27781  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox account verification pending for 2 months now on: December 31, 2013, 02:46:08 AM
Because I wanted to transfer money from Mt Gox for xmas, I started the verification process 2 months ago. So far it is still pending. I sent Mt Gox several emails about this but every time I get a standard response. They state that the verification process only takes 2 weeks but it is pending now for almost 2 months. I am very, very disappointed because I have quite a lot of money invested in Bitcoins and I wanted to buy a special present for xmas and now it looks like Mt Gox doesn't want to cooperate. How do I get in contact with Mt Gox without receiving a standard response? Who can I contact for legal advise against Mt Gox if they fail to reply?

have you atleast sent them valid information. or atleast a multitude of different identifying documents to ensure they have something to process. if not then also sign up to coinbase BTC-E and other exchanges and file your information with them. the first one to authorise you will obviously get your bitcoin for you to then get your FIAT.

i personally gave up on mtgox months ago,
27782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NSA can rob peoples BTC wallet in new devices such as the iphone on: December 31, 2013, 02:40:03 AM
the NSA are not that special. so will people stop FUDDing the forums with government conspiracies.

if you want some bitcoin related evidence that NSA are hopeless. look at the DPR news. the NSA had to send DPR's wallet over to the UK's intelligence office to brute force the password. the NSA cant crack encryption, nor do they have the computer power or skill to bruteforce.
27783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for the General Public - a new site on: December 31, 2013, 02:17:01 AM

nastybit - good point on the logo, I may just do some brainstorming this week to make it look less shady

im not sure you can ever get a perfect 'figure' to exist on a website. most 'binary options' 'payday loan' 'credit card' websites always feature a single person or a family with such happy cheesy smiles that it makes the whole site look fake and cheezy. instead maybe a silhouette of a group of people faded as a light grey colour as oppose to either black shadow. or truecolor image of cheesy smiling happy people.

that way with a light grey silhouette it does not draw the eye to it as a black mass, nor does it have the overly happy 'cheese'
27784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin does not work for porn on: December 31, 2013, 12:28:28 AM
why bitcoins should work for porn.

1. bitcoin was designed to prevent companies just taking out cash from your account without request, simply because you forget. and any porn company relying on this form of theft should not be in business as its not good customer service.

2. instead of paying a monthly fee of a few dollars for unlimited access. bitcoins allows small transaction. it has been proven that a pay per view of EG $x per show earns more from regular customers then a $xx a month flat fee.

3.affiliates can get paid within 10 minutes and know that there will be no chargebacks to worry about. nor can affiliates abuse the payment system as they cannot simply abuse/grab money from other peoples accounts to make their ratings/commission look good. meaning porn sites do not need the expense of high security payment processors

4. if you are using a porn site that requires credit card details and has the scammy re-bill system then you truly would be that naive to think bitcoin is not better for both customer or business
27785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does It Make Any Sense for Overstock.com to Accept Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2013, 02:36:46 AM
Quote
Right now, merchants seem to accept Bitcoin for three main reasons: They want press coverage, they’re libertarian fellow travelers, or they’re selling drugs.

what a narrow minded thing to say. i guess the writer of the article thinks that there are only 3 merchants in the bitcoin ecosystem, one being owned by a libertarian, one selling drugs (well thats gone now) and the third that doesnt do much real world business so is getting alot of free advertising through bitcoin.

yet..

i count over 20k merchants and thats just the ones i know about and all of them have different reasons to accept bitcoin
27786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 'Bitcoin dealers' wearing yellow trousers and orange shoes on: December 30, 2013, 01:07:31 AM
What do you think about this trend?
People that trade bitcoin on the street would follow this trend: to wear yellow trousers and orange shoes!
What do you think?

Ronald McDonald?

now please stop sniffing the glue, take the tin foil hat off and atleast research stories before posting on the forum
thanks

What's the point? He has posted an article from theverge, which perhaps covers many bitcoin related news
The only person you should point your finger to is every US citizen

the point being, is if your going to post an article, atleast post it with valid information, with actual valid sources, which actually has some substance to it that relates to bitcoin.

his post is more like reporting a tornado which was referenced from a news article by the national geographic about them recording the first ever ant fart..
27788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Miners to be taken over by NSA on: December 30, 2013, 12:13:19 AM
more chinese whispers.

