1442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the foundation doing for FBI to help bitcoin markets? on: January 08, 2014, 03:00:55 AM
When is the last time the US government has ever done the right economic thing intentionally? BF talking to the government is like a flock of sheep asking a pack of wolves not to eat them.

True but this is why the foundation is around, to protect bitcoins.

http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/07/the-silk-roads-libertas-is-free-to-the-annoyance-of-us-authorities/

So according to this article the FBI will start selling the the stash. If they sell it too fast they can crash the markets and hurt us very badly. So is the foundation doing anything to help this? This is a perfect place for the foundation to step in and give guidance on this situation. Otherwise lets hold on to our butts.

Oh, piffle!

If the sale causes a drop in price just buy the Hell out of it and wait for it to rise.

My $.02.

Wink

Ummm if it was only that simple, crashing the markets can hurt them for a lot longer than a regular crash remember people want cheap bitcoins and this could cause panic sellers to let lose.
1443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the foundation doing for FBI to help bitcoin markets? on: January 08, 2014, 01:56:17 AM
The FBI can make the decision all on their own, I have no idea why they would need to consult the bitcoin foundation.

The FBI can make their own decisions, but since the bitcoin foundation prides itself on protecting bitcoins, dumping of ~126,000BTC can hurt markets very badly. I know most people want this but there are smarter people that don't want this. This would be a great area for the foundation to stretch it's education to the FBI. It would be like United Emirates saying we not going to sell oil for a week, but no tell you. Won't the government go and talk to them about the issues it could cause, YES. The foundation should be doing this for bitcoins.

The discussion seems to be here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=404368.0

They are talking about the validation of the story, I am looking at what the foundation is going to do to help bitcoin markets out when this happens. At some point those funds will have two options delete the private keys or sell them. I want to know what the foundation is looking to do. They want to protect bitcoin well they should start protecting and educating the FBI on what they should be doing this amount of bitcoins.

I don't think they came to an agreement about this whole tainted coins problem. If they agree to ban stolen coins they should also do that with silk road stash as 1. it is drug money and 2. was stolen by the gov (confiscated means stolen in my dictionary).

This has nothing to do with tainted coins. This is about crashing markets.

I used this site very early on and actually still play the game I have from time to time.

Maybe if the op puts up a queue number, or a little work into the backend to show if they are backed up or estimated time, I think they can restore confidence. If op wanted to bounce ideas off me I would be open to talking and maybe guiding them a bit.

1447  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: 4 general questions to Armory on: January 07, 2014, 04:44:53 PM
1) Cause it knows how many addresses are in the watch-only wallet and using math can only come up with the public key not the private key.

2) Not the seed that can come up with private keys just the public keys.

3) No he would need the seed.

4) Nope

1449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ESCROW? on: January 06, 2014, 10:32:32 AM
I personally do not like dealing with an escrow service, but to each their own.

While I guess that would make you a scammer... Because you have no trust so how is someone suppose to trust you? Escrow that is how.
1450  Other / Meta / Re: VIP Member "goat" abusing trust rating system on: January 06, 2014, 04:58:03 AM

That was me. Theymos might agree to my claim but yeah, I find it highly unlikely that he would change my name to that.

This is clearly an unpopular system that has only helped people like Tradefortress to scam people out of millions. Time to either fix it, or end it.

Having something centralized on a bitcoin site is highly ironic.

Satoshi would be sad Sad

It probably will be tweaked as issues are found with it, but do keep in mind, the trust system was the most asked for feature for the forums. I've actually wondered how much having Tradefortress on the default trust list actually effected anything. He had like >200 Positive feedback left for him because he ran a long term successful Bitcoin business, all being on the default trust list did for him was made others trust the same people as him by default, it didn't give him a better score. Tradefortress didn't get any special power to his account directly from it. There are a lot of people on the default trust list who aren't as trustworthy as Tradefortress was statistically speaking. I'm on there because I give accurate feedback and am reasonably trustworthy, but in all honesty, Tradefortress had earned far more trust before the theft than I have. For example, if Bitpay was added to the default trust list, I don't think it would really effect people's perception of them, they are a successful business, whether they are on the default trust list or not, it would be a shock if they stole user's funds. Inputs.io is where Tradefortress got his reputation from, not from his ability to add others to the list of people who can leave "Trusted" feedback.

But, Theymos has said more than a few times the Trust system isn't perfect, so he should be completely open to ideas if you come up with any that are possible to program.

Plus you forgot the part where people paid TF to get on the list. So this is very skewed list.

I think the default list shouldn't exist. New people are easily swayed by it. It does more harm then good. I envision a trust system that uses GPG with a blockchain, every trust feedback cost 1 -2 cents to have it added, free to removed but it is never truly removed but removed from the overall score of someone. So you can see how the trust actually evolves, and the cost should get rid of spammers.
1451  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: PHP, jsonRPClient, bitcoind - Not able to pass multiple parameters on: January 05, 2014, 10:07:23 PM
Try using var_dump instead of echo. The output of getinfo() should be an array.

Code:
$bitcoin = new Bitcoin('bitcoinrpc','AJ2sa2cgGh2sVKUBuUCdALCcfNsM2VbLf37pmKEX7Xh3', '99.233.34.168','51337', 'http');
$bitcoin->full = true;
var_dump($bitcoin->getinfo());
var_dump($bitcoin->error);

Hey - I get a bool(false) with that PHP command.

Yes 0 in php means false, when not casted.
1452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Facebook testing Bitcoin payments??? on: January 05, 2014, 09:54:59 PM
Clearly fake. That is the worst cramming of a already made bitcoin image into an image to fit it. I but they just took chrome, used the dev tools and added that line.
1453  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: PHP, jsonRPClient, bitcoind - Not able to pass multiple parameters on: January 05, 2014, 09:51:38 PM
Did you add
Code:
allowip=<ip you are connecting from>

in your bitcoin.conf file.

PM me it, what kind of comedy? I am actually a pretty big jerky boys fan.

My style is like a mix of Jim Gaffigan, Daniel Tosh, Eddie Izzard. I like all sorts of comedy so I'm influenced by it all, Jerky Boys was a childhood favorite. Good old classic prank calls   Grin

Prank calls are the best. This is one of my favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L8FBSPAzvg (Furby Call) also I enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYuafUxjpk4 (Weed Man *Classic*)

I set my public key and it still didn't allow me to login.. does it take some time to propagate?

Nah you just need to reload your container. I added a note under the public key field and I'll make a complete how-to tonight for all this as I realize I need to make the setup more obvious.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, you're both getting the promo reward even if you don't start live trading. Send your btc address and I'll transfer the 10 mBTC. Smiley

Ok thanks that worked! and here you can just send it to the address in my sig. Thanks

I just get "Permission Denied (publickey)", or "Permission Denied (publickey,password)

You haven't set your public key in your account, it's under the Profile tab which is where all the bot's settings are located.

I set my public key and it still didn't allow me to login.. does it take some time to propagate?
