I was wondering, does multi-algo solves orphaned block problems?

If you have 1 algo and 5 minutes block, and then switch to 5 algo and 1 minutes block
every algo would still find one block in about 5 minutes. But average block time would decrease to 1 minute.
Does it mean that you can have fast confirmation time and low orphanage rate at the same time, or not?

I think you would still have the same orphan rate as a single algo with one minute block target, because a block from one algo can orphan a block from a different algo, so I don't think multi algo buys you anything in terms of orphan rate. I do like the multi algo philosophy of opening mining up to as many people as possible: ASICs, GPUs, and CPUs; cryptonight kind of tries to do the same thing with a single algo by attempting to level the playing field between ASICs, GPUs, and CPUs rather than giving them their own separate algos to hash on.

Hey guys,

I got a few question about mining ( real newbie in the field ) and would love if you could help me with that.

1. I feel  like solo mining is best compared to pooling, I have a pretty powerful rig, but I would like to know if that's actually the case ? If a pool is better why ? Any recommendations Smiley

2. I don't understand the multi-algo thing, from the UIS doc I understand that there are 5 algo for block generation, each algo generate a block every 5 min. Does that mean that if I mine only on Qubit in the best case scenario I'd mine a block every 5 mins ?
Because Qubit is the most worth it algo for my rig...

Basically what would be the ccminer command line to run the multi algo ? I'm confused because I just input "-a name_algo" in the command line.

3. Do you mine more UIS if you do direct mining compared to merged mining ? If it's the same amount then what shall I merge mine and do you have a tuto / advice to get set up ?

4. When I try to mine on lyra2 with ccminer I get a really low hahsrate : http://imgur.com/tKFm2kI

I also believe my command is wrong, I changed the port in the .conf to 10000, I tried 50604 aswell. But as an example after a bunch of hours of mining I had no accepted block.

5. I believe that when you mine the payout are sent to your node address but just to make sure there is no need to add an address in the .conf file right ?

Thanks in advance for your help,

If you want to solo, it's easiest to run your own p2pool node, it's just easier to merge mine that way. For instance, I mine myriad on qubit algo on a p2pool node I run, and then solo merge mine unitus at the same time. Or you could run a vertcoin p2pool node and solo mine on lyra2re2 algo.

Ccminer command will be the same as normal, just set algo, but you also have to set the algo in the unitus conf file to tell the daemon what algo you want to mine.

It's the same amount. Definitely merge mine. I'd recommend myriad or vert, digibyte is another option. Look for tutorials on setting up your own p2pool node and merge mining.

Make sure you're on correct/latest ccminer for lyra2, there were several versions of that algo.

No need for address in conf (but I think you do specify for p2pool).

I'm not at home or on a real computer right now, but let me know if you can't figure it out and I can help more when I get home this weekend.

...

btw, that brings up this question: can u run 2 mining programs at the same time? (cryptonitelite & ccminer)

thanks again Cool

You can run multiple mining programs, but you'll just split the hash between them generally, so it's not something I would do. Won't hurt to test it out though.

Oh my God! Buying UNITUS was biggest mistake of my life.
I have no other option than to dump all for big loss  Cry  Cry  Cry
Just as Baar guy prophet told me!

Or not?

Lol that was quick, and you must be living a pretty mistake free life if your biggest one only cost you $50 or whatever.

yo guys,

currently mining in a pool w/ a new skylake system. Core i7-6700, Asus Z170 AR mobo, 16 GB ram and plenty of SSD space. mines about 750 H/s w/o a GPU (using the new chips HD 530 graphics). system consumes very low power. was wondering if a an Nvidia GTX 970 would work well in mining, or would i have to go solo? (have read back at page 97 and others). figure if i could get it to work, it'd be like a 2nd CPU  Shocked

doing Win 10 64 bit. all running well, and simple wallet.

any ideas? experience? would Radeon cards be betta?

thanks
shivad

Nvidia should be more power efficient, might get higher hash with AMD 290/390. Either will work, but you'll need to mine at a pool with GPU.

Please tell me a cloud service for mining Monero Wink

AWS is fine if you're not paying for it.

On an unrelated note, would it be possible to implement something similar to Claymore's new dual ETH/DCR miner, but replace ETH with XMR?

What does that do?

Mines ETH and DCR at the same time with supposedly very little hashrate loss compared to regular ETH miner. Apparently it's possible because ETH is memory hard algo and DCR is not, which I thought maybe possible to do here since I think cryptonight is also memory hard. I haven't tried yet because it's Windows only and my AMD cards are all on Linux boxes, plus been busy/traveling lately.

from my experience, you definitely can't mine XMR and ETH on the same card - I tried to do it using my nvidia 750 ti's. You can get both to fit on the card memory wise, but the xmr miner wins out over the eth miner (for whatever reason, maybe because cuda has higher priority than openCL).

Not XMR and ETH, they're both memory hard, right? The idea was XMR and DCR.

Care to share?

You will be among the first to know, I promise.
Now I need to talk with the dev first.

He is fairly active on Reddit as /u/nzsquirrell in /r/Myriadcoin.

