361  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2018, 04:12:04 PM
I think, a system like the merit system is a good idea, but its not well implemented. I think the needed amount of merit is too high.
But maybe im just a bit frustrated, because i was close to full member and now need 90! more merit to achieve this rank.

Maybe they should have awarded more merit at the start, so the upranking prozess wouldnt be delayed this much.

Right ... even if I would get one merit for every post I am writing, and do one post per day, my activity will be at least 1240 until I can possibly hope to become a legendary.  Roll Eyes  But's that's how life goes, especially in crypto. Sometimes you lose and other people win, sometimes it's the opposite. As in trading, what matters is that you are continuing to contribute quality decisions and posts. I think I might actually just ignore all this stuff, as someone suggested.  Smiley
362  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2018, 01:26:11 PM
Hmm, btw. I wonder why some people with Hero rank got 1000 merit, and others got 500 like me?

Because the Legendary range is 775-1030 and you are on 742, only those above 775 got 1000.

I don't want to argue about this, but the OP clearly says:

Quote
For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank.

So for Hero members that would be 500.  Wink  The problem here is that Hero members do not level up automatically when reaching the minimum amount required for Legendary.

So there's a little loophole here that would enable someone who has never made 1 quality post in his life to become a Legendary member, if he wrote many nonsense posts and got an activity count up to 780 until last week, and now has a merit of 1000 that will allow him to become a Legendary, still without making any quality posts.  Grin

Hmm, btw. I wonder why some people with Hero rank got 1000 merit, and others got 500 like me?

Yeah of course opening in a new tab is better than opening it in the current tab. But my point was having a button that updates in-place instead.

If you do not care about ranks, you probably might not care about merit either. You don't have to give anyone anything should you not want to, and since ranks aren't important to you then don't care about whether you're going to receive merit either.

Fair point. But that kinda misses the point of having a merit system to begin with, because other people will be distracted from the content just as much.
364  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 29, 2018, 11:36:46 AM
Tbh. I don't like this system too much, because it draws away my attention from the actual discussion. I don't care about ranks, I just don't want to think about it. Now everytime someone posts, you have to think about whether giving merit or not, and also looking if you received any merit.

The other thing that has been said many times I think ... it should not open a new tab. That is actually an incentive to NOT click the button, because it takes away my attention from the content completely. If it would just be a button that updates in place, like a "Like" button ... that would be ok. But I would also like to take back my like in case I accidentally clicked on it, instead of the quote button.
365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 29, 2018, 11:19:34 AM
Hi guys, I would like to join this community. Is there a discord channel to which I can join?

Yes, the Discord invite link can be found in the ANN.

i downloaded the wallet today (my first wallet ever and its totally synced, i normally leave the coins on the exchange)
Can someone please provide me the answers to the following questions to help me further.

1 - the wallet is not staking because coins are immature. How long (on average) does it take to become mature ? (hours/ days / weeks / months ?)
2 - I can't find the location of the map/program on my pc where it's downloaded. if i buy a new laptop, how to transfer the wallet incl. coins to the new laptop ? (just copy paste the whole map?
3 - if its possible to transfer the program to another laptop, will the public key / private key / password for unlocking be the same ?

kindest regards,
snowboard

1: Maturity time is 288 blocks, as can be found here: https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin#Specifications
2: You could just send the coins to your new address on the new laptop.
3: If you want to copy wallet data directly, you have to copy the file called wallet.dat in the data directory. https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin#Data_directory

541 * 0.05 / 365 = 0,074 XSPEC

That math correct? Because if it's so low I'm ditching staking because it's not worth it.

Yes, that's how it is. 5% per year. That means you will get roughly 27 XSPEC during the year.

366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 28, 2018, 09:19:17 PM
i would soon like to invest in XSPEC and there would still be a question about pos.
how many coins do i need to stake and how high is the roi?

I have just earlier today started staking my XSPEC coins.
I should receive my reward in about 7 days. My question is, is it safe to restart my computer during this time or will it reset back to 8 days if I restart?

Both of you should take a look at this little FAQ that I wrote: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake

The reward is 5% p.a.
367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 27, 2018, 08:25:05 PM
where can i find more information about how to use the wallet?

Uhm ... just ask? It should be pretty obvious if you have used any other coin wallet before. If there is anything unclear, just ask. We will have a new wallet somewhere in February anyway, but I'm always happy to help! Smiley

Is anyone having syncing issues with the new Mac wallet, I have noticed a red bar that will pop up in the top right corner, if I hover over the bar it reads something along the lines of wallet out of sync, catching up to current block. I have only noticed it doing this since updating to the new wallet. I have also had 6 of 7 of my last stakes "generated but not accepted stakes". Could this be due to the syncing issue I am having??

Any help is much appreciated

The red bar thing is called syncing, it's a good thing!  Cheesy

What "generated but not accepted" means, you can look up here: https://github.com/bitcoinx2/crypto-intro-guide/wiki/Proof-of-Stake#why-is-my-stake-conflicted-or-not-accepted

Note that you won't be staking until your wallet is fully synced.

Hi Guys, I want to ask about spectrecoin wallet.
I haven´t downloaded it yet so here is my question.
If I open my wallet for staking, the wallet must be "running" all the time.
When someone unauthorised gets to the computer does he have the possibility to transfer the funds or is it "locked"?

Thanks

You can encrypt your wallet and "unlock [it] for staking", which means that the GUI will not allow making transactions unless the password is given.
371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 25, 2018, 10:26:03 PM
I´m staking since several Days with the new 1.3.5.0 - working fine - but it is normal that i received every time the same size stake?? Always the same amount.

