2341  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon batch 3 ROI on: August 03, 2013, 02:43:49 PM
Here is an adjusted ROI if you were to get a 3 Module Avalon online today.
At the present network difficulty and an increase of 19% every 12 days your expected return in BTC is 79 before it becomes unprofitable.

The online document can be found here. It has Avalon, KNC, Bitfury, and BFL top hardware solutions in its estimated projected returns.

Has anyone tried 375mhz air cooled?

I've been running at over 24 hours stable at 350mhz (105Gh-120Gh), and I'm getting that itch to try and bump it up a little more. I'm not sure if Avalon changed something to make it more stable overclocked or not and wondering you batch 1/2 guys experience with pushing over 350mhz.

I've been considering the best way to determine a sweet spot for my avalon...  currently running at 343 (it just "feels" like a nice balance between hashrate and HW errors), but now I'm getting that overclocking itch once again.

I'm trying to devise a method that is slightly more scientific than my gut feel. Perhaps it could even be integrated into some kind of algorithm that could be added to the firmware to improve the auto speed setting? I don't know if that's even possible. Also I'm not really sure what a lot of the numbers mean in the web interface cgminer status tab, so I'm just guessing at a lot of this. Corrections to my assumptions/mistakes would be appreciated.

So, I'm just guessing at what all those numbers really mean, but here's what I'm thinking.

if:
HW = Hardware errors
Diff1Shares = equivalent number of shares if submitting at difficulty 1 (not sure whether to use this or DiffA ? )
MHSav = MH/s average

then:
EHR = Effective Hash Rate = MHSav - ( MHSav * ( HW / Diff1Shares ) )

So, what I'm gonna do is just keep increasing or decreasing my Frequency until I can find maximum EHR. Makes sense?

DiffA is what work you get paid for as in accepted shares.
2343  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CloneBox Project - House your existing, or newly built, Avalon unit, with STYLE on: July 24, 2013, 11:54:09 PM
Hello everyone,

I have spent some spare time designing and coming up with a new design for Avalon's existing batch 1 and 2 designs, since, in my opinion, Avalon's case design is good engineering-wise, but design-wise, quite unfulfilling.

I want to check with the community and see if there sufficient interest for such a product, and I have contacts with many local suppliers that could be able to build these with a 3-4 week lead time approximately.

I am a full-time professional industrial designer and have worked on a wide variety of products, ranging from kitchen and wine accessories, toys, furniture, transportation and much, much more.

Here are a few images for you guys to ponder :

http://www.3dpxl.com/clone/highrez/ High resolution pictures available here.

Front view.

Rear view.

Side view.

Interior.

Exploded view of all components.

Overall dimensions, in millimeters.

Some key features : The chassis is built from two sheets of steel (or stainless steel, to be determined), and has custom-made machined aluminum faceplate. You would receive the chassis and simply take your existing Avalon PCBs, cables, components, and screw them in place. The case is a little wider than Avalon's current design - but the advantage here is having the ability to mount this chassis in a standard rackmount space.

There are still a few details to iron out, but I would say 90% of the job is done and, depending on the reaction I receive here, I will ask suppliers to provide quotes for 20, 50, or 100? of these and check back here with you guys.

In the event that I do start a crowd sourcing project for this I will gladly accept Escrow payments, and provide sufficient information to verify my identity to JohnKay or any person of authority on these forums.

If there isn't much interest for an Avalon chassis, I am also open to hear from you if you would rather have a Klondike housing, Burnin housing, or BitFury ?

Cheers.

I like the professional looking solution this brings to the product line. I wonder if someone might be able to use it for their "clone" projects.
2344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: www.bitcoinza.com - BitFury Asic Units! on: July 23, 2013, 05:30:33 PM

Please note our goal is not to undercut other asic manufacturers. But our goal is to stay competitive with prices for the international market. Plus giving our local community the option of getting an asic without having to pay the extra Import tax. And on top of that, we will be helping the South African and African bitcoin Foundation with funding and assistance where we can, and also providing them with monthly support. That is why we say, For the community, By the Community Smiley

Great effort and nice to see local support for this ASIC product.
2345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 23, 2013, 02:45:43 PM
I have the opportunity to upgrade my Saturn for $3500 and really not sure what to do. It is already pumping 400G/H/s which isn't bad for my first miner. If money wasn't an issue I'd probably just go ahead and do it.

