2281  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer - mixing reinvented on: December 02, 2017, 11:44:26 AM
Good news! We have won first bitcointalk ads auction since weeks. Our rolling banner is coming back!

When we started smallest ChipMixer chip (1 mBTC) was worth $1.5.
Today Bitcoin price reached $10,000 which makes the smallest ChipMixer chip (1 mBTC) worth $10.
Should we introduce smaller chips?

My understanding is that the focus should be on btc while the USD equivalent should not matter. Now the 1mbtc is $10 and you intend to create smaller chips what certainty do we have that the price won't crash to the original position that it was at the inception of ChipMixer. It will then lead to inconsistencies and the likes. My suggestion is that the 1mbtc should still be maintained irrespective of the price and later when stability has been maintained that price might not go below certain point, decision can then be made to create lower chips.
2282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HODL: You have to wait 30 years for your money on: December 02, 2017, 10:51:21 AM
For all of those you like to say HODL.

If you wait long enough it will bounce back.

As an example look at the Dow Jones stock index.

If you bought in 1929 just before the downturn you had to HODL for 30 years until the price was back where you bought it

If you bought in 1966 just before the downturn you also had to HODL for 30 years until the price was back where you bought it

Don't believe it? see for yourself: http://www.macrotrends.net/1319/dow-jones-100-year-historical-chart

Are you willing to HODL when the price goes down and risk having to wait 30 years to get back up?

The rules of the games have changed to what its traditionally obtainable in the finance  world. The reference you made is not applicable to bitcoin or digital currency rather to stocks whose price increase is greatly regulated. The directors of the companies involved would have taken care of their families to generations before thinking of doing activities that could increase the market value of their shares and the cumulative of this to have effect will take the 30years.

But in the case of bitcoin, no one is given that authority so the forces of demand and supply are allowed to play their role to the fullest with individuals being the determinants of the direction with all this, I don't think it's informed to compared the two.
2283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indonesian Government Banned Bitcoin on: December 02, 2017, 09:33:16 AM
I am Indonesian, after about 6 years living with bitcoin life, mining, trading and join bitcoin community, from mining and trading i got more income and others benefit but what  happen now? bank central of indonesia will ban bitcoin, Fucking stupid  Indonesian government

https://news.bitcoin.com/indonesia-media-urge-bitcoiners-to-cash-in-ahead-of-coming-crypto-ban/?utm_source=OneSignal%20Push&utm_medium=notification&utm_campaign=Push%20Notifications

Reading through the article suggests that the intending ban is going to be a massive one if successful. This will equally send a panic to the market over there but because the population of people country does not constitute a major bloc in the entire market, that is why we still haven't felt it.

Before decision is made on whether you want to cash out, try to study how they intend to effect the ban because the painful thing is pushing you to sell then realising that they don't even have both the technological and human capital to push the implementation forward and the timing it will come to effect is equally important
2284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This concerns all Bitcoiners. Your privacy is in danger. on: December 02, 2017, 05:08:28 AM
Although Coinbase says it's a partial victory, this is still a very huge concern for 14,000 users' privacy. What other recourse does the community have now if it becomes a precedent for other countries to take government action to retrieve customer data?

Read Coinbase's statement. Coinbase Obtains Partial Victory Over IRS

What I see here is Coinbase trying to do damage control by releasing a statement to claim a victory in their loss and showing to the entire crypto community that they can still be trusted about them not snitching to the authorities about their activities but the question remains, who will then fight for those whose details will be given to the authorities. While Coinbase is claiming victory, IRS is also doing the same because now they have something compared to nothing they had before going to court in the first place.

If you value your privacy start looking else where because laws can be reviewed, appeals can be filed, judgements can be delivered against Coinbase and you can be unlucky to be part of the sacrificial lamb of Coinbase then they come again and claim victory.
2285  Economy / Services / Re: Do my online Econ 101 quiz for $15 in BTC on: December 02, 2017, 04:21:01 AM
I have finished a few economics courses in my university before and I highly doubt this is something you wouldn't be able to do yourself. Unless you literally spent the entire semester completely ignoring the course, you should not find the material to be hard. An introductory course to economics is something that even high schools offer as an early college elective nowadays.

Regardless, how long is the quiz and how much time do you expect it to take? I am not planning to do this for you myself, but this kind of information is expected if you want to strike a deal with someone.

Please, lay off that judgmental attitude. I've been working hard all semester. I haven't ignored the course.

If you already know the course, it shouldn't take that long. The length of the quiz I can only reveal in PM as I do not want to be dismissed for academic dishonesty after having someone from the school see this post.

