"IamSatoshi - In Decentralization We trust"

Filmmaker Tomer Kantor is doing a documentary project (est length: 52 minutes), portraying a montage of bold verbal and graphic assessments, dubbed over synched video art to a carefully edited underscore.

Through this journey, we get to learn about the origin and ethics of Bitcoin's developers, and explore their wide spectrum of professions, beliefs and social representation. We will try to uncover how they perceive Bitcoin and how they relate to its ideals.

263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple's War against Bitcoin means they want to create their own Crypto on: March 09, 2014, 04:34:31 AM
What is apples incentive for creating its own Cryptocurrency if its just going to peg it to the dollar anyway? Nothing. May as well just create an iPaypal at that point, that way they can reverse transactions if they really want to (which the government will likely force them to do anyway).

And do you really think apple is going to go all fontas on us and create an altcoin?

i wouldn't call it an altcoin.
E.g. AmazonCoin is more like a token system to buy digital goods.
They try to attract customers with advantages and goodies when using the system.
So if people don't spend their tokens directly after exchange for money, Amazon still has a relative safe profit,
as chances are high that users won't turn their coins back to dollars and value will stay in Amazon's internal system.

thinking further it's like a much improved version of the marketing strategy binding consumers with a bonus points system. (like in supermarkets, gas stations, airlines with bonus miles etc.)
The company can secure a market share of consumers' buying power in advance and gets a credit free of interest everytime tokens stay unspent.
264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple's War against Bitcoin means they want to create their own Crypto on: March 09, 2014, 03:39:15 AM
it was discussed last year in several threads.
apple is already working on it.

Coindesk: Apple to create virtual currency ‘iMoney’
Quote
Yesterday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Organization published a patent application from Apple for – wait for it – iMoney. Apple looks to get into the digital currency game in a way similar to Amazon Coins. The patent is a combination of virtual currency and digital wallet technology. It allows users to store money in the cloud and make payments with their iPhone.

i would assume apple would push this service in combination with its ibeacon technology to provide a multimedia shopping service that can be licensed by big companies for their shop chains.

266  Economy / Speculation / Re: TA 101 with MatTheCat. Critical Turning Point Ahead? on: March 01, 2014, 09:06:29 PM
so this is just a try,
i'm dabbling around with several indicators. (even after half a year reading up the basics i feel like an absolute newb at TA, couldn't explain most of the indicators in depth, and i mostly just get a slight feeling what could happen)
this is how my chart looks like so far:

yea, i also include moonphases  Cheesy ( i just love the two peaks during new moon)

i still find it difficult to find the right weighting of the several indicators.
4h MACD crossing is often mentioned for shorter timespans, MACD crossing overall seems to play a big role (besides RSI) according to many users' comments.
comparing the current situation (possible bearish post-GOX deathrattle phase that would take some more days,weeks...or even months who knows  Undecided)
with the bottom in July 2013 i still see a good chance to go lower.

can you guys recommend any other indicators?

@ Dalmar: what is the difference between the Chaikin Money Flow Indicator and the regular MFI?

How do I convert Direct shares into AM1 shares on Havelock??

https://www.havelockinvestments.com/fund.php?symbol=AM1

Quote
Importing Shares
There is no fee to import shares. There is no minimum quantity for importing shares.

How to Import Direct Shares:
1. Send an e-mail to fnnirvana@gmail.com & Havelock Investments at
AMFund@havelockinvestments.com with the following message:

”Please transfer (X) of my shares to the Havelock Investments account at 1J5fvfUrDcZj8rrpVHMgn8u7sXee84QkPd --
AMFund@havelockinvestments.com”

Also include the following info:
- Your current ASICMINER share-holding wallet address & e-mail address
- The quantity of shares you wish to transfer

2. If the e-mail address you have on file with ASICMINER is different than the one you use for your Havelock account, you MUST send an e-mail from the e-mail address you have registered with Havelock confirming this import request. If this is the case, please provided a dated, signed message from the host wallet to confirm ownership.
3. After confirmation from Friedcat is received, the AM1 shares will be added to your account within 48 hours or less. Please note that ASICMINER currently processed requests once per week, so some imports may take up to 9 days to fully process.

Did you buy 1 bitcoin yet? That would make for some excitement Smiley

No.

Jorge, I'd like to send you a 100mBTC tip for your work compiling the Chinese Slumber method posts.

It is really easy to get a blockchain.info wallet.  If you are willing to accept the tip, just post a pic to this thread that shows the blockchain wallet on your screen and something that says "JorgeStolfi" so I know the address belongs to you.

+1

Despite the pure academic interest, I'd donate a small sum too, so Jorge doesn't have to buy any btc.
A theorist without any practical approach has no clue what he's theorizing about.

Come on, it doesn't hurt...just take the damn pill  Wink

What is the best way to contact friedcat about changing the dividend payout adres of my direct shares?

I had it set to my gox account and need to change that now.

Send him a PM with your signing address asking to switch the payout location
(Believe that is the proper procedure)
either that or send an email to fnnirvana(@)gmail.com (ofc also add a signed message with your wallet address as mentioned by swordsoffreedom)

edit:
I am afraid that he's unable to sign message with address from Gox account. Since he doesn't own private key from address. It was very stupid idea at first. I am afraid he just lost his shares, until he's somehow able to get private key from Gox, which is unlikely. Another sad story here.
oh no, don't tell me the shares were assigned to a gox wallet. (from what i read he just assigned the div payout to a gox address)
well in that case things could get difficult.
273  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2014, 08:41:37 PM
Yep, yep. Not trying to give you advice, just speculating.

Wouldn't the fact that sub-$300 prices would be a major break of the long term trend make you uneasy?

