We'll be finding out very soon.  Wink

I signed an NDA .. so I'm biased but I'm quite convinced of their legitimacy.

Seems a lot of work to give a Newbie post a NDA when all the frack they have to do is show a unit running as a demo......

I mean really, if this stuff exists...how clueless do they think we are....a newbie account with 4 posts for crying out loud saying I signed a NDA

trust me...sheesh....still smells....even it the units exist..they have pre-mined the f*ck out of them...they likely will be overpriced compared to prices when shipped

and likely IMHO late, with other excuses....

2982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASIC's of any flavor? Any that make sense to ROI now? Or is it lost cause? on: February 22, 2018, 04:06:40 PM
The problem is that there are a lot more miners now than before so difficulty becomes a thing to calculate before any ASIC purchase.  ASIC producers don’t even have to advertise that much any more.  They get sold out in hours.  There really isn’t any incentive to have anyone test it here and setup group buys.

I generally like the Baikals because they can do more than one algo, so they tend to have a longer life span than most single algo ASICs.

Last year I tried to buy over 40 baikal cubes when they were available...2 attempts 2 different batches of 20 each

..I got 1 cube on the 1st batch when only 1 unit was available...I was TOLD I had in BOTH

batches later...I had the units and they would send me payment info...in both cases they said they sold them to someone else by accident ..er sorry...

this was not 1x for 1 batch..but 2x as it happened on a 2nd batch they offered and I tried again and I had 3 different assurances from sales/tech/email and 2nd sales email

all saying all was fine on that last attempt at 20 units..

of course, that was fantasy....they admitted they screwed up in both cases...

they then offered me 1 baikal cube they had there at 3am cst the email sent..from china..but because I did not reply in 1 hour they sold that too...yeah too bad I was asleep!

Also know folk who sent in wire xfers back about that time and am unsure if the EVER got their money back on the same kinda thing

thus I like my 1 only baikal 300mh cube...but sending wire xfers to those guys on the THEORY you'd get a miner ..IMHO and my experience...more than a bit IFFY

I'd only trust a group buy with baikal...er, MAYBE,  by that I mean a mess of us getting a mess of them in some manner.....otherwise you'd simply get stepped on ....with

large order on a wire xfer or whatever, maybe you'd have some clout to get something on such a cluster as I had...but my orders were for 20 in each case after

the first batch and I got blown off..so not a big fan of how they do business

2983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASIC's of any flavor? Any that make sense to ROI now? Or is it lost cause? on: February 22, 2018, 04:52:24 AM
If the Asic market is looking dubious, how about pre-built and ready to go GPU rigs? Philipma has one of these for review right now and last that I heard, he was quite pleased with it.

https://www.autominer.at/

I have found I am too dumb to keep a GPU rig up in any manner...gave it up a long time ago Sad

and that gets me back to the ROI stuff......with the link above and cards...I doubt the ROI is any better than a current Bitmain ASIC rig

thus the problem...does anything make sense to spend crypto on to get a future ASIC or have we entered the age ...where a mnfg like bitmain

can mine the beasts and ROI and the rest of us are now out of luck...at this point in time?

I see nothing of any ASIC FLAVOR that makes sense.....just saying.... (sigh) Sad

Any ideas for masternodes yet?

Details, please!

Ideally, a link!

2985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASIC's of any flavor? Any that make sense to ROI now? Or is it lost cause? on: February 22, 2018, 03:24:46 AM
Only whoever is in china and is a big miner like bitmain and friends are winning. They pay close to nothing for the workforce, they get away from law enforcement issues and trust me even most of the taxes. I say, right now the crypto market is only going in one direction and that is bad.

Yes, this is my fear, but occasionally, some ASIC manufacturer of any flavor (x11,scrypt-pow,etc) has managed to slip some products thru with little notice...I see this as a long shot

but as an example I had the chance on a pinidea miner in fall 2016 I think it was, 6 months before Baikal miners shipped...only 10 were shipped to the USA, probably because pinidea decided to mine themselves....passed on such...was too iffy, the China site i could not read (man do we need a contact that speaks English that is legit in China!) so missed that boat...but those
10 guys that got one mined in the states as the ony 10 ASICS at that time and those 10 guys, just killed it for a year...sigh (so many missed boats) Sad

When Baikal first came out, they had a legit group buy, Innsilicon as well, (if as usual late) there have been others.....the problem is they either get full of themselves and act like bitmain on customer support, get overwhelmed by orders or have no way to check them out in a legit manner by 1) having someone demo a unit on bitcointalk or 2) having a group buy on bitcointalk

Ideally, we'd be approached to demo a unit and then be allowed first for our cheerleading to do a group buy, up to usually a certain number....still risky, but somewhat manageable...

