281  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: December 09, 2013, 08:07:56 AM
So... have we heard any official performance/power efficiency numbers for the production chip with the special non-shorting production substrate and hot off the line PCB?

The only thing that I saw was the test chip they looked at had 95 of 96 cores functioning, but no tested max speed and/or power draw at the tested speeds.

This is what I want to know too!
282  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Yet another Tax thread for the US on: December 08, 2013, 10:44:08 AM
Sorry, but the answer isn't clear on any other threads, and that may be the answer. When I file my taxes next year, what are the current thoughts on how to pay taxes on bitcoin? As a foreign currency which the gains need to be reported yearly? And if greater than $10,000 the account has to be reported? Those rates of course at ones marginal tax rate. Or as a capital gains vehicle like gold or silver? Only reporting the realized gain when the asset is sold? At an extremely favorable rate if held for greater than 1 year?

I do have one other question non binding give me some tips or references to where I could find the information. Can an LLC invest in something like gold? (Yes that means bitcoin if it were considered a commodity.) If a company were to have $100,000 of profit, could they take that profit and invest in gold and essentially defer the taxes this year and hold the asset for the required year and one day. Then when it is sold, they would pay the capital gain taxes instead?

No, don't treat it as a foreign currency. Consider it a commodity. If you hold your coins more than a year, pay long term capital gains on it. If they are held for less than a year, pay short term capital gains. And btw, gold and silver are treated as collectables, and not subject to the normal capital gains rules.

Yes, only report the realized gain when the asset (the bitcoins) are sold. If you mine them, though, you need to report the value of every coin you mine at the time you mine them and pay income tax on them.

You are not going to save any money by investing in gold. First of all, gold never qualifies for long term capital gains treatment. It is always considered a collectable and taxed at a higher rate.

Let's say you bought bitcoins cheaply and then when they appreciated you used them to buy gold. Well, at the point you spent the coins to buy gold you would owe capital gains on the value of bitcoins when you spent them (subtracting the purchase price of the coins, of course). And then later, when you sold the gold, you would have to pay collectables tax on any appreciation of the gold from the price you bought it at (assuming it went up in value).
283  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: USA capital gains on: December 08, 2013, 10:17:01 AM
you can do a little research before seeking help. i just looked up some info here http://www.bankrate.com/finance/money-guides/capital-gains-tax-rates-1.aspx

capital gains taxes apply if your taxable income is less than $35k (single) or $70k (joint).. otherwise, you don't have to pay them. so if you don't make that much money, you can buy/sell as you like.. so long as your total income does not exceed $35k. you also need to own the asset for more than 1 year before selling it, so no day trading.

I'm trying to actually get through this, how does it work if 100% of my income was capital gains? Say I bought for negligible amounts of $ back in 2010, and cashed out $100K this year. Is it 0% on all of it, 0% on the first $35k, 15% on the rest, or 15% on all of it?

i wouldn't know for sure, i'm not an expert on taxes... but i believe it is 0% tax on the first $35,000 and 20% for anything after that. so your effective tax capital gains tax rate would be 20% of $65,000. it's no longer 15% btw.

It's still 15%
284  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: USA capital gains on: December 08, 2013, 10:15:36 AM
but how does one prove when he purchased his BTC? what if i purchased it say 2 years ago, but in 1 year i want to sell off some coins and want to claim that i bought it 1 year prior.. i'd effectively pay significantly less since the value of BTC today is $1,000 more than last year, and it'd be 15% only.
US capital gains is 20%.   plus another 3.8% if you make over 250k to pay for obamacare.

No, US long term capital gains is usually 15%.

It is only 20% if you make over about $400k AGI. Very few people are in that bracket.
285  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Moving Forward/Resolution Process on: December 07, 2013, 02:30:52 PM
So do you believe that we get our coins back this year ?

The process of receiving them will start this week.

Does this include the coins from ukyo.loan too? Or just the coins stuck on bitfunder and weexchange?
I'm owed nearly 250 btc from ukyo.loan. I think I might actually be ukyo's largest creditor.
286  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: December 06, 2013, 09:33:44 PM
Has Labcoin said anything at all in the past few weeks?

Given how high the price of bitcoin is now, it would be worth of it for many of the bag holders to get lawyers. Labcoin will eventually get caught, there is no doubt about it. They level of fraud they've sunk to is simply astounding.
287  Economy / Speculation / Re: on the way back up already.. on: December 06, 2013, 05:16:29 PM
The Chinese can't sell $25billion in one day, and now the Friday jitters have worn off

Got a cheap buy when even Coinbase was panicking, and the servers are getting tested but the price is going right back up.

