2721  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US charges two Russian crypto hackers on: December 13, 2020, 12:31:05 PM
As long as these two remain in Russia, they are going to be safe. A part of the funds has been seized by the US authorities. But at this point I don't think that they can do much more than this. Especially after the controversy surrounding the arrest of Alexander Vinnik, I don't think that the Russians will cooperate with the American authorities (and deportation is a strict no-no).

One of the accused is an ethnic Greek and I assume him to have dual Russian-Greek nationality. At the most, the Americans can force the government of Greece to cancel his Greek passport.
2722  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-12-11] Why 2021 Is Set To Be Even Bigger For Bitcoin on: December 13, 2020, 12:21:14 PM
Facebook's coin (whatever it will be called) could not have been inspired by Bitcoin because in its essence it is something completely opposite to everything that is at the very core of what Satoshi Nakamoto invented. FB will eventually launch some kind of stablecoin, and we all know that such coins are completely pegged with the fiat currency that supports them - which opens up unlimited manipulation as seen in the case of Tether.

Can't put it any better than this. The Libracoin is completely opposite of everything Bitcoin stands for and it is more similar to a central-bank issued fiat currency rather than a decentralized cryptocurrency. In the end, there is going to be hardly any difference between the digital versions of fiat currency (such as PayPal/Visa), stablecoins such as USDT/USDC and Libracoin.
2723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whats the longest you have waited for one confirmation?? on: December 13, 2020, 12:11:28 PM
I don't remember exactly, but I believe that my longest wait lasted a week or so. This happened sometime in 2017, when I was moving coins from one of my wallets to another. Since I control both the wallets, I put a very low transaction fee (around 2 Sat/Byte). But the transaction took a long time to get confirmed and eventually I had to wait for around 6-7 days.
2724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A friendly reminder on: December 13, 2020, 12:01:17 PM
Well, its never been too late and you can invest or purchase whenever time you want because Bitcoin keeps growing overtime. You might find to expensive to buy right now but sooner or later Bitcoin will surge and this current price will be inexpensive. The only thing you must hone in this long term is to control your emotions and your patience. We're only just in the beginning so buckle up and accumulate more Bitcoin as much as you can.

If you have the patience and the ability to wait for 4-5 years, then there is no harm in investing at current levels. Those who invested in December 2013 had to wait almost 4 years to see their investment in green. The same happened to those who invested four years later, in December 2017. They are still in loss, but we can expect them to be in profit by next year. So if you can wait for that long, there is nothing wrong in investing in Bitcoin.
2725  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 12, 2020, 04:08:16 AM
Today there was an important milestone in the history of West Indian cricket. Joshua Da Silva became the first native-born white to play test cricket for West Indies, ever since Geoff Greenidge in 1973 (Brendan Nash played test cricket for West Indies from 2008-11, but he was born in Australia). Da Silva is of Portuguese origin, and his forefathers migrated from the island of Madeira (birthplace of Moises Henriques).

With Da Silva making his Test debut against New Zealand in Wellington this week, he becomes the first Caribbean-born white West Indian to play Test cricket since Geoff Greenidge in 1973.

I have heard about the accusation but did not bother to look too much into it. Now you are telling that they knew each other and they had a relation before Babar Azam was struggling and now he moved on in his life and she is public about the relationship. If that is the situation people do move on with their life, i was reading news headlines about sexual assault and i thought his career will be destroyed with accusations like that.

The lady claims that Babar had physical relations with her, and then broke off the relationship when he achieved success in cricket. In South Asia, this would be regarded as sexual assault, but in most of the other countries it would not be treated so. The two were not married, either formally or informally, and now the intention seems to be purely money-related.
2727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what do you think about USDT? on: December 11, 2020, 06:02:36 AM
USDT is very useful for trading, especially while dealing with highly volatile altcoins. But that said, I would never recommend keeping a lot of your funds in the form of Tether. USDT is a token issued by the Bitfinex exchange and a few years back they were accused of not fully backing up USDT with US Dollar. So there is always a small chance that the USDT=USD parity may be tested in the future.
2728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't invest for quick gains only on: December 11, 2020, 05:49:30 AM
There are projects out there with real use-cases. However, most investors are there for profit, not to support the project. Investors come in and out of new projects taking all the profit they can while they can, and that is how the market goes. Only a few people are doing their research and investing for real technology.

