2441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moderators to clean up Chinese spammers in "Market" on: March 19, 2011, 04:28:56 PM
I've already talked to a few of the posters. Mods, please wait to move the posts for another day or so, I need to get screenshots to use as examples of good, bad and shameful.

I think by Monday the posts could be moved to a subforum temporarily, and then after a few months can be pretty much forgotten.
2442  Economy / Economics / Re: Too many mics not enough MCs - the drop in BTC value on: March 19, 2011, 04:25:32 PM
Its from an increase in supply of bitcoins with a paralell decrease in demand  Tongue

But seriously its a lack of goods or services.
2443  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Want to earn a few bitcoins? Translations wanted! on: March 19, 2011, 03:41:26 PM
You've got elvish in there, but then also list two elvish dialects, WTF, make some sense man.
2444  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: About all the posts from Chinese with poor Engrish on: March 19, 2011, 03:38:02 PM
Alright, so I have sent messages to most of the students who have been posting on the forum the last couple of days(just using the forum, I will send a general email tomorrow) thelling them to stop for the moment.

I apologise for the anoyance, but a lot of that is due to their poor English and pure lazyness. One thing for certain is that we can expect a lot of begging like activity such as this to happen once there is a significant takeup of bitcoin.

I'm going to have the students learn from what has happened here over the last couple of days. Get them to move away from begging and actually offer something.

Some good ideas that have come up is:
Chinese cook book
Chinese music selection(something decent and not just a few songs)
Chinese lessons.
I will have them go away and work on those for one or two weeks and come back with an actual decent product.

Other obvious ones are the translation services(although I would be careful with these, anything translated into Chinese should have the original English put through Google translate and compare the two, reject if both are the same, i.e. they used google translate, this is lazy and they should not be paid)

A clever one I think was offering photoshop services. OK most people on the bitcoin forums are quite technical but not evervyone can have PS skills. Its not one I had thought of.

And the jokes, This is something that had not crossed my mind, I'll have them put together a joke book with Chinese style jokes.

Thank you everyone for your patience, the next round (in a couple of weeks) with the improved products or services I think will actually make the forum a more vibrant place.

And finally, once this has all finished I will make as much information about the whole project available for anyone interested to have a look at. Its certainly something I will try next academic year in more formalised manner.

silence, outing, you can relax. There is no need to apologise for anything said. Some people here are wondering why are there so many Chinese students trying to do business, all from the same place.

grondilu, thats actually a great idea, hahaha( evil laugh ). But seriously, any bitcoin they earn is theirs, they must only return the capital( a massive 2btc) that I have given each group by the end of the exercise.

2454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moderators to clean up Chinese spammers in "Market" on: March 19, 2011, 01:11:00 PM
Perhaps adding a temporary sub-forum, just for the Chinese students to post in, I understand that their posts might be....spamish, in the way they are written, or with what they offer, this is primarily to do with their poor English.

They are trying to offer real goods and services for bitcoin though so they have just as much a right to be here as anyone else.

It should also be noted that this is not a single person or account doing this, but multiple ones, which I can tell you are different people.

I think it should also be taken into account that this will not be continuing for much longer (I think 2-3 weeks at most).

I'm open to suggestions, really I'm the best one to deal with this as they do what I say, rather than giving the moderators more work.

Ideas?
2455  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: About all the posts from Chinese with poor Engrish on: March 19, 2011, 12:24:19 PM
Nefario, please don't take it wrong, but what about you teach them english as you are supposed to do, instead of forcing them to sell themselves on the web for bitcoins?

Hahahaha, you make me sound like a digital pimp.

The point of the exercise is to use their English to complete a task, it's called task orientated learning, learning by doing. You can see how poor their English is, this is because they focus on passing tests. So they are good at passing tests, but can't use their English to communicate even basic things.

This forces them to USE English, which as you can see most of them have never done.
2456  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Wonderful Chinese on: March 19, 2011, 04:25:46 AM
Ok, I just received the picture, even though it doesn't have a bitcoin address in it, it looks real enough that I decided to go ahead and pay the 5 btc. You should receive it within the next hour.

He looks way too nice to be an evil professor though. Maybe he works for him.  Wink

EDIT: here is your transaction info: http://blockexplorer.com/t/54xR4sLtNW

Now I must find you and kill you to protect my secret identity, my student too.
2457  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Chat rooms on: March 19, 2011, 04:09:05 AM
It would  be better if you have QQ . if you haven't ,we can contact each other by  E-mail

1 hour for 1 BTC , 2 hour for 1.5 BTC . Really looking forward to become the friend with you oh !

watch this end up becoming bitcoins first killer app

I hope not, I could get in trouble if that is the case  Tongue

outing, maybe you can use meebo to chat with people using gmail, aol, msn and others https://www.meebo.com/

I suggest you use it instead of trying to make your customers use QQ(QQ is in Chinese, it's not easy to use if you can't read Chinese)

2459  Other / Off-topic / Re: Micro startup/investment class project/experiment in China on: March 18, 2011, 10:43:20 PM
Yes, don't make it too easy on them. Essentially you can pay them very little, certainly don't give them something for trying.
