PIVX announced the creation of stealth stacking. If the spectre developers are slowing down, the theoretical advantage will be lost and spectre will be lost forever.

Fortunately PIVX is based on Zerocoin, while Spectrecoin is based on ring signatures, and both come with their own advantages and disadvantages. So both have their right to coexist with each other.

The wallet on both exchanges is down now, Cryptopia as well as Yobit.  Cry  Bittrex is going to delist it on March 30.

Proof that XSPEC is NOT a scam:

I find it somewhat ridiculous that it's even necessary to write a post like this to counter the FUD, but there you go.  Wink

Top wallet wake up.

Yup, if that person is reading here, please consider getting the newest wallet and configuring it to donate the stake rewards 100% to development ... it benefits the value increase of the portfolio much more than keeping the 5% for yourself. Those 5% donated to the developers would most likely result in a +20% value increase over one year if put into the hands of our developers / marketing.

The same holds for other big wallets as well, obviously.  Wink Donating 50% of your stakes gives you less value increase overall, than donating 100% which results in faster development speed.

Do we have an official roadmap for 2018?

Yes, it is on the project homepage. https://spectreproject.io/roadmap

thanks for your answer and that interesting link about the pos v2 and pos v3.
but i really wonder why they have removed that "coin age factor" in pos v3.
what's the benefit from removing it and what else are the advantages of pos v3 compared to pos v2.
in the link you provided it is not explained in detail.

Come on man  Grin I said two times that the whitepaper is linked there: https://bravenewcoin.com/assets/Whitepapers/Blackcoin-POS-3.pdf

Do you want me to quote the reasons for removing the coin age factor from it, and other improvements??

Quote
at least there should be some kind of factor which recognizes not accepted rewards and increases the chances to get a new reward some time earlier.

the "bad luck thing" with not accepted stake rewards is really not fair in my opinion.
what if someone has always bad luck with it?

Maybe you should design your own Proof of Stake algorithm then?  Wink Tongue  I don't feel like going into the details of PoS right now, read the other articles linked in the Proof-of-Stake intro I gave you earlier, try to understand what it does. It doesn't make sense to argue about something you don't fully understand. (No offense)
309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 05, 2018, 08:42:59 PM
Sad to day but it looks like the fudders are winning right now with former investors dumping like crazy. All alts are down but this is even downer. Can we estimate when something solid will be released to quieten these fudsters? Days / weeks / months?

Definitely not months. Jbg commented on this today, he is recovering from this loss of a family member, and will continue working on 1.4 now. The original release was maybe a week late on the original plan (end of February), plus we have one week delay because of his loss, so think about 2 weeks maybe? There is no hurry, everyone who is still in the game now doesn't even care if it will be delayed.

Former investors sell, new investors get in ... that's the market guys. If you want to make an investment decision, watch the fundamentals and then draw your own conclusions.

In the meanwhile we are also talking to developers who could be interested in joining as an additional core developer, and make plans to get the wider developer community involved as well. It's all getting better!  Smiley
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 05, 2018, 04:56:47 AM
It's just plain wrong to call XSPEC a scam. This is a serious project but we have had to pull through a lot of criticism and FUD to get to where we are. We have a very strong community and everyone knows that this is a major part of driving the project forward. The team is working on the next release and it will be out. I believe the best way to answer all the FUD is not to be drawn into discussion but to keep releasing the software and make it count.

Hey mandica, welcome back on the scene!  Cool

I'm not going to oppose any of the FUD because I like it. I hope the price will go down to 30 cents again so I can buy another 100k.  Grin  Remember guys, blockchains don't die with the developers. All of this FUD is about Jbg, but that is missing the point completely. He's just our core developer at the moment (and personally I don't think that he's been doing a bad job so far), but that doesn't mean that there won't be any additional devs in the future. Think long-term, we will together make this project succeed eventually.  Smiley

If you invest in a blockchain, you should invest into the project core and the people holding a stake in it, who are interested in making it succeed.
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 03, 2018, 10:05:59 AM
I have a question: I know we have 1-2 devs (anonymous). Are they working full time or in their spare time? Following the above comments I've started a review of all commits from last year and I'm trying to understand the context. I mean there are lots of commits but it's mostly meaningless UI stuff like aligning something here and there. I've yet to see any code that actually improves on the core...

