27741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long before Bitcoin appears in a movie??? on: January 15, 2014, 06:40:18 PM
bitcoin also mentioned in TV series "person of interest" series 3 episode 13
27742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When is this going to stop? A warning about OpenEx... on: January 14, 2014, 06:28:12 PM
I'd take it one step further and say be weary of ANY bitcoin related site that is new and or tries to keep a certain level of anonymity .

100% agreement

individuals that want their own funds kept secret, fine, be anonymous. but a business, group, or people handling other peoples funds, need to be very very transparent. as transparent as being able to visit them and slap them with a wet fish if they do anything wrong
27743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 3 Unavoidable Problems for Bitcoin on: January 14, 2014, 04:05:41 PM
I'm sure some other people have the same thoughts about Bitcoins future, the fact is noone knows. But maybe there is information out there that i'm not aware of.

    1) Government regulations, Taxation, centralizing, or blantly outlawing bitcoin
research the prohibition. they tried to ban and control alcohol.. yet certain members only clubs and moonshine continued along with other methods to keep the alcohol flowing

    2) Government digital currencies, if bitcoins technology really catches on will we see governments forming their own regulated digital currencies?
right now fiat is mostly digital, when it comes to debit cards and such. so government producing a crypto currency wont be any different. bitcoin exists and grows purely because it is not a government owned asset.

    3) Security. 51% attacks and Quantum Computing (I understand SHA256). Quantum is still decades a head of us.
for someone to spend millions/billions just to ruin bitcoin, as oppose to spending less to get bitcoin and protect bitcoin, i see no reason why anyone , even government would do anything negative. it would be much like stealing gold and burying it, never using it and claiming gold is illegal

No, the three unavoidable problems for Bitcoin are:
    • Anonymous, remote, irrevocable transactions are the scammer's dream. This makes Bitcoin a scam magnet.
scams are only possible due to two things. 1. people trusting others they cant grab hold of and slap. 2. banks refunding scamers without question. if we get rid of banks refund policy and teach people due dilagence then scammers wont have an easy life. this is human error not bitcoin.
    • The confirmation process is too slow for real-world commerce.
to send a bitcoin takes the time of scanning a QR code and pressing send. to process a credit card takes swiping the card and typing pin number in... both equal. but for merchant to receive funds of value takes 10 minutes to confirm with bitcoin, but days/weeks for credit cards.
    • The volatility is so high that nothing real can be priced in Bitcoins.
i can go to many websites with bitcoin payment methods, i see many with bitcoin prices. i do not see a problem. the volatility part is a long term thing, not a worry short term. and afterall bitcoin is new and expanding. volatility is expected in a expanding market. so dont cut the legs off the horse before its had a chance to run

27746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Project Bitcoin UPDATE: What crazy thing or experience can u sell me for .15btc? on: January 13, 2014, 08:09:19 PM
i would love it if the only currency used was bitcoin. none of this buy something for bitcoin convert to fiat then buy something else.. a pure product->bitcoin->product->bitcoin->product->bitcoin. and so on.

i have nothing against one product swapped for another product direct, but keeping it with the bitcoin theme where fiat is not involved even up to the point of finding the estate agent that will accept bitcoin to buy the house, now that would be the true bitcoin challenge. non of this converting to fiat stuff, or else it just turns into that fiat story of the paperclip into a house.. a pure bitcoin challenge would show, what already has been done in fiat, it can be done in bitcoin too.

the no alchemy part sounds great which is why i hope this quote

In essence, I'm offer $300 USD credit toward the purchase of any hand-tooled leather ware desired that Martin Basurto can produce.

You would only have to sell the credit for whatever, giving me the proceeds, whereupon I'll convert the BTC to fiat and give to Martin. I can even go slightly better with this offer. I'll double whatever you sell the 0.15 BTC for, thus if you get $200 USD, a $400 USD credit is made available, up to $500 USD for a $1,000 USD credit.

    ~Bruno Kucinskas

PS: Will work out any particulars to make this as much as an attractive offer as possible to help in your venerable endeavor.

translates to offering 0.3BTC credit toward the purchase of any hand-tooled leather ware desired that Martin Basurto can produce.
and then sell the product for a higher BTC price, so if he sells it for upto 0.5btc he will get 1btc
27747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eToro launches Bitcoin trade on: January 13, 2014, 05:10:58 PM
It's like having your very own cake....... but not being able to eat it all.

its more like wanting to buy an ipad but being sold an apple mousepad, calling it a ipad.

