2861  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it safe/dangerous to sell if the wallet gets to valueable on: November 14, 2019, 10:21:46 PM
Ok I will probably not send my coins to a mixer.
What is the next best suggestion? Perhaps to bounce it with an exchange?

witch wallets have the option to create a new address when you send the transaction that doen't point back to the wallet address?

Almost all wallets create a new address. I can't really think of any proper wallet that doesn't these days. Google the name of the wallet you like and 'HD' and if it is then you get a new address each time.

I'm still not totally certain who you're trying to hide from. If it's from exchanges then going through an exchange to hide makes no sense. If you want to sell it you're going to have to go through one anyway and there aren't that many good ones so you're likely to send it all through one or two.

If you want to spend some elsewhere in the wild then allocate a small amount of it and bounce it through an exchange or mixer. Keep the rest intact. It depends on whether you think someone already knows your overall balance.
2862  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-13] Crypto Space Has Shockingly Low Total Liquidity of $500 Million on: November 14, 2019, 10:08:03 PM
huobi and okcoin were no more convincing than today's crop. people used to refer to their volume churning as "the volumizer" and everyone knew it was completely fake.

The difference is that we all knew it was zero fee so it's quite possible real people were participating in the churn a decent proportion of the time. It's rather different from many of the places now with a $10 order book and $50 million in volume fizzing away 1 cent above it.

I'm not even sure some of them permit real people to get on to those markets. Someone who wants to cash in to buy their coffee could completely crash them.
2863  Other / Meta / Re: Has anyone ever purchased anything through BitcoinTalk on: November 14, 2019, 09:50:14 PM
Yes. I bought two Casascius coins from Camolist back in the day. They arrived just fine and nice and quick. I didn't do escrowing.

I can't see myself ever bothering with conventional goods, especially cardable ones. Even if they arrive you never know the source of the funds and whether your card is marked because of it.
2864  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-13] Crypto Space Has Shockingly Low Total Liquidity of $500 Million on: November 14, 2019, 09:31:57 PM
Perhaps it wasn't 100% clear-cut, but it was close enough for me to be convinced.  See this CoinDesk article from back in 2013.  In particular, this section:

At least the Chinese did a more convincing job of it than the current crop, but I well remember the occasional moment when their bots stopped stoking it and their exchanges died instantly. Even if there were some real people as well it was nothing but zero fee froth.

I could never get over how mindless the press were in eulogising China's trading 'dominance' when it could be debunked with twenty seconds of research. The death of those exchanges is probably the biggest factor in the price being set free. For some reason the West would run screaming every time those 3-4 Chinese teenagers dumped on them.
2865  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-12] Bitcoin Mining IPO Could be the New Gold Rush on: November 14, 2019, 09:16:09 PM
'According to a report by research company Hurun, there are currently eleven blockchain startup unicorns, including Binance, Coinbase, and Ripple.'

I'd love to see Ripple whining about the securities possibilities whilst also running an IPO.

As for anyone who puts money into this, rather them than me. As we've seen countless times it can turn on a dime and bone you in places you never knew you had. No one should go anywhere near mining without an appetite for epic craterage and that's before you take Bitmain's erection for Bcash into account. That's REALLY not a good look if you want someone else's money.
2866  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Halving Price Prediction $55,000 - $130,000 on: November 14, 2019, 08:52:49 PM
I'm also thinking the same thing, I've seen the other halving and didn't do much after it but the next year was a boom.

It does also of course depend on what the wider economy is up to as well. 2021 is quite a way away and a lot could go tits up by then. All previous price action has happened with the luxury of a pretty much relentless rising tide. At some point that has to falter and then we'll see what's what.
2867  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How do you like your sig campaign payments. USD vs. BTC on: November 14, 2019, 08:41:20 PM
I suggest not only you everyone to prefer the BTC payment. USD price will never change at the time of price dump we may agree USD but always BTC is the best choice for everyone.
I love to have the bitcoin payment like we were getting payment in 2016 and 2017. It's was a golden year for signature campaign users.

This thread isn't about USD payment which would be not too far off impossible. It's about whether you want a USD peg.

I'm sure the uptake for something paid in USD would be upsettingly high. Ain't gonna happen though.
2868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Halving Price Prediction $55,000 - $130,000 on: November 14, 2019, 08:31:41 PM
Right after the first halving in 2012, the Bitcoin price rose from $12 to $140.

It didn't happen until well into the following year.

I expect nothing much until 2021 myself but I'm more than willing to be surprised. I think this one will be significant in that inflation will finally fall below the average competently managed fiat currency and it'll gradually dawn on people that there really aren't that many more coins to come.
2869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do Hong Kong protesters use Btc for anything? on: November 14, 2019, 08:16:38 PM
Apart from all that press about the HK press being cut off from Bitpay I haven't seen much. And they have rather bigger fish to fry than money.

What they need is some sort of decentralised internet or communications system. I've seen vague mentions of something along those lines but I've no idea how it would work.
2870  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-13] Crypto Space Has Shockingly Low Total Liquidity of $500 Million on: November 14, 2019, 08:12:32 PM
Fake volume has always been a thing the entire time I've been involved in crypto.

There's definitely been an explosion in laughable junk in recent times. Back in the day you could never quite be sure. Now it's there out in the open. Witness those exchanges with trillions in volume but $4 on the buy side yet the trades magically happen just above it.

It's good that CMC are starting to do something about it. Shame that they got powerful enough for it to become a problem.
2871  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it safe/dangerous to sell if the wallet gets to valueable on: November 14, 2019, 12:02:21 PM
Not really. The point of a Mixer is to break the traceability of your assets, so you can’t really have it both ways (breaking traceability, but still being able to prove they are the same assets), at least through the blockchain.

