2641  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: South Africa’s Tax Agency Targets Tax-Evading Cryptocurrency Traders on: September 26, 2018, 07:59:46 PM
So they are under the assumption of all traders are tax evaders now? This would be really a waste of time and money if you are one of the traders who are paying the right taxes. This is the wrong assumption to make as they are leaving behind some of the most important targets and that are people who are sending BTC straight away with their wallets, if they know that the SARS is on to traders what they can simply do is to stay away there and do the transactions directly with their wallets. What should they be doing is issuing KYC requirements and AML compliances in both exchanges as well as local wallet providers if they have none.
2642  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos should reconsider amount for "Donator" and "VIP" status. on: September 26, 2018, 06:59:26 PM
In my own personal opinion I don't think theymos needs to adjust the BTC requirement for those legendary statuses as we really don't need more of those members because of a cheaper price (the more they are the less cool the statuses gets). Don't worry about the hosting not being paid as theymos also auctions off 10 banner slots once in a while in order for BCT to have a revenue going for the website, I think this is enough for them to keep the website running as from what I see they already are in Round 256 for the ad spaces already, and if hosting expenses is really an issue theymos might have done it by now or he might be creating a new status for a cheaper price.
2643  Other / Meta / Re: Shouldn't bounty managers clean up spam posts in their thread ? on: September 26, 2018, 06:20:53 PM
This isn't avoidable as they are using the thread as a way to report their requirements and it won't change until they find a solution externally. Also cleaning up hundreds of post will be an impossible task for the bounty manager as he is only one person. The solution I am currently seeing is for the future post reports done by the members which are to be sent elsewhere and they can do this maybe by sending their reports outside of Bitcointalk maybe with the help of Google Docs/GForms, with this way we won't be flooded by these kinds of posts in the future, and that we can maybe clean the past reports without any worry that it will pile up with new ones.
2644  Economy / Reputation / Re: I was given negative trust by member Vod for an opinion and would like help on: September 26, 2018, 03:46:29 PM
The problem with believing in a flat earth is deeper. If you are not familiar with what they believe, they literally think space is not real, all the other stars/planets, everything is a lie and a hoax. They think gravity doesn't exist, some of them think the sun is small and close, others (notbatman) claim the sun is a holographic projection and it's not just fake, it's a hoax made by some unknown group to ''control us'' and keep us away from God. There is no end to their fabrications, when you believe that almost everything we know is a complete lie, you are certainly mentally ill.
Oh believe me I somehow am familiar with the situation that is why I have said they are not open to facts and is close minded about the whole debate. Also they are here reasoning out that this whole Earth being rounded is a one big cover-up being done by the government in order to fool people that there was a moon-landing, satellite stations, and other space projects that never really existed and is just one big hoax done by the government. If that is really true I don't know what really is the motive behind it if there is one, hearing it from a flat earther is a crazy thing to absorb in your brain.
2645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor Prediction and Info Thread on: September 26, 2018, 03:05:21 PM
McGregor's only hope is if he takes this fight into his own game which he needs to be standing up right with both of his hands prepared to strike a KO, that is if he is smart to do so or if his body can, it also depends on how Khabib will play this out. McGregor is really the underdog here as his last match in the octagon being two years will really put him in a disadvantage in terms of experience and him having a big break in his pro mma career will also be a big factor as his fight IQ might not be as good as Khabib's. It would be a miracle to see him win this bout.
2646  Economy / Reputation / Re: I was given negative trust by member Vod for an opinion and would like help on: September 26, 2018, 12:42:46 PM
I think we should appreciate the fact that the OP himself told us that what he is believing is just an "opinion". It is hard for a flat earther to say those words as they really think that the Earth is flat and an existence of a circular earth is just what they call a fiction for them. But I agree to what others have said that people who are believing in a flat earth have severe mental health issues, because for one you won't even be a flat earther if you are open to facts being given by normal people. A flat earther simply denies the science involve to prove a fact and will just simply believe to what they think is real without any logical explanation behind it. With that being said I too am with Vod if he doesn't trust any flat earther in the forum.
2647  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why I can't give merit to anyone ? on: September 26, 2018, 10:35:43 AM
@iasenko, @Thirdspace, I didn't knew that. I thought that number of airdropped  Merits was determined by user rank and his activity, no matter he was active in 2017 or no. Seems that I was wrong. Well, good to learn something new, thanks guys!
You are right it all depends on the activity earned by the user but it will depend on how much the activity the user earned during that year (2017) so it still depends on the user being active or not. You can read it in the original announcement thread in the meta section that theymos created about the merits system.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.
So not all people even if they have the same ranks or activity have received the same sMerits to give after the announcement.
2648  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Pre-Season on: September 25, 2018, 07:22:55 PM
~snip~

Butler is looking for one those three things :

  • Go to a big market team
  • Choose a contending team
  • Get to a team which can offer him max contract

Bucks is neither one of those and in my opinion an awful fit, Jimmy ain't no sharpshooter like Middleton and teams, especially Bucks, need some sort of spacing for Giannis to be able to operate inside (Bledsoe is also not a good three-point shooter).

