2441  Other / Off-topic / Re: SSDs anyone? on: September 02, 2012, 12:52:50 AM
I've never really bothered with SSD's in my rigs, never really seen the point. I'd rather just save money and have a high end HDD. With the prices of SSD's lowering though... that may just change.
When you try your first one, you will wonder why the hell you didn't do it earlier.

Yep, you'll slap yourself for not doing it sooner.

I wonder if the 22/23 accounts paid are just the same ones from a couple weeks ago, think there was like 800 paid out to a few minor accounts
2443  Other / Off-topic / Re: SSDs anyone? on: September 01, 2012, 11:58:26 PM
Go with a Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. They are currently the best SSDs for their prices.
They perform really well, are reliable, and don't take performance hits on non-compressible data.

I agree with this, I went to SSDs a few months ago and was down to these two after some research, went with the 830 when it went on sale at Newegg, which they do all the time.

I'm so glad I went with SSDs too, it really saves a lot of time having to wait x seconds every time you want to open something. It adds up.

Looks like he's hoping to misdirect the attention and shift the blame to others, the PPT OPs aren't to blame here, he is. He had absolutely no problem taking money from payb.tc, goat, and others, but now he has a problem with giving them back?

"Sorry guys I tried to give you your money back but evil PPT and GLBSE wouldn't let me, so you can blame any further delays on them"

Hi, Zyk.  Your posts do NOT make me LOL.  I think aspirin sales are up big time, maybe even 7%/week since you have been posting to this thread.

Can I just give you all my money?
2446  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - low risk, dank soul guarantee - 2.0%-3.0% weekly on: September 01, 2012, 06:29:21 AM
I mean I find the idea of >3% per week profits to be hard to believe but pages and pages and pages of attacking him?

At least it was on topic  Wink.

Probably a pretty common name?

Better watch out Gage might tie you into this somehow.  Wink
2448  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - low risk, dank soul guarantee - 2.0%-3.0% weekly on: August 31, 2012, 08:48:51 PM
That's true, I'd be willing to meet someone for the right amount.  But there is no one on this forum I really trust.  Wait a second, except senbonzakura.  That's it.  I wouldn't mind showing him ID.

So there's no reason for you to trust anyone, but they should trust you with their money because you say so?
2449  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - low risk, dank soul guarantee - 2.0%-3.0% weekly on: August 31, 2012, 07:17:50 PM
I'll refrain from making comments based on that alone, but I will say it doesn't make you low risk.
Did I say it did?  It doesn't make me a high risk either.  Trust me when I say I will not default on my investors, or not, but don't make claims that I'm at high risk of defaulting based off nothing.

Dank Bank defaulting would mean one of two things happens; I make the egocentric decision to steal everyone's money, which won't happen because I wouldn't allow (nor want) myself to do that.  Or I default by losing all of my money and everything I have built so far this year, which won't happen because I wouldn't let myself make decisions to put me in that situation.

It's really not that complicated, Dank Bank defaulting is bad business for me, so why would I let that happen?  I'm on track to reach my goals now, I have a plan, it's been working out fine, so why would I change what I have going for me?

Nobody wants to default. Just plugging your ears and saying "It can't happen because I won't let it", is naive and shows you have no idea what you're doing. Good entrepreneurs can identify their strengths and weaknesses and use it to their advantage, not just ignore and plunge ahead taking money from anyone who's dumb to give it to you with promises of totally being a millionaire and a rock star. Showing people you are aware of potential problems and have a backup plan is going to get you much more confidence in your abilities than "Can't happen won't let it".

Your family doesn't understand you and won't loan you money, your friends won't loan you money (how"rich" they are shouldn't matter since your stated minimum deposit is ~100 bucks), and you have very minimal success on an anonymous basis on an internet forum. There's one constant among all these situations, you. Might want to evaluate that while you're still young.

why is the price going up again? did I miss something?

Supposedly a modest number of accounts (22 at the moment, claims a script on IRC) have been paid something back.  It's not very clear from where I'm sitting, but there seems to be some renewed hope out there that the debt isn't totally worthless.
Any word on how much is being paid back? I assume in full at this point (if everyone's gettining excited about it)?

