to government attacks (mesh networks, etc.).

Even if we are to ignore durability there are still numerous aspects of Bitcoin which make it more desirable to hold than gold. While you might argue that the physical nature of gold make it more resilient to certain attacks it certainly renders it vulnerable to a whole range of issues (theft, seizure).

Then what if governments decide bitcoin is bad and forbid that anyone accepts bitcoin? Exchanges, Shops... it would crash. And be an illegal currency. What would it's worth be then? Nearly nothing. Not much different from forbidding gold. You still can hide some of it most probably when the rest gets confiscated.
2260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thanks to people who support 1-2 MB blocks - great idea u fools... on: November 01, 2015, 09:53:52 PM

Now there might be an asteroid made of gold but I don't see any real plans to bring that back to earth in the next 100 years (we will more likely see humans on Mars first).

While bringing that gold down probably would make gold practically worthless... too much of it available.