Jimmy Butler really does not have any choice of the Timberwolves decides that he will be traded to the Bucks. Remember a player who demanded a trade can request which team he prefers the most but the one who decides when and where he will moce is the owner or gm itself not the player. Middleton is definitely one of the pieces needed in order for this move to get going maybe adding Brogdon as well as another draft pick could entice the Wolves out of Miami's offer.
2649  Economy / Economics / Re: The gap between poor and rich countries, a major impediment to global adoption on: September 25, 2018, 06:17:24 PM
Undoubtedly, the acceptance of bitcoin is growing in a remarkable way, but most of the people involved in these field are people from Europe, Asia and America. For me who live in an underdeveloped country of Latin America I find it disappointing to see the little interest that people have in these technological issues, and the great ignorance that still prevails with respect to cryptocurrencies.

In addition, in these countries people have very few aspirations and do not seem interested in matters related to technology. And from what I see, in places like Africa, something similar seems to happen.

This type of educational, economic and technological limitations will only mean a delay for bitcoin to become a cryptocurrency of truly global scope and use.
I think you and your country needs to focus more on these three things first before you even think about Bitcoin being a global currency. Yes it is good that you are setting your sights to BTC becoming a global currency but it is actually achievable if everyone in your country is literate both educationally and technologically as there will be no existing barriers if that happens in the future. Right now what you can only hope for is that your government will find a way to have progress on the things you have mentioned.
2650  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-23] In Argentina, Investors Flock to Safe-Haven Bitcoin on: September 25, 2018, 05:37:36 PM
Argentina needs to turn into Venezuela 2.0 in order to become more news worthy. I haven't seen one bit of coverage on Argentina's financial problems locally, but almost daily plenty of Venezuela and its refugees.

You really have to dig into everything yourself if you want to know what's going on in the world, because news outlets only show you what they think is relevant for their income, which is somewhat retarded but also understandable.

It's a business and as long as that is the case, we'll have to accept that these things happen. I'm glad that everything is just a couple of clicks away on the internet, so we don't depend on them to feed us news.
Thinking of it, Argentina might be in the wrong direction as they are investing in Bitcoin not creating one of their own cryptocurrency unlike Venezuela where I think they are already planning a second kind of cryptocurrency after Petro and this time it is related to their central bank. Their strategy is of course better than what the Venezuelan Government is doing but in terms of risk I don't think this is a worthy trade off as they really are risking their own money into a volatile market, there is really no guaranteed safe-haven for their money.
2651  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🐵BitKong - BIG BONUSES every Day, Week and Month🎁 on: September 24, 2018, 07:58:25 PM
Mind to share the link here? May be need to check the details so every player will know what is going on right here because suddenly they have this thing but there is only winners and not even single winners replies it here

