381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Jaxx wallet is not working for Dash deposits on: April 13, 2017, 11:29:55 PM
Well to be clear the old version did stop working for DASH and there was not an updated version for windows right away.  You could get the updated version on iOS and Android but it wasn't out for windows for another week or so after that.  But yes, if you could install the newest version somewhere it was working correctly.  If you have the older version DASH was and is broken.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why is bitmain selling its new gear at crazy low prices? on: April 13, 2017, 06:35:57 PM
I might be mistaken but doesn't asicboost have to be enabled both poolside and miner side?  I was under the impression that miners purchased by the public were not using it because A) only bitmain's pool (or pools) has (or have) it enabled and B) the miners don't have it enabled either.

When the S9 first dropped (actually right before it was for sale to the public) there was some controversy over whether it would work on Kano.is because someone got their hands on one way early and it was trying to use asicboost and Kano.is obviously didn't have that setup. So Kano's pool saw it as sending unknown stratum commands and was dropping it from the pool.

So my understanding was that if asicboost is not compatible with segwit it would only hurt bitmain's internal mining operation.

EDIT: I should mention that I did see where bitmain claimed they have never used it on mainnet and only ever used it on testnet but I can't see any reason to believe that.  The miners are capable of it, they admitted that much, they run the miners and the pool, why would they not use it?
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: anyone else had this prolem before? on: April 13, 2017, 06:08:41 PM
so this this normal? isn't it skipping all these things to work on? i'm just not getting any shares
 Huh

I am not familiar with that pool but can you assign your own difficulty?  If so assign a low difficulty and you will see more shares submitted.  But low diff shares are worth less so it shouldn't make any difference in the long run unless the difficulty is just way too high for your hashrate.  Most pools will adjust diff up and down based on how many shares your worker submits to try and find an optimal level where the miner is submitting a handful of shares per minute.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: anyone else had this prolem before? on: April 13, 2017, 05:06:49 PM
I'm not sure I see the problem.  It looks like a lot of work resets but there is enough time in between some of them to suspect it is normal.  If you mean that you aren't finding shares then I would guess it has to do with the difficulty that is assigned to your worker.
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL - WHAT IS GOING ON? on: April 12, 2017, 03:41:43 PM
They gave me two hours to pay, and I was unfortunately notified at 0300.  If there are only fifty, I may have to sit this one out.  I'm too old to wait around in the middle of the night!

Oh man I hear that.  Luckily I am barely young enough that I was able to stay up and handle it on skype and get it sorted.  Took like an hour and half all told and kept me up at least an hour past my bed time.
I look forward to hearing how well it runs!  Hopefully they will crank up the production and I'll be able to add a few to my collection.
Quick update.  Baikal refreshed the pricing payment window for me this morning, so I was able to get my original order paid for.  I'm sure some of you will have them before I will, but I'll post pictures if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Nice.  You know I have a good feeling about these guys as a company.  I like that they are telling people that contact them about ordering a hundred that they can't do it. I like that they limited people to just one so more people can get one.  I hope they improve the website before the next round of hardware selling.

http://www.baikalminer.com/

Website is down. "Request timeout please try again later..."

Interesting, isn't it?  Tongue

That was weird.  But back up now.

XMR pool is acting weird again.  Undecided
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal Cube - Power supply on: April 12, 2017, 01:29:50 AM
I think you just want any old PC power supply with a 6 pin PCIe connector.  If you try and get all fancy you may damage the thing.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why is bitmain selling its new gear at cary low prices? on: April 11, 2017, 11:46:32 PM
Personally I have no faith in LTC to maintain a decent price.  I don't know if bitmain feels that way too or not.
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / new Baikal cube miner on: April 11, 2017, 06:57:11 PM
I actually got an email from Charles Zhou.

he explained to me that:

Quote
We got thousands of emails and orders since we launched the Cube miner. We need to deal with these emails and orders one by one.

So I guess that - given that they are quite a small company, it just takes them a long time to deal with all the orders.

I paid my Dash and sent them confirmation screenshots so hopefully I will get my miner when they have time to process my order.

I am now pretty reassured that they are not a scam - they are just VERY busy.

I still think it would help things a great deal if they could fix their website so that it was a proper effective shop-front, and could independantly deal with orders, rather than the necessity of making an order and then ALSO communicating with them via email and skype to try to conduct the payment, etc. It would make them appear much more professional and trustworthy in my opinion.

