261  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: So I got scammed with the electrum wallet scam on: July 23, 2019, 11:14:23 PM
Please,if you want people to help you should give some more details.

-From where did you download your "old" Electrum wallet?
-Can you show us a screenshot of the "upgrade" window popping when you try to spend your coins?

What can I do apart from report it?
Look if the coins are still in the address where you deposited your coins using an explorer,if you've been scammed, they won't be there (moved by the hacker) or give us the address so we can check it.
262  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading competitions on: July 21, 2019, 11:51:35 PM
I also found a trading competition at Crypto Bridge. It's a daily and weekly competition though, and the rewards seem attractive; you can add this link to your thread.

Aside from the goal of this thread, how an average person manage to get good rewards from these competitions? I mean most of the the top leaderboard are only whales that have a big capital for trading..
263  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-19] U.S. Regulator Probing Crypto Exchange BitMEX Over Client Trades on: July 21, 2019, 11:11:38 PM
I would have expected Bitmex to completely block all incoming traffic from the US. This is weird, why would you allow someone from a country you don't serve create an account?
Simply because Traffic=Money; Having more traffic means your website will have a better ranking when looking for exchanges using Search engines like Google that's called "SEO" -Search Engine Optimization, and also to keep a good Alexa ranking of their website. They also know that even if they block US IP from accessing the website people would use a VPN anyways..

264  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-12] $2.28 Billion - Estimated loss caused by Crypto Crimes on: July 21, 2019, 11:03:15 PM

You are the one who should get his brain checked lol.Just Coincheck lost $530 million from the NEM hack back in 2018, and just in 2018 $1.1 B has been hacked according to this article (Before arguing it's fake again, check it out because they are giving referance to which hacks occured in 2018)
And yes,I believe these are numbers are relatively true, the financial loss is comparable to UK GDP.
265  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-07-12] $2.28 Billion - Estimated loss caused by Crypto Crimes on: July 21, 2019, 10:10:58 PM
I'm shocked to see that this much money has been lost due to crimes  Shocked in only 2 years...

Quote
The South Korean Justice Ministry estimates that cryptocurrency-related crimes have caused 2.69 trillion won (about $2.28 billion) of financial damage between July 2017 and June 2019.

For comparison, that's approximately 217k of BTC which is insane.I guess most of these are concerning exchange hacks, which lead to the conclusion that crypto platforms should really step up their game to reduce the losses...

What do you think?

266  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-12] Japanese Exchange Hacked for $32 Million in Cryptocurrency on: July 21, 2019, 08:43:20 PM
Yes we should.
Look at the Coincheck hack. They lost hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of XEM because ALL of it was in a hot wallet. This is a coin that actually has multi sig built into it yet they couldn't be bothered to use it.
Yes, I agree with you on this one.Coincheck did almost nothing to ensure security of the coins.

These guys clearly don't know how to handle the responsibility of making sure people's funds are safe. I'm sure the only thing they focused on were the profits that they were generating.
I don't think any exchange really master how to prevent hacks.Even Binance, one of the most known exchanges with a solid team of engineers was a victim of a hack. It's not that easy to perfectly master a new growing field in terms of security that's IMHO we shouldn't blame them too much.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TerraGreen – Blockchain Based Renewable Energy Platform on: July 21, 2019, 07:27:53 PM
Why do you call the project a scam? I went through KYC and received my tokens in my account without any problems. Now I can sell them on the exchanger,  the team has fulfilled all its obligations honestly to the participants of the bounty company.
TerraGreen announced months ago that there was no KYC needed to receive the rewards and now they changed their minds that's a clear violation of agreement that lead to loss people who joined only because KYC wasn't needed and aren't willing to submit their personal info, therefore calling it a scam. Please take time to read the allegations before defending them.
268  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Guide and advice for new Users before you Download anything from the Forum ! on: July 21, 2019, 06:03:01 PM
Another tip from me if you are still paranoid even after following the advices given in this thread, use a Sandbox software (Like Sandboxie, the most popular one) When you use Sandboxie to install something you've downloaded, it doesn't install it in your computer, it only installs it 'Sandboxed' which means even if it's a malware it won't affect your computer. 269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Brutal Truth on: July 21, 2019, 04:17:35 PM
-snip-
It did happen in the past. And yes, the hacker most likely hacked the victim's phone to get into his app which is something that anyone can be exposed to if not being careful or they performed a phishing attack directly to get the 2FA code look:Article
As I said,as long as it has to do with something that is installed in a device connected (Like GA in a phone connected to Internet) it is vulnerable, that's why I prefer a physical device for 2FA.