Some of the projects may have real use cases. But how much acceptability they are able to gain is very important. Also, we need to check the ability of the developers, to resolve security issues and bugs. Having a real use alone won't make the project a successful one. Another important aspect is the availability on major exchanges such as Binance and Huobi, which can result in an increase in daily trade volumes.
2729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Polkadot going to Kill Ethereum? on: December 11, 2020, 05:39:57 AM
Most of the cryptocurrency users haven't even heard about Polkadot. And the OP is claiming that it is going to kill Ethereum. The biggest strength for Ethereum is not its technology. On the other hand, its biggest plus point is its acceptability. Even now, more than 90% of the new tokens are being created in the ERC-20 platform. None of the other platforms can even come close.
2730  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 11, 2020, 05:15:37 AM
As expected, New Zealand is off to a good start against West Indies, in the second test. Henry Nicholls managed to score a century, and he is out there with Daryl Mitchell, with New Zealand looking pretty comfortable at 285/5. Remember that New Zealand has rested Kane Williamson, who is expecting the birth of his first child. Apart from Shannon Gabriel, the other West Indian bowlers looked out of form.
2731  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 10, 2020, 01:26:58 PM
Well i prefer 5 test match series whenever Pig 3 play against each other so i am bit pissed off that they are only playing 4 instead of 5  Grin. Its part of the previous FTP so facilitating Tri or quad series was out of the question, at least for now.

Matches between the Pig 3 are always competitive, and highly revenue generating. So they need to play as many matches as possible. So I too would have preferred 5 test matches instead of 4. IMO, the Pig 3 (India, England and Australia) needs to make sure that at least 50% of the matches they play are between themselves. This will reduce the incidence of one-sided matches and will make sure that the three cricket boards are able to generate good revenue.
2732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin end the dollar’s reign? on: December 10, 2020, 05:26:41 AM
Whether Bitcoin existed or not, the Dollar will end the Dollar's reign.    Roll Eyes

Fiat currencies don't last forever.  They can't.  With all debt-based money, eventual failure is an integral part of the recipe.  It's just how they function.  Some last longer than others, but they will all approach worthless at some point.

Fiat currencies won't last forever. But that is applicable for cryptocurrencies as well. The US Dollar has survived for more than two centuries, ever since it's introduction in 1792. Do you really think that any of the cryptocurrencies may last that long? Advancement in quantum computing will make the current technology for cryptocurrencies obsolete within the next few decades.
2733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Say btc is Not ponzi but its look like ponzi on: December 10, 2020, 05:02:14 AM
Who thinks Bitcoin looks like a Ponzi, that's wrong thinking. There are a lot of people who have a disadvantage investing in Bitcoin, they don't know the real Bitcoin, they only know as much as hear about Bitcoin, if they studied Bitcoin deeply, analyzed it and felt its benefits, maybe they wouldn't say that.

Investing directly in Bitcoin is one thing, and investing in some of the shady cryptocurrency projects is another. In 90% of the cases, the scam project has hardly anything to do with Bitcoin (examples are OneCoin and PlusToken), but the payments are being received mostly in BTC and ETH. The victims pay these scammers with their BTC/ETH, and when the promoters vanish with these funds the media is quick to highlight the Bitcoin link.
2734  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 10, 2020, 04:38:44 AM
When playing good in a T20 tournament fetches you good money and spot recognition why will these younger players concentrate on longer format? There are more fans of T20 globally than five days tournament and that is one of the primary reason these younger guys are concentrating and putting more effort in the shorter format. BCCI will only concentrate on format that earns them a lot of money and viewership. So, I doubt they will be focusing more in the loger format.