If this is what you fear, then you wouldn't go this route trying to pass because you don't know who will be contacting you. By just the little information about the test you have there, some people would have known already the nature and even the exam you talking about just looking for evidence to back it up then nail you. Not everybody on the internet or forum like this would want to encourage behavior like this especially if he/she labored to get his own score.

I am not judging you, but I am saying be careful who you want to give more information about the test and more of your details.
2286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Virtual mayhem by unregulated cryptocurrency exchanges on: December 01, 2017, 08:44:06 PM
Hello everyone,

I've written an article about cryptocurrency exchanges and some trading risks and pitalls. I would love to hear what you think of it! And of you can spare the time, fill in the survey at the bottom of the article.

https://medium.com/@denboerdaniel/virtual-mayhem-by-unregulated-cryptocurrency-exchanges-fbf6edf2992b

Thanks in advance!!

Cryptodd

Everything you have there as the disadvantages of unregulated exchange sites are valid which is something that should be considered and there is really nobody to check the excesses of these exchange sites. They tend to change policies over night, delist coins at will, cancel orders without recourse, forever non-resoponsive support platforms, locking account of users without notifications, funds stolen without being held responsible among the many sins of all these exchange sites.

However, the concern here would be, who will regulate? Bitcoin is decentralised by nature and committee could make that happen. If we call on government, then we should be willing to submit more than what we bargain for including our anonymity. I guess that is the irony of what we have to face for now.
2287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: McDonalds to accept Bitcoin by 2018 on: December 01, 2017, 08:00:02 PM

Even though this is not confirmed yet as to the exact time they want to start accepting bitcoin, because reading the article make it seems like its just speculation. But someone like me will not spend my bitcoin on food or snacks when I can spend cash. I would only spend bitcoin when the option of spending cash might be more expensive.

In this case, a lot of businesses coming in are capitalist and ruled by greed not because of the live for bitcoin. They know that if they collect say .001Btc which is like $10 today for a particular meal, with the high probability that bitcoin will rise, before next week, it could have appreciated to say $11 or more just by holding. I as an individual will not give them that joy.
2288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [HELP] Tax Time: Where to cash out Bitcoin in the US?? on: December 01, 2017, 07:33:12 PM
You are really in a big mess but I don't understand the arbitrariness of the law over there because capital gains will only arise when you sell the goods and not just by keeping. What if the value drops immediately you pay the tax at a high value that means you would have been over charged as a result of that.

The issue is this, since you don't have the real money, what do IRS seem to want to claim now? Cashing out a million USD is a whole lot of money. But there are two options you should consider based on which one suits you but depositing a six figures into your account would create additional problem

1. Try using a peer to peer site where you could get an individual willing to sell for either cash in your locality or pay it into your bank account.

2. Find a trust worthy individual who can help you cash out, then send the money to you just like sending money overseas.
2289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you taxed on Bitcoin? on: December 01, 2017, 05:09:50 PM
I went for No because I have not paid any tax on any income from bitcoin, not because I don't want to pay and would even be glad to pay but because my country administration does not feel it's time to tax bitcoin yet although the conversation is ongoing currently which I am not sure when its going to end not any time soon though. Until then, myself and every other person in the country involved with bitcoin will have to enjoy tax free income but be mindful of back dating of assessment any time government authority is ready for us.
2290  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: A Crisis in Central Banking: Will It Soon Explode? on: December 01, 2017, 04:21:23 PM
Central Banks will always find a way out of the entire situation and because government continued dominance relied on them getting it right, they will still have the support. It does not cost the government anything to even borrow from other countries and let the citizen pay till the next century so far they continue to keep their dominance.

Central banks, no matter how we detest their policies, a lot of citizens still relies on their existence which is what matter all we have to do is to find a way to continue operating and keep our own finance from their own bubble whenever its going to happen. It maybe now, it maybe never.
2291  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Please help (cloud mining) on: December 01, 2017, 02:52:50 PM
Please help me
I want to invest 1000$ at hashflare buying 7TH SHA-256 I calculate the daily revenue from 12$ to 15$ and maintenance fees is 2.45$ daily for 7TH, did I calculated right ?
Please help me with suggestions to the highest profit

Based on the calculation you have there, then it means on the average you get a net revenue of $10 which mean you will need a minimum of 100days to ROI which is over 3 months but the concern here is that, will the company you are planning to put the money into, will live beyond that 3 months. Another concern is that the return as I have expanded upon is not what it seems as the charges might go higher while the return might go lower depending on the difficulty experienced.