Has anyone else upgraded their units with their upgrade packages or just kept the same?

Other then buying a new Jupiter, upgrading a Saturn order seems like the most cost-effective way to increase your hashrate.  No one knows what the difficulty will look like in Sept/Oct through. There's going to be raw Avalon chips, Bitfury, etc plus possibly dark projects hitting the network by then. Anyway we have until august to decide.

Well you can go here for a reference. Basic idea is if the network increases on average of 20% in difficulty then that is a 12 day difficulty run.

Now that is assuming the network difficulty is at 64 million  as an increase of 20% would be by September.  However the Avalon tab is updated with present and future expected network difficulty. The average past increase of the network difficulty is 17.4%.

Consider that other miners are putting hardware online by September/October. By then 20% increase seems low we may see a 30% increase for a few rounds of 10 day runs perhaps normalizing in December.

Please remember that this is speculation on known facts. This exercise is an attempt to manage risk.

Just got mine up and running, i was happy i checked it before running it. there was a lose screw in there from the fpga board. found a second one that was not tight too.
PsychoticBoy beat me to the pic.

Here is a link to the document I updated with your expected BTC returns.

Check the Avalon Tab at the bottom.

I recommend using Google Chrome for it.

3M Thermal Management  fluids kinematic viscosity charts

I was considering using this to cool Bitfury 400 units and mount them vertical.

Its sounds like a fun experiment.   Have you visited these forums? 3m-novec-7000-group  They have posted  data and some conclusions on using Novec cooling fluids for servers and other electronic devices.

I am looking into a solution like this to expand my present setup.

Below is a pump and heat exchanger that moves heat outside so it can be dissipated by chillers.

Foofighter looks nice Smiley some people have suggested a few options on your OP. But that is a great start.
2350  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will Avalon Batch 3's ever make ROI? on: July 13, 2013, 05:17:24 PM
Not totally sure if I'm using http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit properly but it seems to me ROI should be expected after around 100 days (in my case).

Anyone see this nice Bitcoin difficulty predictor? Looks like October might bring a difficulty over 100 million!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmXn4BnLUgYsdEF0TUtWUWtUaUUzR1F2aUhEWW9lN2c#gid=0
I can't imagine pre-ordering for October at the same price and Gh as August. Again 25Gh orders further out should be cheaper as with the 400Gh model.

Here is a revised sheet with product lifetime profits at today's prices and an Aug difficulty of 64 Mill on the manufacturers top end hardware

I have updated the document to have multiple sheets along with Comparison between Multiple ASIC Hardware Vendors Vs Difficulty Sheets.

P.S.  Fox.... apologies.

thats the worst attempt to block your order numbers. hahahaha

+1 Cheesy

For now I would just update the photo using simple program mspaint if your on windows and put a white square over the text you wish to hide and then replace the spot with an X or *

For those of you planning heatsinks, Intron provides a good reference.

PS: You are looking thru the board from the top side.
Don't make the 'mirror error' too often made:) --Intron

I noticed a bit late, forgot PCB layer 3 and 4 was on the other side.

Thanks again.

I cracked it! Hitting 120GH on a 3 module now Cheesy

Surely you're pulling our leg. Smiley 450 is the max clock rate which puts a 3 module somewhere around 100GH. If not, do spill your secret.
Spent all of yesterday going through the firmware code, there is a trick people are missing. Uses some information from the github as well.

Post something like this please Smiley

Accepted Shares after 5 days.
8257580 / 7209.39 =1145.39 accepted shares a min or 68723.539 accepted shares per hour.

2358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open on: July 08, 2013, 04:22:34 AM
I do wonder if the setup instructions, provide cooling info. No mention of fans in the description.

We undervolted the boards for heat & power considerations.  No heatsinks are necessary, though we do expect supplemental fan cooling to be necessary - they put off about 250 - 300w fully loaded, so yeah you need to blow air on them.  We didn't see the need for extensive heatsinks and individual fans that just add cost, maintenance and noise.

I notice the the PCB's in the photo are 2 layers. Avalon PCB's are 4 layers giving more copper to grab the heat.

Do you know if you plan on OCing these units at all?

Edit: Never Mind they are 4 layers.

From what I can tell there is no room to install a heatsink as it seems they will be stacked close together once the H-CARD are attached to the M-CARD.

FYI I ordered an Aug device.
