A Nice how-to prevent this problem , written out maybe a good thing then! A lot of valid points have been brought up, but seems all are easily remedied by a good how to.
Secondly, maybe if a post exists with Lawyers that work with BTC , and are trusted should be included in this how-to.
Another option IS to start a service that helps people easily get trained on BTC, or at least one that could handle the transfer from someone who did pass away, to their family in a seemless way.
kosta
well that would be the same guide all noobs to bitcoin should use, not just deceased families

put it in your will. and treat the paper wallet exactly like a bearer bond, store it safe and just put its location in the will
obviously if the funds disappear after you decease but before the family gets to hear the will, you know the lawyer pre-read the will and emptied the private key of the separate paper wallet (bearer bond) dry.
but if the value is enough, eg say btc gos high each, the lawyer may just abscond same with writing in a will the keys to my safety deposit box containing 1 billion dollars in bearer bonds is located under the fishtank.. if it suddenly disappears after death atleast the police have something to go on... (thinking for 2 seconds) i have came to the conclusion this is yet another prequel scare tactic the OP may be dreaming up to then offer a dead-man switch service to contact family, offer them advice on how to reclaim bitcoins, only if the bitcoins are held in trust by him lol.. there's atleast a dozen of these brain farts tried out over the last few years. but the simple solution: put enough info in the Will to find a paper wallet without actually putting the paper wallet in the will..

if its above $100, use btc-e.com.. theres no fee

also to add:
do a simple Who-is search for m-banco.com
Creation Date: 27-feb-2010 Expiration Date: 27-feb-2014
i cant see he had the idea before 2010..

guess the OP hasnt checked out the 12,000 plus food merchants, the hundreds of bars, pubs, etc. the cafe's etc all accepting bitcoin.
should we treat this as bad on him for not exploring beyond the front page of this forum. or blame ourselves for not publicising all the businesses to make people aware they exist

i have spend my hoard 3 times over, i just have knowledge and experience to recoup my hoard but the simple point is unless there is a variety of ways for people to decide to spend their coins directly, eventually 21 tonnes of mannure can be worth more to farmers then 21 million bitcoins. because mannure has a multitude of uses. so we really need a retail push and a slowdown on the mining publicity. many noobs come into bitcoin thinking they can turn their gaming machines into millionaire makers. this is not the case. in the real world the richist ppeople are not gold barons digging for gold, that was so 19th century. now the richest people are people like the walmart family, microsoft, apple. the people that have product to sell.
|
|
|
knowing that someone is spending is not as important. knowing there are many places to spend them on and that people can generally live some form of life on bitcoin is more important.
i think a push to get entrepreneurs away from mining projects and into retail projects is the way forward. there is still a lack of grocery food and standard (non gimmicky) clothing that needs to be filled for bitcoin to be considered an everyday use item.

Having my mBTC taxed is a small price to pay for a low-fee and fast decentralized global financial transaction system.
having bitcoin taxed.??. no, because bitcoin is not government owned.. thats like an american being taxed by france because he does a trade using us dollar. it has nothing to do with france.. the dollar is not owned by the french so the french should not be taxing dollars bitcoin should remain nregulated and untaxed. but if you convert it to fiat, then yea expect taxes
|
|
|
Some in the Bitcoin community are already in favor of regulation.
MOST of the community want bitcoin unregulated. but agree with the regulations revolving around the exchange to FIAT. i personally prefer experienced and licenced financial institutions to control the FIAT to bitcoin exchanges.. much more then some 17yo zit faced guy that can run off at a moments notice. but for the: bitcoin for other altcoins bitcoin for goods bitcoins for services bitcoins for everything else should remain unregulated, but atleast follow a certain moral compass and understanding of security risks, which we all independently learn and use to control our own funds

i laugh at people who think they are math experts.
there are 2 (followed by 160 zero) possible combinations.. some of you naively believe that if you start at 1 and count upwards it would take 2(followed by 160 zero's) to find a collision.
this would only be the case if the addresses were made in lets say Hex of all F's..
but in reality ITS RANDOM
the addresses can be ANYWHERE between 1 and 2 (followed by 160 zero's).
meaning its just as likely that a randomiser picked 10 as it would pick 100,000,000,000,000.
with an estimated 84mill addresses being used, there is a chance that one of these 'used' addresses is randomised in the low range.
put simply
its random. they are not all clumped up at the far end of the spectrum.
to add to that depending on the degree (amount of significant figures) were used before hashing and converting, can far reduce the potential 'luck'.
this is why i feel the bitcoin foundation are rightly so in adding the new feature for version 0.9 of bitcoin-QT to not require random addresses per transaction.

