Just a note to anyone not yet aware that you can exchange bitcoins for PayPal at http://spendbitcoins.com. Lots of feedback on our own site and on bitcoinfeedback.com.

Just click "convert bitcoins" at the top of http://spendbitcoins.com and then choose PayPal. Unfortunately, we are unable to avoid PayPal's $0.30 + 2.9% fee, but we do not add any fees to that. You get the current Mt Gox rate!

305  Economy / Goods / Re: Americans: Spend bitcoins at Kroger group of stores on: March 18, 2012, 10:15:19 PM
How the hell do you make money?!

Fantastic question! We make some from people shopping on our affiliate links, particulary Amazon, and we make the rest by reselling the bitcoins anonymously at a premium in Australia (see the "Buy Bitcoins" tab).

Oh, and we get cashback on our Amazon credit card as well. Smiley

EDIT: Also, you can pay us for a premium listing on the "Places that accept bitcoin" page (or you can list yourself for free non-premium!)

They also have a reloadable VISA prepaid debit card.  I wonder if these Kroger gift cards from SpendBitcoins can be used to load funds (or buy a re-charge card) for loading onto the VISA.

Thanks Stephen. If anyone does this successfully please let us know!

312  Other / Off-topic / Re: New word: Anti-semantic on: March 16, 2012, 01:59:32 AM

I'm confused! Did you mean anti Semitic or anti-semantic? And is the one that you want input for hyphenated? Until I read your reply, I'll offer up my suggestion with the hope I cover both bases.

Jewish nose horses butt not Amish. (with proudhon sorry not!)

PS: What the fuck are we all doing on this thread? Did I miss the memo that there's an Atlas virus in the wild and we should all stay indoors?

I'm pretty sure the facebook poster meant anti-Semitic. But they wrote anti-semantic, which I think is a genius new word with magical powers.

In an argument:

A: You're just arguing semantics.
B: Are you anti-semantic? (And as being labelled anti-Semitic seems to be the worst label one could possibly have that may even be career ending, who wants to be labeled anything that sounds remotely like anti-Semitic?)
313  Other / Off-topic / Re: New word: Anti-semantic on: March 15, 2012, 09:29:55 PM
I think I'll have a stab at using the new word:

Politician: It is highly unlikely that anything will emerge from the MEF in terms of detailed programmatic specificity.
Interviewer: Now you're just being anti-semantic.
314  Other / Off-topic / New word: Anti-semantic on: March 15, 2012, 09:18:45 PM
Overread on facebook:

Did you see Elle Macpherson is in trouble for MORE anti semantic comments??? stupid people, dont they know that the jews have the majority of the money, most of the power and ALL of the funny people?!

So here's the game: Who can come up with the best anti-semantic comment?

315  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend Bitcoins (worldwide) | Buy Bitcoins (Australia) on: March 15, 2012, 10:36:46 AM
Is there a 1BTC fee?

Interesting you should ask that today, as today is the very day we axed that fee.

You can support Spend Bitcoins FEE FREE by always shopping through our links at http://links.spendbitcoins.com (even if you're using government issued money!)
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin address error on: March 14, 2012, 06:38:47 AM
The situation goes like this: When I paste the bitcoin receiving address into the "Pay to" field on my (official Satoshi) bitcoin client, a different bitcoin address populates the "Label" field.

What version?

0.5.2

Quote
Have you changed anything since the last time you used the client where it worked successfully?

No. And it works successfully now 99.9% of the time. This has happened maybe 3 times over the last few weeks, and I've just got a new address from the customer and sent successfully (so it's not really a problem, just a mystery).

Quote
Is it possible there is a tab or other non-printable character in the clipboard contents?  (e.g., try pasting to notepad or editor and then copying contents back from that paste).

Hmmm... I tried this. Nothing showed up in notepad, and the same error occurred when I repasted from notepad.

Here's the latest address it happened with if anyone else wants to donate satoshis to the mystery:

317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin address error on: March 14, 2012, 05:04:17 AM
I've had a strange occurrence with customers a few times and I'm wondering if it's a known issue.

The situation goes like this: When I paste the bitcoin receiving address into the "Pay to" field on my (official Satoshi) bitcoin client, a different bitcoin address populates the "Label" field. When I click "Send" the address in the "Pay to" field turns red, and no send occurs.

I have then tested sending 0.01 to the address in the "Label" field and found that it was a valid bitcoin address, but I have yet to hear back from any customers whether they have received this test bitcent or not (I have checked blockchain.info and it does appear in the blockchain).

Is this a known issue? What's going on here? Just wondering, as it's quite the mystery to me. Smiley

319  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way for Australians to buy bitcoins on: March 06, 2012, 09:56:45 PM
Doesn't having such high margins kinda defeat one of the main reasons for adopting bitcoin?

Firstly, the margins aren't as high as they might seem. They account for our own wire fees/forex fees and of course a bit of profit.

Secondly, yes, for people for whom the highest priority is price, the regular exchanges are the better option. You will find better prices at the exchanges, so if that is your main priority, you are better off using one of the exchanges. On the other hand, if promptness, service &/or anonymity are your priorities, we believe you’ll be happiest with our service. But don’t take our word for it, have a look at our testimonials.