Edit:Speaking of Authy, a vulnerability was also found on it years ago by Sakurity. See more: Authy Vulnerability
270  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Brutal Truth on: July 21, 2019, 02:51:57 PM
So if SMS or Email isn't the correct 2FA to use (Which I agree with somewhat) What do you recommend people to use? Google Auth? Even Google Auth can be hacked and it did happen in the past if you look up on Google. A good 2FA to me is to have a physical device with buttons like a hardware wallet that only you should own to confirm access when you logging. It already exists such devices but they are not implemented in most services unfortunately.
271  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam Alert] Mercatox.org (DT help needed) on: July 20, 2019, 10:57:54 PM
I thought MEE6 was native to the server: it couldn't message just anyone. It seems like that was a welcome message from one of the servers you joined.
That's what I thought too, but when looking for the servers in common we joined me and the bot (feature displayed in his profile) there isn't any.Plus I didn't join any server recently, this is very weird indeed but somehow they managed to message people without making them join their server..
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congress: Bitcoin Is Unkillable And Unstoppable! on: July 20, 2019, 10:54:02 PM
It's possible if the attacker is -- or has close connections to -- a top ASIC manufacturer, and colludes with large existing miners. But this all gets back to the problem of incentives. Even if an attacker has the means, it would still cost billions of dollars to mount this attack. For what gains? Once it's known that a 51% attack is occurring, users simply need to stop transacting. The attackers will just keep bleeding money until they give up.
Well,it's true that it's a big challenge for a person or a small group of people but what about Governments and whole Countries.. Money isn't a problem to these entities, and as of the incentive to do so is simple -get rid of BTC.We can't deny that if governments want, they definetely can cause trouble to BTC
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congress: Bitcoin Is Unkillable And Unstoppable! on: July 20, 2019, 08:14:33 PM
It would require that person to acquire so much hardware that it literally would take years to perform this attack.
Not really, if that "person" or organization have enough money and influence it won't take much to perform it.

existing farms have enough extra capacity to increase their hashrate to a point where the attacker would need +60 or even +70% of the hashrate.
No.As far as I can tell, farms can expand their capacity to compete with attacker and not let him get 51% but they can't make him need 60-70% of the hashrate to perform it.

It would be an utter waste of time and money.
If the attack succeed, it won't be a waste of money.

Just like how they banned drugs? That definitely worked. It made the prices of drugs sky rocket and the industry be worth like $400 billion annually.

You can't compare drugs to BTC.If they ban it, price will 100% collapse not sky rocket.

274  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam Alert] Mercatox.org (DT help needed) on: July 20, 2019, 03:52:21 PM
Which Discord server did you get these messages from?
I couldn't find any server that is related to this giveway or fake exchange. They just made a bot to send messages to random people they find on Discord projects servers therefore I couldn't find anything concrete about the thread creator/author of this scam sorry.
275  Economy / Scam Accusations / [Scam Alert] Mercatox.org (DT help needed) on: July 18, 2019, 10:44:09 PM
What happened:: A giveaway thread to scam people has been posted at Bitcointalk and advertised in Discord via private messages. They tell you that you won 0.1 BTC that get deposited at mercatox.org (The real exchange is mercatox.com) and when you want to withdraw, they ask you to deposit 0.02 BTC to activate your account, obvious scam.
Scammers Profile Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1167128
Reference Link: archive /Scam thread
Risked amount: 0.02 BTC

Proofs: http://whois.domaintools.com/mercatox.org Domain name created 10 days, they obviously wanted to impersonate mercatox.com which is another exchange.

276  Local / Produits et services / Utopia - Écosystème Décentralisé & Sécurisé on: July 18, 2019, 02:17:37 PM

I-Introduction

277  Economy / Economics / Re: Bomb Token, Runescape Partyhats and Rubber Turkeys — A Game of Scarcity & Desire on: July 18, 2019, 01:39:17 AM
I think that the comparison of a lot of fiat currencies to in game GP is a good one - while they may be store of values in the short run, or at least appear to be so; in the long term their value is heavily based on trust in the game to continue to function.
The problem isn't trusting the game to continue functioning, the real problem is that nowadays there are a lot of bots that heavily farm on multiple accounts the in game gold to dump it for couple $ cents/million.There is also risk of inside jobs, and this actually happened recently at Jagex where a moderator have stolen from players their GP.All these factors and other similar ones has lead the price of GP to go downhill, which answers the question,- no, it's not a good store of value.
278  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: TerraGreen Bounty KYC-Scam - changed rules of their bounty and refused payments on: July 16, 2019, 10:49:43 PM
I got a notification in my email that I received some TGN tokens at tokpie, which is very strange because I didn't do the KYC  Huh. Those who also transferred their stakes to Tokpie please check if you also got the tokens I'm curious why this is happening since judging from their Telegram chat they are still insisting on bounty hunters to do KYC
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This Will Be the Year for Privacy Tokens Mark My Words Says, John Mcafee on: July 16, 2019, 03:43:41 PM
Yeah and Bitcoin price will be 1 million $ by the end of 2020 or he will eat his d*ck? I don't take seriously this guy , just pure bullshit. As of Privacy tokens, they surely have useful products but they are also ruled by the market therefore I don't expect them to blow up unless the whole crypto market also blows up.
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Centralized exchanges vs Decentralized exchanges on: July 15, 2019, 06:34:47 PM
Decentralized exchanges are just not convenient most of the time; it takes quite a while before your order is fullfilled not like centralized ones but you can be sure that no one will ask for KYC when it comes to these exchanges and that's a big plus for people who care about their anonymity.

[...]
I may agree with some points you've made in your post butI don't think that there is a 0% risk of getting hacked even with decentralized exchanges plus you need some technical knowledge to be able to use a it that's why most of new people prefer using centralized exchanges since obviously they are easier to use.