Financially, the T20 format may be important for the cricketers. But if they are more concerned about the fame, then they should not overlook the longer format. When someone talks about the stats (highest number of runs, top wicket takers), they always mention about these stats from the test cricket. I have almost never heard about anyone talking about the T20I stats.
2735  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 10, 2020, 04:25:35 AM
He was not that bad either, his numbers not painting clear picture but he looked comfortable against the Indian pacers,  He showed good temperament during both innings, he was bit unlucky at the first inning when he got out on very average ball. Situation might have been very different for him if he had the luck of Cameron.

Will Pucovski is a promising young player for Australia and I expect him to be a regular member of the squad within the next few years. He may be temporarily out of form, but that should not be held against him. Even star Australian batsmen such as David Warner had rough patches during their career (for example his bad form during the last Ashes series).
2736  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 09, 2020, 05:02:05 AM
He did okay captaincy in last WC though but India always reach in semis no matter who captaining the Indian side so i agree in limited over cricket he mess things up regularly. Only Rohit Sharma has capability of replacing him in the shorter format, Dhawan is big no as he can't even lead team in the franchise level.

I also believe that Rohit Sharma can be a good replacement. But then, Virat has captained the Indian team for such a long time. Critics may argue that it can have a negative impact on team bonding and morale (although Rohit has been a regular member of the squad for many years). And then there is always the concern that Rohit and Virat may form their own closed groups, just like the case we had when Dhoni was playing for India.
2737  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin betting on the 2020 US Presidential Election | Trump vs Biden on: December 09, 2020, 04:52:22 AM
Yes, iirc in nitrogen they paid the bets between two to three days (still have it archived in my account) I can't say if it's the same with most of the bookies back then. Even if the losing side concedes or not that's up to them to settle bets at their own preferred pace if it backfires then that's their fault for paying early. At this point it seems very unlikely it goes the other way around.

ROFL. If they are waiting for Trump to concede, then I am afraid that it is not going to happen anytime soon. The POTUS results came out more than a month ago. Those who won the bets deserve their winnings by now. I believe that none of the gambling sites have any solid reason to delay the payment, after December 14. That is when the electoral college will vote for the new president. The outcome of the voting from December 14 should be considered as final.
2738  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: December 09, 2020, 04:42:05 AM
Printing more money is not the worst way to solve problems in the current difficult economic situation and is a long-standing and proven economic tool in the hands of the state. Another question is how to sterilize the excess money supply after COVID 19, because it is not a big secret that money printing was actively used by governments to stimulate the economy before the epidemic.

Once the excess supply is created, there is no way to take it back. In the long-term, it will result in a massive hyperinflation. The governments have used the COVID 19 pandemic excuse to print banknotes like crazy. Even in the United States, trillions of USD worth of banknotes were printed during the pandemic period. The real impact from these measures will be visible in the next few years.
2739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Altcoin Safe for Investment on: December 09, 2020, 04:32:05 AM
First of all you can't generalize all the 10,000 or so altcoins. Investing in a top-10 altcoin such as LTC or ETH is different from investing in little known shitcoins such as Davinci Coin or Quantstamp. While it is safe to keep invested in the top-10 altcoins for the medium to long term, the same can't be said about the smaller shitcoins. A lot of research needs to be undertaken first, if you want to invest in the smaller coins.
2740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't be Emotional, Don't be Greedy on: December 09, 2020, 04:22:10 AM
The current crypto market is exciting as everyone is happy that new funds are being pumped into the space, investors are making profits and people are aiming for new ATH for bigger profits. I  remind us all not to forget to take profits, cut your greed and find new opportunities. Never be emotional about any project, buy when it's right, sell when it's right.

Agreed. Being emotional results in users holding shitcoins for the long-term, despite knowing that they have very little future potential. It takes a lot of courage to book losses, as the users don't want to admit that they made the wrong investment. But sometimes that is the only option available to save yourselves from complete forfeiture of your capital.