Yes, this is called PoS v3.  Wink  The reward is roughly ~2 XSPEC, a little bit more.

With PoS v2 you have varying rewards.
372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 25, 2018, 04:52:43 PM
Can a founder or other senior member of this project PM me please, I’m a large holder and need to discuss something privately.

Thanks!

Hi nemwanderer, please join Discord or Slack, where you can PM jbg, Beachguy or me, or anyone else you like. Wink

You can find the Slack invite link in the ANN. Discord is not linked there yet, you can find all the invite links (including Discord) on the Coinwiki: https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin#Project_links

Hey is there a way to bootstrap so I don't have to download the chain?

No. It's just ~200MB so you can just let it sync, it shouldn't take too long. Note that if you use a bootstrap, that's just a different way of downloading the chain.

How many devs are involved with the coin?

Two core devs and 1 web developer, see https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin#Official_team

I've just felt the need to register in Bitcointalk to say this: The new wallet is amazing! Congratz to the dev team. Grin Grin Grin

Thanks! What you are looking at is the old wallet though. Grin  The new wallet, version 1.4 that comes out in February will be even cooler!  Wink Much cooler actually.
374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 21, 2018, 01:23:16 PM
Hi!

After intense research about privacy coins the last days I have to say this project really stands out! Great tech and as I have seen nice community ready to help.
Only in marketing terms, especially missing whitepaper, look of website (my opinion) and "marketing itself" there is room for improvement. I have already read that you first focus on the product and I am totally fine with that. Way better than promoting something that is not existent. But don't wait too long  Wink

My question is if there is an approximate date when the linux wallet will be released? Really looking forward to it.

Keep going guys, you can do it!

Thanks! You can use the wallet on Linux by compiling it from Github, there is good documentation on that and jbg has written a bash script to make it as easy as possible. Just follow the instructions: https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre You can come to Slack to the #client-support channel if you have any problems.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Viewly ∙ A decentralized YouTube on: January 19, 2018, 07:15:07 PM
Looks like an interesting project! How do you feel about rolling out your own coin, instead of relying on the Ethereum network for token distribution? I certainly won't invest if it's an Ethereum token, because there are way too many of them already, and I don't like Ethereum.

I think if there is your own coin on the blockchain, this can also be used as an incentive payment method for content creators later, so you'll need your own blockchain+coin anyway. Why not distribute those coins in an ICO right away to the ICO investors?

Also please consider switching to Slack or Discord, not everybody has a mobile phone to join the Telegram platform. Slack and Discord also work on mobile, but don't require a phone number.

"Selling pressure", as you are noting it in your whitepaper, certainly won't be a problem if you make a PoS coin with 5% per year, for example. It is an incentive for people to run nodes on the network, which in turn could also be used for CDN functionality etc.

Any answers?  Huh
376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THATS WHY SPECTRECOIN IS SCAM! on: January 19, 2018, 04:16:59 PM
If you want to lose money with a scam coin go with xspec aka spectrecoin. Most of the coins are in hands of few people who will drop the coins which will result in a pump and dump. Dont be stupid and get scammed.

Nah ... I've been with this coin since the ICO. There is nothing scammy about it at all, you can read up the full history here:

https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin

We have written down the full history in order to provide full transparency, so that everybody can get a clear picture of the project.  Smiley  Most of the bigger wallets have simply not sold their ICO coins yet ... they were lucky and believe in the project, maybe some have lost their keys ... they can only sell their coins once, so it's not a permanent issue.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 19, 2018, 08:55:36 AM
After reading your website introduction, Stealth Addresses is what I look forward to, it should be coming soon

We already have stealth addresses and stealth transactions since version 1!  Cool  The only things that are still to do are making them the default (which has some backwards compatibility problems, for example with exchanges) and staking on private balances. But you can already use all these things!
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 18, 2018, 12:41:55 PM
hi devs, how does it go with bisq implementation?

Completed, you can trade Spectrecoin on Bisq right now!  Cool (maybe you could start by creating some order book entries, because there are none at the moment. xD )
379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Spectrecoin[XSPEC] TOR+OBFS4, Ring Sig, Stealth! on: January 17, 2018, 10:32:33 PM
Not my fault you can't read between the lines.

I however have no idea why you feel the constant need to insult. You may be compensating for something or are simply too salty because of your losses ...I don't know. I asked a simple question because I wanted to hear the opinion (or a confirmation of my thoughts) of others. EleanorZ gave me the answer I was hoping for. Now go and find somebody else to pick on. We are not in high-school anymore.

That's because we are on Bitcointalk, welcome!  Grin  They don't mean it personally, the best thing to do is just to get used to it ...

And btw. I am very happy about the new 1.3.5 release, I have updated the wiki with the newest info: https://altcoinwiki.org/en/SpectreCoin
380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is spectrecoin a scam? on: January 15, 2018, 07:56:11 PM
Well, what would you do if you had figured out a way to do this? Explain your idea to everybody and spread the news everywhere? In that case bigger coins, which have much more funding, could implement the technique in a fraction of the time our developers could. And then when we're finally done, everyone would just ask "ok but why are you doing what coin XY already implemented 2 months ago"? It's in our own interest as Spectrecoin investors that the devs will keep this secret until everything is ready to go.

Also, our software is already valuable on its own ... we're not an ICO any more that just wants to collect money. We have a working product and a coin that is valued around $100M USD, and a stealth transaction mechanism that works. Calling it a scam just because of one single feature that has been announced but not released yet, is a bit hypocritical. Wink