Maybe this is a side effect of doing business in China - maybe in China it is difficult to sell products to international customers directly from a website, but I don't know much about it so I'm just guessing,

I will be so happy and relieved when/if I finally get my cube miner delivered. Crossung my fingers but I would love to hear from people who have ordered and actually received one of the new cube miners - so please feel free to post here when they arrive and keep us all happy.

You should edit your first post to this thread and remove the word scam from the title.  Not fair to associate that word with them without good reason.

How many people have gotten a confirmation on buying one of these cubes?  I placed my order and sent an email but nothing has happened since...  Can't pay because I have no payment address, plus not even sure of the price.

message them on skype, they will ask for your order # and then you will be able to go into your baikal account to see the address to send btc. You will need to enter the tx id number afterwards and email them a picture of the transaction once there are confirmations

Be careful, most of the Baikalminer skype accounts are fake. The black/yellow logo should be the legit one.

I actually went down that path earlier but skype is such a peice of shit now that microsoft owns it.  I couldn't get into my old skype account and when I finally created a new account I saw a bunch of scam baikal accounts so I just bailed on it and uninstalled skype.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best mining software for G-Blades on: April 11, 2017, 12:31:44 AM
I was on the verge of shutting down my g-blacks.  Actually I probably ran them for at least a month or two where they should have been off but alls of a sudden LTC goes up and they are making money again.  Who knew?

@OP I am using BFGminer for my gridseed gear.

I would take 2-6 depending on prices.
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone want to do a Baikal Groupbuy? on: April 10, 2017, 03:12:35 PM
Did those of you who managed to get a payment address and pay for it contact them through email or skype?  I got an email in the middle of the night telling me it would be available in a few hours to purchase.  I was able to get an order completed this morning.  But I sent an email with my order number asking for payment info and haven't received a response.  No doubt they are swamped, especially if they are doing a single unit per person, but they are also indicating I will only get two hours to make a payment after they send me payment info and I am concerned that they will email me in the middle of the night again with that info in which case I won't make that two hours window.

Not to mention DASH is dropping and I think I would rather pay in BTC at this point...
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL - WHAT IS GOING ON? on: April 09, 2017, 02:00:40 PM
If things go the path of bitcoin then high priced miners actually helps maintain higher price on the coin (speaking mostly of DASH in this case).  If people invest millions in mining gear they aren't likely to sell the mined coins for a loss so the price is held up.  Bitmain has had a lot to do with the price of BTC, more than I think most people realize.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL - WHAT IS GOING ON? on: April 09, 2017, 01:09:24 AM
For anyone with one of the previous miners, do you mine the multi algo or is it generally more profitable to just mine dash?
Dash is rarely the best coin to mine. Right now mine is on MUE. Lately MUE or nicehash have been the best. On a multi-algo pool it does ADZ a lot, but my multi-algo doesn't mine MUE.

Thanks for the response.  I see MUE at the top of WhatToMine right now for the algos they include.  I have some PinIdea X11 miners but they only do X11.  I have in the past done some adz as well as goldblocks mining off and on but with those you have to accumulate a decent amount on the pool side, transfer it to the exchange, and then still get a good price.  WhatToMine might show adz as the most profitable at a given moment but considering the time it takes to turn it into BTC it isn't a sure thing that mining it now will mean more BTC later than mining something else now.  If I had to bet as to whether DASH was going to go up or adz was going to go up I would feel more comfortable betting on DASH, and that's without any comment as to the relative worth or utility of either of them.  Just that mining DASH seems like a safer bet in terms of getting a decent BTC payout than mining adz.  Especially more recently.

But I plan to get a couple of these Baikal units so the other algos are not something I have had to pay attention to before and I am just wondering if X11 is really the biggest factor or not when the other algos are also available.  Given the spread I see right now on WhatToMine I would probably do MUE with it but I am just curious as to how often it is that other coins are a better option than DASH for these Baikal miners.  Are you talking about MPH when you say "my multi-algo doesn't mine MUE"?  I see they don't have a coin using quark at all which is weird since they mention it in the post about the Baikal miner. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=472510.msg16019833#msg16019833

400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is Gpu mining? on: April 08, 2017, 03:35:48 PM
What is required for GPU mining?

GPU=Graphics Processing Unit

It refers to mining with your video card.  The processor on the video card (the GPU) can be used to calculate the hashing algorithm of the various types of cryptocurriencies.  For most types of cryptocurrency a GPU is better than a CPU for this purpose.
