Well a splendid fine good morning ladies and gentlemen of Bitcoinland.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpquqSUlyDg

I see we had yet another ATH since I put myself back to bed... currently $8239USD/$10546CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Total (incl. forkcoins) is $9551USD/$12223CAD.

I need strong coffee to make sure I'm not dreaming. Go freaking Bitcoin go.

Look like this little rally has slowed for now. I'm going back to bed,

See y'all at the crack of noon.

Beware of this bear, though.

Seriously.

Run.

Honey badgers don't run.

This thread will be plastered with bear Meme's next week.

There's a bear in the room.

I can smell it.

You want bear memes?

Did it again. Woke up to relieve myself just in time for an ATH.

Now I want to stay up to see if we hit $8.1k... oh there it is.
3089  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2017, 08:37:57 AM
Full credit for having the vision and sticking to it through some long dark years.

I bought some AEON today for $2.45.  Maybe if I hang onto that for 10 years it will also be worth $8k.  It’s a Monero fork, equivalent to Litecoin.

Bitcoin is still your best bet. It's not too late to make a pisspot full of money just by holding Bitcoin.

When I bought in at $68 I felt like I'd already missed the boat. I was disappointed I hadn't learned of it 6 months earlier when I could have bought for less than a tenth of that. I really wished I'd found out about it when it was worth a few pennies.

Luckily, I realized how important Bitcoin was and didn't panic when it dropped to $50 after hitting $266. Instead I bought more.

Same thing during the long bear market following the Gox implosion. I kept buying all the way down and on every dip on the way back up. I amused myself through the tough times by sparring with Bitcoin-hating trolls like Notlambchop and Matthecat.

I shrugged off the loss of 50 coins to MtGox even though it raised the average cost of my other coins up to close to $200. I've kept buying the dips all the way up since then. Now my average cost is over $300 per. I'm still buying, except that now I'm buying a tenth of a coin at a time instead of ten at a time.
_____

I can see how some people feel it's too late to buy in. They said that at $30, again at $300 and again at $3000. They'll say it again at $30,000 but when John Mcafee avoids fellating himself on national television, people will be envious of those who bought for "only" $30k just as they are now envious of those who only paid triple digits.  It's all relative.
_____

I really don't see any current altcoin having the potential for growth that Bitcoin has. It's open source, its network is the biggest computer force in history, and  it has the advantage of being first.

The reason for the early success of Litecoin was that it extended the life of pre-ASIC mining equipment but most people mined it to buy Bitcoins.

Ethereum promised smart contracts but it was basically a scam on Vitalik Buterin's part to weasel other people out of their bitcoins by pre-mining and then holding the first ICO, payable in Bitcoin. Eventually the smart contract function will be added to Bitcoin via sidechains.

While there are some attempts at creating a revolutionary blockchain-based currency (especially in seeking anonymity) most are just lame me-too attempts.

IMHO only Bitcoin holds the potential to keep showing the gains we've seen these last 8-9 years. We may have missed the innovator stage of the adoption curve but we're still in the early-adopter phase. Just wait until we get to the early mainstream stage. It's not too far off.

Not sure why but seeing the price over $8k I remember back to the time I shorted bitcoin at $2.50.

We hates you.

Envy not hate.

Me too.  Sad
3091  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: November 20, 2017, 01:53:10 AM
No jackpot but we finally broke through to 5 digits in CAD.

I feel a small celebration is due but seeing as I'm fighting some kind of flu or cold bug, I'll just stay home and pour a small tot of Taylor Fladgate 2009 and cut a little bit of apple-smoked Scottish cheddar. That shouldn't interfere too much with my convalescence.

Sure, we touched on $10kCAD before but seeing a whole day averaging over $10k is definitely a milestone.

Now let's see USD, EUR, and GBP follow. Love those extra digits. Remember "no more triple digits in 2013"? Glad I was buying then.

Cheers all.

