1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NYC Bitcoin Center - Opens on Wall Street - Jan 1st on: January 03, 2014, 07:08:41 PM
A group of bitcoin true believers, led by foundation member Nick Spanos, is opening a Bitcoin Center on 40 Broad Street in Lower Manhattan. The goal is to have a location in which interested people can come to be educated and integrated into the Bitcoin economy.

I just found this thread, and I was excited about this when I read about it, but now to find out that it is using the "foundation" name to either sound legit or to be a local chapter disappoints me. As a New Yorker who lives near this area and would have loved to spend a couple days a week in their learning, teaching and just working on new bitcoin stuff. I would have also donated my skills, time and money. The foundation is a horrible organization that just wants to hire scammers to lead it's anti-openness of information, so to be allow myself to be affiliated with such corruption, I just can't. This is a real shame, and I am probably more upset about this. I really hope this place would consider not using the foundation name to promote, or even work alongside it.

Before you write this off, as a troll or something of that sort, remember I been here for over a year, been in bitcoins over 2yrs, I know what I am talking about, and I would have loved to help in anyway.

EDIT: SimpleStats came back in 5774 seconds ... a little over an hour and a half... so I guess I need more memory or something.

Remember the blockchain is always growing, when Znort wrote this a while ago it was like 7 or 8gb now it is 14 or 15gb that is a lot to parse and keep in memory. So you don't need more memory it is just a lot of data.
1484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitnodes.io - Node Count Data Accuracy on: January 03, 2014, 06:07:32 PM
A) No, cause you don't have to mine if your running the node, plus we have pools so that skews the data.

B) The data their is only from FULL NODES connected to http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/'s node.

A) Is there a reason for non-mining nodes to remain active on the network for a meaningful duration of time, say > 1 hr?
B) I thought the numbers seemed a little low, but their site seems to imply they are estimating the size of the entire network.

Per the page: http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/
"Bitnodes is currently being developed to estimate the size of the Bitcoin network by finding all the peering nodes in the network."

A) Yes their is a huge reason! To relay transaction thru the network, without full nodes the security and health of the network would be greatly hurt!

B) They can't estimate but they can show you the information about the peers they are connected too. Which is what they are trying to do, is get connected to every peer which is very hard probably impossible.

Yes pools would be invisible you wouldn't know what is a pool node from a regular bitcoin full node.
1485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitnodes.io - Node Count Data Accuracy on: January 03, 2014, 07:10:47 AM

A) Can I safely say 1 node = 1 mining device?
B) Is the data posted there relatively accurate? There doesn't seem to be much noise on this website, I think its fairly new.
A) No, cause you don't have to mine if your running the node, plus we have pools so that skews the data.

B) The data their is only from FULL NODES connected to http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/'s node.
1486  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase hacked? on: January 03, 2014, 06:55:14 AM
Probably certificate issue and heroku is very famous for this. This is for sure not a hack, and I can tell you after watching many videos with coinbase's CEO he takes the toughest security processes from cold wallets storage with m-n scattered throughout the world.
1487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is the actual bitcoin algorithm on: January 02, 2014, 06:56:32 PM
1) Which algorithm bitcoin uses a couple?

2) Exactly that isn't exact science but that is what it is suppose to be happening, sometimes it takes a little longer or sometimes more blocks are produced in a short period of time.

3) https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty

4) We are currently a little more than half way.

5) Cause the code and nodes all have to agree to change that.

6) Cause the code and nodes all agree not to allow more than 21 million.
1488  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would anyone be up for once a week online poker tournament? on: January 02, 2014, 06:41:25 PM
I agree, Cubeia is great however unless you plan on purchasing the heavy duty commercial license... You can't customize anything. I went down this route to create a poker site and its a pain in the ass. Easy to set up but you need the commercial if you want to accept bitcoin and customize.. Thats from my experience. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way if you do get it setup I would partake.

edit: if you need help setting it up, let me know. I had to fumble with it a bit before it worked.

Yeah they told me for a license they wanted $4000 up front and 10% of my revenue so yeah, building this on my own is so much better.
1489  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would anyone be up for once a week online poker tournament? on: January 02, 2014, 04:44:09 AM
Some really cool updates and some bad news. Bad news first I really wanted to launch this site for january 1st obviously didn't do that. So for the good news, for the next week or two I will be putting my head down and just finishing this thing. It is pretty much done, just that their are some bugs that cause weird things to happen and the poker server crashes. I did allow some selected people to play on the site (just my dev server, using a service to forward it to the public, so it can't hold a full on beta test) they enjoyed it and really had fun.

Now for some FAQ questions answered that are either pmed or emailed to me.
Q: Is this just poker mavens software packaged again?
A: No diss to the other poker sites, but poker mavens software is great for a small home table game, this will be all custom. I am looking to give people a better experience. Like I wanted but was unable to find. I am on a mac so downloading software was always just for windows, and poker mavens is a horrible interface. I am aiming to make this easy to use and easy to setup for future people using this.

Q: Will this be open sourced?
A: At some point the client will be opened sourced so people can hack on it, make it bigger and better. Then the server, but this is very far down the road.

Q: Can people apply for the license to run their own instance of this software?
A: Yes, and people have already just understand that there's currently no price set and this could take around 6 months to get it to that point.

Q: Can you give us a framework of how the software operates?
A: The client and site use php, with jquery to make it real time of what games are open and tables are running and tournaments that are about to begin. It has a custom written java websocket server that is the middle man for all the games. I view the client as just a portal to the game, it doesn't do any heavy lifting.

