2881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinDark to make Bitcoin anonymous on: August 18, 2014, 10:49:54 AM
BitcoinDark is just another altcoin. There is no need to sell BTC to buy one of these so called anonymous altcoins if you are seeking privacy as there are plenty of ways of anonymizing your Bitcoin transactions (use a new address every time, use shared coin when you send, use exchanges, use the upcoming darkwallet).

I don't see any of these "anonymous" coins surpassing Bitcoin any time soon.

Don't forget to use coin control.

Yes you can buy them online for larger amounts, but ID is required.

How to Purchase
Order a Gift Card online in any amount from $25 to $500. Or, visit any ACUTX location to purchase gift cards in any amount from $25 to $ 1,000.

I've bought these from plenty of gas stations and never been ID'ed. I doubt they will ID you, it doesn't say they do on the website.
I was just looking for them not long ago for using Gyft to buy them. The $50 limit and fees made it unfeasible. Even moneypaks require ID. Maybe you can get some at a bank, I never tried that but I doubt a bank would do anything without ID.
2885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: do bitcoin ATMs really suck this much? on: August 17, 2014, 04:27:19 AM
In Texas $50 is the largest.

Quick Google search says you can buy a $1,000 one from Acutx Credit Union in Austin, Tx:

https://www.acutx.org/account-services/convenience/visa-gift-card

It doesn't specifically say but I don't think you need to provide ID. I'm sure you can get them in other places in Texas too.

2886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: do bitcoin ATMs really suck this much? on: August 17, 2014, 04:22:48 AM
There is a $4.95 fee for a $50 card. If you buy $600 worth of cards you will pay $59.40 in fees.

Actually you can buy higher value cards for a lesser percentage fee than that. The largest one I've seen is $1,000 though I don't remember the fee offhand.

But thats beside the point. The point is you can buy these gift cards at any gas station anonymously (no personal information required), but you can't buy bitcoin from an ATM without fingerprint and ID scans due to AML. Why is that? The risks of misuse are almost exactly the same.

ETA: Actually, Idunno if anyone does BitInstant's model anymore, but going to 7/11 or whatever and filling out a WU-like form might be the better option. I don't remember what all was involved with that, but IIRC, it wasn't very invasive.

What about those little prepaid visa gift cards in 7/11?

They don't require ID scans or fingerprints to buy. In fact they don't require any personal information at all, they are technically anonymous.

I wonder if regulations allow for someone to make a Bitcoin version, if not, then won't those visa cards be used by "terrorists" to launder money too?
Forget privacy issues.

The reason Bitcoin ATMs suck is because the  owners are ripping people off with the "spread" price from buy to sell.

Often times $50 to $100 or more.

Idiots.  People's greed is what will stop Bitcoin from going to the moon quickly.

ATM company operators should make rules about this shit.  Limits.  Like ... spread can't be more than $3.00

Like a typical ATM fee.

I never anticipated that Bitcoin ATMS would be rendered useless by this.  I thought people would be able to buy Bitcoins with them.  But they can't.

Aren't they just so adorable?

But they are not natural beauties most of them just because of too much make up  Wink Shocked

True.

Someone with a good eye did the makeup.
Notice the various clothing types and patterns.
See how they each have a posture different than the others.
And the postures are natural, not forced.
And, of course, there are the smiles.
The setting is something that might seem natural, like in a 5 and Diner.
Hair colors and styles are almost unique.
And it looks like they are selling some kind of cellphone, so it is probably from a marketing program.

Whoever put this together has a very good eye.

They are a singing group wearing entertainment costumes, nothing more. Like me, you may have yellow fever.

No guts no glory. Fiat loan incoming any time now. hahahahahahaah.... bitcoin price dropping .... will have to seriously think this when the fiat is in my hands. (I can always return all the money or lend it to someone else.)
Bitcoin @ under $500 means its the PERFECT time to buy!

Always keep your mind on the big picture, never the small (short term) one.
Now you're sounding like a used car salesman. Bitcoin sells itself. Look at the charts. Anyone can see what's going on here. Look at how many trolls are coming out from under their rocks. There is nothing but good news. Folks are selling because they can't spend bitcoins on their vacations yet. Their loss is our gain. Next year my vacation is on them.
See what I did there? It's called soft sell.

Let me guess? Game of Thrones? I never saw series but books are phenomenal.
I don't know, but I would rather be doing that than HODLing.

I'm starting to be pessimistic about it all, and I even think we may not witness next Bitcoin bubble in near future... Here's why:

You made all very good points. But you forget one important thing: Cryptocurrency is a new fundamental technology. Those don't get forgotten. Somebody will do something with it. Bitcoin is philosophically the best and most useful version. There were several attempts beforehand with parts of the technology. Even our current banking system is a distant ancestor. Bitcoin has evolved to fit an important need. It will die someday as all technologies eventually become antiquated. But that time is not now.

I'm selling my house Monday and am going to at least buy back the coins I spent when it was much higher.

The logic is sound, the facts seem to fit, and I agree.

so why is price not performing as it should be?

as long as their anxiety results in them selling more bitcoins to the deep-pocket investors, the wait continues.

yes, that seems to be the case, I would go one step further and add that the deep-pocket investors are playing with the market, dropping price, leverage hunting, down playing their willingness to buy, all in the hope of adding to that anxiety resulting more bitcoin available on the market for them.

no one drops large sums of bitcoin when news is gr8, unless they want to manipulate, and we saw just how effective a well placed large market sell can be, with last nights long squeeze.

do you believe there is some manipulation is taking place? how long can they keep this up?  how low will they make us go? are their tricks working for you, are you scared, are you selling!?
It's a new land, like the Wild West. There are unwritten rules that yet need to be written.

2900  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 15, 2014, 11:16:12 AM
there's a little bit of what looks like delaminating on the bottom of the screen on my trezor. it looks like a little bubble under the screen. is this because there is a protective sticker that i can just peel off or is it something else?

I have two, trezor classics with this issue, also one has a nick on the bubble. I just ordered a third, I am wondering if it's just a bad batch or what, but it's super disappointing.

The protective layer of plastic over the whole front was removed, it's almost like their is a screen protector on the screen, under the frame.

Sounds like waterproofing.