 Loooonggg

Not really back , but we will be Smiley.
Also , the chinese don't have that much , and secondary , who gives a crap about what China does?

The rise from $100 to $1000 was all due to China.

Without China we would be back at $100 within a week.
288  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long have you been mining & what is your current hash rate? (+ bonus Q's) on: December 06, 2013, 08:08:42 AM
My current hash rate is about 1.5 TH/s. I make about 1 BTC per day at current difficulty.

Here are my current miners:
1 Avalon batch 2 at 82 GH/s
2 Bitburner 8-board stacks at about 375GH/s each
2 BFL Jalapeņos at 7 GH/s each
2 BFL Singles at 60 GH/s each
1 KNC Jupiter at 550  GH/s

I started mining early this year with a BFL FPGA I got from a friend. The Avalon was my first real miner which was purchased in June I think. I've mined about 140 coins so far. The BFL machines were ordered in Oct of 2012 but didn't arrive until this Sept!

I have a batch 1 Hashfast on order (with an upgrade kit) and an upgraded batch 2 (Nov batch) hashfast on order too. Finally I have a KNC Neptune on order.

I mine on Eligius presently but used to mine on Ozcoin.
289  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why The Fair Price Of Bitcoin Is $0 on: December 06, 2013, 07:23:47 AM
Bitcoin is not worth zero. And here is why:

I promise I will buy every bitcoin for $ 0.0001 each. Yes, I have $2,100 set aside and I will buy all 21 million coins for 1/100th of a penny, I guarantee it and will put it in writing if necessary. There, we've established a lower limit for the price of bitcoin because I will buy all your bitcoins for 1/100th of a cent at any time purely for the collectors value of them in case they fail.
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoins to speculate on.. on: December 02, 2013, 08:51:35 PM
None of them.

Invest in bitcoins, not the poor-man's clones.

Ripple is a "scam" and it's just semantics to argue that "scam" is not exactly the correct word to use. Ripple was started to make the people who own Ripple very rich. The fact that the XRP market cap is far higher than Bitcoin should be a giant red flag for those of you who are considering putting money into Ripple.
291  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Moving Forward/Resolution Process on: November 29, 2013, 05:43:33 AM
I'm the largest single ukyo.loan shareholder and I'm also significantly invested in Neo&Bee and I think this is great news! Not that anyone cares, lol. There is at least one person out there who still believes in Ukyo and Neo&Bee, though. Good luck to you both and I hope this all gets sorted out quickly.

Guys you need to give it up. The BTC is lost and Ukyo is just bullshitting to stop the witch hunt.

More speculation. Whatever your intuition and experience tells you, eh?

Dude, if he had the BTC he would have paid the withdrawal's already.  There isn't any valid excuses left now so he stays quite and uses the tried and tested "two weeks" method.

Facts:
He hasn't offered any proof of funds.
He hasn't honoured any withdrawal requests.
He hasn't redeemed any Ukyo loan
He hasn't paid any ukyo loan divs

Please provide any facts/evidence to the contrary.

Hi, Dude ,Can we delegate a  layer to help us get back our BTC??

The problem is if there is no funds then lawyers will not help.  If Ukyo acted fraudulently then he might spend some time in the clink.
I hope I am wrong...

I have no given up on Ukyo yet. I am going to give him a little more time and wait for his big announcement. (I actually know what his big announcement is, and if it is true and going to happen, it is very good news for all of us).

If it doesn't happen though, I will have no choice but to hire a lawyer. Presently, the outstanding amount owed to me by ukyo.loan is nearly $250,000. That is definitely an amount I can not let slide. Fortunately, I have plenty of other bitcoins used to fund a lawyer if necessary.

Like I said, though, I have talked to ukyo occasionally on IRC and have not given up on him yet. I'll give it another 2 weeks for now and see what happens.

I can't seem to connect to stratum.mining.eligius.st port 3334 anymore. Something is very wrong.
294  Economy / Speculation / Re: Spend Point on: November 26, 2013, 12:17:39 AM
I think it all depends on timing for me.  All of the money I've invested in BTC i don't need, so if there was a situation where I needed to purchase something liarge, like a house, and I needed some extra cash for it, then i'd cash out.

