2521  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: We have the right tools but many don't know how to use them on: December 26, 2021, 06:36:47 AM
Coinmarketcap and coingecko are enough to solve scam problems
Those platforms can only give credible information on different coins and tokens, 90%+ of those coins and tokens still turn out to be scam or just plain shitcoins. Doing your research is advisable, but to avoid getting scammed one should avoid shitcoins, the only reason they gain interest is cause investors are looking for quick ways to profit.
Only purchase currencies with strong fundamentals, besides what's on a white paper or roadmap.
2522  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce someone to Bitcoin, the best gift for this season on: December 25, 2021, 11:11:33 AM
The crypto trend is already quite popular around where I am from with a lot of people jumping into it, although, majority of the interest is directed towards pump and dumps and get rich quick schemes. Introducing  bitcoin is a bit easy as there is already a foundation for it, but getting them to direct their interest towards it is the hard part as many feel it is at the peak and cannot give 1000% or more.

I mostly discuss in general, keeping an open mind to the various altcoins they talk about and giving my honest review, my main focus however is on security; wallets, exchanges etc, and also safe investment strategies.
2523  Other / Meta / Re: Merry Christmas to the Forum on: December 25, 2021, 10:58:45 AM
Merry Christmas everyone. This is a traditional forum and we will not get season themed updates, but we can still get to spread love and good tidings around the community and the world at large.

Stay safe, Keep hodling, or using bitcoin daily and beware of scams.
2524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Historical Bitcoin Prices😊 on: December 24, 2021, 09:03:26 PM
I think everyone has to look at that historical price whenever they're losing hope and becomes fearful when there's the usual correction.
If you're getting fearful you should look at the reason you exchanged fiat for Bitcoin in the first place. There's much more to Bitcoin than the price (except they bought in due to fomo). If you use price history to make financial decisions, you'll make many mistakes on almost 98% of all cryptocurrencies.

If you're getting fearful, look to the network securiry, decentralization and many of the other features which .akes Bitcoin stand out, the time you get doubtful of the fundamentals is when you should decide to sell.
2525  Other / Meta / Re: [HELP ON REFUND] WRONGLY SENT $1000 worth of BTC to copper member payment addres on: December 24, 2021, 08:40:20 PM
can the double spend feature work to cancel the transaction so that the fund can return to the OP if the transaction has not been confirmed?
First of all, double spending does not cancel the previous transaction andhthe fund does not return to the original address. If the wallet software allows double spending, the user (let's say, Greg), who mistakenly sent funds to the wrong address, creates a new transaction, with the exact same inputs from the first erroneous one, but this time to a different address (this could be a new address or an old address they had).
What a double spend does is just to out bid the previous transaction and get picked by a miner first. The previous transaction could still get confirmed first, so trying to double spend is not 100% effective.
2526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk once again throwing shade at bitcoin on: December 23, 2021, 08:08:43 PM
I personally do not see how bitcoin came into the picture and how the topic title correlates with the actual conversation. This is just a case of a journalist (if I can call them that) trying to spin a news out of nothing while adding some key words which will drag traffic to it, like; 'Bitcoin' and 'Elon Musk'.

Elon Musk can be interested in whichever currency he is involved in, this also means he can be pro Doge.

Think you know Elon? Maybe not as much as you think .. https://youtu.be/c-FGwDDc-s8
Is this the icing on the cake? Why would i want to watch a 25 minute video "debunking Elon" off a  shitty article?
2527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador celebrate 21st of December 21 with 21 Bitcoin on: December 22, 2021, 09:50:14 PM
I imagine if were to enter a 2 year long bear market now, Nayib Bukele would be seriously screwed politically, as he'll have a lot of explaining to do to angry citizens as the government sits on a loss with their big investment while their economy is doing very poorly. Plus he seem to have bad relations with the US and IMF, so who would bail him out in the worst scenario?

Bitcoin is quite likely to go above $100,000 at some point in the future, but will Bukele still be a president when it will happen?
There is a big possibility that any draw back in the nations' bitcoin agenda could affect the president politically, but he seems to be going all in with it as well as the proposed plan to build a bitcoin city; If that works and investors actually purchase their bitcoin bonds, they would satisfy the citizens irrespective of the market condition and also position the nation should bitcoin become more pivotal in global finance. The best of politicians (for the people) are those who do not try to play politics.