Just clutching at straws here, but again I remember a day when they tossed up a demo, called the press, did a group buy on here, you could pay with paypal, much cheerleading

on here if the product was good and the result was you were SELF FUNDED on your ASIC EQUIPMENT launch...or at least that is how KNC MIners did it ... on original 2013 1st batch

all from design to shipping in a period of less than 6 months.....we need to find that kind of 'hungry' asic maker again and play cheerleader or at least get some deals from

current manufacturers out there..that make sense (last I think it was group buy I saw was lame $50 off if you got 5 units.....forget who it was)

anyway, thus the thread....a fool and hope this is ..ASIC wise..but hey....I need some frigging ASIC equipment with a LEGIT chance to ROI, besides the usual suspects of baikal,

bitmain, innsilicon, etc

BUT, I also want them to be demo'd and certified as legit by the consensus of folk on bitcon talk ...via again demo/review of product ..tour the plant....etc

NO reason, in 2018, I should have to put up with crap/risk that I could do with PayPal in 2013....just saying

anyway, vent away, shaking the tree may do no good...but I feel better Smiley

2986  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / ASIC's of any flavor? Any that make sense to ROI now? Or is it lost cause? on: February 22, 2018, 03:00:46 AM
OK, sh*t got real....looking over my mining operation, I'm good till say around summer, baring some price downward disaster on scrypt-pow.

But looking at my finances on mining coming in (scrypt-pow profits) vs what I will owe the nice USA tax folks, (50% 40% Tax Bracket and 10% added for my state)

I'm about 20k, behind the 8 ball, after the first month this year (Jan 2018) (be careful wishing to be a mid-sized to big miner..you may surely get it) Sad

Anyway, thus....I either for this month need to set aside (on the assumption of NO real and NOT 'dubious' equipment...thus stuck) 10k for the tax man, or

I need to blow the full 20k on ASIC equipment that is NOT dubious (I know probably should get a GPU rig, but I am dumb...thus put off by GPU rigs, as have run

ASIC's of many flavors since 2013)

So does anyone, have any ideas, of anything of any ASIC flavor that makes any kind of sense? Bitmain is going to have a glut of scrypt-pow (3 months worth of orders

March/April in scrypt-pow miners alone), Baikal is 'flakey' IMHO, and way,way overpriced.....Innsilicon the A5 is way over priced and is very consistant on all their products

in being 2-3 months LATE....dragonmint is iffy...etc etc

As you can see, everyone gets the trend.....or sees what is going on above...ITS A FRIGGING ASIC DESERT, (or at least from a coin to equipment xfer point of view) Sad

So you have to ask the question, is it WORTH THE RISK, in ANY manner....

More worrisome to someone with a tax burden of say 25% plus above 25% equipment deduction compressed....toss a coin 50/50 risk, if you are in that camp, even makes

less sense than my situation/hope. Sad

I have status, I have references, I can review a product or forward such to folk more reputable then myself, I can do escrow or again can refer to folk more reputable than

myself as well... but damn it, there has to be some LEGIT ASIC miner operation, (you'd think) that would be wise to have a demo reviewed or a group buy using legit escrow

thru bitcointalk...at least from the point of getting the word out.....

In 2013, you would throw up a legit youtube video of your ASIC product, invite press to look it over, and you could pay for it with frigging PAYPAL for crying out loud...now we

get 'iffy' ship times/ a hell of a lot of pre-mine the stuff first/ bitcoin or in bitmain's case BCH only/ no group buys/ no escrow...and are told to lump it or leave it...

Anyway, thus my rant above. I'm sure more than a few folk on here with the same concerns...

So anyway, consider this thread a resource to research some ASIC's (in existence or supposed future existence) ...folk find out what you can, hash it out, approach

hopefully, SOME ASIC makers, current or brand new...with safeguards to do demos and/or escrow and/or group buys and/or reviews of your product from a group of

'legit' future customers on here, that can help push/demo/review and promote your 'legit' ASIC product....(This means you Bitmain...if anyone needed good press these

days on a group buy and restoring trust it is you guys..if for no other reason then to improve your crummy customer support...)

