Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still going sideways preparing for another assault on $9k I see... currently $8646USD/$11312CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Ho. Hum.

Quote from: “Saifedean Ammous”
“The most subversive thing you can to with bitcoin is saving”

It's a shame but it's absolutely true.

How times change. I guess I'm showing my age but when I was a kid saving was considered a virtue. Usury was a crime. Loan sharks were sleazy gangsters akin to pushers and pimps.

We were advised to save up to buy things we needed. Borrowing to buy things was considered foolish weakness, like drug addiction or gambling. Bank accounts were for saving, not spending. Sure, some payments were made by cheque (i.e. utility bills) but most purchases were made with good clean honest cash.

Bank credit was for businesses, for earning money, not spending it. Individuals borrowed mainly for mortgages or home improvement loans which were themselves a form of business loan. For everything else you saved until you could afford to buy with cash.

Consumer credit was on a small personal level. People would send their kids to the neighborhood grocery store for a few things during the week and the grocer would put them on your tab to be settled up in cash when he delivered your weekly grocery order on Saturday.

Banks paid people to save money which they then lent out to businesses. There were no service charges for regular services like deposits and withdrawals. "Prizes" like toasters or other household appliances were given as inducements to open accounts. No identification was required (nor asked for) to open an account. The fact that you trusted them with your money was enough.

Benjamin Franklin in his wisdom said, "neither borrower nor lender be". How sad that we have allowed ourselves to become wage and debt slaves.

"Hodling" is emancipation.

Just yesterday, my daughter asked me what happened to Haiku Sundays.  She has yet to reach her teens and already she's accusing us WO members of having a short attention spans.  I told her were just extremely focused on Bitcoin; she rolled her eyes.

I still usually post haikus on Sundays.

I've just missed the last few Sundays due to travel or spotty internet in the jungle.

A Monday haiku
Will have to suffice this week.
It's just a day late.

Nice to see your daughter reading WO. Does she have a BTC stash?

BBC News - Bitcoin virtual currency reaches all-time high price
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21601608

remember this?

Clear as a bell.

It was a month and a half after I discovered Bitcoin and the price had already doubled as I gave myself a crash course in dual-key cryptography and Bitcoin history and realized it was not only NOT a scam but one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of our time.

I was drawn to the fact that it was decentralized, open-source, and peer-to-peer. I realized it could be to wealth what the internet was to information, a money superhighway so to speak.

I'd actually made the decision to buy and mine Bitcoin in mid-February but had wasted time transferring money to Paypal (no credit cards) to buy coins, foolishly not realizing that Paypal would have nothing to do with anything Bitcoin.

Then I realized that Butterfly Labs accepted Paypal so I spent my money on ASICs instead. That was about the time this article was written. I was promised delivery by May. LOL Who knows how many coins my miner had already mined by the time I received it in October.

By the time I had figured out how to actually buy coins anonymously, the price had doubled again up to $68 (USD and CAD were at par in those days).

My miner ended up mining me around 5BTC before becoming obsolete shortly after receiving it. If I'd bought bitcoins instead as originally intended, I would have gotten over 20 coins for my $650.

Oh well. Live and learn. At least it wasn't as expensive a lesson as MtGox teaching me to never use an exchange or otherwise expose coins to the internet.

Ahh. Those were the days. So much excitement and anticipation. Now I just sit back and watch the price like some kind of abstract sports score, buying or receiving revenues in Bitcoin whenever possible and selling only when necessary.

Living happily ever after is fun and stress-free. Thank you Bitcoin.

Good  morning  Bitcoinland. I see the battlle for $9k rages on.

Just when some folks started to think about putting the Vegeta can back on the pantry shelf, we drop back to where we were 3 days ago... currently $8630USD $11276CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

This could take some time.
2187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 17, 2020, 06:47:27 PM
Good afternoon Bitcoinland.

The rise continues... currently $8885USD $11610CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Nice to see $9k as fleeting as it was. We can all celebrate with memes of salt-vegetable-MSG seasonings (or children`s TV cartoons if you prefer) and wait for the $9k battle to really be over, as long as it takes.

Regardless of Vegeta fun, the real fun will be the battle for 5 digits.

Go Bitcoin go.

Thanx... next target: 2600.  Cool

Good morning Bitcoinland from the Maya jungle.

Haven`t posted here in the few days since I got out here (internet problems) but the price continues to rise..... currently $8863USD $11580CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

2020 is starting out quite nicely.

Go Bitcoin go.

How can there be an "ATH of the year"? Huh

Short attention span.

Then again it could be a typo. The T key is right beside the Y key.

Good evening Bitcoinland from my air-conditioned hotel room in Playa del Carmen.

So far so good. I got in here yesterday and the price was about $7.8k and now it`s up over $8.2k... currently $8232USD $10743CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully we can put that crap to rest about my travels south somehow causing the price to fall. It was getting annoying.

2191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2020, 12:22:26 AM
No rocket memes yet.

We're still way down in quadruple digits.

It's a nice little rise though.

2193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving, who's closest with actual Nrs TAKE A CHANCE on the LIST !!! on: January 04, 2020, 04:29:29 PM
I'll take 9700-9750 if its still available.

I figure recovery from the winter doldrums should be started and the battle for $10k should be underway. This was the closest slot still open.

Thanks MicG. You're a champ.
2194  Economy / Speculation / Re: When is the perfect time to sell BTC? on: January 04, 2020, 04:16:33 PM
The perfect time to sell is only when you absolutely must.

Wouldn't you rather be holding a nest egg of Bitcoin rather than a depreciating asset like fiat currencies?

Happy 11th birthday Bitcoinland.

Up a wee after debarting... currently $7391USD/$9595CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Go Bitcoin go.
2196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Moving away 2019 and looking forward for 2020. A Bullish or Still a bear season? on: January 02, 2020, 03:35:37 PM
The title of this thread is in error. It should read "a Bearish or Still a Bull Season".

Having doubled in price, 2019 was obviously a bull year.

I see no reason 2020 should turn bearish. With the halving approaching, the bull market should continue.
2197  Economy / Speculation / Re: DON'T MISS! Proof Bitcoin/Crypto Nowhere Near Bottom! on: January 01, 2020, 07:03:12 PM
Bitcoin is still in a bear market after two years, and had some sideways movement during the last year.

Nonsense. It doubled in price in 2019.

A happy New Year's Eve morning Bitcoinland.

Still going sideways... currently $7249USD/$9427CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It's starting to look like December will end up where we started.

Congrats to Gembitz and Roach on your newborn baby Yoda.  Grin

So this person wants to be "referred to as them or they rather than he or she"?

Since when did a singular person become plural?

The proper term would be "he or she", or even better, "it".

Good morning Coinland.
Happy 5th day of Xmas.
5 golden bitcoins.

We're creeping upward
Seven four twenty dollars
(Bitcoinaverage).

Let's finish the year
With a spectacular rise
For a new decade.