RoomBot

this is your final warning, I have only waited this long due to your legendary status and the historical quality of your posts

it pains me, but quote him again and I will put you on ignore

Is it alright to make oblique references to bad Moravian folk music?  Tongue

So far this year since July bitcoin price has stayed within the channels of this pitchfork drawn on a log scale chart:

The trend lines suggest a mid-term top around $9000 followed by a correction back to $7500. Price could also correct back the the mid-line at $6500. Where it gets interesting is if price breaks through the top trend line. Also something to keep in mind is January tends to be a down month, so I am expecting a rally into middle of December then some profit taking

I cringe whenever someone talks about profit taking in regards to exchanging bitcoin for fiat. Bitcoin is not a stock. I don't know how people sleep at night with their money in fiat.

Bingo. Whenever the price of fiat rises to a peak, I take my profit by buying more Bitcoin.

Echo chambers are useful in a recording studio.

You really want the studio as anechoic as possible, and handle all that stuff with FX chains in post.

Mostly.

Come to think of it now, you are absolutely correct. Having recorded in a studio I should know better. I stand corrected, thanx .

How times have changed. Back in the 1950s they'd use a stairwell. Sounded better than any tape loop, reverb spring, or digital delay.

I just made a whole slew of txns with 3 cents fees and none of them have confirmed yet. SegshellCoin, y u so fail? Cry

So you're the one spamming the network with low-fee transactions and swamping the mempool. Shame on you.  Angry

3097  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why i think the CME listing Bitcoin Futures is actually a bad thing! on: November 19, 2017, 01:01:52 AM
They're only going to be able to manipulate the market if they actually buy into the market, and no just bet on the future of the market. And if the buy in then sure once they've bought in enough they'll be able to manipulate it. But for them to buy in that much the price will skyrocket.

This.

The only way they can manipulate the market down is to dump coins. To do this they'll need large reserves, which due to Bitcoin's scarcity will entail spending lots of money up front and driving up the price in the process. Net result: almost even. Meanwhile Bitcoins natural growth will keep marching on.

Squeezing shorts will be much easier. They'll simply buy with the vast amount of fiat currency they already have, also driving up the price. Only the rubes will lose money.

Remember, this isn't an ETF. It's a futures betting operation, a sort of casino. Their customers won't be investing, they'll be gambling. All bookies and casino operators expect their vigorish. They also decide on the spread or number of zeroes on the roulette wheel.

I see this as just an expanded form of Satoshi Dice, and we all know how much SD helped Bitcoin get through the early days when it was trying to establish itself beyond alpaca socks, overpriced pizza, and the Silk Road.

Every little shopkeeper, hooker and cabbie in Vegas benefits from the big casinos being there. I personally welcome the futures markets to Bitcoinland.

I agree that more of our newest distracting troll-job ruphej's posts should be deleted, but likely it is just a matter of time that owner of thread gets to such deletions and perhaps mods suspend or ban such irrelevant nonsensicals.

Just to play devil's advocate, I'll say that he did show us that not all bad country music comes from Dixie.

Moravia's a country too, or at least it used to be.  Cheesy

Alright. We're back over $10kCAD on Bitcoinaverage. Feels good.

Now let's go for the ATH and $10kUSD.

when is wikipedia going to start accepting bitcoin for donations? hmmm?   Roll Eyes  ~n00bs

It accepts Bitcoin for ages.

https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give#bitcoin

ok i see ya hidden~ they are certainly not promoting that in their current fund drive :\ hmm

What bugs me is that they not only make it hard to find, they make it hard to do.

Instead of just posting a QR code and accepting anonymous contributions, they use a third-party payment processor and want identification.

I went through that process several years ago but told them that they were possibly missing out on donations by not simply posting a QR code. It fell on deaf ears.

They don't have a clue about how Bitcoiners think nor about how much the Bitcoin nouveau riche could help their cause.

Needless to say, I haven't given them a penny or satoshi since. I love and appreciate Wikipedia and would love to help but not if they're going to go prying into who I am.