1. the verve talks about laptops of known suspects being seized at delivery to install malware. (no mention of bitcoin miners)
2. the verve mentions the information was gleemed from another news source, "der speigel"
3. der speigel mentions the NSA's tool kit (ANT)
4. der speigel does not mention bitcoin miners nor the use of such malware installations on ALL electronic deliveries.

so this is the OP turning a small story of a few known terrorists/corporations having malware installed. and having that story manipulated into stories that it affects everyone and every piece of electronics, including bitcoin.

now please stop sniffing the glue, take the tin foil hat off and atleast research stories before posting on the forum

thanks
27789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Beware of BTC! Not backed by central entity, no security in case of default!" on: December 29, 2013, 06:20:21 PM
well the government has always been like this.
even the police have slogans such as "to serve and protect" yet if you call them about being attacked they take upto an hour to turn up. but if you call them to inform them of a theft from a business or a cop being shot, they arrive in minutes..

to serve and protect themselves.. is the missing word in the slogan

and the banks have similar slogans
27790  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your thoughts on when BTC will reach $1000 again? on: December 29, 2013, 03:12:50 AM
as soon as the christmas and new year retail sales period for fiat customers has finished, then they will put their left over fiat back into investments
27791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inspiration on: December 29, 2013, 01:13:52 AM
I'm not having much luck trading bitcoin. Hard trading is hard. I'm also having a lack of inspiration. Anybody got any inspirational ideas to promote and profit from the coin we call bit?

In terms of mining I've always had technical problems mining with a GPU. It hasn't seemed to work for me. Also, minings over for ordinary people, right? Waste of time. The difficulty is way too high. Way too high. I don't know what people's obsession with mining is.

I appreciate your input but: NEXT!

bitcoin mining with a geforce card = problems
bitcoin mining with ATI= pennies worth of bitcoins a week for £$ worth of electricity bills

GPU mining is like trying to pickaxe mine gold along side a guy that has an excavator and dynamite..... goodluck with that.

as for trading, it is not automatic profit. it takes skill and good judgement of when to buy and sell, looking at the volume as well as the 'walls' that are near the spreadline. if you are not confident mining or exchange trading, then i would recommend retail to you.

EG buy products at whole sale and stick a bitcoin price that is 25%+ of cost. when it sells cash out the initial cost (leaving the 25%+ as bitcoin) and restock the products. this way you make 25% profit.

if you are not a retailer, then sale your skills, EG if a gardener, programmer, consultant then sell your skills for a bitcoin wage
27792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: localbitcoins vs exchange on: December 28, 2013, 05:37:44 PM
Could someone please explain me why trading on localbitcoins is considered legal but exchanges are illegal?

Exchanges are just automating the orders. I'm missing something obvious here?

simply put:
exchanges have bank accoutns where people deposit FIAT. this bank account is owned by the exchange owner. this requires regulation and licencing to act as a middleman (  in relation to FIAT swapping between different accounts)

localbitcoins only holds the bitcoin as escrow. the FIAT never touches a bank account of localbitcoins.com owner. thus its not in the regulatories remit.

government regulators deem localbitcoins as private/ domestic transactions. where as an exchange is a business, which requires certain standards to ensure individuals FIAT deposits are looked after properly, and that no fraud, laundering is taking place
27793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Effects of China and India News on BTC Price on: December 28, 2013, 04:45:58 PM
you guys seem to be making things up as you go along. please re-read the banks articles especially the link that shows the banks advisory. do not just believe the media/forum users opinion of what has been wrote. actually read the advisory.
http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/BS_PressReleaseDisplay.aspx?prid=30247

1. its an advisory EG advice, not law.
2. if you read it properly you will see it talking about exchanges that have not seeked approval. meaning the basement dwelling teenagers who cant be arsed to buy a licence or meet regulatory standards will get shut down.
3. india has not been a big impact because of smaller volume and because its not a complete shut down, its just a warning such as what USA and europe was given.

Quote
No regulatory approvals, registration or authorisation is stated to have been obtained by the entities concerned for carrying on such activities.

meaning as of that advisory being released, no bitcoin business has bothered to get a licence or seek advice on how to meet regulatory standards.

looking deeper into the actual rules set by india's FEMA. it is noted that 'individuals' cannot simply exchange funds privately, when doing so they need to do it through a regulated exchange/bank within india which has policies such as reporting all transactions to FEMA. this means doing a wire transfer to a friend in england to swap funds is not allowed. but requesting a bank to do it with all of their regulatory paperwork can be done.

in simple terms localbitcoins wire transfer self service is not allowed without the india individual filling in the banking paperwork.
in simple terms if you want to be a proper exchange then GET A LICENCE, ensure you play with the FIAT side of the exchange to meet INDIA's criteria and there will be no problem.

