Relaunch ETA ~24-48h. Thank you for your patience!

Sigh... it has been over 48 hours, and still nothing. At least give a more honest or realistic ETA so we can plan accordingly.

I had a feeling a while back he would be invited to be a mod based on his posts. Congrats Smiley
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A theft solution? on: January 08, 2015, 12:08:37 AM
OP, you mean for the better, but you haven't though about the other implications. A few has been brought up already. Another one is accountability. Any time some BTC are hacked or stolen, someone has to be held accountable for them and eat the loss, whether it's the exchanges or the depositors. You can't just "burn" the coins and call them useless.
244  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara Physical Bitcoins/HAVEN: Update on: January 07, 2015, 07:54:47 PM
I didn't see this thread until now. I ordered sometimes in August, didn't receive until late November. A little long for the shipping, but the coin turned out great. Hands down the most beautiful physical coin I've seen.

Snapped a few pics when I had it:

Oh so this is where the Kialara coins came from. I purchased one for someone to reship international. Took several months to get to me, and there was a shipping error, but Max took care of everything and in the end everything worked out great.

Didn't realize the thread was here.

Assuming ID is real, someone scams you from the other side of the world. Then what?
247  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [BITSTAMP] Hot wallet problems, stop making bitcoin deposits IMMEDIATELY on: January 07, 2015, 09:49:58 AM
WTF is this.... I've been out for a couple days, came back to make some trades, and see their website is completely suspended. I'm getting the mtgox deja vu. I've got a hefty sum of both BTC and fiat on there  Angry

As if price haven't dipped low enough, this incident will most likely further dip the price, and I can't even move whatever BTC for fiat stuck on there...

Wow man that sucks. Why would you keep a heft sum of btc and fiat on the exchange?

I don't purposely store on there, but rather people that actively trade don't really have a choice. Wiring fiat takes a day or more, and depositing BTC requires 6 confirmations. I can't sit around for an hour just waiting when I need instant trades.
248  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: trading: Vanilla, Moneypak, Reloadit, Paypal MyCash - for BTC on: January 07, 2015, 03:00:07 AM
Bought a few more reload packs, OP updated for availability of these: two Vanilla, reloadit (already reserved), paypal mycash, all $500 amounts.

Bitstamp has been down for the past few days, so I'm temporarily trading for BTC-e current rate.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am the poorest early adopter in the world on: January 07, 2015, 12:11:51 AM
I was mining on my laptop running Windows XP), I was only able to generate 75,000 satoshis:

I must be the poorest early adopter in the world. Sad

Mining on a laptop in 2011 is already too late. That's when everyone was mining on the HD5000 or HD6000 GPUs. The real early adopters mined on CPUs. Now if you would have bought a couple of those GPUs and built a desktop, then you would have been better off by now.

And I'd like to mention that just because someone is an early adopter doesn't mean they're rich. I'm willing to bet most are actually poor, as these guys sold off a while ago.
250  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp: Less than 19,000 BTC lost !!! on: January 06, 2015, 11:31:24 PM
My question is why are so many people leaving funds on exchanges like they're banks? We all know this is a possibility.

I see this mentioned all the time. Sure it's easy to just say "DON'T LEAVE BTC ON THERE", but when someone actively trades on an exchange, there's no other way. You need BTC or fiat readily available in case of an unexpected dip or jump in price. It takes about an hour for bitsamp to credit your account if you deposit BTC (6 confirmations), so depositing funds right when you see a dip is already too late.
251  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to make a profit selling BTC? on: January 06, 2015, 10:47:30 AM
Sell it Bitstamp +5% at Localbitcoins using non-reversible payment methods (western union, moneygram, cash deposits in your bank, etc...)

Nothing is non-reversible when it comes to fiat. It's only a matter of how difficult.
252  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: buying moneypak in bulk on: January 06, 2015, 08:45:10 AM
can buy buy upto 50k moneypak codes .... i am ready to use middleman service also ..

i am new to this forum but not in this market doing exchange for last 5 years so scammers stay away.

These two lines sound exactly like segvec when he first started out on this forum a few months ago flipping reloadable cards.
253  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Issues with Bitstamp on: January 05, 2015, 10:06:56 PM
Already several threads on this. Site was down since last night until they can assess and/or resolve it. I'm still waiting for it to come back to do my usual trading.
254  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB $10 in BTC for $20 Mailed Cash on: January 05, 2015, 10:03:04 PM
I'd be willing to make this exchange for you. Send me a PM with the logistics and your wallet address, I'll reply with my mailing address. PGP communication would be best if you know how to do that.
255  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Wanted Reloadit for BTC ($600) on: January 05, 2015, 09:57:08 PM
You know I'm still waiting for you to send since the transaction from last week. But now I see you making a new thread...
256  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinfire Bitstamp update on: January 05, 2015, 10:49:34 AM
Looks like we don't have to worry about bitstamp
Since they already secure customers to cold wallet

This is probably true, although there's no proof that this isn't just an excuse for another severe problem or loss.
257  Other / Meta / Re: Replacing DefaultTrust on: January 05, 2015, 10:32:19 AM
It has been mentioned already, but I see this new system only slightly better than DefaultTrust, but not by much. The trust gap between those 30 people and the rest of the forum members will widen over time.

Newbs can't just arbitrarily trust someone they haven't done transactions with or read enough posts to determine who to trust. If they're being forced to pick someone, they'll just pick these "default" suggested 30 people. In principle, see how this is not much different than the current DefaultTrust list? These 30 people will get free boosts without actually having to do anything, they're just simply riding on their preexisting reputation.

260  Other / Meta / Re: Who is the best poster of 2014 ? on: December 30, 2014, 08:45:08 PM
Dank is a banned user, and many people have voted for him already. I must say, his posts are entertaining, but should not be taken seriously.

You mean people levitating and music festivals fixing first-world-problems won't happen? Say it ain't so...  Cry

My vote also goes to Dank