What is the point of burning UNITUS for BAAR?

For one thing, people who held UIS after our burn lost most of their money.  People who burned their UIS for BARR did not lose their money.

So that's one good reason, since the price of BARR has gone up and the price of Unitus has drastically dropped to 8 satoshis.

Another reason would be liquidity, since the price of UIS would instantly be at 1 satoshi, and then soon 0, if anyone wants to sell more than .12 BTC worth.  People have been able to sell a lot more than that after they swapped their coins to BARR, and BARR currently has over $800 worth of buy orders on the market.

Another thing is that Unitus depended on Poloniex, and was left with no way to trade when Poloniex delisted it.  Now it's depending on Cryptopia.  BARR can never be delisted from the decentralized NXT asset exchange, and so people who burned their UIS for BARR are now holding a more decentralized cryptocurrency.

BARR also has the full strength and security of the NXT network, with hundreds of active peers.

Unitus has forked and stopped working, although the dev did quickly fix those problems.  BARR has not had those problems, and BARR doesn't have a coinstealer virus alert either.

So those are some reasons why 46% of all existing UIS coins were burned for BARR.

We burned over 17 Million UIS, and we exchanged them at a value of about 320 satoshis per UIS.  That means UIS holders who swapped for BARR got about 54 bitcoins worth of BARR for their UIS.  Right now, the entire marketcap - all remaining UIS in circulation - is less than 2 bitcoins.

I hope your investments work out for you, but the fact is that not one person in the world is currently willingly to offer even 10 satoshis for UIS.  BARR paid 32 times more than that.

Actually Conqueror just willingly offered (and purchased) a pretty large stash of UIS for more than 10 sat.

Maybe I'm retarded, but I can't even see how to launch the game in the browser anymore from spellsofgenesis.com. Can someone post URL of actual page where you begin a new game?

Also, everytime I log in it sets French as the language, and if I switch to English it stays as I browse website, until I clike on the My Profile link, then it switches back to French...which is kinda weird. Does that count as a bug? Smiley

edit: Nevermind, think I found it, it was just in French on my profile page :/

Here is the link in address bar on My Profile page: http://www.spellsofgenesis.com/users/my_profile?lang=en
It says 'en', but it's all French, the button to test says "Tester la version Beta".
If I click that it takes me here: http://www.spellsofgenesis.com/users/alpha?lang=fr
Which is in French, but if I manually switch 'fr' to 'en' it is in English now.
Definitely seems buggy...
That's weird, for me changing languages works...
here's the link: http://spellsofgenesis.com/play/

Same bug, never succeed to switch to English, it looks like this https://i.imgur.com/jZ1nPby.jpg

Didn't mention, but was using chrome on win10.

Don't know what to tell you about virus total, but I think the developer is trustworthy. Run it in a vm if you're concerned.

Coin emission is in first post. You can also see supply here: http://unitus.nutty.one/network

It's actually only ~24M now, because a whole bunch were burned for some other project.

Thanks a lot. That leads me to other question? What is the point of burning UNITUS for BAAR?
I just bought 10% of marketcap (2.4M coins) and the last thing I want is to burn my coins Cheesy

I dunno, I think it was just a scheme to lure people into the NXT ecosystem, since they're 100% premined coin seems to be on long slow decline, I guess they thought they could draw people in with a new 100% premined asset that they distribute for burning fairly distributed coins.

I noticed someone chewed through a bunch of my sell orders on Cryptopia  : Wink

Nice to have you on board...

Hello,

What is current development of this coin please?

Recently hardforked to swap in lyra2rev2, so it can be merge mined with Vertcoin. Not sure if any immediate plans, but developer is active, he recently did the vast majority of the work upgrading Myriadcoin to the v0.11.2 Bitcoin codebase.

Thnaks a lot for info!
Is it safe to buy coins offered on Cryptopia? Are they on correct chain?

Yes, I sent some coins in a few weeks ago and withdrew some few days ago. They have explorers on page so you can check too.

can I mine Decred on two cards using CrossFireX with 290x with double Hashrate or need something to alter? Z170 motherboard ASRock.  thank you

Never mine any altcoin in crossfire mode!
Use risers for your gpus
why? and where to get risers for video chips?

I think you get lower hashrate in crossfire mode. You can buy risers on eBay or some little mining web shops, search for "GPU USB risers"

Please define "nothing happens."  Is there an error message, or does the computer simply halt until rebooted, or what?
Is your Java dir in your PATH?
What does it say if you just enter java (with no options) at the command prompt (in the dir where your jar is)?

When I click 2 times on the file Lightwallet nothing happens at all. There are no error messages. Without difference which file I click exe or jar.

Clicking two times is not running it from the command prompt. Just use simplewallet, it's really...simple Smiley

Does double clicking a jar file work on Windows?

Maybe he needs to do "java -jar jarfile" in a command window?

jar should associate with java, it works fine double clicking here.

There's got to be some output at the terminal if it's not working. If you're really seeing absolutely nothing when running the jar from cmd, maybe try verbose mode(s) to get some output:
