Just watch out if she's a bar girl. They're fun, but almost never good marriage material.

No, not a bar girl. She was actually my tour guide. We've met up a few times since. She's at my home right now cooking me some kick ass thai food.

And no girl is marriage material for me. She may be great...but not half of my bitcoins great.

The only way I would get married is some sort of tax break or if I'm in the old age home and they give me a special dessert with my dinner when you get married.

So I'm heading off to thailand fully paid for by the free coins tomorrow, and I need a new suitcase. I'm thinking pink for easy visibility, but maybe an ugly yellow would work too. Thoughts?

I did a week in Thailand a few months ago. Great time, beautiful women. Cheap prices. You start to decide whether you want a nicer hotel for $45 or just go with a regular one for $25. Went to one of the islands and spent $200/night on a 5 star luxury hotel with a stairway to the pool right off of my patio on the ocean (sea?).

I plan on retiring in January and will go live there. Got a beautiful gf out of the deal as well.

Which island, which hotel?

The Chill Resort, Koh Chang.
http://www.thechillresort.com/home/

I highly recommend it.

You can book it on expedia with bitcoins Wink

2544  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is taxation theft? on: August 10, 2017, 12:11:19 AM
Taxation is theft makes sense if we have a corrupt government. It's like we are working too hard to earn the money that we paid for our taxes, but corrupt government officials are stealing our money. While we are working miserably, they enjoy the luxury of spending the people's money.

So true. Taking someone's money is not theft if the person is not corrupt. Good government makes it not theft. Great point!
2545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 09, 2017, 10:39:52 AM
Is this "sell the news" or speculation that once SegWit gets activated there will be problems?

Or just the fact that the price stopped climbing so people will take this opportunity to sell some coins until the next leg up.
2546  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is taxation theft? on: August 09, 2017, 10:34:43 AM
No. It's a necessity of a civilization. A sophisticated society cannot function without taxation. People will not make voluntary donations for roads, airports, schools, etc. Simply put, without a state and taxation, there will be no polity or society. nobody but fanatics is interested in pursuing such a state of affairs, but it's nice to know that you got a home on your Politics. This place has to be good for something.

When it comes down to it. Taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society.
2547  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is taxation theft? on: August 09, 2017, 10:33:44 AM
Yes, taxation is stealing. The government specifically does this to take money from people and not allow them to be free, but when people need help from the state, they remain in trouble.
It's not really stealing because you pay it. It's more like robbery or extortion.

But the question is, why would you not want to pay taxes, or dislike the fact that you pay taxes?

I know right!?!

We all love paying taxes!
2548  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 09, 2017, 05:07:28 AM
Elwar, I gave my family small amounts of BTC in paper wallets in 2013 as well (I am the 'crazy uncle'). Knowing well that I was the only family member that was really interested, I kept the public/private keys copied for myself. Some of the wallets will have gone through the laundry/trash before they get remembered.

I kept the private keys as well (hmm...do I sell their BCH?).

When I was in town I showed my oldest nephew how to use it on Steam. He was pretty excited about it at that point.
2549  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 09, 2017, 04:48:46 AM
I gave my niece 1 bitcoin for her birthday back in December 2013 (when the price was $900/BTC). Throughout the year I gave each of my nieces and nephews 1 bitcoin for their birthday, the first being about $50 and the last being about $1k.

My niece's mom, my sister, felt it was very generous when I gave it to her knowing the price (though I had paid about $20 each for the coins I gave away). But as the price fell over the next year my sister was soured of the whole bitcoin thing and kept asking me how to cash out the coin so she could put it in a CD or savings bond or whatever. I told her how but she could never figure it out (I had given her the private key in her birthday card). Finally last month she cashed it in and bought an iPhone.

The point of the gift was not the money but the gift of learning about Bitcoin and giving the kids first hand knowledge of how to use bitcoins. The parents keep wanting to jump in and "save" their kid from this crazy Internet money by selling it and putting it in the bank or spending it.

One nephew got it though. When the price went from $200 or so to $4-500 he said "if it went up that much, imagine how much it will be worth in a few years!".  I think my oldest nephew who is in college now probably spent his on drugs (or gift cards, who knows).

Perhaps you mean all-out revolution? Well, I'm pretty sure that in the U.S. that is coming soon. Likely a French Revolution style revolt. Many here would be all-in on that. Grin

How about this time around, instead of destroying the status quo with all kinds of violence and figuring that the rest will take care of itself (like what George Bush tried to do in Iraq), we start out building and testing the better system. That's actually the beauty of the crypto revolution: we are building decentralized money and decentralized forms of governance first. Testing them out, one step at a time. When they are really working, there will be no need for a violent revolution. Existing systems will crumble under their own weight (e.g.: Venezuela) and better, decentralized systems will be already in place to take up the slack.

