2281  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7 gpus on a single motherboard is posible? on: December 03, 2013, 09:04:39 AM
Why would you power the card from your motherboard?

Wouldn't you use the separate connector on the card?

Cards can pull power from the PCIe connectors as well as up to 75W from the PCIe bus.  This is fine with 1 card.  With 5+ cards the drain on certain boards can burn out components.
2282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would you pay? on: December 03, 2013, 09:01:26 AM
use a mining profitability calculator, for example here http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/. You will see that 5GHz miner running from now to eternity with free power, will generate ~0.3 BTC.

After checking this calculator I guess not a single device will give me profit after march 2014  Cry

Well they will generate a net operating profit on a day-to-day basis but not when the cost of the initial hardware is figured it. Unless you can get the miner for free or 1/2 off it's not worth buying anything right now.
2283  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Not] Good price at CEX.io on: December 03, 2013, 08:59:17 AM

2x is reasonable?  Huh

Maybe in BFL's demented mind.

Two times what? Two times what you think GHS are worth? Maybe you've got some great ideas about what mining equipment people should buy for immediate delivery and also have the facility to sell it back immediately if they change their mind, or even if they want to trade?

No, didn't think so.

Your concept of what a GHS is worth is based on physical rigs, that's fine, you go ahead and buy it, whatever it is and at whatever price you think it's worth. But you can leave your criticism at the door for people who perceive that CEX produce a product that they want to use at whatever price they want to use it at. You're not the arbiter of universal truth and fair value, so quit acting like it.

And who gives a fuck about BFL? You obviously raised them based on what you perceive their price per gigahash to be - your comparison is absolutely meaningless as CEX delivers immediately and BFL hardly deliver at all.

You don't like CEX or think the price is fair, fine, live with it. Others do like the price and there's a pretty responsive market to prove it.

 Angry

Sorry, but your noob is showing.  Arbiter of universal truth and fair values - sounds like something out of HeMan.  Whether it is virtual or actual hardware the ultimate purpose of the owned hash is to solve blocks.  Cas coins are only valued higher than digital BTC because of some sentimental/aesthetic value.  If you think CEX hashes will be worth more as a collector item then so be it.  In my eyes (and ½ the people in this thread) this is just another game of hot potato or greater idiot.  Seeing as how you've been here for 3 months you haven't seen the last 4 years of scams.

The BFL ref was not a comparison.  A steamy pile of dung is about all BFL could be compared to.

I don't care about CEX prices as I don't own any shares/hashes with them.  What do I do care is about centralized networks that decrease the value of my BTC by weakening BTC security and looking for exploits...you can dig that up if you like.
2284  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which machine to buy? on: December 03, 2013, 08:43:40 AM
Go with KNC, best company producing ASICS, 20nm chips and they deliver on time too.

KnC is a good company but 10000$ for a product that will come 5 months later. No thanks.

The people who spent $5k with a 4 month wait seem to be happy.
2285  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it a good idea to buy a 100GH/s asic that will ship in february on: December 03, 2013, 08:39:48 AM
I missed the Bitcoin boat, even though I new about it in 2011, I didn't pay much attention to it. Bought a couple of coins at a peak, thinking of mining now. I found a chinese company selling 100 GH/s asics at a relatively cheap price but they will ship only in february. By that time there is a possibility that even 100 GH/s will be useless. So I wanted to ask if that would be the case or is it still worth buying asics?. I can't afford those ASICs that have > 1 TH/s though they might be cheaper on a per giga hash basis.

Every hash that is not in the hands of some large pool or user makes BTC stronger and more resilient.

You will not make a profit from the device, but you will strength the currency.  Buy some coin and if you have leftover money then buy the device (think of it as buying a safe for your gold or silver).

No.
It's virtual currency forum.