They are working supposedly full time. What looks like "meaningless" UI stuff to you is probably also the result of trying to fix timing bugs in the QtWebkit / Qt combo that is used in the wallet, and caused numerous errors in the wallet, like balances not updating on startup etc.. On the one hand debugging these things is pretty difficult, and also the resulting changes in the source code are fairly minimal. If you don't believe that this has been worked on full-time, please ask JBG in Discord what took most of his time.

How can I change default data folder location?

I am trying to start Spectre with the following *.bat file:
Code:
spectre.exe -datadir=E:\ProgramData\SpectreCoin\

With or without last splash. But it just ignoring all that command-line options...

Nope I think that doesn't work. Feel free to file a Github issue here: https://github.com/XSPECOfficial/spectre
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 01, 2018, 07:52:40 PM
This is not unfair, and it is not "our" proof of stake system. It is called PoS v3, used by hundreds of coins. The coin age factor was removed compared to the previous version, PoS v2. For more info, see https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake

If you let your computer stake for one year, then you will receive about 5% of your balance in total, within a certain confidence interval. As you only have 500 coins, that would be 25 XSPEC. Each stake has a size of about 2 XSPEC, so you will get roughly 13 (accepted) stake rewards per year.
Which technical changing features of PoS v3 make this version different and better than the older version?

I said it before, the coin age factor was removed. For other changes, see the whitepaper of PoS v3 that is linked here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake

PS: Yay we have 100 pages!  Cool
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 01, 2018, 07:50:11 PM
Someone posted the follow text in the speculation room and i wanted to get a answer by the telegram admins of xspec but i get banned.

"Take a look at the coin they copied, it has everything xspec has, it is xspec with a different name, xspec doesn't have 1 single feature this coin doesn't have, do you not understand the idea of taking a coin and rebranding it? I don't view TOR transactions as anything special either, a proper private chain eliminates the need for TOR, tell me if a seller gives you his true private wallet address, Monero as an example, why do you need TOR integration? just use your Monero wallet to send to his wallet rather than having to go through the TOR layer, it didn't do much for shadow cash's existence either.. and if we look at TOR based sales, Monero is the norm, good reason for this.
also xspec has a richlist, would I keep my private funds in a coin that shows my total amount by wallet address? how's that private?

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/#!rich << very anonymous isn't it.

And you are just bringing up features now, features that shadow cash a coin with a 1.5 million cap had before xspec copied it's code and made not 1 improvement.

You either have no clue at all or you're just here to shill your shitty coin.

Back to my point though, it's a scam, copy + paste of shadow cash, nothing more, no known team, 1 developer, top 10% hold over 30% of xspec.. I know this due to a richlist Wink
Can any one tell me the spread on Monero?

Also for the record I hold 0 Monero or any other privacy coin, just calling out a scam project.

Also why did it go to $5 in December? coinbase made 43% of it's yearly revenue in December alone, tons of new traders, they go online looking for a good deal and find this, the #1 shilled coin online, seriously feel for these people.

If it was a good coin, being on the market for a whole year now, it's market cap would be far far higher than it is, people with money are not stupid, stupid people can't put in enough to drive it's price unless it's the likes of what we seen in December.

Also in 1 year, you would expect some new features in a fork, it's still just a mirror of shadow cash.

For every shitty shill reply you put up trying to convince new traders, I'll put up one which does far more damage to your shit coin.. so please keep going! dig that hole deeper.

Also you've got 2 posts on this forum as of now, 2 in this thread.. signing up to defend shit won't work."

The reason why that was deleted is that there are so many wrong assumptions here that it is very difficult to NOT see this as pointless FUD. But I will try to give you a small overview:

1. Tor is required to be resistant to censorship (preventing connections to the network), prosecution (in places where using such a currency might be illegal), IP/timing correlation attacks and DDoS.
2. A rich list itself does not tell you anything other than the distribution, if the transactions made are anonymous and impossible to correlate.
Private balances do not show up in the rich list, these are the balances that are used for private transactions.
3. ShadowCash is no longer actively developed, the Spectre network is running via Tor, the ring size selection has been improved, and our developers are currently working on a new intuitive and robust wallet, a new splitting/merging algorithm for stealth transactions, as well as stealth staking.
4. The distribution of the rich list is not unusual for a coin of this size.
5. The price did go up to $5 in December because of speculation. The price of cryptocurrencies is very volatile.

