On Bfx:
No trades in 25 minutes
4 trades in 42 minutes, 5btc total

Pathetic.
Just like those three chartbuddy posts above.

Bitcoin is dead, nobody is interested anymore.
I was just about to say the same thing. Bitcoin is boringcoin.
2842  Economy / Speculation / Re: Serious question. Who SELLS at this level? on: September 04, 2014, 01:55:59 AM
If you watch the bids/asks long enough you begin to see patterns that you can name. They are like positions on a sports team. The "price" is the line of scrimmage. There are offense and defense positions. There are plays, fakes, hail mary's, and big scores. I can almost hear the play-by-play action.

"Bankrupt By Beanies"

Like the gentleman in the video, you all thought you found a sure thing. And now you watch as the value goes lower, lower, and even lower. Eventually, when there's no hope of recouping your losses for the foreseeable future, you'll tell yourselves that... "Maybe someday bitcoin will become popular again!" just like his wife in this video.

Lesson number one in investing: if you've found something that seems too good to be true, it is. Somebody made money on bitcoin, but it's at your expense. Those people found out about bitcoin very early and marketed by telling you that it would change the world, and all you needed to do was buy, hold, and sell no matter what.

In 10 more years, maybe there will be a documentary about some of the people here. At least the guy in this video still has all his stuffed animals to show for his financial failures.

Let me play your game for a moment.  Here is a link to your video at 5:26.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgDsyj5eLmo#t=326  Watch for 5 seconds.  This is what went wrong with Beanie Babies.  It was the point when Dogecoin decided to switch to an infinite number of coins.  Bitcoin will only ever have a maximum of 21 million coins.  There is no Bitcoin, Inc. waiting to turn out the next batch.  Beanie Babies lost its capability as a store of value when the manufacturer pumped up production.  Value became diluted, investors pulled out, and the bean bag holders were left with worthless product.  Do not confuse this with an item that has limited quantity, guaranteed by mathematics.

Infinitely divisible, bro. In theory there are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000... coins out there. Infinitely divisible. Effectively, however, keeping a fixed number of coins does at least provide a psychological peg so that's good.
Why did nobody think to gut the beanie babies and sell the individual beans instead? Pure genius!

someone could do ALOT of damage quietly accumulating DUMPING!!!  quietly accumulating DUMPING!!!   over and over

That's why we buy a little only at every bottom. The dumper's loss is our gain.

Nah, Bitcoin is more like Scotch or fine wine. Let it age and grow in value and flavor.
2846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippines adoption on: September 03, 2014, 04:07:12 AM
I've only been away 4 months and so much has happened. I can't wait to get back. I will not be starting an exchange. I'm really not even planning a big business. My goals are to educate people about Bitcoin and facilitate getting businesses to accept it.  I will work on a donation basis, but will likely get an SEC license to cover myself. I have ideas in how to expand into a business, but at this point I'll play it safe.

Do you have any feedback about your venture in the Philippines?

I am back in Mindanao. I talk to people that I can about Bitcoin. My partner has backed out of any interest in starting a business. Foreigners are not allowed to start businesses by themselves here, so I'm changing my goals. I'm working on a lecture to offer any business, organization, or municipality for only a donation to a local charity. I will not be pushing bitcoin, but instead keeping the material about the technology itself. I think it's better if Bitcoin remains true to its grass-roots origins in developing nations.

Wasn't Australia talking about banning Bitcoin?
2849  Economy / Speculation / Re: VC Tim Draper wins Bitcoin Auction, What will happen next? on: September 02, 2014, 12:15:24 PM
He could probably have got a better deal by waiting until now to buy.
Let's see you put a 30k BTC buy order in and see what it does to the price.
2850  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New Legislation coming in Effect. USA on: September 02, 2014, 02:17:18 AM
The smarter thing to do would be to allow brokerages to freely trade in bitcoins and let the old mtgox model of exchanges go extinct.

2853  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: any legal guys that know about 'trusts' please read on: September 02, 2014, 01:01:15 AM
New York is filled with douchebags (present company excluded, of course), can't we just collectively ignore any IP in their jurisdiction? Let's ignore their miners and transactions. Can't we just force them to use TOR and other dark technologies?

Your question is a good one. How can anyone prove any transaction of another? Courts tend to just claim everything and make you pay legal fees to prove otherwise. America has the best legal system money can buy. Stop expecting justice. You always have to fight for justice. The question is should you fight on their terms or yours?

edit: let's say hypothetically you trust your father to keep a copy of your private keys in his safe deposit box because you are going overseas and you know that if you keep it in your own safe deposit box it will go to probate if you die. Any bank or probate officer could make said bitcoins disappear with plausible deniability. Then also hypothetically, your father unexpectedly dies instead. You move your bitcoins and then his probate court claims you stole his bitcoins because they now have your old paper backup.

The fact is, there is no precedent because there has never been a virtual asset like bitcoin before. The best thing to do is protect your own fourth amendment right using cryptography.

All you bears and trolls might not believe on Santa Bitcoin, but he believes in you. He rewards the good little bitcoiners with whales that buy us lots of presents and punishes the bad ones with lumps of litecoin.
2856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Dominica Bitcoin Drop be a Success? on: September 01, 2014, 09:49:17 AM
My guess is 90% of the BTC "dropped" will never get spent, and will forever remain permanently locked in the blockchain.

I'm sorry, and I'm all for bitcoin, but this idea is ridiculous.  What's the average person going to get?  Maybe $5, so 0,011 BTC?  In general, these are fishermen and others who work for low wages, and for many people, their biggest investment is probably some sheep / goats, maybe a cow, etc.  You're going to spam the entire island via SMS letting them know they now have 0.011 BTC?  They're going to laugh at it as if it's just some huge joke, and make fun of the stupid mainlanders while sitting around enjoying dinner and drinks that night.

That's the most likely result.  Trust me, these people aren't abandoning cash for bitcoin any time soon.

It's not about how much is given. I always hear that people in developing nations are ignorant and stupid. Obviously there needs to be training in how they can benefit from the technology. There needs to be a long term plan to help developing nations use cryptocurrencies. I would like to see a think tank develop such a plan.

Will there be a version with metal casing anytime soon? Great product, anyway!

I want to know the same thing, silver, gold, white glass, other? Just not white plastic, and it would be nice if it was in time from Christmas, then it could be one of my gifts

I don't care if they are disposable and made from recycled cardboard. I want to see someone make these cheap.
2859  Economy / Economics / Re: will America ever be free again? on: September 01, 2014, 01:39:36 AM
will America ever return to be as it was at the beginning of the 20th century?

Ah, the good old days -- when women weren't legally allowed to vote, right? When laws were skewed to favor white, male property owners above all others? I wonder if old white men from the early 20th century fantasized about a return to the days when they could legally own slaves as well. Roll Eyes

Exactly.

100 years ago, gay and lesbian will not come out publicly to fight for their own right. Injustice will not be publish on newspaper.

We are more free than ever comparing to the 20th century and people still complain.

We should probably think about the 17th century. No nation states. No control on immigration. Smiley

Those were the good days when anyone willing to left everything behind can come and work hard in the US.

The internet is that new land of opportunity. Leave your oppressive state and find freedom wherever it may exist for you.