If NOTHING of an ASIC unicorn exists anymore that is worth roping and riding, well then I/we probably need to know this now..rather than later

Feel free to post on my above 'delusions' and also be aware I just opened up this thread to 'scammers are us' they are all gonna show up.....so IF such an ASIC mnfg

of a legit nature, does exisit.....prepare to be met with certain criteria and goals of proof of your 'hopeful' legitness...it will not be easy, but I think the folk following this

thread, if you have a good product, would be an excellent 'large mob' of ASIC cheerleaders......indeed!

Ok, let the rout begin...rumors/hope/find/where/how/what/what price/escrow/reviews/demos/...let the map the ASIC wilderness project begin!

2987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: February 22, 2018, 01:28:15 AM
Still no finite or defined date yet as to when HLM tokens would be released. This has been too long and crossing my finger the price of it may affect the progression of its ecosystem.

Yeah, I have 2 Bitmain D3's (soon to be doorstops) that by themselves will never ROI...BUT with the MAY 2017 Baikal 300mh cube...I am even for X11 mining of dash. (All about

how you tell people and protect the fragile ego...I barely ROI'd in x11 dash coins vs I did NOT ROI with Bitmain D3's specific...this is my life now...little white crypto lies) Sad

But yeah, would be nice if I could at least have the ILLUSION of mining a coin in the future to justify my Bitmain D3 Space Heater qualities....before Summer...

2988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: February 22, 2018, 01:24:58 AM
my point on 2) to your point above is the worth of siacoin will be determined by its use in the network storage solution as ASIC machines are used on that network...from what I understand...thus with that in place and before bitmain came out....sia-tech said they would have 25% inflation above 100% coin in existence PER MONTH..my point is the puppy
better work as a storage token...it won't work IMHO, as a speculative coin ...as it is now...with that kind of inflation.which is even MORE now with bitmain units..

anyway, correct me if I'm wrong...how I am viewing this product/protocol/storage vision

There is something incorrect in your reasoning. The amount of hashing power generated by the mining network is totally unrelated to the Supply of coins. This is a common misunderstanding of PoW coins. If the amount of hashrate increases 100x because of a massive deployment of ASICs from Bitmain or whichever other manufacturer, the difficulty of mining will increase instantly 100x to compensate and keep the block time, the block reward and the Inflation stable.

When ASICs are released in a GPU-mined coin, or a new generation of ASICs is released in a coin that already uses ASICs, it doesn't mean more coins will be generated every minute. It just means that the same amount of coins that are usually mined will be redistributed to the new generation of ASICs, and old generations will become unprofitable (they get outcompeted).

So it doesn't matter how much hashrate is added to the network or which manufacturer comes in: the Supply and the Inflation are immutable and predictable. You can check which will be the evolution of both in the next years in these charts: https://www.siastats.info/supply_inflation

OK...I'm with you so far, the question I have is WITH the amount of ASIC's coming into play for a currently existing GPU coin...and/or the price involved NOW...make any real difference in
price in the future...or as I assumed..it all comes down to the fact Siacoin has to deliver (and ASIC's with their role) as a method of decentralized network that is the mainstay in Sia-techs attempt to make a decentralized internet of things storage network....that is priced at 10c to Amazon's Cloud $1.00 price now/soon say this summer....thus non-centralized....and much cheaper to store data....fufilling a big need for cloud type storage at a much better value.

IF from what I can tell from what you say...is all that happens when the network goes from GPU to ASIC is that it would have little effect and the current price of the coin goes sideways say, or no or little effect but the 'spoils' of
say, and as such such now just shift to Asic's playing field..and GPU's are toast....but would putter along with ASIC'S in the same manner as GPU price/use wise..until the storage network
vision happens?

Anyway, how I see this, the coin has to have 'legs' from what I understand this is Sia-techs niche...they don't pull it off this summer the project will flame out..and ASIC's will be shut off ..if by that point they have upsurped the GPU's as the main network ...and it will all just dribble out to naught..price will be relected as such an this coin will be dust...

thus the bet, again IMHO

Does this re-launch achievement allow the devs to take LISK out to use for the DEV team? I can't remember what the white paper says on this....

could this be why the price of LISK is down, devs finally allowed to cash out more LISK for their project....?

I thought there was something about 'benchmarks' and progress to allow such actions...

I'm probably wrong, just tossing it out there....corrections on my likely 'wrong' memory above is welcome

No transactions have been made from the LiskHQ fund since 02/05/2018.

Well, that answered that..thanks

As someone who is mining LCC I am aware of the slow start and this will affect the mining.