And you said about the wagering competition, how can you be so sure? I saw they are only having 10k bits as their first prize which is pretty small amount compare from their wagered amount
Unfortunately Bitkong's website does not produce a direct link on their mechanics but if you go to their website you will see a "Bonuses" tab and you will find the full mechanics under it. Also the Hall of Heroes or their leaderboard is just beside the game itself so there is no need for you to scroll on other pages. A lot of people are still unaware of this promo as it was unannounced in the forum so the winners might not be BCT members as well and the first of the prizes was awarded last September 20 which says that the promo is still new.
2652  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: ICO Regulations in the Philippines on: September 24, 2018, 06:30:03 PM
Since the best Export of the Philippines is their people (OFW), I can say that adopting cryptocurrency/blockchain technology is really a good idea so OFW's can now transfer money easily without going to any remittances. Philippines is a great place for cryptocurrency only if all people know how to invest, well its hard for the government to do that but this simple steps can become more big in the future.
Maybe you don't understand the basics of economics, The Philippines' citizens is not the only factor for their economic growth, as the government is actually doing a bold move with regards to cryptocurrency, just recently the Philippines particularly the province of Cagayan created CEZA short for Cagayan Economic Zone Authority which is focused on bringing in foreign investors particularly in the industry of trading, there is a maximum of 25 licenses to be given and a minimum worth of investment of 25 million dollars to be handed of for the first two years. Simply this news tells us if these foreign companies need to earn their investment back they need to persuade Filipinos to invest in their businesses which will be another strategy for them.
2653  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: ICO Regulations in the Philippines on: September 24, 2018, 05:01:42 PM
The Philippines is one of the most crypto-friendly countries not only in Asia but also in the whole world, and their SEC's Rules in ICOs is one example why. The Rules made by their SEC is only covering local start-ups and corporations or "corporations targeting Filipinos through an online platform", meaning if you are a foreign corporation and is promoting the ICO through other means besides an online platform then you are exempted from their rules and regulations given by them. Another good thing they do is they have an assessment for the ICO itself before it will be made available to the Philippine market which means if you see an ICO which is SEC approved you know that the chances of it being a fraud is low.
2654  Other / Meta / Re: Dear Newbies: Please don’t buy Merit! on: September 23, 2018, 08:31:32 PM
There might even be a far more worse consequence if merit selling happens prevalently on this Jr. Members (or even up to higher ranks). If it will be proven chances are theymos will do another readjustment to the merit requirements for these Jr. Members and this time they might include Members (rank) as well. theymos could easily increase the merit requirement of Jr. Members to 10 or 15 and Members to 20 or 30 if he see things like this necessary, and of course a lot of people will be affected with this new increase but if they will continue to patronize such kind of business I have no doubt that further changes in the merit system will happen.
2655  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predictions if Bitcoin ETFs are approved on: September 23, 2018, 07:26:51 PM
I see no long-term effect when Bitcoin ETFs are approve but I do agree with everyone who will say that it will create a minor price rally during the first few days/weeks when the announcement of approval is release and that is because a lot of people will see this as good news and traders (especially the whales) will use this to pump the prices up, it can be short or it can be long just what we have seen last December but to see if there will be long term positive effect on its fundamentals I doubt there will be even one.
2656  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why explorers have problems with segwit address? on: September 23, 2018, 06:21:48 PM
Even if popular block explorers don't support them other explorers are fully compatible with segwit addresses and this shouldn't be a problem at all because there are other alternatives existing out there that supports segwit addresses and their transactions and one of them is btc.com. Unlike segwit addresses being unclickable on the transaction you have given as example, the explorer of btc.com does show it just like how blockchain.com does it for legacy addresses.

To show you the difference here is the link in btc.com of the same tx id you have posted:

2657  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-20]A Big Vulnerable Bug in Bitcoin Software Could Have Indeed Crashed t on: September 21, 2018, 03:02:09 AM
So why did it crashed when we only finding out the reason why? If people have learned this in the first place this will br the main reason of the panic selling but it is my first time seeing this and it was a long time ago. It is kinda strange that this news will popped out a year later of the event of course this won't create more steam compared to when it is actually happening. I really want to know why BTC crashed but I don't think this is the real reason.
2658  Economy / Economics / Re: What can be done to make bitcoin stable? on: September 20, 2018, 09:03:08 PM
There is nothing you can do about it, if you want an investment to be stable then you must put your money in the blue chip stocks or fiat currencies like USD or Yen. Bitcoin is decentralized and hoping for it to become a stable currency is next to impossible and you won't really see BTC stay in one price just like what Fiat currencies are doing. Cryptocurrencies are unlike fiat currencies as its real nature is volatility and it what's make them profitable.
2659  Economy / Gambling / Re: FORTUNEJACK.COM |Deposit 777 play with 1777 mBTC |Live Casino, Slots, Betting on: September 20, 2018, 08:30:06 PM
To be fair I have never interested in blockchain based gambling websites but I am a huge fan of blockchain technology because it's really amazing, it's future. But I can't agree you in one task: A Casino that integrates crypto isn't more progressive to new technologies than others who doesn't. Usually owners do this because there are less opponents in crypto market, they are more anonymous and they have one payment way which is pretty easy to handle.
The article stayed true to how the gambling sites are benefiting to the blockchain technology but mainly the point being is because of the use of cryptocurrencies as the main mode of betting. The cryptocurrency market opened up a lot of convenience to a lot of people. First of their are people who want to enjoy the casino but they are too lazy to go, there are people where they don't have e-games sites on their country, there are people who don't want to be members in casinos, cryptocurrency gambling sites offer a way for them and it use up not their money but just their cryptocurrency which is more convenient compared to paying up with Paypal or your credit card.
2660  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin and Taxes on: September 20, 2018, 07:22:52 PM
I think bitcoin should be treated as a normal curreny like GBP or USD, to be honest you can treat it as a property and tax it but nowdays it is used as a payment method which excludes it from being a property, goverments should stop being materialistic and stop taxing everything.
So collecting tax is now about being materialistic now? Bitcoin as a property is taxable even before it has been recognized by the government and they have the right to tax everything as it is their main way of having income for the country which you will also benefit from. Taxes are what I say a necessary burden for us all as this is what makes the country up and running and continue its development. Now exempting income tax coming from cryptocurrency will be a big missed opportunity for the government as it will be a considerable amount, also if they exempt one stream a lot of people might take advantage and actually go to where they won't be paying taxes.