Hope that helps a little bit?
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: March 01, 2018, 01:00:31 PM
so if the staking reward is totally random and the chances are the same everyday it basically means that in theory if you have always bad luck you could probably never ever get any (accepted) reward whilst someone else with the same staking amount and alot of luck could get many rewards every couple of days?
that's not really a fair system isn't it?

why does this coin have such a bad and shitty pos system?
i know other pos coins which have a more fair system in which your chances get higher to get a new reward if your last reward wasn't accepted.

i'm getting really upset because of this and it feels like i get ripped off in some way because i let my computer running day and night and have the costs for electricity.
i'm staking more than 500 spectre for several weeks now and didn't get anything yet.
twice it showed a staking reward of about 2 spectre each but both weren't accepted.

it's just not fair if it only depends on luck or bad luck (apart from staking amount).
some other factors should be included such as waiting time (i.e. by dynamic staking weight).

Each stake has a size of about 2 XSPEC, so you will get roughly 13 (accepted) stake rewards per year.

thanks for your answer.
what i meant with "whole time" is that i initially had to wait one month for the first reward which wasn't accepted unfortunately.
now is it possible that i have to wait for another month to get another reward (which is hopefully accepted then) or is the possibility bigger now to get something earlier?
i mean if the chances of getting a reward have increased because of that not accepted reward or got my chances "reset"?

No, your chances are the same every day, they only depend on the amount of coins you have.

my other point was if "coin control" and "active wallet" have also impact on the staking like it is the case for other coins or not?

I don't think so.
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: February 23, 2018, 11:06:37 AM
i will add another 100 xspec very soon, then it would be a little more than 500 staking.

my connection is steady and reliable and my wallet is almost staking 24/7 with a few interruptions sometimes.
are these few interruptions very bad for the staking?

concerning the not accepted reward, will i have to wait the whole time again now for the next possible reward or will it take less time now because it wasn't accepted before?

how many connections would be the optimum?
i have usually about 20 connections.
is that enough or should i try to increase the amount of connections by adding more nodes?

how about keeping the wallet "active" (not just open for staking)?
for another coin i have read that it was good to keep the wallet active by doing little transactions, i.e. sending a certain amount back to exchange and then back to wallet while coins are maturing after doing coin control.
this is supposed to boost the stake rewards.
does anyone know about this?

Interruptions in being online don't have a big influence, the only thing that's significant is the total time you are online.

There is no "whole time" you have to wait again, it's all random. The displayed time is the estimated average waiting time for people with a similar amount of coins.

20 connections is perfectly fine. 1-2 connections would be enough for being able to stake.

You are staking inputs, not coins. If you have received a new input, it is excluded from staking for a certain time, so it is best to just leave your coins sitting in your wallet and wait.
319  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain with password support - Is it possible? on: February 23, 2018, 09:18:36 AM
There are no "accounts" in Bitcoin though.  Wink There are public and private keys. Transactions need to be visible in order to make the distributed ledger work.

The only thing you could password-protect is your private key, which is already possible with current implementations (known as "locking" the wallet).
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: February 23, 2018, 08:48:24 AM
yep i dont quite  follow the tech side of it. but is looks like they made a speical  linux wallet that u can install on the tails precentent volume .Here is the link https://deeponion.org/community/threads/tutorial-deeponion-in-tails-persistent-volume.29724/  .Maybe spectre can follow suit  Grin

Hmm, I am not entirely convinced that this is a good idea ...  Roll Eyes Reading this made me feel somewhat uncomfortable. But thanks for sharing!

Essentially, this is not how TAILS should be used. The "amnesic" part of it is very important, if you download third party binaries and store them in a persistent volume, you should better just use a normal linux distribution and encrypt the hard disk. Otherwise it will give you a false sense of security.