No it is the Bitcoin forum (and mods will move threads).  Most of the conversation about alts should be in the Alternative Currencies subforum.  Having said that, I do mine those alts  Wink
2290  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BFL Single SC dead after less than a month on: December 01, 2013, 07:56:04 AM
I'd say to first test the input and see if you have 0 ohms.  If that is the case, there is likely a bad solder joint somewhere that is touching the 12V to ground.  I'd inspect near the input plugs and see if there is anything obvious.  If you know anything about soldering, all you'd need is a good hot soldering iron and a soldersucker to remove the excess causing the short.  If you are uncomfortable with soldering, then you'd probably have to RMA it.

Yeah, great advice.  The product is under warranty and you think he should start fucking around with a solder iron.  *golf clap*  Another great idea from the likes of BCP19.

Normally I wouldn't support bcp19 but he's right.  Having been the recipient of dead BFL hardware the warranty is of no use is nobody will accept an RMA (have you tried to RMA with BFL).  Fixing it yourself or finding somebody locally at this point is the better option, in 3 months it may not even be worth shipping back.
2291  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: NVidia GT 610 Any Good? on: December 01, 2013, 07:51:37 AM
Who knows?  Someday, 1 LTC might be worth $100,000 or more and all this mining "at a loss" will have been worth it.  Gotta think beyond the now.  My home office server is up 24/7/365 anyway, so wth, right?  I am also running minerd.exe and getting 52 Khs from my CPU (16 threads).  So, a whopping (ha!) ~70 Khs total!!!  Grin
this logic is often repeated, but is false. if you're mining at a loss, it means with the same money spent on electricity, you could buy more LTC than you can mine. why mine when you can buy from exchanges and get more coins for your dollar?

The fool necroed a dead thread from a year ago and his username is batshit....think we can assume he's crazy grue  Cheesy

2293  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What to spend 1.5k on on: December 01, 2013, 07:22:24 AM
The only reason I could see to buy hardware now would the be the expectation for a huge price crash, people to sell off rigs or shut the marginal ones down and hoping difficulty goes down or stays constant while you mine with your hardware.

If you don't think the price will crash, buy 1 BTC and some LTC, PPC, XPM, FBI, XOXO or whatever u want.
2294  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Advise me to buy the 600ghs Monarch or not? on: December 01, 2013, 07:18:04 AM
I too have placed multiple orders with them.  Received my first unit (cost 208+ BTC) only to have it die after 7 days of mining - was useless for over 2 weeks costing an additional 14BTC of lost income due to nobody answering emails, PMs or responding on their own forums to my begging.  On the second order I filed a chargeback and filed complaints with the State AG, DA & FTC.

Just another BFL success story...
2295  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Not] Good price at CEX.io on: December 01, 2013, 06:47:00 AM
Now ghs seems quite cheap
anyone starting to buy?

Yep, the last couple of days I've been buying. I think there's going to be solid demand for CEX GHS going forward, it's a flexible product, reasonably priced, large zero fee pool that you can point your physical rig at and has the merged mining coins. There's always been a lot of doubters around about CEX, normally based on price, but it fills a massive hole in the market as there used to be nothing between buying your own gear and mining contracts. I'll always keep my rig, but in some senses CEX is a 'category killer' as if you've got sufficient GHS, it's ideal for regular payouts or for reinvestment.

I wouldn't want you all to buy right now, so keep selling folks, leave me some cheap GHS to buy tomorrow Cheesy Wink

2297  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How often do you restart the computer your mining on? on: November 27, 2013, 08:56:27 PM
You'll probably be able to tell who is using windows vs. linux in this thread Smiley

I restart probably monthly and restart my asic cgminer app itself more often than that due to stability issues.

Implying one OS is more stable than the other?

Both Windows 7/8 and Linux variants will easily run 24/7/365 when being used as pure miners.

2299  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining in a pool and just found my first block on: November 27, 2013, 07:46:15 AM
Sell those coins on an exchange for US Dollars NOW.  The price of BTC is on a surge right now, created by China just discovering BTC, it will crash HARD, and very soon.

If you don't, you'll be holding 25 BTC worth $90 each when you coulda sold them for $900 each.

After the price crashes you can buy them back if you want.

Either you're using an alt account or you made your account long after Y-I-FU.  I assure you China did not just discover BTC.  Zimbabwe maybe, but not China.

You think Avalons were made in Kansas City?