No need for war. Please.

I see seasteads as the next revolution in testing better governance systems. I am working in this sector and crypto is playing a huge role.

The boomers will have a troubled retirement.

I won't let my folks suffer obviously, but my old man is as bad as any of them from a political-economic perspective. The fact that they don't know just does not excuse what they have done. Results matter in the adult world.

I read an article recently that said that the boomers are very worried about retirement. That they should have somewhere in the neighborhood of $600K+ saved, but that even the most savvy of them only have like $200K saved. Most have far less saved or nothing.

I keep thinking, what the hell were they doing with their money all those years? Why weren't they investing in stocks back when times were really good and the markets were flying high on real fundamentals?

Good god, to go back to the 80's and heavily invest in Microsoft or Apple....

My mother is retired. When she talks to her accountant the advice he gives her is to not live too long.

Ok, you all convinced me. Seeing the same answer over and over by people with signatures must mean that it is true.

I not think tax is theft. It depend on what it spent on. It good for society.

I forgot to pay my rent at the beginning of the month.

The price on August 1 was around $2,600. Today I paid when the price was $3,400.

I'm glad I forgot.  Grin
2554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What would be the best alt coin protocol for every day real life spending? on: August 08, 2017, 04:47:33 AM
This thread is not here to promote your alt coin because I am not looking to buy your alt coin.

What I am considering is creating a currency for a small area (town) that can be used for every day purchases. No need for a world currency, something that is quick, easy and secure as far as transactions go.

What are you guys feeding the bitcoin price?

It's so big.

I'm not sure who the wealthy elite are considered.

But I am enjoying the new ATH.
2557  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 08, 2017, 03:40:10 AM
I still see 112 blocks needed for lock-in on xbt.eu

Was worried about a double top when the price stopped at yesterday's high. But it jumped through easily.

Yesterday I was watching the movie Dope while I had the price ticker next to the TV showing "All Time High". Pretty sweet.

Then I watched Money Masters where they made mentions of the price being $400. Some guy bought a 1mBTC coin and said the coin was pretty cool as a collector's item but it was only worth pennies.
2558  Other / Meta / Re: Redditor asking why people on bitcointalk sound so dumb. What is your theory? on: August 07, 2017, 01:41:28 PM
One of the responses in this thread on reddit lead a newbie to bitcointalk. His reaction:

Quote
I've just started reading a lot of bitcointalk to expand my knowledge but I swear, most users in there sound like teenagers from non-English speaking countries. Not that I have anything against that, but is that accurate or is there some kind of inside joke language used on the site?

What are your thoughts on why there is such a reaction?

#: I am self-moderating this thread because most threads end up getting spammed by people that sound like teenagers from non-English speaking countries that add nothing of value.

Every one is entitled to his opinion to judge but I wont say he is totally wrong or totally right  because even respected members of the forum have equally share the same thought and thats why its recommended for one to stay in his language section if you cannot communicate in proper English. However, generalizing it is somewhat wrong because we have several people who are advanced in age with some even have kids that are teenagers on the forum and communicate effectively. In all, I would say the exposure he got based on the few posts he saw made him conclude that way because he was not around long enough to see otherwise.

As someone who has been here long enough, almost every thread turns to shit after about 5 posts. It is then just the same things repeated for 20 pages.

I have locked several of my own threads because the answer to my question was given within the first page, only to be repeated over and over and over by anyone and everyone with signature links.
2559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 07, 2017, 12:37:11 PM
i write about it before - just big booble  from one pumper  Cheesy

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-06/mysterious-trader-nearly-unlimited-bankroll-said-be-manipulating-bitcoin-price

when he stop , bitcoin stop.  stop  Cheesy

We have observed him here pumping the price. He used about $12 million to pump it from around $2750 to $2850 but he had orders there waiting to sell at the higher price.

The article's assumption that he is somehow getting around the wells fargo bank deposit restrictions with Bitfinex is wrong because he can always deposit bitcoins and sell them to get dollars (like when he pumped it to $2850).

This concept of "spoofing" is very common on the exchanges to the point that people don't fall for it when they see a huge wall (other than the bots maybe). Pointing out that it is illegal (in what country?) doesn't change shit.
2560  Other / Meta / Re: Redditor asking why people on bitcointalk sound so dumb. What is your theory? on: August 07, 2017, 10:02:49 AM
Easy solution? Get rid of signatures and make a forum policy against advertising.

Though it would result in a drop in traffic from these zombies so it would lose money for bitcointalk.