But i don't think i'd ever take 100% out in case it keeps increasing in value.  There's always the fear that you'll miss out.

There is also the fear it will crash. Money is worthless if you never spend it.

I cashed out about 30% at about 400. Of course, I wish I had waited till 800, but there was no way of knowing what would happen. So I'm happy with the profit I have and also happy I still have coins left. The answer is to sell slow as it rises so you'll never be left with nothing if we experience another huge crash again.
295  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 25, 2013, 11:42:55 PM
Assuming they got the substrate today, isn't that great news? Shouldn't it mean that the units are only a couple of weeks away at most. How long does it take them to test and start assembling? What else could they be waiting for? It seems to me that they are ahead of schedule for a mid-December launch. Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I see their announcement re the substrate from a few days ago to be very good news?

That is, of course, assuming they did receive the substrate today and that everything else (ie the chips) works as designed.
296  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Ukyo.Loan - Paying 0.05% daily. on: November 25, 2013, 06:28:08 PM
You should go to the doctor and get some sleeping pills as you might never get your BTC back.

He said he will post a news by Monday, I just hope this time he will bringing some good news, hopefully !~

He said Monday or Tuesday, we have another one or two sleepless nights to go.
God Bless UKYO ...... if he went bankrupt, I will be totally ripped off by him...

I expected you'll be able to at least get something back. 100% is not likely anymore though.
297  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITBURNER FURY Technical discussion on: November 22, 2013, 07:36:04 PM
I got another 8-board stack yesterday.

This one also crashes my raspberry pis! Why does this happen? Does it happen to anybody else? Maybe I shouldn't be using Raspbian?? What installations do other people use?

My other 8-board stack is running off of a linux PC and it never crashes. I'd rather use raspbery pis though to save electricity.

As I mentioned before, I'd tried 2 different pis, with 2 different installations, 2 different versions of raspbian, two different power supplies, two different USB hubs (both powered), both wired and wifi internet, and the pi will still (eventually) freeze up after running for a while.

I have several other miners running off of raspberry pis (raspbian with cgminer) from BFL and they never crash. It's something about this special cgminer maybe or just the hardware? I don't really get it.

298  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Ukyo.Loan - Paying 0.05% daily. on: November 21, 2013, 08:15:35 PM
I think the more time pass ,the more risk of our funds... It is the time our loan holders and those who can't withdraw coins from Weexchang to become together and get a layer to against him......

That's a last resort because if he doesn't have much in the way of funds, no one will be getting anything the moment his business stops. I'm certain he's not run away with everyone's money.

The loan issue is very different from the WeExchange issue. He made a critical mistake stating it could be repaid any time when this made no sense. He needs to sort that out with Loan holders.

WeExchange, however, is actually other people's money which was never loaned. In theory they are all still present and correct. It's the WeEx issues that are making everyone increasingly nervous and asking for the loan to be repaid. If WeEx was sorted out today (hah!) at least confidence would start to go up rather than down.

It's not any different at all actually. One does not take priority over the other. They are both debts of his and he has to cover both of them. I foresee bankruptcy in his future unless there is some miracle. It's the only way he can get out of his obligations. The only difference re weexchange is he may be considered guilty of fraud if it is found that he has been lying about the bitcoind problems.

I still have faith that he is doing everything he can to return everyone's bitcoins. I'm less convinced that he will be able to though.
299  Economy / Speculation / Re: CampBX: Bid low! on: November 21, 2013, 06:55:37 PM
CampBX is selling around $540/btc.

Mtgox is $635/btc

Everyone should come on over to camp bx, buy a fuck ton of bitcoins, and let the price go up  Grin

I just bought some at Camp.

Hey for everyone's information - they accept Dwolla and since I cannot use Dwolla any longer at Gox, I have been using it at CampBX.  Very easy and cheap once you have Dwolla set up and running.

I'm still experimenting, but the Dwolla/Camp combo is good for me so far.

Yeah they discontinued Dwolla integration, so how are you still using it?

CampBX didn't discontinue it. Dwolla announced that they will no longer do business with any bitcoin related business, whether an exchange or otherwise over a month ago. They should have emailed you about it.

Whoa.  When did this happen?  I was about to use it for pulling fiat out.  I knew about the Gox/dwolla thing, but somehow missed it with Camp.   Maybe I missed the memo.   I may have to retract my earlier comments. sorry.