Quote
"Slow-Start Control - To prevent dominant early miners having an unfair advantage, block rewards will start at 0.25 LCC and grow to 250 LCC over the first 2000 blocks after the fork. The first 24 blocks after the fork will be mined at minimum difficulty. After this, DarkGravity will adjust the difficulty based on observed block generation time. The 250 LCC block reward (equivalent to 25 LTC) will halven at the same chain heights as Litecoin."

We are already up to 111 block reward.

All I know is I have a hard time believing that LCC can maintain at a $5 coin, with 10x the coin being made than LTC.....even if we get 10 LCC for each 1 LTC

(I have 440 LTC so now 4400 LCC so I hope I'm dead wrong)

(er wait, ripple...hmmm....could we be so fracking lucky?).....

Oddly enough I didn't do it, I think the other mod did it, which was very nice of him to put this thread where it belongs so he doesn't have to worry about it anymore.

Ask him and Therymos to move the KNC one as well, hopefully the alt people won't have a problem with Meptune posts as they can also mine Bitcoin Trash. And hopefully saying that is ok in this forum. Hm....

As a thread OP you should ask about that..I know in the past they have given out to new OP's dead threads..don't know the protocol for such though..unlikely but worth a shot IMHO,

(where would I have been w/o the garlicoin post and scrypt-N on the thread....shudder....ha ha...I can talk about any sh*tcoin like garlicoin or whatever I want now!) Smiley

if something changes let me know...but not looking worth it ...(or much better with a T9) ...so less work for me....I have 440 LTC I will now ponder my naval and my 4,400 LCC hoard

Holy shit. I think I'm unofficially retired as of an hour ago.

It hasn't hit me yet.

Making it official with a select group tomorrow, then telling my direct manager on Friday.

Wow.

I can't believe I actually pulled this plan off...

Congrats!

I retired on 1/14/18....so a bit more than a month, the 1st month was pretty busy...tax mess from crypto mining (my income stream now) HODL mode...too much time in pajamas on bitcointalk.....had time to make a couple killing on stuff in that I don't work....(garlicoin) and some other stuff....

still somewhat befuddled however...and I feel like I am a 6-year-old who just got done looking at a playboy....feel kinda dirty...and have no idea why..no context...

same thing, not working..I wake up everyday feeling like I'm gonna miss an appointment or need to be someplace..what is it 'phantom work syndrome?"

some kinda PTSD as a former 'worker ant' I guess Sad

anyway, spend a lot more time looking at house procrastinating projects (painting/fix plumbing/etc) that seems to be a constant from when I had a job that has not changed....

but it is weird, you will find that out for sure...

It should be an interesting few months for LCC.  My plan is to mine it for 4 weeks....I've mined 8 coins so far.  Once the 4 weeks is up, I'll add it to my collection of HODL's as this coin "could" have some legs over the coming years....

hmm...what are you using to get them 8 LCC...curious...even more curious..in that, I have 440 LTC so that is 4,400 LCC...so I guess, from me sitting on sidelines.....I should

A couple of S9's via MultiPools LCC pool.

yeah, 8 LCC ...definitely not worth me tossing up the old 2013 KNC Jupiter 550gh at 750 watts beast again...too bad....soooooo neglected....Sad Well, good luck..I will sit on hands

I've not kept up...2 questions

What is the date for the obelisk SC-1 Siacoin equipment? Is it still July/August 2018...or earlier...or unknown?

How is the progress on the decentralized storage method that the ASIC's are needed for...is that also on track with any/or above timelines

catch is with siacoin both them 'ducks' need to be in a row and at the same time...neither can fly

later

brad

1 - The shipment date for the Batch 1 was stated on June (Batch 2 will be 6 weeks after that). Obelisk team has stated they are on track and no delays are expected at the moment. Apparently there is a probability that the distribution takes place even sooner, in May, but this can't be confirmed. By the end of this month or early March, apparently they will communicate the final specs of the hardware, and rumors say the hashrate will be higher than the promised 800GHs.

2- I am a bit confused about this question, sorry. In Sia, mining and hosting are unrelated activities. The storage network is provided by hosts that offer their hard drives, currently 4 PetaBytes available in the network. The miners just provide hashing power to secure the blockchain.

my point on 2) to your point above is the worth of siacoin will be determined by its use in the network storage solution as ASIC machines are used on that network...from what I understand...thus with that in place and before bitmain came out....sia-tech said they would have 25% inflation above 100% coin in existence PER MONTH..my point is the puppy