You should do more research or find other projects to invest in and you are sure to make good return rather than relying on cloud mining.
2292  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Crypto currency VISA / MasterCard ? on: December 01, 2017, 02:23:35 PM
Thanks all for the explanation.

@LeGaulois
What kind of problems if I'm outside Europe?

The issue of people outside Europe is that both Visa and MasterCard issued a statement of stopping the extension of their services to people outside the EU region in the case of crypto currency and its largely due to KYC policies in my opinion and that made some card providers stopped their services especially those whose major clients is coming from non-EU countries even BonPay had to change their targeted population with that statement.

2293  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BITCOIN IN AFRICA on: December 01, 2017, 12:39:23 PM
Africa has a long way to go because of the basic infrastructure that needs to be put in place in other to use bitcoin in terms of internet, electricity and basic education but at the same time, that does not remove the fact that for the few population that are involved, Africa has put itself in the scheme of things where you get to enjoy your earnings with little or no interference at least in the short while.

Today, we talk about projects and sites relating to bitcoin excluding some citizens of some certain countries but not in Africa. Yesterday I read about court ordered Coinbase to release information of those who have made transactions on their platform and this is not happening in Africa which shows how receptive Africa is to bitcoin at this time.

A great portion of Africa people do not have access to banking services. Because of the wild landscape and many remote villages, it is not easy for someone to go to the Bank. Bitcoin, does not need bank infrastructure, so it can be easily used wherever there is internet connectivity. More over bitcoin make payments and wallets available, wherever there is an internet connection.
Lol. Do you think that in remote villages have Internet? I am sure that there is not even electricity. Bitcoin is a digital technology and it is not available in countries with underdeveloped infrastructure. I do not believe that bitcoin will ever be used by people who do not know how to read and write. It's impossible.
2294  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Beware from Xapo !!! on: December 01, 2017, 09:32:29 AM
They are legit and that's another thing why I left them, not only with the high fees but also with poor support. Before they are fine but I don't know why there's a sudden change of customer service. Blocking without any explanation? That is something unethical coming from a well known web wallet.

I have used Xapo before and they are legit in my opinion with the amount of technology improvement that have done on their site. But what made me left them was the high transaction fees which you are not even given the option as to whether to choose a lower fee for longer time and the likes.

Do not trust Xapo!

They haven't answered my emails for weeks. I have a wallet with bitcoins, they blocked my account with no explanation and I'm really worried they won't give them back. I have recommended this company to other people and I really regret because of the very poor service.

I'm alerting all my friends and I seriously recommend you check thoroughly before opening an account here.

They don't have a contact number, no address and if you have a problem, don't count on them to respond.

I found out through friends that they are in Argentina, but no address.

Does anybody know how to contact someone who can address my concerns and return my bitcoins?

If you want a copy of my correspondence with them, send PM and I'll gladly fwd the thread to you.

Matias K
The only option I see here is to call them out on social media if someone took your money without answering you to arrive at a compromise then they have thrown every bit of caution in the winds which why you also need to take that route to force an answer.
2295  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Explain the income in bitcoin ? on: December 01, 2017, 07:14:49 AM
This is a legal issue no one has been able to answer me about

If you win bitcoin with investment, it's easy to declare

What about bitcoins you earn from jobs  ( bounties, regular incomes for helping teams in moderation, etc.) ? It is a job and an income but in bitcoin, so how is it considered and declared?

I will try to put this based on my little understanding of investments and how funds is being earned via several means and at the same time link it to various form of tax within my jurisdiction.

Anything you do to earn money, you're to declare your income because every options you listed there can be likened to social media advertising or say digital advertising which is done on a large scale that some people also establish a company for and they are required to pay their tax on such income derived. However, as an individual, you pay a tax different from what a company would pay. In declaring, you can go the route of either self assessment or wait for government to come after you  depending on your country residence.
2296  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I have stolen bitcoin in yobit on: December 01, 2017, 05:42:38 AM
Hello,

Two days ago I had 8.2BTC stolen from my account on yobit.net. the account had activated the 2f and notices to my email when someone loguea and makes a withdrawl.

even so someone between two days ago, sold all my coins to BTC and made a withdrawl to a wallet which I have identified in blockchain explorer.