I wouldn't get your hopes up, there's not even any confirmation anyone has been paid back yet. The only person who has said anyone has been paid back is Pirate. And his word is worthless since he has broken it several times in the past few weeks.

2453  Other / Off-topic / Re: Matthew is renigging on his bet. He doesn't recognize Pirate's debt to Goat. on: August 31, 2012, 02:33:43 PM
I thought matthew had already lost his bet...

Quote from: Hexadecibel

Quote from: Matthew N. Wright
If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% without agreement to investors, -that- is fraud and a failure to pay back. I would obviously lose the bet.
If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% but the investors agreed to it, -that- is the agreement and therefor he has paid it back. I would win the bet.
If he owes 100% and pays back 100%, I would win the bet.
If he owes 100% and does not pay anything anything back, I would lose the bet.

but then:

Quote from: Matthew N. Wright
Post in this thread how much you're committing and I will double that amount you commit (maximum of 10,000BTC in bets allowed in this thread total) if Pirate does not pay out in 3 weeks as he described in his thread.

And pirate's thread:

Quote from: Pirateat40
When will I get my coins?
Starting Monday I’ll begin systematically closing and withdrawing accounts as coins are transferred.  I don't expect the entire process to last longer than a week. The moment your account is closed you’ll receive your coins plus any interest accrued up to the hour it was sent.

By this criteria Matthew has lost the bet. Pirate has admitted default and interest is no longer accruing which is in breach of the terms. QED.

Under the terms of the bet, pirate has until 9 September to pay the investors 100% of what they are owed or an alternative amount agreed to by the investors.  However certain it might seem that pirate will do neither, the date was set in the original bet and there's no reason to require Matthew to pay out before that time.

I concur, it does look like he lost and there's really no way to win but might as well stick to the deadline.
2454  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - low risk, dank soul guarantee - 2.0%-3.0% weekly on: August 31, 2012, 02:24:33 PM

Fuck banks, I don't have rich friends, and my family doesn't understand me either, tough position.  It'd be nice if I could get a single loan instead of Dank Bank, but it seems there is too much paranoia when it comes to loaning to dank.

If you can't even get your friends and family to loan to you, what does that say about you?
2455  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative types of spam on: August 31, 2012, 02:12:03 PM
What do you think of sticking them in "games and rounds"?

Forgot all about that subforum, it fits pretty well (games involving the forum). And doesn't require anyone changing their posts.

Edit: I moved this to Meta from the Staff forum so more people can have their say.
2456  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: August 31, 2012, 01:50:37 AM
Is any thread safe from being hijacked with this pirate nonsense?

Do you even have to ask?
2457  Other / Off-topic / Re: SuckerCoin on: August 31, 2012, 01:33:29 AM
Please don't hyperlink scam websites.

Not a scam webaite exactly, although the typo in the url ("bnak") would make you think so. Seems to be a completely unprotected electronic currency relying on a "a self-policing feature for users to red flag questionable advertisements or products" (from a related website, oswift<dot>com).

Very strange.

I didn't click on it, just figured from the url. That is...strange.

And to the OP, I just meant don't make a clickable link.

Zhou must have made another donation to the forum - this thread has been "mothballed" and there is now no active thread on general discussion about his $500,000 theft.   Undecided

There wasn't active thread in general before I moved it either  Wink. I'm sure people will be more than happy to make a bunch of new threads when something moves forward.

I wish somebody would pay me for moving all the service related discussions, I'm gonna get carpal tunnel.
2460  Other / Off-topic / Re: The pirate ponzi fiasco on: August 30, 2012, 11:54:50 PM

I think I just have a different set of security assumptions than you do.

It is not about security, it is about trust.

Luckily, being a member is voluntary and no one forces anyone to join and sent PMs.

This is true, if I know I am agreeing to this.

Even if you trust theymos, there are 3 other admins, the servers are hosted by Mt Gox, and there's always the possibility of hackers and subpoenas which trust won't save you from. Posting private information (especially if it could incriminate certain people, since we're talking about Pirate that's possible) in plaintext on a forum, pm or not, is asinine. If you value your privacy that much you should take steps to ensure it yourself.