27748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eToro launches Bitcoin trade on: January 13, 2014, 02:40:04 PM
their treating it like bitcoin is a company and your betting on the price. meaning your not actually buying bitcoin and neither is etoro on your behalf

you might aswell get ablank peice of paper and ask a friend to buy it of you and u just write down the details on a piece of paper.. this will not affect bitcoin prices as etoro are not buying from any exchange.

its all fake trading based on following actual trades on actual exchanges that are unrelated to etoro, this is why i think eft's and other crap are not worth it. its great for FIAT traders to make more FIAT. but those that truly understand bitcoin and want bitcoin to succeed. etoro has nothing to do with bitcoin.. its just a logo on their webpage and a chart that changes,, no actual bitcoins are traded on etoro.

    its like their printing fakecoins
27749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you ever consider insuring your bitcoin holdings? on: January 13, 2014, 06:51:25 AM
the simplist way of thinking about it is this

would you trust a third party with your FIAT bank account numbers and debit card PIN number, and ontop of it be charged 2% of your bank accounts content to keep it safe?

or would you do what the rest of the world does, and have it printed on a piece of paper if your memory is not good, and know that only you have the access to your funds.

bitcoin is suppose to remove third party trust. such as banks. hundreds of years ago people use to store their wealth personally, but because of security and other issues something came along and offered a service to store peoples wealth. what came next. giving those insured parties a piece of paper in the form of an IOU. these service providors became banks, as we know them today.

lets not make bitcoin go down the same route.
27750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can your face serve as your Bitcoin address? on: January 12, 2014, 04:56:30 AM
to turn my face into a private key.......... hmmmm.. lets think about this.

    1. the fact that using my face to make a private key is iffy. EG my chubby cheeked with zits face at 16, differs to my slender face now in 30's. which will differ again to the saggy, veiny and wrinkled skin like old leather when my old age.
    2. i would have to use a photo to ensure 100% conversion every time to get at my private key.
    3. others could google image/social network search to gain peoples images
    4. it involves third party trust

so lets make a fiat comparison

would i entrust a third party with all my debit card pin numbers and accounts with the promise from them that no one can access it without my face... simple answer is no

bitcoin is suppose to be self managed and self secured. we do not need third party promises
27751  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I know what satoshi is doing right now!! on: January 11, 2014, 11:39:04 AM
    satoshi is not coding bitcoin

try researching better before opening topics of speculation.

atleast look at the programmers in bitcoin foundation EG Gavin. look at what they are doing to ensure a stable bitcoin future.

27753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If someone stole my wallet.dat file and...... on: January 10, 2014, 08:03:28 PM
    1. yes its a race. the first one who passes the 'confirm' wins

    2. if its encrypted using a easily dictionary brute force attack then its only time before they get to your coins. so i would suggest you use your backup and move the coins to a fresh address, leaving them with a empty address once they get into the wallet.

    3. as for the DPR scenario, he should have had a relative entrusted with a backup, and as soon as he was arested and his wallet file in the hands of the authorities, that relative could have used the backup to move the coins to new addresses
27754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just paid my Patent lawyer and incorporated with Bitcoin. on: January 10, 2014, 06:45:49 PM
well done, leaving us on a cliff hanger .. maybe like TV show cliffhangers, you throw out a little taster, without giving away the whole plot.

EG mentioning if its to do with legit main streaming or illicit anonymous activity

    (hoping for legit mainstreaming effort)
    27755  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Arbitrage --- BITSTAMP---->MTGOX on: January 10, 2014, 10:48:11 AM
im surprised people are still trying mtgox and not yet given up..

mtgox is only higher in price because people cannot cash out, so they are always left with the only option. to buy back their bitcoin and withdraw the bitcoin. thus eating up the sell wall, causing a rise.

what makes ma laugh is that there is still a high amount of people that use the mtgox as the price guide, thus when mtgox drops everywhere else drops. when mtgox doesnt move, everywhere else doesnt move.

if only people would wise up and let mtgox fade into the background until it actually functions as a proper exchange, and let bitstamp or another exchange be the prime valuer of bitcoin
    27756  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's make a Bitcoin commercial on: January 10, 2014, 03:54:27 AM
    is there a dollar advert?
    is there a euro advert?
    is there a pound advert?
    is there a yen advert?

    no no no no no

so why would there be a bitcoin advert.. the answer is that there wouldnt be any reason. what there would be though is adverts for bitpay, mtgox, btc-e..
basically any services that use the currency.

that is why we see visa adverts, forex company adverts, etc. because these are services that process transactions for the currency. So if you want to make an advert about something then make an advert about a company that has the most easiest, straightforward and userfriendly way for people to play with bitcoin.

oops.. there are not any companies that are truly 'granny friendly' to obtain/transfer/cash out of bitcoin. so i guess before an advert is produced. a mainstream friendly company has to exist.

so lets concentrate on that. lets not run before we walk, or we will just crash again like a toddler falling on its ass, and taking longer to gets its confidence back to take another step

27760  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be on the lookout for this scam.. Just got it in my email on: January 07, 2014, 12:24:45 AM
this scam has been going around for a few months. its supposedly written as a message to a friend of the sender asking them to sort out the issue, and appear like the email was sent mistakenly to the recipients.

a ploy to make the recipients feel that they have won the jackpot because someone (apparently) stupidly sent them their wallet.

this is not the case, its a ploy to get people to download scam software that will risk your own wallet.

do not touch emails with attachments unless you know the recipient personally and can slap them with a wet fish if they mess with your own wallet