$400 is right on the 200 EMA on the week chart. A perfect place to bounce up off of just like we did in July 2013 at the bottom of the last bear market.

As I see it, going to 200-300$ is the continuation of the long term trend. Every bubble has dropped to the level around the peak of the previous bubble.
I actually don't use the charts much with cryptos to make decisions in trading. This market is unregulated and the wealth highly concentrated, so the price doesn't move in a way that would make sense in regular commodity markets. What interests me the most are the proper reasons that give potential to the rise of demand. If there are new reasons for people to buy and hold, then I'm back being bullish. During the past months there have been only reasons why people should drop bitcoin. I see that only hype and stupidity has postponed this drop.
To me "look! everyone seems to be buying!" is no reason to buy. I need better reasons about the success of the commodity itself, not just another wave of hype.

Sounds like we have very different trading/investing strategies. I'm definitely a mid/short term trader so charts are a must for me.

I think there have been huuugely positive signs coming out all through this bear market that have been overshadowed by negative press. So much investment in bitcoin based businesses, apps, big companies accepting bitcoin as payment, atms, general public consciousness of bitcoin, etc, etc. As a long term bull, I think this is the best time one could possibly buy. The price is only currently low because people are freaking out about Gox which has nothing to do with all the positives mentioned above.

Here's what I'm talking about... I mistyped before, this is the 52 week EMA which is exactly the line that the last crash rode up and off its final bottom. Also note that the low of that crash was not near the high of the previous bubble.

i agree, same sentiment here. (although i still expect a last deathrattle by old Gox)
This ongoing drama has held the market depressed for quite a while and at least the inescapable shutdown went off smoothly.
The situation could have escalated in a much uglier fashion that would've harmed the whole economy and prolonged the bear market far into 2014.
Atm it feels more like a relief that another unprofessional and highly scammy/manipulative appearing company finally died with a decent firework to the rising standards and demands by a growing community.

It's time for bitcoin to leave the toddler phase with its teething problems and take the first steps towards maturity for becoming the online currency.

Economy can take a breath and catch up developing better apps and putting out the feelers to new market niches and business opportunities.
I'd love to see more online services accept btc - porn and gambling already on its way, next step: payment for digital media (movies/series/music/games) and online services (web storage, hosting websites, blogs etc.).
i hope for news with names like Amazon(Coin), Netflix, Blizzard, Steam(OS), Soundcloud and many others in the future.

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to get an instant notification when Bitstamp is down?

(never used services like this so i can't recommend any in the list)
275  Economy / Speculation / Re: people hold on to your coins on: February 25, 2014, 10:40:06 AM
I think this a great time to buy some bitcoins, although I'm sure some people would appreciate some Zhoutong right about now
So here you go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG1qooBzE2w

do u know that zhoutong owns an exchaneg in australia called CoinJar and he is doing really well? Although he scammed so many people. Mark Karpeles will also be v successful in his next venture after all this is over.

In this world, success means you need to be a fucking ahole.

sorry for nitpicking, just for the record:

AFAIK, Zhoutonged (@youtube) ≠ Zhou Tong (infamous scammer)
(name probably was chosen because of the expression "zhoutonged" similar to "goxxed"

Is this real? What is this??

probably not, cars are not breaking

I know I wouldn't keep going if a plane suddenly crashed on the bridge I was driving
Yeah, a huge plane traveling at over 200mph can land on a bridge with hardly any damage to the plane or bridge..  Roll Eyes

it's a pic by digital artist steve mcghee:

little attempt to get this thread back on track before its closed:
(perhaps OP should have chosen a better title and not proposed the *cough* Hitler memes)

here's a complete list of all the hitler vids i know of:
Hitler got screwed by Bitcoin weekend dip and is reminiscing about his Bitcoin mining career.
Hitler sells all his Bitcoins
Hitler got screwed by selling Bitcoin for MtGox fiat
Hitler finds out about the Butterfly Labs Monarch
Hitler looses his coins on Inputs.io
Hitler's Maxcoin rant Part I
Hitler's Maxcoin rant Part II

and not btc related, Hitler looses his Great Value Carrots

can't deny myself a little OT (as a german i have to post at least something when this subject comes up):
Went to Berlin a while back. The amount of jew guilt they have is disturbing. They had this sort of... museum of atrocities. Scanners at the entrance, just like in your typical airport, low light and backlit images with sad sob stories about how terrible the evil germans were and how good and proper and victimized the jews were. It was something that belonged in a satire, not in the real world.

For a foreigner it always depends on the historical empathy coming from his own country's history to get the whole picture.
Germany is one of the few countries that constantly tries to deal in several ways with its own history.
Many countries haven't lost a war during a dictatorship and therefore didn't have to start that process in the beginning. (not to mention the following split of german society in two parts for nearly 40 years with different ideologies)
Superpowers like USA will never openly work through several wars of the last century, neither will russia or china discuss the deaths of thousand's of people under the reign of stalin and mao.
A lot of countries' societies today still don't deal completely with its history after a dictatorship, if it is chile, cambodia or others. (North Korea will be an interesting case when it finally falls)
As long as a country doesn't fully experience the consequences and collapses, its society is never forced to come clean with its own history,
because there is never an occasion to honestly question its actions in the first place.

I admit that this process of coming to terms can often derange into hyperbolical ways in germany (esp. seen at the higly controverse "Wehrmacht" exhibition), but looking at the dimension of inhumanity during those times I have no clue what would be a better way to raise awareness for the future.
Luckily there are also a lot of documentations on people like Stauffenberg, the White Rose, Georg Elser and others which show that some individuals didn't adopt the propaganda and tried to stand up against the regime and help its victims.

(At this point I recommend the documentary "Shoa" if somebody is interested)