I do not follow the El Salvador news closely and a lot of the interest could just be PR, but it could benefit the bitcoin network and the citizens particularly.
2528  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How safe is Celsius Network? on: December 22, 2021, 09:37:05 PM
On second thought its your first post sorry but i ll  have to be weary of that
This is the internet, you should be weary of anything and everything, be it the user's first post of their 10,000th, there is always the likelihood it can be malicious. Do not trust, verify.
This can also apply to your initial inquiry, do not make decisions solely on other users suggestions, always do your own research and verify any piece of information you can find.
2529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When and how did you discover Bitcoin? on: December 22, 2021, 09:01:33 PM
So how about you, when and how did you discover bitcoin?
I was introduced to cryptocurrencies through someone.

What were your initial thoughts?  Did you think negatively of it at first discovery and change your mind, or did you always think it was a great idea?
These questions are quite similar, so I will lump them into one answer. My first thoughts were about how complex the whole idea was and how difficult it would be to navigate, same were my thoughts as a newbie on the forum. I never had a negative notion about bitcoin and was surprisingly very receptive to the whole technology and also very interested in learning more about it.
And Yes, I always thought it was a brilliant idea.
2530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: December 21, 2021, 08:33:48 PM
what unjustis that ? Whoever arranged this fixtures for Leeds had himself to blame.
Leeds are just getting worse every week now. And one of the biggest reasons is their unfair fixture of course.
You guys realize the fixtures are semi random and there is no vendetta against any club, so unjust or unfair does not really apply, it is a harsh set of fixtures at worst? Also, there is another perspective where if they are playing most of the big teams so close to the end of the end of the first half of the season, then it means they have avoided them so far this season, facing comparatively easier opponents.
2531  Economy / Reputation / Re: did this dude try to bribe me, or am i being paranoid? on: December 21, 2021, 07:49:20 PM
If someone wants a positive feedback so bad, it is a big reason not to give it to them as chances are they want to use it for something wrong. Fishing for merits I will understand to an extent, as the forum is filled with merit talk and newbies would naturally want one, trust on the other hand is not a very popular discussion, except you regularly deal with other forum members.

Without revealing the identity of the user, I am sure other members will be able to identify same pattern of approach in the same or other users.
2532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a "Global Unit of Account"? on: December 21, 2021, 07:36:12 PM
Bitcoin as a global unit of account is an idea so bad that I don’t think it’s reasonable to even imagine such a thing. Think about coupons or sales. How would you even advertise price of anything knowing it could change so drastically from the time someone leaves their house until they get to the store. Nobody would be spending anything. There’s a reason fiat Ponzi schemes work so well. Trash money makes for good spending and high velocity.
Do you think bitcoin would always be as volatile as it is now? I personally do not expect it to be, Bitcoin is still a novel currency and as such the value is still open to speculation as it is going through price discovery.
Imo, the idea is not unrealistic, nothing about bitcoin could have been predicted and who is to say what would happen in the next century.
2533  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Question about receiving addresses on: December 21, 2021, 07:16:17 PM
I personally hope you did your research before choosing a wallet software or hardware to store your funds on, here is a thread where you can check out list of wallets, the most and least recommended. The thread is a bit out of date, but blockchain.com is listed there as not recommended (under its previous name, blockchain.info).
Electrum wallets is one of the most recommended wallets, you can research on it and how to verify its signature to ensure you are using the right one; In bitcoin, you do not trust, you verify.

So, can I use those btc addresses as receiving addresses permanently?
Yes. those addresses are all linked to your wallet and you can receive funds from any of them, it is however recommended as suggested above to change the receiving address each time you receive through it.
2534  Other / Archival / Re: Own confession of ban evading on: December 21, 2021, 07:05:14 PM
This sort of case has not happened often or at all, so it is understandable if there is no laid down blueprint for handling them. I will assume moderators will use their personal judgement in making a decision, this may be right or wrong and can always be appealed.