Could you not take screen shots and stuff?

If it were me I would not be putting the majority of my funds through a mixer. There may come a time where mixed funds will be a problem with the most uptight exchanges and services.

It makes sense for spending and money that'll interact with people you don't want knowing things about you. Beyond that it's a known unknown and best not to tempt fate.
2872  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New IRS 'guidance' on: November 14, 2019, 11:46:26 AM
but that's the most obvious approach if you follow their guidance to the letter.

I dunno. It conjures up visions of these Freemen on the Land assholes who nasally intone in court 'I am John of the family Smith ergo you cannot prosecute me' just before a rain of batons turn their skull into mush.

It ain't my problem but I doubt the IRS will leave interpretations like that open. Like I said their wording is crap. I presume it's going to be tuned.
2873  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Plans To Onboard 180 Fiat Currencies on: November 14, 2019, 11:18:39 AM
It's an admirable ambition but I don't see how it'll be achieved without exposing users to legions of piece of shit intermediaries with horrific fees and questionable legality. There are plenty of fiat options that are such a turn off I doubt they're ever used.

Fiat is not Binance's business. They're going to need other people to facilitate it and it may not look too pretty.
2874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Disney plus+ service begins today. Do you think if they accept a crypto on: November 14, 2019, 11:07:21 AM
The rumors are that these streaming services wants to transition to Live TV broadcasts too, because they want to offer something that you cannot instantly get on these pirate sites. They also want to introduce advertising on their platforms, because it is getting very difficult to fund original content with all the competition coming onto the scene.

Disney plus+ was supposed to be the Netflix killer, but I think Neflix are one step ahead of them, so they will not just lie down to die. I would like to see one of these services introducing some smart contract based on Crypto currencies to pay monthly for these subscriptions, because it will give them some advantage over some of their competitors. <grabbing the Bitcoin market>

Plex, the best platform for curating and streaming one's pirated 'shit', seems to be pushing the live angle to near universal condemnation. I have no interest in it whatsoever.

Same goes for advertising. If that becomes a thing, and why wouldn't it?, that's going to turn off a lot of customers.

Crypto and recurring subscriptions will never really work. They require pulling rather than pushing. And until people earn in crypto they're going to be a lot more discerning regarding the things they pay for with it.
2875  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex has moved to the Seychelles on: November 14, 2019, 10:58:10 AM
Well, pretty much nothing that Poloniex has done in living memory has in any way been reassuring in the slightest. This just continues that fine tradition. I'm beginning to wonder whether the whole thing is a performance art piece designed to make you reflect on the nature of competence.
2876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Disney plus+ service begins today. Do you think if they accept a crypto on: November 13, 2019, 11:31:31 PM
A very valid point to bring up since I think one of the reasons why they wanted to start a streaming service due to people just going online and downloading their copyrighted content by some other means.
But with their service their customers get way more then just the movies. They receive the extras as well from what they would get if they bought the bluray version for how ever much the movie costs online or in store.

Plenty of pirated films come with the extras now as well. Even if they don't you can often find them elsewhere if that's your bag.

I'm finding it really strange that they haven't learnt the lessons of the music industry and gathered around a small number of services. Instead they're running flat out in the opposite direction after flirting with sense.

Maybe they know something we don't. I have no idea what it is. I'll cherry pick their best torrents.
2877  Economy / Speculation / Re: BAKKT: Road to $100,000+ starts in november? on: November 13, 2019, 11:27:14 PM
Derivatives are always a bad idea for the price of anything. If you decide to buy a futures contract of Bitcoin instead, you are not actually buying a single BTC, you are just betting on the price going up or down without actually buying it. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what that does to the price of the underlying asset.

Derivatives are a 100% inevitability in any market worth bothering with. A market without them won't be taken seriously. If there was nothing in place by this stage of crypto's life it would a signal of something properly weird going on.

And since Bakkt is settling in BTC real Bitcoin certainly is on the line and changing hands.
2878  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-11-13] Crypto Space Has Shockingly Low Total Liquidity of $500 Million on: November 13, 2019, 11:18:20 PM
https://cryptoiq.co/the-crypto-space-has-shockingly-low-total-liquidity-of-500-million-or-less-and-numerous-top-exchanges-caught-faking-their-volume/

It's extremely silly measuring liquidity entirely by what's on order books, plenty more will be sitting on the sidelines. Also with things as comatose as they've become it won't bear any resemblance to the more muscular periods of time.

All the same there are some pretty comical figures such as - Bibox that has volume of $1.05 billion and liquidity of $300,000, ZB that has volume of $483 million and liquidity of $310,000.

I will guess that the real figures for most of the exchanges clogging up the scene probably require another two zeroes removing, or just a good old zero.
2879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Disney plus+ service begins today. Do you think if they accept a crypto on: November 13, 2019, 01:11:24 PM
Why would Disney bother? Why would any streamer bother? They want recurring payments that people are too lazy to cancel. Most would go under without them.

At present Disney has a rights problem, not a payment problem. I presume that's why it's launching next year in other territories.

I can't believe anyone there didn't think to attempt to clear up whatever issues there are because by the time it does launch they'll have lost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in business as people just pirated it rather than wait like good little consumers.
2880  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New IRS 'guidance' on: November 13, 2019, 01:08:38 PM
This is a problem, I've been listening to Bitcoin.tax podcast.

Are you willing to supply a TLDR? I'm sure no one will hold you legally liable if they follow the advice you precis.

I think folks who think because a fork is effectively worthless the nanosecond it forks may find the tax man is unreceptive to noodling of that nature.
