I can’t think of anywhere you are more likely to die in a random hail of gunfire or be eaten by cannibals than being surrounded by 6,000 preppers.

Take a yacht with food and medical supplies out into the Pacific. A monohull so you can take a knock down in a storm and pop straight back up again.

Or a seastead. I'm starting to get excited here in French Polynesia about things moving forward on that front. Good things coming soon (tm).

Any pictures you are able to share would be welcome. Even if it’s only baguettes and palm trees.

No baguettes and only shadows of palm trees...but this was my breakfast yesterday morning just outside of my bedroom.

And the sunset on the first day I moved in (before I started cleaning up the beach)

Sounds like a fat finger Elwar or someone with some money to hide in a hurry.

Yep. Checked again price shot up to 2800000. Price was around 280000 at the time.

An interesting thing happened on the lower volume Thai exchange when the price was coming down. Someone bought all of the bitcoins. All orders were filled. I saw 600k baht orders go through (very small amounts). That's about 20k USD. I am not sure if someone fat fingered it but then the price dropped down to around 200k baht.

Fortunately I had put in a small sell for my gf at 397k baht a while back so she could take money out for rent. When the price stopped rising around 340k I told her to keep the order there and use some other money. I told her the bitcoin price is like the weather in Michigan, if you don't like it right now just wait a bit.

Been busy SCUBA diving in Tahiti. Noticed the price is down a little. Locals wanting to buy from me. Me telling them I don't sell the dip. Will have to hold off on pocket money for a few.

After all of these years, someone finally implemented my idea.

Long ago, Bitcoin made history when it was used to buy a pizza. Now, the cryptocurrency can be used to purchase many different items and services. One of the more intriguing services has just arisen in the Legends Room in Las Vegas, where customers can scan temporary tattoos on strippers in order to tip them in cryptocurrency.

When the price is at $9975 and it goes up $25 I'm happy.

Another $300 up and I'm like...meh

Why does no one talk about the 20th Amendment.  That’s what a free people look like.

No love is given to the 3rd Amendment.  Cry

I do not see the point in saying that bitcoin is dead,
cause as soon as you say this,
it goes right back upwards beyond $10,000 just as fast as it went down below $9600 but a minute ago.

Bitcoin is dead.

Time to dust off that resume and go work for Warren Buffet or George Soros.
2052  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [UNSOLVED] WEX.NZ IS RESETING YOUR ACCOUNT TO 0 BALANCE AFTER VERIFIED on: February 22, 2018, 04:56:16 AM
Hello everyone,

As of some days ago, If your account has been locked before 2016 due to inactivity, after you unlock it, your balance will be reduced to 0. You'll have to send them an actual screenshot of when you could see your balance to restore the funds to your account. There has been numerous reports both on reddit and on their own Telegram group chat.

What I'm trying to figure is if that is deliberate or an unknown/accidental bug in their system. Either way they haven't made any proper announcement.

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/wex/comments/74iam6/wex_verified_now_account_empty/

This is what they will reply to you:

"Thank you for contacting the WEX Exchange Support Service. We do not have data on deposits and deductions from the previous site only on current balances. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us."
"We informed in the news that we don't possess historical data on transaction and orders of the old platform, that's why we cannot approve or deny your words about funds deposit. The funds were credited to the new platform WEX.nz in the amount shown in your profile. During the period after BTCE closing and before WEX opening, all transactions were fulfilled out of control of the old platform as well out of control of the new one."

This case only happens if you had an account prior to 2016 suspended, and now activated again (through the verification process).

I've been waiting to be verified for 6 months (actually about a year since I started on the old site). How the hell does one get verified?
2053  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM ALERT] WEX / BTC-e / MAYZUS FINANCIAL SERVICES on: February 22, 2018, 04:48:29 AM
Any user that had their account locked cannot get their account unlocked and WEZ is keeping their money.

How do we track down these scammers in Russia? Haven't any of the hacker community been able to track their IPs or anything like that?

If anyone knows of a way to make this happen, there are many of us that are locked out that would like to know.

Some time ago we had a discussion here about a possible issue with the Lightning Network. Some big blocker was suggesting that the Lightning Network is doomed to fail because routing and because problems.

The potential problem is similar to a double spend attempt. Briefly and roughly: Alice has a channel with Bob, Alice sends funds to Bob and while Bob is offline she broadcasts the channel state as it was before she spent the funds, thus undoing the spend. However, if anyone broadcasts the correct (later) channel state, Alice is done: the whole channel balance goes to Bob. Serves her right for trying to cheat.

The problem is, if Bob's offline he knows nothing about Alice's wrongdoings, so there must be someone watching the channel for him. This someone could be rewarded by Bob with part of the funds if cheating is discovered (and therefore funds are gained by Bob). I speculated that a bounty market could come into existence. It seems there are already some bounty hunters in the present, clunky version of the LN. They are doing it for free at the moment, since the cost of watching a few channels is negligible.

It's in the comments. The video itself is technical. Mention of the bounty hunters was the topic that spurred the most attention in the discussion.

Problem, meet solution.

Even a small topic like why there is an NRA backed ban on research into gun violence would take a long time to do properly, even though on its face it’s a ridiculous law.  What is more anti-science than banning research ?

All over human history being forcefully disarmed was a synonym of being a slave or a prisoner. Maybe "research" that.

Australia had all their guns confiscated 25 years ago.  They haven’t had a mass shooting since.  And they don’t look like slaves.

Maybe not from your perspective...

The average Aussie bogan is far better off than the average Murican peckerwood.  For starters minimum wage is A$18.29 which is US$14.25.   Not many fast food workers in Georgia making $14 an hour.

Not many fast food workers in Australia

Not to get into a statistics war over something that is actually a matter of power and control (see: freedom) but...

Once the government disarms then we can talk about disarming its citizens.

What's with the current 10% blood bath happening?

We're trying to get bcash back to .2 BTC by bringing the price to bcash since bcash isn't bringing the price up to bitcoin. Doesn't seem to be working though :/

I wonder what proportion of the alt-right thinks the earth is flat.  10%?  30%? 75%?

I wonder what proportion of the flat earthers are actually trolls, getting Youtube hits from people going there to view their insanity or prove them wrong. Or just for the lolz.

As for me, I've circled the globe and every time I look down from the airplane window, what do I see? A flat earth.

</QED>

Holy shit. I think I'm unofficially retired as of an hour ago.
It hasn't hit me yet.
Making it official with a select group tomorrow, then telling my direct manager on Friday.
Wow.
I can't believe I actually pulled this plan off...
Congratulations!
Do you have any plans as to what you're going to do from now on?

- Catch up on sleep
- Move to Texas
- Play lots of vidya
- Work on writing / recording music
- Work with vocal coach for refining my range
- Lots of reading
- Lots of gym time
- Lots of lounging by the pool, and being sexy pool boy for Big Dicked Ginger Rick while he continues to work for a few years more
- Bitcoin Lightning Network involvement with running a node
- Chillin' wit all you homies in this thread
- Drinking beer
- Travelling the world and building up a library of first-order ambisonic ambient recordings

Being retired I find myself needing to justify myself every once in a while when I do absolutely nothing all day.

I'm retired bitches, do you know how many working days I have looked forward to waking up, doing absolutely nothing, taking a nap, getting up and doing absolutely nothing then going to sleep early at night? Some days I do that on principle. Because I can.

Sure I'll eventually get bored of that and do more productive things, but give me my moment here...

Necro-bump for all the newcomers!  Cool

Thanks.

I think the story would have made a good movie in its time but I'm not sure if people are still curious about who Satoshi is. Especially after Wright came in and basically shit on the whole concept.