Moderators have a decent amount of tools to be able to make an educated guess on whether an account is connected, but Global Moderators, and then the admins are very likely to be more suited to act upon it. I personally would probably leave this type of issue for the higher ups since they've more tools at their disposal. Unless, the evidence was absolute obviously.
I am a little bit curious about what sort of tools mods or admins could use that is not available to regular users, and is not privacy sensitive as well. If it is not something that can be shared, I will totally understand that.
2535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a "Global Unit of Account"? on: December 21, 2021, 06:28:13 PM
Do you think it's possible Bitcoin will become a "global unit of account" in the future? If not, why?
Yes, It is possible for bitcoin to become a global unit of account in the future if it can become stable. If bitcoin can become stable, there would not be a need to check coin trackers for the current valuation as the price is not volatile, if you bought a coffee with a certain amount of bitcoin today, you will expect to buy it with the exact same amount the next week.

What would a world without Fiat really look like?
In my opinion, it cannot function. In a completely utopian society, maybe it will be possible, but such does not exist.
2536  Economy / Speculation / Re: Supercycle or Halving cycle still? on: December 21, 2021, 02:17:29 PM
The question that arises now is whether we will still be experiencing the bull market cycle every halving and then bear after it or will this be a supercycle like they are saying that the prices will continue to go up disregarding the fud spreading the industry?
When you say 'we will still', are you asking if that will be the case in this current market cycle or if it will continue to occur for years to come? For the latter, I'll say no, the Bitcoin market is changing rapidly over the years, volatility is gradually reducing, meaning there's less price spikes and dips. A market cycle where the price bubbles up and then bursts leading to a bear period would not always be the case, but we could rather have gradual growth, which will disinterest a lot of speculators, but will open the door to more use cases for Bitcoin.

I hope to see this question timely because we are about to dip going to a confusing market direction.
What makes you think the market is about to dip?
2537  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A newbie has honest reasons for being involved with crypto on: December 21, 2021, 02:03:32 PM
I don't have a crypto background so I'll post about things I'm good at or know about. I'd like to build up my rep because signature campaigns pay well but it isn't easy starting from nothing.
The forum was not created for members with a crypto background, but those who are trying to build one. If you're really interested in learning, you'll find lots of useful content scattered around the forum and their are lots of members willing to help with any I quiet you may have. Of course, you'll have to get aquatinted with the forum and cryptocurrency Bitcoin, before you can earn or try to.

If it isn't for personal reasons what made you join? If it isn't about money it's got to be social chats, crypto trading or crypto development. Some of you joined years ago and you're still here so what's keeping you here? Sorry I'm not being nosey I'm trying to make conversation and understand what's the best way to make money from crypto.
Everyone has different motives for joining the forum and as long as you are not a negative to the forum, by spamming, scamming or engaging in some other unethical practice, then you're free to do what you want, that's what the forum is about; freedom.

There are so many great members on this list and there are many more who are not on it, but of cause, I will not expect you to have come across every member or to have remembered them all at the time. I will honestly (not modestly) say that I will not put myself besides most of the members, but I'm also honored when recognized by other forum members.
As long as you are putting in effort to contribute, then you are a positive for the forum,
2539  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk posts as nft on: December 20, 2021, 02:13:42 PM
By the way, is this user violating copyright?
I would say they are and only the copyright owner can market the art they created and if you want to do so, you'll need their permission. However, in this case, Satoshi is no longer on the forum and no one can seek permission from him, so I'm not perfectly sure of the laws about it and who one would need to seek permission from.

If tweets can be sold as nft why not bitcointalk posts?
The scope of NFTs is so broad now and probably abused, but it is perfectly possible to put up a bitcointalk post for sale, whether anyone would or should buy is another topic.
2540  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk project Reserve fund. on: December 20, 2021, 01:55:53 PM
The central bank is a centralized system and as such can have central reserves and act as an authority over other banks;
- Bitcointalk is not a central authority and does not moderate scams,
- Scam projects can still go on without advertising on the forum, and investors and bounty hunters would still flock to those platforms,
- Such a move would open up so many other can of worms that it will not be worth the stress,
- This also brings us to the reason why scams are not moderated, it cannot be effectively handled, so rather not give users a false sense of security.
