2321  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: May 05, 2013, 02:57:03 AM
In the long run, I'd like to have a server version that uses a real database.  By that, I mean a hardcore database with all the ACID robustness in it, to be run by those that really want to run a server.  Right now, I'm constrained by the requirement that the database I choose must be easy to distribute, run in isolation, and have a license agreeable with distribution with Armory.  LevelDB is a great choice for the end-user version of the software.  But for the server version, I can have something more heavyweight.  And I don't have much experience with that, so I wouldn't mind offloading that somehow. but definitely can't even think about it for a few weeks until after the conference.

This scares me a lot. The reason I like armory so much is that it was the closes thing to a full node we currently have for home users. I hope you can still keep it as much as to a trust-less system as possible.
2322  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: firstbits.com website down on: May 05, 2013, 02:52:28 AM
The current site owner no longer has interest in maintaining the site.  I am talking to him about taking it over and getting it back up and running!
That will be nice if you could get the site back up.

Firstbits are encouraging spamming the blockchain... So I think it is good it is gone.
How so?

Well the way a first bit is calculated is by it's place in the blockchain, so if an address isn't in the blockchain no firstbits can be correctly calculated.

So lets say for very example purposes I had 1gh356 and you had 1gh354 if you gets coins to your address before me, then you would have 1gh35, and I would get 1gh356, even if my address was created before yours. That is why it is a verifiable system.

2323  Other / Off-topic / Can we get feed wrangler to accept bitcoins? on: May 05, 2013, 02:03:56 AM
So feed wrangler is a google reader, that you have to pay ~$20 and I would glad pay that but I want to do so in bitcoins.

I emailed them this
Quote
I would gladly pay for feed wrangler and move my reader account there,
but I would like to do so with the internet currency bitcoins.

You can learn more about bitcoins at http://bitcoin.org/en/ and
http://weusecoins.org.

You can also quickly add support for it with services like
http://bitpay.com or run your own system with the bitcoin software.

I hope you consider this option, as a bitcoin community member for
over 2 years I would love to see this option!

Thank you for your time.

They responded,

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, we don't plan to add that feature right now.

[Name removed]

So yeah, this is basically a turn down... So maybe more people can email them and ask them to add it, power is with the people!

At the bottom is there email.

2326  Economy / Lending / Re: Escrow Question? on: May 05, 2013, 12:21:53 AM
As a "hero" member aint you suppose to be helpful? Surely you have all the wisdom and knowledge so why cant you just help people out?

I am being helpful, I never one time asked how to be more trustworthy, I just did a lot of things and one day, the forum deemed me trustworthy, and I did a couple escrows. So you can't just "become trustworthy" it just happens. Just like a friend, you can't force be friends with someone, it organically happens.
2327  Economy / Lending / Re: Escrow Question? on: May 05, 2013, 12:13:23 AM
How do you get involved in being an escrow? I would do the service, I am very trustworthy but obviously I need to prove that. But if people dont trust me to give me a chance then I will never gain trust haha!

Don't do it, no one will use you, wait until you have some ventures that prove your trustworthy.
2328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Lets have a forum Hackathon while bitcoin conference has their. on: May 05, 2013, 12:02:23 AM

2331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Rose is officially a Bitcoiner on: May 04, 2013, 04:55:29 PM
Pretty old news, heh.

How is it old news? Yes he did talk about bitcoins with Second lifer creator, but if you remember he said he reformatted his computer and lost them. He never said if he own any more and at that point. Now I am pretty sure he owns them and is becoming more of a fan getting back into them.

2333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Rose is officially a Bitcoiner on: May 04, 2013, 05:12:45 AM
Its only  matter of time before google checkout lets you use bitcoin. They would know paypal is considering it so might want to stay ahead of the curve.

I don't see this happening, remember google ventures and google are separate things. When google acquires a company it isn't done thru google ventures. So this would be for investment purposes only.
2334  Other / Meta / Can I have all non-english boards ignored for me. on: May 04, 2013, 03:28:20 AM
Almost every week a new non-english board is either created for a language or as a sub forum in an existing language. it is annoying to keep going to the profile and blocking it every time a new one is created. If I ignore the parent forum for that language it should inherently ignore the sub-forums.

Thank you.
2335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Rose is officially a Bitcoiner on: May 04, 2013, 01:24:33 AM
Eh.. No recollection of him.

Better go watch Cosmos again  Grin

Well Google Ventures has control of about $100 million a year, this is huge! So it more on that side then Kevin Rose is supporter of bitcoins.

I think this is great, this means that in turn Google Venture knows. Which means more capital in the bitcoin economy!
2337  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Foundation - Comments on the Coinlab/Mt Gox Lawsuit on: May 04, 2013, 12:17:30 AM
The Linux Foundation history of litigation has been made else where.

https://gist.github.com/gavinandresen/5509626

I'm not familiar with the history, but it can't be beneficial.

He is talking about the companies, and when you have 100's of companies yeah that is what happens. But when it is the first year of the foundation and their is a lawsuit, that isn't good. I love how they compare it to the linux foundation, but it is very different from the linux foundation. This is money, not an Operating system or just any piece of software. This is a currency and they are imploding on themselves.

2339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are VMs adequate for cold/cool wallets? on: May 03, 2013, 11:35:24 PM

So the gist I'm getting is that the host OS is well-secured against bad actions taken against the guest, but not vice versa. Unidirectional security in exactly the wrong direction  Undecided

Oh well, it was worth a shot. Guess I'll be buying a cheap netbook just to run Armory, although Armory seems pretty resource-intensive for them to recommend running the offline client on a netbook. Has anyone had first-hand experience with this?

The offline client isn't that intensive. Don't install windows, get Ubuntu, and 2gb of ram should be more then enough if your worried about the requirements.