27794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin In India Under attack :- global community please help on: December 28, 2013, 07:17:15 AM
why oh why do you guys manipulate the written word and try to exadurate what its all about.

its the same thing as EVERY country. if your going to touch FIAT (be an exchange) you need to get regulated

Quote
No regulatory approvals, registration or authorisation is stated to have been obtained by the entities concerned for carrying on such activities. As such, they may pose several risks to their users, including the following:

the governments of all countries do not want to risk large sums of FIAT being syphoned through basement dwelling teenagers who dont care about security, protection ETC.

so if you want to operate a exchange in india GET A LICENCE.

i cannot believe after 35 replies on this topic, that no one else has read the full articles and offered this proper advice.
but instead used it purely as a anti-government rant

again ill repeat
so if you want to operate a exchange in india GET A LICENCE.
27795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Authorities Swoop Down on India’s Biggest Trading Platform Buysellbitco.in on: December 28, 2013, 04:06:43 AM
this news topic is not a story about india hating bitcoins. its yet another story about governments hating basement dwelling teenagers thinking they have the experience and trust to handle millions of fiat without bothering to get licenced to show they have trust.

seriously guys. if your going to touch fiat as part of your business.. GET REGULATED!!
27796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just out of Newbie looking for advice and want to make statement on: December 27, 2013, 04:52:25 AM
initially when buying buycoin direct, you are purchasing them at a premium. which then leaves you waiting longer for the rise to make profit. the best solution is to not buy bitcoin direct. but to:

find a product worth selling EG T-shirts, clothing, custom cups/mugs/beer glasses. pen knifes (the list is endless) and sell them for a bitcoin price.

EG
buying $1000 of bitcoin direct = 1.2btc today if lucky
buying $1000 of product and selling at profit = 2BTC if lucky

and then put that 2BTC into exchanges or other investments to increase further or sell out 1.2btc for FIAT, rebuy prducts and resale for BTC, thus swinging a 0.8btc return.

alot of people think the only way to earn bitcoin is to mine it. yet "working" for bitcoin or selling products for bitcoin are other ways to earn bitcoin. .
if you feel you are "expert level" of understanding bitcoin, compared to the local population, you can also set up local meetings to introduce people into bitcoin, thus earning bitcoin from:
consultation fee's
selling your bitcoin at a premium (and you buying in cheaply as explained above)
when people at the meetup want beer, they pay you bitcoin at a premium and you pay the bar/pub FIAT (thus keeping the premium)
if you are an expert at theology, offer tutoring classes for bitcoin.
if you have a part time work in a grocery store/retail/bar. ask the manager if they would allow customers to pay the company in bitcoins. and you will exchange the bitcoins for fiat to help the manager. this will allow you to set preferential rates and get more bitcoin into mainstream.

there are many idea's, the world is your oyster, anything you can think of to make FIAT also applies to making bitcoin
27797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Biggest Flaw with Bitcoin that Could Crash the Entire System on: December 26, 2013, 11:57:02 PM
anyone that attempts a 51% attack knows they can mess up the chain and cause all their hard work to become useless(meaning devalue bitcoin to a point their hard work is not even worth the cost) so its never in the benefit, no matter how tempting it is.

it is also noted that most of the big ASIC farms actually use more then 1 pool to spread their hashrate and to atleast get the most bitcoins from every block so big farms like ghash.io will spread out their hash power once they become to independently dominant on the network
27798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain size on: December 25, 2013, 12:03:13 AM
the solution is clear.. there is no problem..

the 1mb block size (per 10 minutes) calculates as a maximum capacity of 52gb a year. so far in the last near on 5 years blockchain has only accumulated 14.5gb of the nearly 260GB (5 years)of possible space.

so this shows that the blocks are not anywhere near getting filled to even be close to the 52gb a year capacity. and even after 10 years IF every block was filled from now on. that is only half a terrabyte of disk space.

now thats 10 years of full to capacity usage.. so chances are the blockchain may be less.

now i want you to cast your mind back to 10 years ago, where ADSL was only just poping up, and 120gb hard drives were concidered extreme..

nowadays internet speeds are 10meg on average and upto 100meg.. as oppose to the 512k-2mb 10 years ago.

so imagine what would be classed as "standard" in the next decade. we would not think half a terrabyte was very much and the download speed would not be a problem for noobs to get hold of the whole blockchain.

so dont worry about the future, the future will look after itself with technology advances
27799  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NSA paid RSA $10mm to subvert encryption on: December 22, 2013, 08:56:13 AM
NSA aint that smart anyways.

they pay off someone to make back doors and they ask the UK's intelliagence office to hack a encrypted file of DPR using a dictionary library bruteforce method.

which both prove NSA is not a threat to bitcoin
27800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There have to be so many people who know who Satoshi really is on: December 22, 2013, 05:53:16 AM
whenever satoshi talked to people it was on IRC and forums like this.

so Doublelucky by replying to you with an idea or a comment, does that magically mean i know your real life name? ... nope
does your entire family and real life friends know you as Doublelucky, or is that just a pseudonym you use for people you talk to online.

satoshi is to bitcoin, is as Steve Wozniak was to Apple. yet no one cares about wozniak. everyone cares about Jobs (GavinA)

as for what brought you to bitcoin, being it that satoshi's secrecy is sexually appealing to you. that there, is more reason not to reveal him so that you never lose that sexy feeling about bitcoin.

i also wish people asking who satoshi is, would atleast stick to one forum thread asking that question. there must be atleast 1000 of these threads asking the same question. and atleast a new thread popping up each week, once the last thread disappears off of page one of this forum.