Q: Are you working on this to be provably fair?
A: Yes! I want this to be the first poker site to be provably fair, is this going to happen in the first release no, but I already have a design for it.

Q: What will be the rake?
A: Rakes haven't been set yet, but they will be low, this venture isn't really out to make a lot of money. It is just that I can't find good poker software. I do have a time length that I want this site to be breaking even, and pay for it's own servers but that is my job and I know how to do that Wink.

Q: Were you contacted by another poker site in Las Vegas, that was interested in bitcoins? << Not a real question that I was asked. Just news I threw in Wink
A: Yes I was, they saw my post and actually had a meeting with me, and I was able to demo it. I explained bitcoins to them they were interested, we also talked about other players in the space. They unfortunately due to the legal grey area didn't really want to endorse what I am doing, but were interested in bitcoins. I had an amazing talk about how bitcoin can really change the shape of poker and bankrolling.

So that is the end of this bit of news. Remember follow the twitter by going to http://dryaces.com
1490  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: max addresses supported by a single wallet on: January 01, 2014, 04:56:09 PM
i'm sorry to bring this old thread back.

any update with the latest bitcoind? any significant issue when bitcoind has 100k or more accounts/addresses? thanks

No issues, 100k addresses are nothing compare to most sites and people. So don't worry.

1492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are their no big bitcoin business in NY? on: December 31, 2013, 06:52:23 AM
http://mobile.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-01/lawsky-says-so-be-it-if-transparency-dooms-bitcoin.html

NY is a particularly tough regulatory environment. Their Dept of Financial Services is overly aggressive.

It's going to take far more time to get Wall-St integrated bitcoin businesses up and running in NY, due to the regulatory hurdles, but it'll happen eventually.

Yeah I agree NY is hard to get anything done in the regulatory but someone has to have the connections.
1493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are their no big bitcoin business in NY? on: December 31, 2013, 06:45:19 AM
For anyone else that was looking for it, here is the FB page https://www.facebook.com/NYCBitcoin

If the NYC Bitcoin Center people find this post some how... Please make a site, I will even donate my skills as a programmer to build for you. I don't use Facebook for obviously reason and your website redirects to it!

Second people get the word out about this! I am up on a lot of current bitcoin news and this slipped past me, also by the pictures it doesn't look like it got out to many people! I am stealing a quote from Charlie Sherm (well paraphrasing his ideas) NYC is on the front lines of banks and wall street, exactly what sectors that leaded to the birth of bitcoins. This Center should be in every bitcoin forum, every bitcoin news outlet, just everywhere. It is over 9 days and I am just finding out about this now!

Also it be nice to see who is involved with this?

P.S.S Please don't be like the foundation, be open embrace everyone and sharing of information!

Sorry for this crazy post but I am just super excited about these things!
1494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are their no big bitcoin business in NY? on: December 31, 2013, 06:10:09 AM
well the bitinstant site page is completely offline, sure to be many more business starting up especially with the coin site opening up round the corner from wallstreet

Link to this wall street startup? I haven't heard about this.
1495  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is bitinstant really dead? on: December 31, 2013, 05:50:34 AM
Literally as soon as they got all the expensive state licensing they needed to be fully legal - their banking partners shut them down.

I've also heard rumours of a criminal investigation for them not following the March FinCEN guidance before it was issued.

Pretty much they are dead.

I knew the banking partners shut them down, but seriously Winklevoss twins don't have pull to get them into a bank? WOW

These rumors their would be no links to back them up I am guessing?
1496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why are their no big bitcoin business in NY? on: December 31, 2013, 05:48:36 AM
We have a few hosting companies, coinsetter, and now defunct bitinstant. I am really surprised that more and more startups aren't popping up in NY.
1497  Economy / Service Discussion / Is bitinstant really dead? on: December 31, 2013, 05:44:25 AM
I just visited their site and I wanted to see if it had any updates but it is blank...

Kinda sad, I used to use bitinstant a lot to cash out was hoping they come back.
1498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accredited investors starting to get interested in BTC.. on: December 31, 2013, 05:36:06 AM
My father is a private wealth planner.  Over the past couple months I have been hearing his clients calling into him and asking him about BTC.  Usually ends up with me getting on the phone with them and going over everything.  They for the most part have all been super positive when asking about BTC, but have some general questions and misconceptions.

My question is where is a good place to find the more technical info about bitcoin?

That is the part that I really can't  obviously explain.  Most of these clients are engineers and business owners, so they are pretty much not "day 1" material types.  Anyway, the good part is that if clients are calling in and wondering to get in, there must just be tons of cash that isn't in BTC that will be very soon.  As soon as someone in the USA comes up with a legit exchange that doesn't suck is the time BTC will take off.  Just my opinion from some observations as of late.  There must be a large list of high net worth individuals that are in the same situation.

You should keep track of people that ask about bitcoins I be interested in that data just curious.

I would point them to coinbase, which isn't an exchange. But I have a feeling coinsetter which is in private beta will be the USA exchange that will blow the doors off exchanges, they are trying to raise ~$1 million in VC.

1499  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't feel bad newbies - Early adopter without many Bitcoins on: December 30, 2013, 06:06:44 AM
Wait so you are jealous cause someone came up with a good idea and sold it for a profit? LMAO glad you don't control many bitcoins cause jealousy is a horrible trait to have. Also Satoshidice has brought much press in the early days. Plus Erik is an amazing entrepreneur, he has a couple great ideas. Coinapult and feedzebirds are doing great things in the bitcoin community.