the main reason people think its not used for many legit things is simple.
LACK OF ADVERTISING
i look on all of those map websites advertising bitcoin businesses and yet i do not see very many, which is strange because i know of many bitcoin businesses that are in certain area's that are not on these maps.
there also needs to be a bitcoin edition of 'yellow pages' where it lists all the businesses.
take for instance foodler, they have Food delivery from over 12,630 top-rated restaurants. all indirectly accepting bitcoin. yet i do not see 12k restaurants listed on the maps

I get laid and smoke weed, but; So he went outside and I hid the bullets from his gun so he could not kill me then, or later in my sleep. Isn't right... he pretends to be a libertarian, but thinks because someone has a gun they are going to kill him.... ... paranoia

in short: he pestered his stepdad who he lives with about the charity, endlessly and the stepdad got angry that finshaggy wont shut up about it, after all the stepdad did just receive medical bills and funeral bills to pay off. how would you feel if a weed smoking reject hounded you for a large lump of cash. We texted all day yesterday about the charity we plan to set up for my dead brother, and the discussion was respectful and hopeful even. Then when he walked in the door he slammed it, and yelled at me about a bike that had been knocked over in the garage. And a door my younger brother had left open when searching for his jacket, and blamed me for both. I asked if we could speak about the charity, as we had planned in our texts and he said "I'm not in the mood to talk to you", and it was literally in the tone of a gremlin, which makes me think he is thinking evil thoughts. So he went outside and I hid the bullets from his gun so he could not kill me then, or later in my sleep.
My step dad has told me twice in my life that he is sorry for being the dick he is (so he acknowledges it), then he does this: I taught both my brothers to walk and talk, literally. I trained them when I was 11 or 12, and since then I have answered EVERY question they ask of me. Then yesterday he had the nerve to tell me all I do is play video games with them, and he did everything else.
Then I asked him later in the day "Can we talk about the charity" He said "I don't have time right now", then I asked "when do you leave" He said" Tomorrow". I asked, "when today would be a good time talk?"
Then he said in his gremlin voice "we will talk when I get back on the seventh", which makes me think he plans to kill me on the seventh. so because the stepdad refused to talk about a charity (giving finshaggy funds to travel the world to promote nut awareness (laugh)) finshaggy wants to treat the aggression as a sign of murderous intent. i recommend anyone sitting in basements smoking weed to learn from finshaggy about how you may end up, unless you get out your basement and get laid on a regular bases. weed=paranoia weed=wild imagination weed=retardation weed=empty bank balance weed=begging others for money. sex gives you a better 'high' with less of the weed side effects.

well thats a great business plan, but atleast they have a business name and a 'we' meaning theres more then one person looking for a salery, while sitting on their hands.

both posters above have no idea what they are talking about the UK have made no decision
Fiat money is money that derives its value from government regulation or law. The term fiat currency is used when the fiat money is used as the main currency of the country. The term derives from the Latin fiat ("let it be done", "it shall be").[1]
bitcoin will not be declared as the main currency of that country.
commodity: raw material used to produce/ create other products or materials.
in the UK bitcoin is still 'out of scope' when it comes to HMRC. but when converting it into pound coins, you then have to declare as income, which has the income tax rules.
they have no official decision, but from the 'tests' they perform to categorise things. bitcoin fits more 'personal asset' tests then anything else.

what they are saying is message them back with the payment references account numbers etc. that is what is meant as not seeing payment instructions..
hopefully these details match yours
Details of Payment: FFC ACC.YYYYYYYY, TRANSFER TO OWN ACC ID XXXX
usually when you do a wire transfer to them your bank has a box that says reference or details of payment. that is where you would put the ' details of payment'. where the XXXX Account ID is your unique usernumber which is 4 digits long
i Y'd out their account number so that it doesnt invade their privacy. compare the rest of the bank details you sent to with the details found on the deposit area of the finances tab inside your account.
if you put in something different in the reference/details of payment box. tell them exactly what you wrote so they can match it to yours. also ask your bank for the day/time it arrived at their end to help them look through their payment logs.
BTC-e are usually great if you get passed the language barrier

i have found the best way to talk to them is to add to skype
btc-e.com
and use google translate into russian and then explain the whole story. i have tried with other issues writing in english, 3 responses saying funds not deposited even though that was not the question.. then after they read the ready prepared russian translation they responded very fast.
dont pass over emails or passwords(no log in details). just the username of the btc-e account along with the story.
EG:
привет. мое имя пользователя: ххххххх 2 недели назад я послал $ YYYY к вам. банк подтверждает мои деньги были доставлены: Майзус Финансовые услуги, LTD
- replace xxxxxxx with your btc-e username (the public one that appears on trollbox) replace YYYY wit the amount sent.
the translation translates to this hi. my username is: xxxxxxx 2 weeks ago i sent $xxxx to you. my bank confirms the money was delivered to: Mayzus Financial Services, LTD