Does anyone know what else I can do? yobit's support service has not yet answered me and I do not understand how they can overcome all these security measures.
Times without number it's being said that don't leave your funds on an exchange site, you can claim you don't know about that and times without number you have chosen to ignore. Now, you are left to bear your losses no matter the level of security you have, 2FA or 3FA you are still exposed. It might even be an insider job as a way to look at it.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it. It has happened to me before but not to the extent of 8.2btc. I searched for answers but there is nothing to bring back my btc.
2297  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Coinbase Ordered to Turn Over Identities of 14,355 Cryptocurrency Traders > IRS on: November 30, 2017, 10:09:37 PM
And now it has happened which is what I have always maintained that coinbase does not have any option than to obey the law because doing otherwise would then mean that they are disobeying the law of the land which equally comes with its own consequences. This will set another tone for bitcoin in the United States that you either give government what its exactly its own, or it comes after you will the full force of the law in its arsenal.

This will equally come with a set back because people will start looking for ways out to convert their coins to fiat instead of using coinbase as the only option. Also, to those thinking that coinbase will not give them your information, right now, they don't even need your permission to release such.
2298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia says BTC will never be legalised - do you think we'll see a knock on? on: November 30, 2017, 08:43:57 PM
Nikolai Nikiforov stated: "Bitcoin is a foreign project for using blockchain technology, the Russian law will never consider bitcoin as a legal entity in the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation."

The article goes on to say:

"However, Nikiforov added that it is "quite possible" that Russia could consider using blockchain technology, as well as various digital tokens. However, he did not provide any context in which the technology might be utilized."

Do you think we'll see other countries going down this route?

Source: https://www.coindesk.com/russia-will-never-consider-bitcoin-legalization-says-minister/

We have seen several things that people and even governments have said there is no way it can be possible but today it is. In the last people have said that there cannot be robot to be equated with human beings, today a robot Sophia has been granted citizen status in far away Saudi Arabia that have been known to be more of a conservative country. The reason for this analogy is that policies can change without any repercussions due to current scenarios and demands.

Even the statement gave an open ended one which does not seal the news in the negative but left it open because of the possibility of doing otherwise and not to be seen as an hypocrite or a liar. So, with time, the acceptance of bitcoin will be known.
2299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining will consume all the world's electricity by Feb 2020 on: November 30, 2017, 07:24:54 PM
So what do you guys think ? According to this it will happen before the next bitcoin halving which is due in (12 Jun 2020)

https://www.dailysabah.com/finance/2017/11/27/electricity-used-in-bitcoin-mining-surpasses-power-consumption-of-159-countries

Reading through the article, its just a speculation of what will happen but the issue here is the possibility of that happening because it then means that if bitcoin takes the whole of the world electricity, then banks will not work, government functionaries will also not work which then means that the whole of our lives will be put on hold since I have not seen a generator that can sustain the whole of the country.

How then are we going to use the bitcoin mined if we cannot even charge our phones and gadgets. Its simply something I see not happening in 2020 or forever rather I see more alternative ways to mine bitcoin which the government would have stepped in to stop it being mined on pubic electricity which is what the Chinese government are considering if not implemented already.
2300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: None of you are financial experts, it's scary on: November 30, 2017, 06:35:23 PM

I've been following this forum for a few weeks now and I'm honestly shocked as to how little 95% you know about economics or finance in general.

The Bitcoin community is filled with young, uneducated, and over-excited children "playing" with digital currency/asset as a hobby.  None of you have the slightest clue as to how quickly the entire value of Bitcoin could be brought down to $0 in a matter of days.

Put aside your egos and "to the moon" mirages and think about the following.  How will Bitcoin react if:

1.) The US government starts to regulate it? Or ban it? (GASP!)
2.) Another exchange is found to be a fraud?
3.) A bank or government created it's own cryptocurrency that's legal and trusted?
4.) Bitcoin has trouble scaling and it take days or weeks for transactions to process?
5.) Mining is no long feasible or profitable?

I am hopeful that a cryptocurrency will emerge in the near future.  However, in my opinion, the issues above need to be addressed for any new cryptocurrency to even have a shot.

Save the "oMfG you're a N00B with 1 p0St" bullshit.  I am an active investor in many different markets and industries. I'm hoping to open some of your eyes and bring you back to reality.

You have pass your point across which is something I am happy about but I equly have some. issues against some of your submissions

1. The community is just like a normal conventional setting where people of different levels of education and background and we all have to compromise in other to be peaceful while those who chose to ignore are shown the way out. To now generalise is something that is wrong.  I have seen quite a number of people on the forum exert so much amount of intelligence that one begin to imagine the level of education they would have to possess such knowledge.

2. Come to think of it, I don't think I need to know about economics to understand how money works while I bother myself about the effectively power of bitcoin, let the economists worry about how to keep the forces of supply and demand at par as well as dishing out policies to that effect. This is also applicable to bitcoin.
